Get Ready, Internets: It’s A Post With Words AND Pictures

All righty. I just fixed myself a cup of coffee (regular, not decaf – because I am LIVING ON THE EDGE), cranked up some Watermark (my original pretend-BFF Christy Nockels is singing “The Purest Place” – somebody say “AMEN” one time), and decided I’d sit down and write a blog post.

It would be helpful if something had, you know, happened.

I should re-phrase.

Stuff has happened, of course – just not anything terribly bloggable. Alex has been going to swimming lessons in the mornings, and then we eat lunch, and then we have play time outside, and then he has rest time, and then I start supper, and then we eat supper, and then it’s bath time, and are you starting to see why I don’t have a whole lot to say?

I did write a post a few days ago about how stinkin’ hot it is, but then I figured no one’s day would be improved by reading about my dislike of the heat and how the heat that I don’t like makes me sweat and I don’t really like sweating either.

But certainly this post you’re reading right now is going to improve the quality of your day by leaps and bounds.

So, in the absence of anything exciting, here are pictures of some random summertime fun.

img_2821.jpg
This was one day last week when it was terribly hot (DID I MENTION THAT I DON’T CARE FOR THE HEAT?), so I let A. water the plants on the deck. But he tried to water his mama instead. At which point I thanked the Lord for closed doors.

img_0079.jpg
This was one day when it was terribly hot, so A. had little mid-morning ice cream treat. And then tried to use the remote control to make me go away.

It was a tender time.

img_0110.jpg
This was one night when it was terribly hot, so A. decided to go back inside my brother and sister-in-law’s house. Because, you see, there were no mosquitoes indoors.

img_2361.jpg
This was one day when it was terribly hot, so A. settled in for a nap in the comfort of his air conditioned playroom. A nap with Pluto, a stuffed frog, and three DVDs stacked neatly on his finger. Which is exactly where DVDs should be.

And you know what? Looking at these pictures of my four year-old little man reminds me of a very important fact: FOUR TOTALLY ROCKS.

I am loving four.

Not even the heat can change that.

It’s just that I love four a little bit more in the air conditioning.

Where it’s cool.

  1. I miss four! But, fifteen and seventeen and eighteen and twenty are pretty dang awesome — and in a few (hopefully four or five) years I’ll have another few rounds of four with my grandchildren. So I guess it’s okay. Adorable pics of A.

    ~TaunaLen

  2. Four is fun! I love the pictures especially the one where he tried to get you with the hose. Brings back some memories. ;v)

  3. It is a rare talent to be able to sleep with DVD’s on your finger. He is gifted. And really, just so sweet.

  4. Great pic’s. I agree that four is an awesome age. I love it too!

I also agree that the heat is not fun. At all.

  5. Stop by and enter my drawing. ;>)

    Four. Is. Cool.

  6. Oh, the memories! Four was SO sweet!! Fourteen??? I’ll get back to you on that one!!

    Gotta love ’em!

  7. J was 4 when he finally lost his training wheels. I think that was my favorite year.

  8. Speaking of ages. I was actually coming on here to ask you something about two. You know, that TERRIBLE TWO stage. What do you do? I mean not you, I? I am going CRAZY with my almost (3 weeks away) 2 year old. Every other minute she is laying on the floor screaming. I am barely getting past the last one, and another one is already starting. :( Any advice ???PLEASE!!!!!!!

  9. I’m hopeful now that Zach will be much better at 4 than he as at 3. He’s been so WHINEY!!!

Great pics though and I too HATE this heat!!!

  10. I hate the heat too. I can’t comment on four, not there yet, but I am looking forward to it. And your little guy, simply adorable! And talented, love the DVD’s! Now that is a classic photo!

  11. Four was my favorite age (all three times!). It’s the age of wonder and magic… Oh how I miss four!

  12. oh. my. gosh.
The Dvd’s on the finger is CRACKING ME UP. I am going to wake my children from all the giggling I’m doing here.

That looks like something one of my kids would do.

“I know what I wanna watch after this nap and I wouldn’t want Mommy to hide the SAME THREE SHOWS I’ve insisted on watching every day for the past 17 weeks while I am asleep, So…. I’ll just keep them right here on the crook of my finger for safekeeping, thank you very much. I’m 4. And I’m clever. A hilarious combination at times I’m told.”

  13. ok lets put my blog link in here right this time. so distracted by Alex’s cuteness I cannot even remember where I blog at.

  14. i am a spaz. and i need help. note to self RE READ WEBSITE ADDRESS BEFORE PRESSING SUBMIT. note to Boomama: feel free to delete this nonsense from me.

