I’d Like Fries With That, Only I’m Trying Not To Eat Carbs

Last night Big Mama told me about this burger place in her town that serves tostada burgers. Apparently you take two tostadas, load ’em up with refried beans and cheese, put your hamburger patty in the middle of it all, and pure delicious goodness is the result.

Needless to say, I have not been able to stop thinking about this thing they call the tostada burger.

And how I would put a WHOLE sliced avocado on mine. Perhaps even a dollop of sour cream.

Then, to add insult to injury, this afternoon on Guy Fieri’s new Food Network show (repeating tomorrow at 4:30 central), he featured some of the best burger joints in the country. I was folding clothes while I watched, and I almost had to use a clean dishtowel to wipe the drool from my face. There was this one place that puts 1/3 pound of cheese on every burger, so when the cheese overflows onto the griddle it crisps up like a potato chip.

I may have grown up in the Methodist church, y’all, but when I saw that cheddar cheese hit that hot griddle, I almost lifted my hands in praise right there in the guest bedroom.

Anyhoo, it’s pretty much a given that we’ll now have to have some form of burger for supper tonight – because if we don’t, I will dream about them and wake up at 3 in the morning and fire up the grill just like all the other perfectly normal people who obsess about something until it takes over their lives and renders them incapable of sleep.

So in the spirit of fueling my obsession, tell me this, internets: what’s your favorite burger?

Is it one you make – or one you buy?

I always say that my favorite burger is the last one that D. cooked for me on our grill, but now I’m thinking that tostada burger over in Big Mama’s neck of the woods might just change my mind.

  1. There’s a restaurant called Jake’s that make this skillet burger (no bun) with “gold dust” seasoning, onion straws and a bleu cheese/horseradish sauce. It is out of this world fabulous!!! And the best part–on Tuesday nights it is half-price!!!!

  2. About 1/3 lb. of ground beef/chuck cooked on my charcoal grill until it’s just the barest hint of pink in the middle and so juicy it runs down my chin when I bite into it. Cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle and condiments welcome, but not necessary. Just some salt, my burger and bun are all that’s necessary for burger Nirvana.

Thanks so much, BooMama. You passed the burger mojo on to me and now I’ll obsess about it until I grill some beefy goodness.

Have a great weekend! Hopefully a wonderful tostada burger or somesuch will be in your immediate future. :-)

By the way, did Sister get to her destination safely? Lucky dog, her!

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  3. It would have to be an In n’ Out burger– a chain out west that uses fresh beef and vegetables, melted cheese a nice crisp slice of raw onion. Oh my ya’ll… here’s a link:

    http://www.in-n-out.com/freshness.asp

  4. Now I have to go and get my BBQ tank refilled. Pronto. Hamburger goodness here we come!

  5. In and Out is probably the best chain joint for burgers, but we have a place in the town I live in called “Pearl’s Phat Burger.” Wow. So good. They have a regular sized burger which the call the “Mini Pearl” (HOWDY!!! For those who know who Minnie Pearl was), and the rest of their burgers are huge and come in just about any combination imaginable…barbecue sauce, blue cheese, mushrooms and the list could go on. They have great onion rings too and if you want fries AND onion rings, they call them “Frings”.

  6. I love a Milo’s burger the best!

  7. I got one at Carl’s Jr. last week (I despise their commercials!) that had avacado and a special sauce (a bit spicy, but good!)…I think it was a California burger. But the very best burger? That’s any burger with my family…I think having their company makes it taste better :) There was a place in Little Rock called Fatburger that was Really good, but who wants to eat at a place with the word FAT in it? I think someone learning English thought it was a good dexcriptive name, when in actuality it’s kind of a put off.

  8. OK– recently while watching the food network, Sandra Lee made some burgers with garlic butter on them– that’s right, butter on a hamburger!! I tried it and it was out of this world!!

I buy 90% lean burgers from Sams club– that way they’re nice and thick and uniform in size– salt and pepper and then grill. Diane’s description of doneness is perfection– I won’t even try to top it.

