Alex’s teacher asked every child in his four year-old kindergarten class to explain how to cook a Thanksgiving turkey.
Here was the little man’s response:
“I would pick up my turkey at Publix. Once I got home I would take it out of the bag and cover it in sauce, pepper and cheese. They already cook it at Publix so I wouldn’t have to cook it at home. You just take it out of the bag and eat it.”
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
HAHA! You may not batter it but the best Turkey definitely comes Deep Fried!!!
He is too cute! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
It so fun to hear how kids think the world works.
Well the cheese part confirms that he shares your DNA.
Hey, he appreciates convenience – I like that! My son hears the microwave timer beep and he comes running and says “Dinner’s Ready!”
I am so with Alex on this one. I so miss my Publix here in small town, and I love, loved getting that turkey already done and ready to eat. Nasty, raw turkey . . . not for this girl : )
Happy Thanksgiving to y’all!!
Here’s the proof that Alex and I have the same genes:
“They already cook it at Publix so I wouldn’t have to cook it at home.”
tee hee
Dang. Is he cooking for Thanksgiving? And if he is, may I come?
That Howard. he may just be the next Top Chef!
At least he gave your credit for sauce, pepper and cheese!
You are not a lazy momma. And he knows it (and now apparently his teacher does too). Most momma’s would’ve settled for plain with a side of ketchup.
I don’t think my 8yo has ever seen me cook a turkey! I can and have, but we usually go to my in-law’s for Thanksgiving (where I contribute one lonely pie) or when we go to my parent’s house, I make lasagna or enchiladas.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Marsha
Be glad he didn’t say he had to buy a pre-cooked bird as he was tired of turkey that looked like leather and tasted like saw dust.
Mmmm, fried turkey…
Or turkey Alex’s way. I’m not picky.
Alex is my kinda guy. This year is supposed to be my first year in our three and a half years of marriage with Thanksgiving–or any holiday, for that matter–in my own home. My hubby’s parents are even here. And our dinner? Almost the entire thing? It’s coming straight from the lovely Vons service deli. I should feel guilty, I think. But I don’t.
Yes, Publix is where you buy turkey. You have one smart kid on your hands!
When my oldest did this in preschool (many years ago, sniff, sniff) one of the kids said (and I just ran across this yesterday, as I was cleaning) “you go to the chicken house, play it some soft music and then cut it’s head off!”. Okay, the soft music part always throws me over the edge. I’ve laughed about that one for years! Poor little turkey. He never knew what was coming.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
When my oldest was near your sweet boy’s age, we stopped at the grandparents one afternoon. My son kept interrupting my chit-chat with my mother-in-law to ask what was for dinner. Finally, exasperated, I told my son we were having “cat poo and dog pee” for dinner.
His immediate, humiliating response? “AGAIN?!?!?”
I nearly crawled under the car. :)
Precious! I love that he added cheese.
Please tell Alex how much I appreciate his sharing that recipe! I am going to try that this Thanksgiving! :)
What a proud moment. I mean, really. Sauce and cheese? Classy. You must be so proud. :-)
Aw, that just makes me miss Publix more. I’m not making my own turkey this year. Al request that I not, because apparently it’s just too stressful. I am trying not to spend much time reflecting on what that means, because I have dazzling, stupifying sides to prepare to make up for my sto-bought bird. My biggest issue with it really is that since I don’t giblets and a neck, I cain’t make m’gravy right. But I’m just tryin’ to keep my chin up about that. Hope you and Howard and the gang all have a fabulous, fun, memorable Thanksgiving… eat a giblet for me.
How cute! His recipe actually sounds kind of good, maybe we will give it a try (and cook it of course : )
Ahh, a child well educated in the fabulousness that is Publix.
How cute! So, is the turkey your responsibility this year? ;)
My 4 year old did this too…he said that you go to the grocery store and buy the turkey, then take it to the turkey store (local bbq place that smokes, carves and plates it on your own platter) where they cook it. Then you take it to Thanksgiving and it’s yummy!
Oh, such a proud mommy moment! You are teaching him well.
Mmmm Mmmmm Mmmmm!! lol!
Too cute! His turkey would probably turn out better than mine this year. :)
This is a child who understands that holidays are supposed to be about family and fellowship and not about cooking and cleaning! What a great kid.
I heard Vicki Courtney one time say her first grade son’s class made a recipe book and his contribution was his mother’s chocolate chip cookie recipe. It read: Buy a roll of cookie dough. Snip off the end with scissors. Scoop out dough with spoon and eat it. Repeat until your tummy hurts!
I think Alex is very advanced! Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving.
Made me think of this . . .

Did I do that link right? I’ve got to learn more about these new fangled computers!
Someday he’ll be a great chef! ;-)
oh man if it were just that easy.I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving.
This reminds me of my good friend describing her Thanksgiving…”Bob’s out smoking our turkey” or “Bob smoked the turkey”. I could never quite listen w/o a little snicker…
I know…I’m not so mature. Happy Thanksgiving anyway.
My 4 year old daughter’s recipe for turkey called for salt, pepper, turkey, broccoli and spinach (the only 2 veggies she likes). Cook at 40 degrees for 90 minutes. So other than the salmonella, I think she’s got a winner there.