  15. Looks like a fun summer, despite the heat. I’m not a “heat” girl either. And my girls are highly allergic to mosquito bites, so we don’t venture into the great outdoors from late July to mid-September. And that’s just fine with me! Sleeping with the CD’s in hand is soooo precious! I love that picture. You need to frame that one and hang it proudly in your home!
    Blessings,
    Georgia Mom

  16. Awesome picture of Alex taking a nap. I sleep the EXACT SAME WAY – Pluto, frog, DVDs. Except I stack 4 DVDs on my finger, since I’m a little older and more mature.

  17. My girls are 18 & 15, but four was my favorite age I think, four is awesome! I am totally with you on not enjoying the heat…I’m thankful we don’t get too many of those days here.

  18. *sigh* I love those lazy summer days. The picture is precious. You should send that picture the same time you are requesting pre-release CD’s for drawings to show how well they will be taken care of!

My boys are older but I have loved every stages of their lives, even when they got in trouble!

Enjoy Alex while you can. . .lazy summer days fly by quickly.

  19. Four is fun. I’m trying to convince my 4 yo that though. He’s so ready to be 5, that all he talks about is his ‘5 years old birthday party soon’ (in 6 months!). His brainwashing is actually starting to work, because I accidentally told someone last week that he’s 5. Silly Mama.

  20. There IS something magical about four. Soak it up! Every year is of course wonderful in its own way, but I MISS four. Loved it all four times.

  21. Definitely a guy…protecting his DVD’s. Now the question is, which four were they?

  22. suzanne says:

Ah, yes, four is fab even in the heat. He’s adorable.
And I hate heat, too, yet I have my own little personal heat wave to deal with on a regular basis! ;(
And I’m thinking TaunaLen is right.
Oh, and as for the two’s…….just gotta get ’em through it. It’s all to prepare you for adolescence! ;0

  23. I think even Jesus is easier to love in the air conditioning.

  24. A/C is my favorite invention. You are my favorite blogger.

Okay, there, now I’m out of the lurking closet. Phew! That was easier than I thought.

  25. And because I was so nervous, I forgot the most important comment about four being (one of) my favorite age(s).

  26. So are you saying that it was and still is and will probably continue to be, um, how do you southerners say it? HOT?!

    =)

  27. Actually, BooMama, I love it when you blog about random everyday things. Though I don’t leave comments, I very much feel as if I have grown to know you, since I have gone back and read every post since the beginning.

Your musings of everyday life are funny and uplifting. Don’t sell yourself short. Lots of people can write about interesting things – only the best can write about the normal/common things in life.

You are one of the best.

    ~Lone Butterfly

  28. The Purest Place – I say “Amen”!

  29. Then you will love 5 then 6 and so on…because when they are YOURS, they never cease to astound you! Thats why our job, is the best job on earth! Even in the midst of the worst tasks of being a stay at home mom, I am so thankful I don’t have to be a brain surgeon!

  30. Cute, cute photos, Boo Mama. And thanks for the DVD storage tip!

  31. Jesslev says:

Girl, I am with you on the heat- You know it’s hot as —- over here in MS- It makes me sweat then I proceed to become irritable and very very unhappy! I love 4 too- But now my precious princess is almost 5!!! Makes me sad!

  32. I’m a rebel. I didn’t like my children…let me rephrase…my children were more difficult for me to manage as amazingly well as usual from ages 3.5 to 4.5; for me, they were too little to be big and too big to be little. And it was frustrating for all.

However, before that time and ever since, it’s been pure bliss. Perhaps I wax poetic since they are at camp. :O)

  33. Such cute pictures! I loved 4, too. It was a magical age and I hope I don’t sound like too horrible of a mother when I say that I look forward to when my now-1-year-old hits 4.

I particularly love the DVDs stacked on the finger. Yes, clearly, that’s where they should go. Why else would a little finger fit so perfectly through the holes?

  34. Four looks pretty sweet, especially with the dvds, and of course, the water hose.

I can’t take the heat either–makes me cranky. And sweaty. Love the a/c though!

  35. Thought you might want to know that your BFF Mandisa is going to be on Regis & Kelly Friday… And it looks like she’ll be singing Only the World! yay! :)

  36. One day when you do a wedding slideshow for A, please include that picture of him sleeping with the 3 DVDs on his finger. Also, I hate it when people make me think about my son getting married one day, so forgive me.

  37. My fingers hurt just looking at those DVDs. He’s a cutie!! I loved the four stage (sigh).
I can’t stand hot either. I’m sure there is a loud AMEN to the a/c in all of bloggyville!