Then before you put any other toppings on there, you put the garlic butter on them. She made it with fresh garlic minced up, mixed with butter. I don’t remember measurements– who does that?? The butter melts into the meat, and then the garlic pieces are still on top (AWESOME!!). Also good for chasing away vampires….. Then I top with cheddar cheese or whatever else sounds good—

Great, now I have to go fire up the grill!!

  9. Hi BooMama,

I’m finally coming out of the closet after being a silent reader for awhile. To answer your question, up here in the North(Michigan), our favorite burger is 1/2# ground sirloin grilled and topped with swiss cheese, carmelized onions and mushrooms, and blue cheese dressing served on grilled Texas toast. Yum!

    Blessings,
    Becky

  10. The one I make. When I form the patties, I use an ever-lovin’ handful of Montreal Steak Seasoning and mix it in real good. Then I salt them and then grill them up to a perfect medium-well so they are no longer pink inside (no mooing please) and then I put them on a Martin’s potato roll with ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, and a tomato, and maybe just a tad more salt and pepper. And, YUM. Oh, 85% lean works best.

  11. I forgot the American cheese on top!!! Can’t have a burger without some yummy processed goodness, now can we?

  12. Fresh bleu cheese crumbles, alittle A-1 and sharp cheddar. This of course goes with the required- why-do-I even-have-to-say-it-people avocado.

  13. The best burger I’ve ever had was made by Raymond, my Sunday School teacher. He mixed ranch dressing into the ground beef and grilled it to perfection. That was over a year ago and my mouth still waters just thinking about it. Or, maybe it was especially tasty because I didn’t cook it myself. Isn’t it funny how that happens?

  14. I make my own too…at home on the George Foreman grill (since we only have a Weber charcoal grill, that GF is really fast). Sprinkle a little Tony Chachere’s on there & it’s yumsville. With all the fixins, we love a good juicy burger almost about every other week, whole wheat buns & homegrown tomatoes.

  15. I’m another “lurker” that is finally coming out of the closet to confess my true love of all things ground! Like all good southerners; burgers (as in backyard burgers) are a way of life down here. I have to admit that I love a good burger as much as anyone, but since I’m on my life long quest to leave my “plus size” life, burgers are not on my radar much these days. Which I can handle most days, until I too watched Guy on Food TV today. The burger that had bacon and cheddar cheese crammed in the middle was too much for me to watch. I had to turn the channel quick and run eat some rice cakes to keep from eating the TV!

So, to satisfy my burger craving and to make my husband happy for Father’s Day, I’m cooking Jenny-O lean turkey burgers on my George Foreman tonight. I will sprinkle Monterrey Grill seasoning and serve them with pickles, raw onion on a whole wheat bun. It’s great, but not near as good as a backyard burger cooked over a real open flame, covered in real cheddar cheese with lots of mayo and toppings. But, it gets the job done without sabotaging my weight loss journey.

BTW, I have become a HUGE BooMama fan! I love your writing style and very much enjoy reading your blog. Yours is the first blog I’ve ever read. I use to keep an online journal back when my girls were little, but that was long before “blogging” was invented. I don’t consider myself hip enough to keep a blog. Not to mention with 2 girls, homeschooling, church and life I don’t see how I could make the time. But, I enjoy yours and I’ve emailed your blog to many of my friends (in case you notice a ton more activity :o).

    Enjoy your burgers tonight!

  16. i like to make my own. it must have bacon, extra cheese and a toasted bun to be the best in my book.

  17. i’m really not a big fan of burgers made at home…

but I LOVE Red Robin Burgers and Sonic burgers with the onions rings on top!

    HEAVEN HEAVEN HEAVEN…

And while we don’t currently have a Red Robin nearby, I just found out that there WILL be one near us when we move south of Nashville NEXT MONTH! I think the Heavens just opened and shone down on me…

They even have KNIFE AND FORK BURGERS – though I think just shoving my face down on the plate will suffice. (one of those is a Guacamole!!!!!! Bacon Burger; they also have a pot roast burger)

    http://www.redrobin.com/

Enjoy – and don’t eat your monitor if you got to the web site.

    Blessings,
    Karla

  18. I heart hamburgers. They are my favoritest. I like the ones from Wendy’s pretty well, but my favorites are the ones my dad make on the grill. :-) We try to replicate it at our house on the George Foreman, which is a pretty close second. Mmmmmm…. I’m hungry now.

