While I recognize that the title of this post might lead you to believe that the choir pulled some sort of practical joke at church yesterday morning, that is not the case at all, my friends.
Please do allow me to explain, oh thank you.
About three years ago I gave the husband a CD called “Hymned” by Bart Millard, the lead singer of Mercy Me. And we were crazy about the CD the very first time we listened to it. I loved being able to play Bart’s CD-o-hymns in the car with my little fella – who, if memory serves, was around two years old at the time. And even though the words to “Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior” were a little complex for his two year-old vocabulary, Alex did some mean bouncing in his car seat every time he’d hear that melody.
Anyhoo.
When I found out a few months ago that there was going to be a follow-up CD called “Hymned Again,” I was tickled to death. If you’ve read here for any length of time you know that THE MUSIC, I ADORE IT, and the old hymns are especially dear to my heart. Maybe it’s because I learned them when I was a child and the lyrics just get richer with time, or maybe it’s because I love singing the words that believers have been singing for generations, or maybe it’s because there’s so much rock-solid doctrine contained within four verses and a chorus. Regardless, I firmly believe that the old hymns are a treasure we need to intentionally share with our families.
So. If you’d like to win one of ten autographed (FANCY!) copies of “Hymned Again,” leave me a comment and tell me your favorite hymn. If you’re not so familiar with hymns, then just tell me your favorite song (in other words: no church-y background required to win).
And if you’d like a little hint of the musical goodness on this CD, you can watch the clip below.
This giveaway will be open until tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 central time, at which point I’ll close the comments and Mr. Random Integer Generator will select our ten winners.
Have fun, y’all!
This giveaway is now closed.

Amazing Grace is one of my favorites.
I’ll Fly Away or I Feel Like Traveling On.
Come Unto Me….love that one.
Great is Thy Faithfulness! It speaks such a wonderful message!
BTW, I love all the songs everyone mentioned!! It’s hard not to name 5, 10 or even 20!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, Hymned! Anytime you can take a classic and put a new spin on it…perfection!
Holy Holy Holy
Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee
I am a needle in this haystack…singing Grace Grace, God’s Grace.
See you this week!!
Love,
holly

bringing in the sheets…or sheaves…and sheeths…or something that rhymes with knees…seas…
okay…how about amazing grace..i know that one
Thanks to my 2 year old it’s I’ll Fly Away
Before she was born she could be in a sound sleep then they’d sing this song in church and she’d wake up and dance. Then when she was born (4 weeks early and full of colic) I could sing that song to her and she’d fall asleep
Oh definitely How Great Thou Art and Victory in Jesus! Love those!!
It sounds like a great CD! I don’t know if I can just pick one hymn. A few of my favorites are Ode to Joy (also referred to as Joyful, Joyful) and Amazing Grace. Thanks!
I LOVE Mansion Over the Hilltop — can’t wait to get to mine and sit myself down on the front porch with some old friends!
Love your site, Boomama!
Come Thou Fount
Prince of Peace Control My Will still fits me to a T. I so need that at ALL times.
I’ve got a couple favorites, but if I have to choose just one, probably “Come Thou Fount!”
I’m new at blogs took me awhile to find out how to leave a comment.
In the Garden is a favorite. I remember hearing my aunt sing it when I was little and when I hear the song I hear her voice.
“I Need Thee Every Hour” and “Come Thou Fount” LOVE them both!!!
Great Giveaway!!!
It Is Well With My Soul. Yes indeedy.
To choose one hymn? Thats’ near impossible! I think my favorites would have to be “Amazing Grace,” “The Wonderful Cross,” “It Is Well With My Soul,” and “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.” I would love to be picked!!!
For sure mine is Blessed Assurance.
“Jesus I My Cross Have Taken” – because I love to hear my barely four year old sing “destitute despised forsaken, who from hence my all shall be, perish every fond ambition, all I’ve longed or hoped or known, but how rich is my condition, God and heaven are still my own!”
“O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go” is my favorite. At our youth summer camp this year, our worship leader Sara Beth Geoghegan sang these words to a new, lovely tune. I love it either way!
So hard to choose just one, but I do love “Are You Washed In The Blood”.
I’m a gospel song kind of gal- I love “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” and “I’ll Fly Away”!!
My all time favorite … Amazing Grace! As a child, I loved Victory in Jesus. :)
Oh how I love the hymns! Growing up in a Southern Baptist church on request night I always requested There’s a Sweet Sweet Spirit in this Place. Also love Old Rugged Cross!
I love the Old Rugged Cross. I can never make it through all of the verses without getting choked-up. Everytime I sing it I picture a sweet old man that would get up to do specials when I was a little girl at church and this was his favorite thing to sing, his voice would fill the church and it was just a glimps of what it will be like when we all get to heaven and sing at our Saviours feet!
Well…I love ‘Softly and Tenderly’. That bit about ‘come home, come home’ always makes me cry buckets.
I ventured over to iTunes and sampled a bit of this. Although the iTunes review is not too kind, I like what I hear….thanks!
I’ve always loved “It Is Well with My Soul.”
“Come Thou Fount” is my current favorite hymn. (They change like the wind.) It’s being played on our local Christian radio station right now; beautiful rendition. I can’t stop singing it. And I’m OK with that.