  38. Well,i’m glad y’all have heat because it’s been raining here almost non stop:( My little boy does that same thing with the dvd’s he loves them! Too funny! Love your posts!
    Blessings!
    Suzi

  39. Thank the Lord for closed glass doors. A closed screen door doesn’t help too much against a child with a hose. ;)

  40. But … I really think you should post a picture of an activity A did on a day that was just “terribly hot” — uh … never mind.

Adorable, and coming from the terrible twos that haven’t quite turned two yet … I am now totally, and fully looking forward to the fours. And counting down until then…

Jesus please keep me sane until then, because seriously … I wanna get to the fours alive and well. Amen.

  41. Love the DVDs on his finger…that is cute! I agree with you, four is a really good age. I like it much more than 3! Hope you get relief from the HEAT soon. I hate the heat too!

  42. These pictures are oh so sweet and I think 4 totally rocks, too! Especially 4 year old boys!!! I remember one particular video I have of my sweet little 4 year old (who is not a sweet big 11 year old). He was kicking a kickball across the front yard and he looked me dead into the camera lens and said, “I’m growin’ up!” It makes me cry even now because he certainly has done alot of growin’ up since then!!!

Love your blog — I guess I’m one of the “tens!”

    All this and Jesus, too!
    Dori

  43. P.S. Typo’d — what I mean to say is my son is NOW a sweet big 11 year old!!! Want to make that blessing perfectly clear!!! :)

  44. yeah, four is a super cool and fun age.
    so is 5… 6… ;0)

    Blessings,
    Karla

  45. Yes, you are so right! FOUR TOTALLY ROCKS! Ben just turned 4, and it is the magical age, I do believe. Enjoy your little guy!

  46. I agree four is WAY better than three was! Three was all mouthy. Four is still mouthy but getting better.

  47. Yup. A Four is a blessing and an absolute delight. =)

  48. LOVE the sleepy DVD pic. My “baby” boy is now ten years older than yours (and his big bro is three years older than him), and while every age is great, I miss the days when my sweet babies were, well, sweet babies. They used to looooove their momma huggin’ and kissin’ on them all the time. Now they put up with it because they know they have to, but it’s just not the same. Maybe that’s cuz I have to reach up to do it — ya think?

I’m still told I have sweet teenage boys, but this independence thing is a kick in the teeth… enjoy A. while he’s small!

  49. These pics are great! Thanks so much for sharing.

This morning, before heading in to work, Snuggle Bug and I went on a tiger hunt! We each had a long stick and Snuggle Bug lead the hunt, most often at a dead run I might add. We ran all around our neighborhood, stopping abruptly from time to time to examine bugs and to attempt to pet a jackrabbit that we discovered (we weren’t successful).

On my way to work I thought to myself, I really LOVE this 2 1/2 year old stage! It’s so much fun. :)

  50. Awww, my guy is 4 and the other day he told me that when he grew up, he was going to let me come for sleepovers. Then he told me that he was going to live in, “Ummmm….North Carolina!” and then proceeded to ask me if North Carolina was very far away.
The whole time my head was reeling because I’m thinking, “You can’t grow UP!” I love 4! *wipes away tear*

But then today I wrote a lovely post about how I’m about to pull my hair out from the bickering with the 7-year-old so it’s balancing out!

  51. Ok, I LOVE the DVD picture. That rocks!

I have a 4 year old too, and it is the BOMB!

  52. Four does rock. When my daughter got through 3 or 3 1/2, we were pretty golden. My son just turned 3 though, and while lovin’ it, it’s a little dicey at times :)

  53. Ahh yes, four was awesome. But truth to tell, I am enjoying five just as much. I couldn’t begin to list the reasons.

Today, maybe it was the two pairs of underwear G was wearing under his shorts, or that J still forgets to take of his PJ bottoms sometimes before donning fresh clothes for the day.

Five is good too, and it is getting better, now that the camping equipment is starting to dry out after the day the boys brought the sprinkler around and decided to ‘wash out’ the garage where I was sorting the gear. Ahhh, the wonderful days.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. They make a mama’s heart feel good.

  54. ok i loved the pictures

  55. That last picture is just plain sweet!

  56. Great pics!

Even though we ain’t in The South, it’s hot here too…and humid…and we don’t HAVE air conditioning because this is Maine and It’s not supposed to ever actually GET hot. This, even though it’ gets hot AND humid every single summer. You’d think we’d have figured this out by now.

  57. I am loving the DVD’s stacked on the finger!!! How precious is that! :)

  58. Four was an excellent year. I really miss four.

And your DVD storage system is awesome. Everybody should have one of those.