  19. oH.MY! Just reading this made me regain the 4 pounds I lost this week!
    I haven’t had a burger in …forever?
I love the fatburgers from Rally’s. That is what the feller and I call their mushroom/swiss burgers. So yummy, greasy, and delish!
For home grilled, I make a fat burger with an ice cube in the middle. It melts as the burger cooks and you will DROWN in the juicy goodness! I like to use my fav seasoning, Cavender’s. (Okay, I use Cavenders on just about EVERYTHING!) As for toppings, I need a hinged jaw to eat it. I like crisp lettuce, a thick slice each of tomato and onion, dill pickle slices, American cheese. The lettuce HAS to go on the top under the bun with a little smear of Miracle Whip. The bottom bun, under the meat, gets a dollop of spicy mustard. I NEVER let mustard touch my lettuce! I have to make sure I don’t look at feller’s since he uses KETCHUP which is just a sin in my book. YUCK!

Okay, back to my steamed mixed veggies and tilapia with spinach. I WILL look halfway decent at the beach in two weeks! I WILL!

  20. IN-N-OUT Burger
    http://www.in-n-out.com/menu.asp

    Double Beef; Animal Style; Protein Style;
    Fries Well Done!

    http://www.in-n-out.com/menu.asp

“Animal Style” = the meat is cooked and fried with mustard and then pickles are added, extra spread and grilled onions are added.

“Protein Style” = for all you low-carbohydrate dieters, this is a burger with no bun (wrapped in lettuce).

    THE BEST BURGER!

If I’m really splurging I get the Animal Style Fries instead :)

“Animal Style Fries” = fries with cheese, spread, grilled onions and pickles (if you ask for them).

  21. I’m coming out of Lurkland too. Hamburgers have became a staple here in Northen Indiana. In the few months I have discovered Paula Deen’s House Seasoning. Love. It. My snoopy dd asks for it to be used. We get Jiffy Steaks from a local butcher shop & those on the grill, seasoned with the House Seasoning, topped with Southwestern Sauce, bacon, cheese, lettuce & a grilled bun ( buttered of course!) are to die for.

  22. Lately we’ve been obssessing over teriyaki burgers…mine are way better, but for Father’s Day, we took Dave to Red Robin for the Bonzai Burger…I was tempted by the Guacamole Burger…but I’m trying to be good:-)

  23. A burger right off the Reeder Grill (my hubby’s speci-ali-tee!) complete with lettuce, tomato, MAYO, and God’s best gift to a burger (or anything else for that matter)…BACON!!! At least three strips. Now that is DA BOMB!!!
    Have a great weekend!!

  24. Oh yeah…I forgot the CHEESE!!! Can’t have a burger without cheese!!!

  25. My favorite burgers are of my own creation– the recipe is here: http://www.recipezaar.com/120224

But let me tell you, the one I had at Rally’s last night is a close second… it was on sourdough bread (my fav) with melted cheese sauce, sauted onions & mushrooms, and bacon. Delicious!

  26. There was restaurant in town that had what they called a Cheeseburger in Paradise and omg was it good. It was just a cheeseburger with shredded lettuce and Heinz 57 but mmmm, it was yummy. Thats usually how I do my burgers now…forget the ketchup and mustard!

  27. I love the burgers at Logan’s and Jim’n Nicks. I so miss getting the burgers from Jim’n Nicks and pretty much anything else from there. We hope to visit good ole Bama soon, so we are hoping to get by there.

I did see the episode you were talking about and like you I think I had to wipe the drool off my face. I must try to duplicate that. But did you see the steak sandwich buy Tyler -MMMM!

  28. Mushroom ‘n Swiss with Crimini Onions (that just means fried but yummier) at Cheeseburger in Paradise. Mmmm, Mmmm good.

  29. Bailey's Leaf says:

In Northeast Ohio, we have been blessed by the presence of Swenson’s– the MOST wonderful hamburgers ever in the entire world. And, I don’t eat red meat that is, except for the Swensons Double Cheeseburger, ketchup only please. Give me an order of potato puffs and a Florida (a slushy phosphate thing) and I’m in what I could only figure that heaven could be like. Put an IKEA next door, and I would never leave!

