My Bulldogs play North Carolina at 6:00 tonight in the College World Series, and while I’d like to pretend all is normal at our house right now, I cannot.
Short version: I’m a nervous wreck and worried about a let-down after last week’s games and blah blah I need to get a life blah blah.
Blah.
Alex and I have been humming the fight song all day long (we don’t sing the lyrics as they are somewhat inappropriate for a four year old), and I can’t even imagine how much our fellow Walmart patrons appreciated it when Alex screamed “GO STATE!” in the check-out line earlier this afternoon.
However, in my defense, since we live smack-dab in the middle of Alabama / Auburn country, I feel a certain sense of urgency about communicating our MSU heritage to Alex. I mean, if he hasn’t chosen the narrow Bulldog way by the time he hits kindergarten, he’s likely to get swayed by chants of “Roll Tide” and “War Eagle.”
And that will just never do.
So, as we approach our first game in the College World Series, I will now bore you with some random information as a somewhat pitiful attempt to channel my nervous energy and make the time go faster.
[NO. LIFE. AT. ALL.]
1. Last night we watched this season’s first episode of “Top Chef.” It seems like the talent level is much higher than last year’s, and I think my early favorite is Tre. He has a quiet confidence – and I love me some quiet confidence.
Also, if someone told me I had to make a meal using snake and eel? I’d just throw that meat in a deep fryer and call it a day. I’m blown away by the creativity of the chefs – especially under such tight time constraints.
2. The credits just came on for the CWS. And they made me teary-eyed. Would anyone care for some of my HORMONES? I’d be delighted to share.
3. I am fascinated by the iPhone. Have y’all seen the commercials?
4. Yesterday Alex had a friend over to play, and their four year-old conversations were CRACKING ME UP. At one point Alex’s buddy C. mentioned that he’d had some horrible dreams about a sharp-toothed green monster, and the whole story was punctuated by Alex interrupting to say, “OH, C.! BLESS YOUR HEART!”
Not that I have ANY idea where he’s heard that expression, of course.
(By the way, in about seven years Alex is going to read that anecdote and turn beet red from embarrassment. Then he will roll his eyes. And reward me with stony silence.)
Also, A. also responded to several of C.’s comments by saying, “That’s a swell idea,” and I got a little tickled because I was unaware that we were living in 1958.
5. Baseball is on. I’m going to have to clean now. I’m sure you understand.
You think you have SEVEN years left ….
one word.
HA!
Btw, you will need to indoctrine me, should I happen to find myself in Alabama ….
I fear rooting for UCLA will be a wee bit harder from there.
I’m fascinated by the i-phone too and I’m not one to get gadget-greedy. My husband and I actually sat down to watch Steve Jobs’ keynote speech at Mac World online one night at 2:30 in the morning. And I was mesmerized. Can I just tell you it is I who has no life?!
I mean, iPhone. Geesh.
ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!!!! :0)
Good Luck tonight!
♥Trista
We’ve been watching, they’re still leading, although it’s 4-2 now. Go Bulldogs :)
The iPhone looks awesome. I just don’t intend to fork over that kind of money, I’m a bit, err, umm, cheap :)
I just have to enjoy the fact that each and every time I click on “boomama” in my favorites I get a little giddy since I know I will giggle. Thanks for being funny :)
I too am wondering what to say when we “yell, yell, yell, YELL, for dear ole State we’ll yell like ?.?.?.?”. And let me tell you, living in Tarheel country without ESPN2 is pure well, you know, right now.
iPhone = second mortgage.
do i dare say it? baseball, schmaseball. i mean, it’s a sport that you have to watch OUTSIDE when it’s HOT! there’s fun to be had?
i support you, boomama. i don’t condone it by any means. but i support you.
big h said to his swimming instructor the other day, “you know, courtney, i like fast songs with good beats. i get my groove on to them.” i can’t imagine where he gets this stuff?
The obligatory response from someone with my blogonym would be…
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Eagle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But since I love reading your blog so much, I’ll forgive you for teaching Alex about your MSU, as long as you forbid him from saying roll tide.
Seriously.
;)

