I Would Like A Cow Butter Sculpture Of A Cat

So we’ve been out of town for a few days and are just now playing catch-up on the ole DVR, so I recognize that this Office post may be a little too late to be considered relevant.

But that’s never stopped me before, now has it?

And in the latest episode, a $4300 surplus produces all manner of wacky hijinks, including but not limited to a scheming, manipulative Pam (in my opinion, she wasn’t very Pammian) and some good ole boy behavior on the part of Jim and Oscar.

Truth be told, this one wasn’t my favorite (whenever characters act out of character – HELLO, PAM – I get thrown off a bit), but I did chuckle a time or eight:

1. “YOU are the silent killer.”

2. “I’ve swallowed all your ideas; I’m going to digest them and then see what comes out the other end.”

3. Pam: “It is SO ON.”

4. Jim: “Michael? HEEEEEEEEEY!”

5. Stanley: “There he is. There HE is.”

6. “Being here with you – and the German Mennonite minister – somehow it just all felt right.”

7. “I hate disappointing one person…but I love Burlington Coat Factory.”

8. “Now. I’m going to tend to a legal issue.”

9. “Hello, Tamequa.” (That’s from 30 Rock instead of The Office, but SWEET MERCY Kenneth makes me laugh.)

10. “I want to go to there.” (Okay. Again, 30 Rock. I do apologize. But it makes me laugh a lot lately.)

So what did y’all think?

Catch-Up

I feel like for the last couple of weeks my blog has been an endless succession of links and giveaways and giveaway winners, NOT THAT THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT, but because of all the linking and giving and random drawing-ing, I haven’t been doing a whole lot of writing-ing.

“Writing”-ing.

Whatever.

So hi. How are you?

I’m peachy, thanks.

Here’s our week so far, in case you were wondering, which you probably weren’t, but quite frankly this post is either going to have to be a run-down of this week or a random series of numbers (23! 58! 254! Congratulations!), so I’m going to commit to the former and cross my fingers and pray that I don’t bore you to tears.

What can I say? I’m a little bit off of my bloggy game.

Sunday we drove home and Mama came along for the ride. We unloaded the car, pulled out all the Christmas decorations, then managed to bedazzle the living and dining rooms in record time. David made pancakes for supper. I talked a lot about how cold I was. Alex broke the arms off of Luke Skywalker and consequently lost the privilege of playing with his Star Wars action figures for the rest of this week.

Oh, it was an evening fraught with drama.

Monday I worked all morning and then after lunch D. and I had to take my car to the shop so they could look at my brakes. I despise any car repair-related activity because I don’t know what the mechanics are talking about and I always feel like they’re speaking a foreign language and NO, I DON’T WANT YOU TO REPLACE MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS FOR THE LOW PRICE OF $39.95, THANKS A HEAP FOR ASKING.

Anyway, the first place we took the car said a bunch of stuff about how gosh, it was worse than they thought, so instead of having this thing and that thing repaired, we actually needed to have this thing and that thing replaced, and if you add up this thing and that thing you can clearly see how the grand total will come out to about $650.

SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS.

D. told them we were going to need to get a second opinion, and then we peeled out of the parking lot while we took turns breathing into a paper bag because SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS?

Merry Christmas, little man! We’d like to present you with these rotors! And they’re already installed on Mama’s car, sugar, so you’re just gonna have to look and not touch, m’kay?

We decided to get our second opinion from a mechanic that a friend of ours had recommended. New mechanic took a look at the car, said he could do everything that needed to be done for about 70% less that the first quote, and we proceeded to do hitch kicks and double stunts in his parking lot because we were so WAY BEYOND RELIEVED, MY WORD.

Then we got home and Alex was hiding under our bed because Mama had fallen victim to the stomach bug while we were trying to get the car fixed and, in the words of the five year-old, “My grandmother’s throw-ups are scaring me.”

Sweet, sweet memories.

So we checked on Mama and made sure she was okay and then D. and I ate Costco apple pie for supper.

Have you had the Costco apple pie? IT IS DELICIOUS.

Tuesday and Wednesday brought more work, some grocery shopping, some gumbo cooking and a grandmother who actually got out of the bed and even walked around the house for a bit. Wednesday night David and I went to see the latest James Bond movie. I was really looking forward to seeing it, but unfortunately it was just a’ight for me. Mainly because I don’t really care for films set in the desert. I get way too thirsty.

Thursday we made a totally impromptu road trip that I’ll be talking about later so that I can tell you how utterly and completely enjoyable it was and how if you asked me what the biggest blessing of 2008 has been (aside from family and Africa, of course), I would say, THE PEOPLE. Because sweet mercy at the friendships that have flat-out blessed my soul.

And now we’re at my brother and sister-in-law’s for the weekend, celebrating a couple of family birthdays and watching some cousins run around the house with light sabers and Nerf guns. I’m also staying in constant contact with the message boards to get up-to-the-minute reports on the MSU coaching search. Because I like to take my Bulldog-related obsessions with me wherever I go, even right up in the middle of a house full of Rebels.

And I believe that’s all.

Happy weekend, everybody!

Oh Hi.

I feel like I have totally neglected the blawg this week, but if it’s any consolation I’ve started about four different posts that I just haven’t seen fit to finish.

So obviously I’ve been very goal-oriented and thorough.

Anyway, we’re trying to get our ducks in a row to head out of town but I have high hopes of getting a post up before the day is over. And I haven’t watched last night’s episode of “The Office” yet but as soon as I do I’ll post about it.

So basically I’m just checking in to make a few excuses and wave.

*WAVING*

See y’all in a little bit.

Bye.

Linky Interwebby Awesomeness 12.2.08

Shaw-awn and Travis and Cindy are rehearsing for their Gloria Christmas Tour today (their tour is in partnership with Compassion International, and I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it, but I’m a bit of a Compassion fan). Anyway, Shaun set up a little camera doo-hickey that enables you to watch them rehearse, and while it’s essentially like sitting in an empty auditorium and listening to an orchestra warm up, IT FASCINATES ME.

– I don’t normally “oooh” and “aaah” when I read a magazine, but let me tell you: the latest issue of Southern Accents is breathtaking. The Christmas decorations are absolutely stunning, and I especially love some of the unique color combinations they featured this year (there’s a stair railing decorated in green and blue, and it is divine).

– Finally, you know you’re getting old when your favorite interweb discovery of late is a stain removal guide. But oh, it is mighty handy.