  30. Michelle says:

I am a lurker, but had to chime in on this one….Applebee’s (not sure if you have one of those near by) has a Quesadilla Burger.
    http://applebees.com/Menu_Sandwiches.aspx

  31. I LOVE your blog, Boo Mama! I love the way you write–it just flows, and you have a wonderful sense of humor.

My favorite burger is the one my dh makes. He grills the burgers just right, piled with seriously-sharp Vermont Cabot Cheddar. He butters and grills nice rolls (not plain ol’ hamburger buns), then we apply catsup, mustard, my mother’s homemade piccalili, tomato slices, pickles, and a dollop of Miracle Whip. YUM!

  32. Mmmmm, there’s a place where I live called Ron’s that makes a sausage cheeseburger – the patty is 1/2 sausage, 1/2 hamburger, all smooshed together – and it’s got pepperjack cheese on it. And then I think it’s got lettuce and tomato and other stuff, but my brain overloads at the sausage and pepperjack. *drool* Then you get their spanish fries which are french fries fried with onions and jalapenos and you’re in heaven!!!
    Yum!

  33. I saw that same show today!! ;-) Those burgers looked wonderful!! :-)

My favorite burger is one we make at home. We “doctor” our meat with salt, pepper, worcestshire sauce, and garlic powdered. Grill it and add cheese. I then fry bacon, and then carmelize mushrooms and onions in the same pan the bacon was fried in, and apply that to the burger. OH, you have toast the bun and use Miracle Whip. FANTASTIC!! Wish I had one now. :-)

  34. There’s no better burger than a “RON BURGER”. Ron is my husband and he grills them to perfection!

  35. Thank GOODNESS we’re grilling burgers tomorrow for my daughter’s third birthday! I am getting my crave on! Some of those burgers sound sooooo good…

Here’s my two cents’: In the city where I live, there is a restaurant called Old Burdick’s which serves a gargantuan burger called the Michigan Avenue–smothered with cheddar, sauteed onions, and bacon (done medium, please!!!). But the BEST burger is at a little restaurant called Ferris Steak House on Detroit Avenue at 85th in Cleveland, OH. I really couldn’t tell you what makes it so good–perhaps it’s the first-rate meat they use–but I’ve eaten a lot of burgers in my day, and no burger has ever even entered the realm of goodness that this burger inhabits. It’s dribble-down-your-chin-I’m-so-full-but-there’s-no-way-I’m-putting-this-bad-boy-down good. It’s THAT GOOD. So if you’re ever in Cleveland, look it up! And while you’re in the city, treat yourself to a scoop of Chocolate Chocolate Chip Ice Cream from Honey Hut. You will crave it for the rest of your days.

  36. I know it sounds wierd, but the best burger I ever had was at a college hangout. It was called the “(Jimmy) Buffet Burger”, and it was awesome. Grilled hamburger with provolone & baby shrimp. Yes, shrimp. But it was HEAVEN!

  37. You have to have the Bruschetta Burger from Applebee’s. I am not a big burger person but this one is sooo good. And the fries drenched in olive oil don’t hurt either. :)

  38. Oh, don’t you just love a good burger! My favorite depends on the day. Burgers are so versatile that they can fit whatever mood I am in. I am always up for “the original” with american cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, ketchup and mayo, but a good ole southwest burger can hit the spot as well. A little chili powder and cumin mixed in the meat and the top the burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, avacado and anything else that speaks up at that moment. Yes ma’am! That is what I am talking about.

I think I should stop here before I launch into the description of a bacon cheeseburger and any of a hundred other burgers. Makes me hungry just thinking about it.

  39. I’m a vegetarian (not for animal rights or anything, meat just grosses me out) *blush* so my favorite burger is obviously a veggie burger. lol

  40. My fav was one by bro-in-law made on the grill. He had soften butter and mixxed all kinds of herbs and things and then put it back in the refrig. Once the butter w/ herbs had hardened again he cut it into chunks and made the hamburger patty around it. So when it was grilled the butter chunk in the middle melted and the meat was juicy and so flavorful – YUM!