(Just got in from a road trip, Boo…how them dogs? Hope you liked the tunrout…going to check ESPN!
We never even owned an iPod , but I, too, am LOVing the iPhone. I’d better be a verrrrry good girl between now and December! Maybe Santa will bring me one.
Okay, yea, I have an innate need to chime in with a “war eagle,” but I’m gonna keep it calm and sedate so as not to wake the kiddies. Since I’m up here in Virginia and am cut-off from all things SEC, though, I will support you and your team from a healthy distance.
I had to google geoduck and black chicken after watching Top Chef the other night. Turns out I am somewhat of a food philistine- but giant, 90-year-clams? Thank you, but no, I have eaten already.
By the way, the geoduck (as I am sure you collected, pronounced goo-ee-duck), I was literally visualizing a gooey duck. Bleeech!
I have to agree with the other comments about TC. Those items that they had to cook would have made me up-chuck.
I also think Tre will go far in the competition.
At On the Border tonight (Date night!) we had to sit at the bar, because we had tickets for Nancy Drew (which was really good!) and needed to eat quickly. First of all, I laughed because how many people pray before their meal at the bar? I wonder? Anyhoo, your game was on the big screen there and I told Chris that is where BooMama went to school. He said, “Huh?” I said remember the charred head story and the game during the day and the hats? They went to MSU. “Oh yeah,” he said. “Hmmm.” I said, I even know her real first name. He said, “That’s great.” I thought you’d enjoy that and perhaps laugh at me!
How about Alex saying, “Gig ’em Ags!”? Now that would be a school to be proud of! We’re class of ’92 and ’93…Go Aggies! :)
Have a great weekend! I hope your team won!

When I saw the iPhone, my jaw hit the keyboard. My husband (computer genius, but not a Mac fan) share this with me:

Swell, huh?
My husband and son said your beloved MSU played there hearts out last night. They were cheering loud and long. I liked their uniforms. Guess we know who the real fans are here in Omaha.
We’ll keep rooting for them from the stands and you keep cleaning away and I’m just know they can stay in Omaha the rest of the week.
What a great way to start my day. Laughing my head off.
Snake and eel? You’re kidding, right? I suppose it depends on what KIND of snake it is. I’ve always heard rattlesnake tastes just like chicken. Ew.
BooMama, you crack me up! LOL!
I’ve never eaten rattlesnake, and I don’t EVER intend to eat it, but there is NO WAY under the sun that you will convence me it taste just like chicken! I mean, NO WAY!
My oldest is a graduate of Mississippi State and his newborn son (due at any minute) is set to come home in a State onesie!! Too cute.
Come on BooMama,
Just let Alex practice a little WAR EAGLE and see if he likes the sound of it.
I needed some funny in my life. Of course, I know to go to Boomama’s to get some. So,here I am. You did not disappoint! You have a little for everyone–food, sports, and four-year-old conversations!
Thank you, I can go on with life now.
Keep on teaching that sweet baby the ways of the Dawgs. I, too, live in the middle of Ala/Aub country and it infuriates my daughter, who is a student-athlete at MSU, when some of the local yokels look at her in complete bewilderment and say “you mean, you pull for State in football TOO?” There are no sweeter, kinder people than bulldog fans, because we have learned to win AND lose with class and dignity!
Hopefully, they’ll do better tomorrow!! Help me out, BooMama:
Maroon….
I met a girl on an airplane last night who was very eager to get to a tv and watch her Bulldogs. She was very impressed that I knew which school she was from and I told her I owe it all to BooMama.
Sorry you lost. Our team, Cal State Fullerton, also lost. We can be sad together.
julie
ps. I also have no life.
I just love that after my three little men have been home 4 hours after 3 weeks gone from Momma that we all rallied around the TV to watch our Diamond Dawgs. Leftovers and cowbells in hand we cheered only to be disappointed like you. Alex would have LOVED to be “held up root’n” with the TOUGH boys as T’s John John refers to them :)
Well, bless YOUR heart. I hope you enjoyed your baseball. And your burger.
I love the 4 yr old quotes! My 4 year old was walking through Blockbuster with me the other day and saw the new Shrek 3 game. She said, “Mommy, this game is awesome cool.” What? I have no idea where she heard that before because I haven’t been a teenager in quite some time. :)
Regarding embarrassing your child: A friend of mine, when told my her youngest that she had embarrassed him greatly, responded with, “Son, I have not yet begun to embarrass you.”
