Adventures In Mowing

I know it’s Mother’s Day, but it is ALL DADDY, ALL THE TIME around our house these days.

I believe this phase is what the childrearing experts refer to as “modeling.”

I personally refer to it as “Oh blessed sweet relief.”

The little man does still like to snuggle with his mama. But he wants to do EVERYTHING his daddy does, whether it’s checking the phone lines, or reading a magazine, or going to Best Buy (what is it with guys and Best Buy?), or mowing the grass.

We’ve tried to be cautious about Alex getting near equipment with, you know, SHARP SPINNING BLADES, but now he’s getting old enough to understand that he has to keep a respectful distance from the machines that make loud noises. And when David got out the mower, Alex was more than happy to follow behind with a somewhat less sophisticated model.

First Alex made his way to the end of the driveway to show his daddy his cool new equipment.

Note the careful attention to detail as he worked his way around the mailbox shrubbery.

Unfortunately, Alex inherited my ability to fall down for no discernible reason. So the yardwork was interrupted for just a minute while he sought comfort from Mama. I love the fact that David is smiling in the background. Almost as much as I love the fact that I made time to take a picture when my child was crying. PARENTS OF THE YEAR!

And they were both back to the task at hand in no time at all.

Aren’t they the sweetest, y’all?

Happy Mother’s Day.

  2. That is precious! Happy Mother’s Day! Love ~ Patricia

  3. Don’t you just love the pics of them crying? Those are priceless!! I got one of Claire I’m going to have to post – it’s hilarious!! It’s doesn’t even look like her. Looks like they are having fun, what a great mama day!

BTW – I love your GREEN GRASS!! I’m so jealous, I need God to work on my heart right now and rid me of all envy! *Sigh*

  4. Sweet pictures! It’s too hard to resist getting snapshots of them when they’re so adorable. One of my favorite pics is of my daughter Lindsey standing in the corner – like Dennis the Menace without the chair.

    Happy Mother’s Day backatcha.

  5. Too cute! Yep, the one with him crying is pretty priceless! :-)

  6. Sweet! Sweet! Sweet! And what a difference a Daddy makes in a young man’s life!

  7. How fun, I loved this post! When I was little, I had such a funny way of crying that my mom would sometimes make me cry deliberately and then laugh at me (which, of course, got me all the angrier). Hehe! I love the picture you took, and I bet he’ll laugh at it later on as well… :)

  8. LOLolol, hee, hee! Wow. That was great. What an AWESOME photo journal. Happy Mother’s day!

  9. Guess who has a new screensaver picture…

  10. I love the pics, especially the one of him crying! And the falling down for no discernible reason? I have a BIL who is afflicted with the same disorder. He can trip over thin air, and does all the time. I was in Sears with him and my sis and we heard a floundering fumbling noise behind us, and looked back. No Brian….Then we saw his feet sticking out from under a big rack of clearance stuff. We walked off laughing our fool heads off and left him like we didn’t even know who he was. A fond memory from the past. ;)

  11. “Trip over thin air”?

    First, that’s just funny.

Second, that’s me. Mama has been known to call me a “blunderbust” – because I fall, well, just because. :-) I am the proverbial bull in a china shop – get me anywhere near displays of crystal, and something will break. I’ll turn around real quick and my purse will hit something, and then I’ll try to straighten it all up and knock more stuff over in the process.

I have shamed my family on many, many occasions. :-)