  41. I was about to add that about the butter… saw that on Barefoot Contessa one day and tried it.

    YUM-MY!

  42. We love the Black Angus burgers that you get at Sam’s Club. They are so moist and tender, it doesn’t matter what you put on them…they are D-licious.

  43. You take ground round and put a little ball of herb butter (from the BBQ University Cookbook), wrap the ground beef completely around the butter, then flatten it out, grill it on the Big Green Egg just enough to make the pink disappear. Delicious!

  44. A double-meat cheeseburger from Keller’s Drive-in in Dallas. On a poppyseed bun with lots of onions and pickles. Give Him some praise!

  45. I have no idea how I can be so completely stuffed from a huge BBQ we had today for Fathers’ Day, and yet now all I want is a burger…gonna have to go out tomorrow!

My favorite is the Parmesan Burger at Taylor Brewing Company in Lombard, IL. Was better when they were first in a little hole in the wall in Naperville, but still very good.

  46. There is a hole in the wall in my town called Billy Bob’s Dairyland. WOW! They only take cash, but their bacon cheeseburgers are worth going to the ATM. The real cherry cokes wash it down. Yummy!

  47. I would have to go with Applebee’s Pita burger, it melts in your mouth!! it is put in a pita with guacomole and a sauce they make, I add cheddar cheese and yummo.
It is delish as Rachael ray would say.

  48. Up here in Northern Virginia, we like Five Guys. I hear they’ve started franchising them in Atlanta, but nothing beats the local burgers. Juicy, fresh meat. With lots of mayo, ketchup, pickles, mustard, and cheese. And the fries. Oh the fries. We buy extra and freeze them. On days when I need a carb boost, I put them in the toaster oven and it is pure yummy goodness. Tastes like fresh!

  49. Tammy H says:

    Golden Rule in Birmingham. YUMMY!

  50. I don’t like to admit this, because it makes me sound WAY too health-conscious, but my all-time favorite burger is from In-N-Out Burger (west coast). It’s called a Double-Double, protein style. It’s two patties & two slices of melted American cheese wrapped in a pocket made of lettuce (instead of a bun). As for toppings, it’s pickles only for me.

K, now I’m the drooling one…haven’t had one in months…

  51. …of course, to make the perfect burger at home, you MUST have a Big Green Egg… and blog about it.

    http://burwickbge.blogspot.com

  52. I didn’t get my Tostada burger last night, but oh yes ma’am, I had one for dinner tonight. I believe the secret to greatness is in the homemade refried beans. I like an extra side of fat to go with my cheeseburgers.

  53. Shelley says:

We make these burgers Rachael Ray made on her show once that she calls “Loose Meat Sandwiches”…but that name kind of weirds me out. They are like a burger they have in the midwest and they are so delicious! We don’t make regular hamburgers anymore, seriously.

I brown the ground beef like I would taco meat, but loosen it up constantly to get it all small and separated. Once it’s browned, I add a splash of worcestershire sauce and a little pepper…then add about a cup of chicken broth. I know it sounds weird, but hang with me. You let it simmer on med-low until the broth disappears. Then you serve it on a bun. She adds just chopped onions and maybe mustard, but we like to add shredded cheese too. I also chop up pickles for mine.

Girl, I know it does not sound so tasty, but we have served these so many times when friends have come over and they are hooked! Let me know if you try them! You will not be disappointed!

  54. The best burgers are at The Bobcat Bite on the Pecos Trail in Santa Fe–where they have to post rules outside letting you know how to wait your turn to get in. SO GOOD!

Second best is Fat Mo’s in Nashville–A heart attack on a bun!

  55. Oh my, oh my! I, too, have to delurk for this. THE best burger I’ve ever had is the Turkey Burger at the Edina Grill in Minneapolis. If you ever are in MN you HAVE to try it.

This “diner” is like none other. The Turkey burger consists of “ground turkey, peanuts, jalapeno, onion, garlic and curry seasonings blended together & topped with pepper jack cheese, poblano pesto aioli and greens”.

Who puts curry in a burger? And then mixes it with peanuts? It’s A-MAZ-ING. I never would have, but after trying it- I thought I may have just eaten pure Manna. Add the sweet potato fries with it and you in burger heaven. It’s always my favorite place to get a burger.