Okay, let’s see if I can make this 2 for 2. My favorite is How Great Thou Art. Carrie Underwood has a version out that is powerful to say the least. I am listening to it right now. The last verse gives me chills everytime I hear it. “When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation, and lead me home what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow with humble adoration, and there proclaim, My God HOW GREAT THOU ART!” If you are a believer and don’t get teary eyed when you hear those words, there is a problem:) Amy K.
“What a Day that will Be”
Be Thou My Vision
Amazing Grace
And so many others my mom used to sing to me that I don’t even know the names of, but the tunes are there in my head. :)
Wow, you’re reading LOTS of favorite hymns! I have “Redemption Songs” by Jars of Clay, which features several of my favorite hymns: “It Is Well” and “Jesus Love Never Failed Me Yet”.
Blessings!
Hymns are so wonderfully classic. I wish we heard more of them!!! I am excited to check this cd out :)
Wow! That’s hard, there are SO MANY. One of my favorites is Lead on, O King Eternal…because one of my childhood friends thought it was Lead on, O Kinky Turtle!
My favorite hymn is Jesus Is the Sweetest Name I know.
“The Love of God” is one of my favorites. That last verse gets me because it was supposedly found scrawled on the wall of a cell in a mental institution. I love thinking that even in that dark place, the love of God was shining for someone that the world had forgotten.
My very favorite is “How Deep the Father’s Love”
It brings fresh perspective on God’s sacrifice each time I hear it.
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
I love the line in it, “prone to wander, prone to leave the God I love.” it reminds me of my fallen nature, and of God’s unfailing love.
I’d have to go with “Blessed Assurance”, although “And Can It Be” and “Be Thou My Vision” are up there too.
O Sacred Head, hands down. With full four part harmony. Other top choices would be Purer in Heart and Nearer My God to Thee.
I was just talking about the lost hymns that we don’t sing in church anymore. I want my kids to grow up knowing the words to the hymns and hearing the music to them. I have lots of favorites, but how about, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know. Fills my every longing. Keeps me singing as I go.” And you have to sing it at a good clip with the elderly lady playing the piano.
Oh Mr. Random Integer Generator be good to me!
Without a doubt, “Great is Thou Faithfulness.” He’s so good.
Kay
I’m not sure I can wait to see who wins!!!
But one of my favorites, and I have lots, is Oh, How I love Jesus.
It’s hard to choose just one, but I guess I’ll say “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”. They’re all so good though…
Hard to pick – we love hymns! There’s A Fountain Free, We’re Marching to Zion, Count Your Blessings to name a few!
One of my favorites is “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” It’s a great reminder to me.
“I’ll Fly Away!”
I LOVE that one :)
I’ll jump in here, too. I love hymns and my all time top favorite is “I am Resolved.” I have about a hundred in my top ten, lol. Thanks for the contest. I’ll probably have to go out and buy a copy anyway. Thanks!
I love Victory in Jesus and Blessed Assurance!
Too many really, but I’ll go with Amazing Grace and It Is Well.
Our family goes to a contemporary worship kind of church, so we don’t get to sing many hymns. We miss them! Some favorites: I’ll Fly Away, It is Well, Amazing Grace, and so many others mentioned.
“It is Well With My Soul”
Sorry, but I can’t say just one so I will say “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and “Holy, Holy, Holy” because those just say it all! ! ! !
Thank you so much!
I heard parts of it on KLOVE this morning and I would LOVE the CD!!!!!
I love so many hymns but I suppose 2 of my faves are Be Thou My Vision and It Is Well With My Soul.
“The Battle Belongs To The Lord ” or “Thank you, Lord”.
I love Pass me not oh gentle Saviot
My favorite is All The Way My Savior Leads Me. I sing it every night to my baby girl when I’m rocking her at bedtime. And it’s where the name of my blog comes from. God is so good to “cheer each winding path I take”!
My favorites are “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Peace Like a River.”
Just a Little Talk With Jesus. Gotta love southern gospel.
Blessed Assurance
Oh, I really want this!
Favorite hymn–A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
I love “Before The Throne” the lyrics are just beautiful.
Come Thou Fount is one of my favorites!
I love them all, but if I have to pick one, I’ll say “Victory in Jesus”
Be Thou My Vision
blessed assurance because that assurance is all i need.
OOOHH!
Love Divine, Old Rugged Cross, and I am the Bread of Life! What an awesome contest!
I love a lot of them but my favorite is Holy, Holy, Holy
Laura
I have so many favs, but one that I sang to my micro preemie son and have loved since I was a child is There’s Something About That Name. Thanks for the fun giveaway!
When I Survery The Wondrous Cross.
Love it!
The Old Rugged Cross
My favorite hymn…. ok 2 of my top faves: How Great Thou Art, and Joyful Joyful.
This is such a great contest! THANKS!
Immanuel’s Land
Be Thou My Vision
I’d Rather Have Jesus
The Love of God is my favorite hymn…I’m almost positive that Mercy Me did my favorite version and reacquainted me with this amazing song.
“Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the oceans dry,
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.”
Even as I type is I get the tears, they come. I also love “I’d Rather Have Jesus”. Billy Grahams right hand guy sang it at every crusade..I can’t remember his name right now. Thanks for making me think about this today…always good for me to reflect and let our Lord touch my heart with His goodness. I would love to win, but if I don’t I’m betting I’m going to get it for my dh’s birthday next month. I hadn’t heard of the first Hymned either, so maybe I will get him both! Have a great day. Oh, and ARE you coming to the siesta fiesta this weekend??? I was hoping so :)
