How Great

Last night our little family-o-three went to the Glory Revealed concert, and OH MY MERCY was it ever a fun night-o-worship.

(By the way. When I was around, oh, say, 23-ish, if someone had asked me to make a list of things I was certain – CERTAIN – I would never say, the sentence at the top of this post would have been a solid 3 or 4 on the list. And it probably would’ve been directly underneath a sentence that said, “I will never join a Baptist church.”)

(Oh, sweet irony. You do amuse me.)

We decided to take Alex with us to the concert because he loves music so much, but he wasn’t exactly in his finest mood when we got to the church. He was uncharacteristically grumpy and BOUND AND DETERMINED that he wanted to go home. He finally sat back in the pew and looked at some books I had in my purse, but let me tell you: he was one stonefaced little man.

Until the music started.

And as soon as the music started, his eyes got big and he looked up at me and said, “Mama. MAMA! THAT’S ‘HOW GREAT!’ WE HAVE THAT SONG ON YOUR IPOD!”

It was even better in person.

And by the time intermission rolled around, the boy was back to normal.

To say the least.

One day last week I read on Twitter that there was going to be a “special guest” at the concert, but I didn’t think too much about who it might be since I had other, more pressing issues on my mind like I wonder whatever happened to Judd Nelson? and How will I cope if it turns out that Ole Miss REALLY IS the best football team in the SEC this year? and Do I want to paint our bedroom a blue-green or a green-blue or a gray-green or a green-gray?

Anyway, as it turned out the special guest was Chris Tomlin, and it was such a treat to hear him that I really don’t even know what to say about it. So I’ll just show you a picture instead.

There. I know we all feel better now.

The only negative part of the night was that my husband and I determined that the dry ice that gets pumped out into the audience at concerts seems to give us headaches, and of course that totally made us feel like our names might as well be Mamaw and Papaw. But really, we didn’t so much mind the short-term headache because fortunately we don’t run across a whole lot of dry ice when we run up to the Cracker Barrel for a quick supper of soft solids at 4:15 in the afternoon.

It’s our favorite thing to do after we go walking inside the mall.

Have a great week, y’all!

Worth The Wait

So yes, I blog about music a lot (you know why? because I LOVE IT), and the other day I decided to look and see how many times I’ve blogged about Christy Nockels, who is one of my absolute favorite singer / songwriters.

The answer? EIGHTEEN times.

That is sort of a lot considering that she hasn’t had a new CD in three and a half years AND, you know, I don’t know her in real life even a little bit.

But oh my word. I love her music to pieces.

And today I am WAY PAST TICKLED to be able to share it. Click over to the giveaways page if you’d like to win one of ten copies of Christy Nockels’ new CD!

But Really, We’re All Winners

I just posted the 10 winners of the Selah You Deliver Me CD giveaway, so if you’d like to find out if you’re one of them, click over to the winners’ page.

I’d also like to give a shout-out to the month of August this morning. August, I know that we’ve had our differences in the past, but you have been unseasonably cool this year, and I just want you to know that you have blessed my soul. Right now I have a tender feeling about you, August. It’s never happened before, but it’s delightful.

That is all.

You Can Imagine My Surprise

Okay so I really do have one more giveaway to do – and if I don’t get it posted tonight, I’ll get it posted tomorrow – but my brain needs for me to compose some sentences that are not connected to fabulous prizes so that I can tell you about something that has had a profound impact on the life of my little family.

Here’s the deal. I have always been a vanilla ice cream girl. I don’t usually like ice cream with swirls or chocolate covered things or chunks of stuff. If I’m really feeling crazy I’ll put some strawberries on top of my PLAIN VANILLA – or maybe just a little bit of chocolate syrup – but by and large I don’t want to taste any wacky flavor combinations. Just some old school homemade vanilla.

Over the last two weeks, everything has changed. My husband picked out some ice cream one night when we were at the grocery store, and even though I was skeptical – even though I couldn’t fathom why he wouldn’t buy a pint of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla for me and a pint of Ben & Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk for him – he branched out. He broadened our ice cream horizons. And our lives will never be the same.

All because of this.

And honestly, I can’t figure out why I like it. It’s chocolate ice cream (not a fan), it has stuff mixed in it (not a fan) and it’s full of nuts (typically a fan – but not when they’re in ice cream). But I’m telling you: there’s something about the flavor and the texture that just delights me.

I mean, right now? While I’m sitting in a chair in my house and typing on my computer? Just thinking about that Nutty Chocolate ice cream makes me want to clap my hands. It also makes me want to drive to the Publix and pick up a 1/2 gallon of Nutty Chocolate. But I won’t do that since I am the epitome of self-discipline and restraint.

Stop laughing.

Anyway, even though I will always be loyal to my Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla, I feel a shift in my ice cream perspective, a sense of adventure in my ice cream spirit. And I owe it all to Nutty Chocolate. I am forever grateful.

So. What’s your favorite ice cream?

Lo, Another Giveaway

I really am working on some posts that don’t have the word “giveaway” in them. I really am. I think. At least I’m almost certain that I’ve thought about working on some posts that don’t have the word “giveaway” in them.

But since I made a few giveaway commitments earlier in the summer, I’m trying to (finally) take care of all my bloggy bidness – the bidness that I have maybe sort of put off just a little bit because, well, it was summertime and I worked very, very hard to balance all of our family fun with all the time we spent driving around town looking for places that sell Icees. Not to mention the fact that I had an EXTREMELY rigorous nighttime TV-watching schedule to maintain.

So anyway, I know that this week has been a little heavy on the giveaways, but as I often like to say: an ounce of giveaway procrastination is worth a pound of giveaway overkill.

Or something like that.

And if you’d like to win a $25 Marshalls gift card, just click on over to the giveaways page.

p.s. Tomorrow I’m giving away some music by someone whose name rhymes with MISTY DOCKELS. You can imagine my joy.
