Alex had a big time yesterday – and his daddy and I had as much fun as he did.
Next up? POTTY TRAINING! Yippee!
Seriously, if you have potty trained a little boy, would you tell me – either in the comments or in an email – what worked for you? I am, um, overwhelmed.
But I’m stocked up on Veggie Tales fruit snacks, so I’m also armed for bribery. Lots of cavity-inducing bribery.

Happy Birthday Alex! What a cute little man you have there. His pictures in the birthday post you wrote for him are adorable. He looks like he’s got spunk! I love it!
I’ve never potty trained a boy, just one girl and it didn’t go so well! I’ve got to try again here soon, but I keep putting it off. :-) Good luck!
My older son’s biggest problem was figuring out How to Go. He did not know how to let go of his muscles and decide to pee. It took about 2 days of taking him to the toilet VERY often and then he figured it out.
I always try to toilet train in the spring/summer. less clothes to wash if they have an accident and more time spent outside.
I will probably start with my 2 1/2 year old in a few months.
Hey Boomama, try sending him in with Daddy,It will give him the idea.I always made sure the minute they woke up ,to go straight to the potty.
Make a big deal out of it if he goes.
Tell him what a big boy he is and how proud of him you are.
They are very smart and catch on quick.Don’t forget the rewards!

Waiting until he’s three is the best thing you could’ve done. So many people start to early. My advice — Lots of praise. Lots of praise.
Happy birthday to him!!
I’m confident that Alex will follow in the footsteps of his Uncle Harvey & Uncle Oliver. We potty trained our son, Harvey, in about one week. It was so EASY…a breeze. Oliver came to us already potty trained.
Of course, our sons were miniature schnauzers, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. :)
Thanks to everyone for the advice. We’ll probably get into high gear next week, once we get past this birthday party weekend. Sister, you did have gifted little boys – it’s no surprise that they caught on as quickly as they did. And Alex does go in the bathroom with his daddy, but the only consistent interest he shows is flushing the commode. It’s gonna be fun!
And, after I wrote my comment, I realized that Harvey and Oliver are (were) Alex’s cousins!
You know, with all us Southerners being cousins, the family tree thing confuses me sometimes. :)
I didn’t even think about it until you mentioned it. And those family trees do get a bit twisted. When I mention Paige to Alex, I always say “Aunt Paige” – but she’s his cousin. Oh well.