    Linkage, if you want… http://www.edinagrill.com

  56. Go to SAM’S and buy those WONDERFUL burgers they have. Seasoned with the right amount of Doe’s Seasoning and E’s special sauce you can’t beat ’em. Of course we have three options of cheeses: Cheddar, Pepper Jack & Swiss baby!

  57. I think we would have to fight if there were melted cheese “chips” from the grill in my vacinity. Sometimes I intentionally put cheese in a pan or on the “George” (Forman grill)so I can have some of that delicious goodness.

  58. Hey Boomama,
You crack me up… cos however bizarre your posts are i can so relate! Just come back from our favourite cheep and cheerful burger place, and ooooh I could eat it all over again! (I had a hawaiian burger – but we had yummy garlic bread on the side too!) See ya x

  59. I’m sorry to have to tell you this, since you live so far away, but my husband makes the best burgers on earth. He makes his own patties, of course. One variation on his usual ymminess is to take a patty, split it in half lengthwise, then put a bunch of Boursin cheese in the middle. The he seals the two halves together and grills the burger until the cheese is all melted. HEAVEN!

  60. Oooh, I do hate typos that I can’t fix. Sorry.

  61. Well, the tostada burger sounds pretty good, but my favortie is a homemade mushroom swiss burger.

Like Luisa, we make our own patties, with salt, ground black pepper and garlic powder. Then we marinate them is Worcestershire sauce. Grill them up, top ’em with sauteed mushrooms and swiss cheese & serve them on a toasted Kaiser roll.

In fact, I think we’ll have that tomorrow for supper!

  62. Chili’s black pepper and bleu cheese burger, hands down (but now you’ve got me thinking about how a little guacamole on that might not be sooooo bad)

  63. Kelly Anne says:

Hubby uses Paul Prudhome’s Meat Magic seasoning on our grilled burgers, and it’s the absolute best! Sprinkle on a little pepper, too.

So funny that you posted about this today…we went to dinner with friends last night and they were OBSESSING about the same burgers! They even were planning a trip just to sample the crusty, cheesy burgers for themselves!

  64. Ground Turkey, lime juice, pepper and a little garlic topped with 4 cheese mexican blend cheese, throw it on the grill and then top it with Homemade Pico de Gallo and Homemade Guacamole, serve on a whole wheat roll. Heavenly.

  65. I know exactly the burger that Big Mama is talking about. Out here in Tex-Mex land, we’ll throw refried beans on just about anything. Hands down, it’s the best burger anywhere. I know it may sound a bit weird, beans on a burger, but you just have to have some faith here.

Like Big Mama, I had the excrutiating experience of being a 30 something in braces. The day my braces came off, we went straight to bean burger paradise. I couldn’t wait to sink my new straight teeth into this burger heaven.

    Good eating,
    Lavender Chick

  66. Boomama you make me laugh!
My favorite burger is called the “Chili Size” I used to eat it with my dad after a hard day of fishing at the Fort Gibson Dam in Okla. It is a 1/2 pound sirloin burger patty cooked how you like it, on an opened faced toasted onion bun. sautaed vidalia onions piled on, chili w/ beans, picante sauce and a big dollup of blue cheese! keep a pillow close!

  67. suzanne says:

I’m thinking the Beef Council should be sending you a side of beef, considering you just influenced at least 50+ internets to put “burgers” on the menu for their next meal……I think I’d love to sample many of the ones in the comment section……I do love a good burger!

  68. Hope my keyboard doesn’t short out from the overabundance of DROOL on it!!! :-(

You and I must have the same Saturday afternoon FoodNetwork viewing schedule. I also watched Guy’s show & was ready to pack my bags for Sacramento JUST to try that crazy cheeseburger!!! I’m already plotting how to attempt that monstrosity at home. (Note to self…have hubby install industrial griddle.)

Guy filmed an episode of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” at a place just around the corner from me — The Beacon (www.beacondrivein.com) — It’s amazing! It’s world famous and I’ve been eating there since the minute I exited the womb.

