The Big Boo Cast, Episode 218

On this episode we spend some time making predictions about the National Championship game, and then we move into deeper subjects like eyebrow pencils, what we love about libraries, and additional low-level goals for 2021.

We also talk about Melanie’s completely accurate assessment of the Living Proof Dry Volume Blast (I finally tried it!), my quest for the perfect hair towel, and Melanie’s (DELIGHTFUL) Five Favorites.

Hope y’all enjoy! Hang in there, everybody.

  1. Where to start… you two feel like friends of mine. (I know you get that all the time, but it really is true.) I started listening several years ago, fell in love with y’all, and then just had to go all the way back to Episode 1 and have listened to them all. Oh, the good old days of flipping through a catalog during the podcast. Good times. :) Anyway, when I was listening to today’s episode and Melanie began to talk about writing book titles down, I just had to respond. I am a retired teacher, voracious reader, but the type of reader who immediately forgets what she has previously read. So in Summer 2018 I began to write all my books down in a notebook and have continued all this time. (A low-level goal I have achieved before I even knew there was such a thing! ha) I’ve read 217 books since I started writing down the titles, and it is such a delight to go back and look at the titles, mostly to refresh my memory about if I actually have read a particular book or not. When Melanie mentioned that this morning, I looked back at my notebook and the very first book I wrote down in Summer ’18 was The Antelope in the Living Room! Who’d a thunk it? I have read every book the both of you have written and look forward to more. We live in Iowa Park, TX out in the country up on a hill, and it is known as the windiest place in our county, so when Melanie talks about the wind being a thing, it really IS a thing! (and yes, sometimes it does mess with our internet and cable!!) Maybe Juan makes house calls up to North Texas… Thanks for reading this rambling comment of mine, and keep doing exactly what y’all have been doing. You are both a Blessing!

  2. Sophie, these towels may work for you–they’re super soft but not terribly absorbent and not too heavy. (I have children 10 and almost 12, and these are the ones i used to stock their bathroom.) https://www.target.com/p/bath-towel-white—room-essentials–8482-/-/A-52967909
And as I’ve been sitting here, I just ordered the Living Proof spray–it’s in a gift set on sale at Nordstrom right now. Thank you for the recommendation!

  3. I started keeping a list of the books I read in 2010 and have read a total of 460 through the end of 2020. That’s an average of 46 per year. With 2020 being what it was, I read 78. And I’m half way through book #5 so far this year.

  4. I may have missed it, but I don’t remember you recommending When Life Gives You Pears by Jeannie Gaffigan. (Yes, Jim Gaffigan’s wife.) It’s wonderful! On the cover: “The Healing Power of Family, Faith, and Funny People.” That certainly sounds like something you and Melanie would appreciate!! I’m convinced that when you read it you’ll be recommending it to all of us!

  5. Allison Hamff says:

These podcasts never fail to make me laugh; they are a delightful escape from all that has been going on this past year. Thank you both for always being able to inject some humor into our lives!
