I could very easily go on a bit of a rant right now about WHY IN THE WORLD my daddy won’t get DSL. I mean, he is on the computer constantly, plans somewhere around 6 family reunions a year via email, researches about 14 branches of the family on a daily basis (here’s my conclusion about geneaology: we’re all related. Thank you.), and keeps THREE hard drives on hand to store all his documents.
But DSL? NOOOOOOOO. That would be far too extravagant.
And I guess I “ranted” anyway. :-) Please forgive.
My point is – I so badly want to read everyone’s blogs right now. Alex is taking a huge nap after his day-o-swimming (no pictures – I think I left the camera at home), Mama is “resting her eyes” (read: snoring in her chair, but she would say “resting my eyes” because apparently it’s unladylike to admit that you go dead-to-the-world asleep in an upright position), and the house is as quiet as can be. Perfect blog reading time.
But the dial-up won’t allow it. I got two blogs to load in about 15 minutes, so at that rate I should be through all my Bloglines reading around 4:30 tomorrow morning. I guess everything will just have to keep until I get home.
So for those of you going to the bloggy get-together in Kansas City: have a wonderful time. I’ll be praying for your safe travel, and I hope you laugh so hard that your sides hurt when you leave. (Hey! Addie! Y’all should call me! Seriously. You can put me on speakerphone and then make fun of my accent after we hang up.)
Okay. Daddy needs his computer now. But he just told me he bought a laptop, which means wireless can’t be far behind. Surely.
Fingers crossed. :-)

That stinks. I got my parents to upgrade to high-speed internet, though they WILL NOT do call waiting. Drives me nuts–what is it, like, $5 a month?
Anyway, have fun with your family and I wish you were joining us in KC.
Your dad sounds like my dad with the geneaology. Yep, we’re all related.
Wish I could go to KC too. Sounds like fun.
I feel your pain. But mine’s worse I think. Two weeks ago I was at MY Dad’s place in Goodland, KS. Not only does he not own a computer but when I g.e.n.t.l.y suggested he might have fun with one, he said, don’t want no computer. Okay. So he lives all alone, he’s 81, he’s very smart and could learn the basics in no time and we all know he’d discover a whole new “unlonely” world out there but it’s not even discussable. I’m wrecking the English language here but anyway, I do feel your pain. I am one of those dinosaurs who does not own a laptop (yet – maybe after the wedding?) so let me tell you, it was a LONG four days in Goodland.
I was thinking about dial up in the shower the other day… I was thinking about switching back from DSL to dial up – then I would stay off the internet! Steven said I just need some selfcontrol. He he.
Hey Boomama,
lol hope you have a good time with your family it sounds like there will not be a dull moment anywhere in your visit.
wireless laptops rock, I take mine everywhere, I can even use it in the neighborhoods at church while I wait on my kid’s.
Be Blessed.
Oh I wrote the first part of my testimony, was feeling led to do that.
Crackin’ me up! That’s seems to happen to me out here in Buckeye! (a.k.a Suckeye) It seems as though the best time to be on the computer the dang Internet will be down. Just like this morning…
I attempted to use dial-up at my parents a few weeks ago – aaaakkk!
I so feel your pain. Sorry.
Gearing up for the KC Lunch…I’ll be taking lots of photos, too. Hoping to capture Chilihead sans the Groucho glasses. Woohoo!
Keep your cell phone on!
Hi there! Missing Marbles here! :) I promise that if your dad ever gets DSL he will love it and wonder why he didn’t get it sooner. It is truly a wonderful thing to have. :) Talking him into it is half the battle. I have DSL and I think I would die if we had to go back to dial up. I am way too impatient to wait around for dial up, guess I’m a little spoiled. He’ll come around and he’ll love it! P.S- Do you know how to get my name to show up on this comment so you don’t think I’m some freaky stranger? :)
yes – dial up just will not do!! when we first moved here, they didn’t have dsl or cable in this neighbourhood yet – it was horrifying!! fortunately that was before i blogged etc. But boy was i jumping up and down when we got it!!
We don’t even have dial up at our cabin though – NO phone lines there. So i can’t even go online up there!! It is quite sad.
When we moved out to the boonies I was very concerned that we wouldn’t have something more than dial-up… we pay through the nose for our DSL but it is sooooooo worth it.
How frustrating! It’s almost enough to make you want to give up blogging. Okay, maybe not.
Wireless, but would it be wireless with a dial-up connection? Ugh!
Do we have to wait until we hang up with you before we start to make fun? You know us wacky Mid-westerners, British accent, Scottish accent, Southern accent, etc. They all make us giggle ;-)
Dialup IS evil. I annoyed everyone by tying up the phone lines. My dad has me beat, though. He’s got cable high-speed which leaves my DSL in the dust.