My favorite is the Chili Cheese-A-Plenty. You can’t see the burger b/c it’s piled high w/ fries and greasy onion rings. I try to go there for a monthly “oil change” if I can. ;-)

  69. My favorite is a big 1/3 pounder I grill. I shake MCCormick’s Montreal Steak seasoning on both sides. Serve with pepper jack cheese and a slice of avocada.

  70. OK, I thought I liked a good hamburger now and then, but last summer our friends served us their version of the hamburger, and now I know, beyond a shadow of any kind of doubt, that I love, love, love, love, love this hamburger! Here ya go:
Mix 1 lb. ground beef with Soy Vay Island Terikai
Thinly slice onion and carmelize in a saute pan.
    Grill hamburgers.
    Grill pineapple slices.
    Grill ciabatta roll.
Place hamburger, pineapple slice, and carmelized onion on ciabatta roll and experience just a little bit of hamburger heaven!
    Enjoy!

  71. I’m laughing because my husband and I saw the show yesterday and that burger with the cheese about did us in. We both sat there drooling and then decided to have chips and cheese for supper- it was the next best thing to the burger that I could come up with!!

  72. Well, since you asked (you did asked, didn’t you?) short of a big, ole home made burger on a charcol grill my all time favorite would have to come from Five Guys Burgers & Fries! http://www.fiveguys.com/ They are a chain (generally not my favorite but….). I don’t know if you have them in your area but they are popping up around here every where I look. They are sooooo good, and sooooo unhealthy….did I mention they are amazingly good? LOL They also cut fresh potatoes for their fries and leave the skins on…yummmmmmmmmmmm.

  73. We caught that Food Network show on saturday, too. It was amazing. Made my husband crave burgers, and since the kids were buying in honor of Father’s Day, he chose the 5 & Diner next to the Harley Shop. Nothing like burgers and Hogs to make a man grunt like a neandrathal! My oldest daughter works at Applebees, and I LOVE their quesadilla burger! Yum! Of course, you know I’m gonna have to try that cheese-skirt-burger-masterpiece…

    ~TaunaLen

  74. Gyros/Purple Onion makes a scrumptious burger! But I also like to make my own and put mustard, cheese, ketchup and jalapenos on it. Yum!

  75. After going back and reading the comments I saw someone mention MILO’s! How could I forget?! I feel sorry for the other 49 states that don’t have a Milo’s around. LOL

  76. I have never personally had one, but I saw a tv show once that was touring ball parks and testing the food, and there was this one who made a burger and for the bun, they split a Krispe Kreme donut in half and used that — sticky side to the meat. Never tried it, but I love Hawaiian bread with burgers and barbeque and that is a sweet bread, so I’m thinking the donut thing might work. The lady doing the interview wouldn’t try it cause it had about 60,000 calories, but the entire camera crew, chowed down and said they were great!

  77. Jeannette says:

When I was growing up a local resturant had a burger called the “Lehr’s Z Burger” It had thinnly sliced lettuce on it and a sauce very similiar to a thousand dressing, I think. Now that we live in Texas, we use Tex-Joy. It is a seasoning made here in Beaumont Tx. But if you have a Jason’s Deli they dell it.
I would like to know if you have a particular way to put the burger together? For me the mayo, lettuce and tomato is on one side of the burger. Then on the other side is the ketchup, mustard and pickles.
Am I being to OCD about this?

  78. It’s such a shame. I love ALL burgers. I mean it. Fuddrucker’s. Ruby Tuesday’s. Burger King’s. McDonald’s (oh be quiet). And even those upscale steak restaurants that have a fancy dancy burger topped with carmelized onions and bleu cheese.

In fact, the first question I ask when I find out that someone is a vegetarian is: “How can you not eat HAMBURGERS!?”

    It’s not natural.

  79. My favorite burger is EVERY burger.

  80. I buy the big pack of 93% lean beef from W-M and use half of it for burgers on the grill. To keep it close to Weight Watcher’s plan, I use 1 can Rotel-type tomates/chiles and a good spice mix (I make my own, but Tony Chachere’s is good too.)

Don’t drain the Rotel. You need the juice b/c of the low fat beef.

Anyway…. That’s my current fave burger fix.
