Quick Update

So, a few things:

1) I have some thoughts about our Southern Living discussion that I’ll post sometime tomorrow. I had NO. IDEA. that so many people would feel the same way I do. And I actually had a very lovely email exchange with someone who works at SL, and she was so gracious about everything that it sort of made me want to subscribe again just to support her and her colleagues. But I’ll tell you about all of that later.

2) If y’all get a chance, go visit Kelli and offer her some sweet encouragement. You can read all about her situation on her blog.

3) Podcast. Yes. We have recorded one. But I have not edited it. That’s on my list for tomorrow. We recorded it about a week and a half ago, so the news may be a little, well, old, but we’ll just pretend that it’s all current and topical and fun. M’kay?

In the meantime, enjoy this clip of Travis and some of his friends recording the choir parts for one of the songs on his Christmas CD. The husband and I were in Nashville the weekend they did this, and we were BLOWN AWAY by their talent.

What must it be like to produce beautiful melodious sounds when you sing? I have no experience with this. I do, however, have a great deal of experience producing unappealing monotone sounds.

And yet surprisingly, no one has ever offered me a recording contract.

4) Praying for all of you in Ike’s path. Be safe.

5) That’s it. Going to bed. Hasta luego, internets.

  1. Weird, I clicked away to look at the comments, and when I came back there was a new post up. Twilight zoney.

Ok, I have a deep dark confession to make too, since we are confessing confesses to each other. I canceled my subscription to SL sometime between baby 1 and baby 3. I was in so deep in babyness, they just sat there unread, and when magazines sit unread, especially ones with really good recipes, it stresses me out no end. I felt *guilty* about not reading my magazines and I decided that was a whole level of pressure I didn’t need at this juncture in my life. So I canceled all my magazines, including SL.

Ok. I feel better now, that I have gotten that out.

    Thank you.

  2. When I saw your original post about the cheapening of SL, I thought to myself, “She’ll have herself a reply from SL by the end of the day.”

    And boom, you have it.

Can’t wait to hear what they said. Hope you scored a free subscription.

  3. I would LOVE to be a part of that choir. mmm I love choir! I miss it here in CO.

And as for SL? I KNEW you would hear from them today, my friend. I just re-subscribed a couple of months ago and have read nary a one. I didn’t know why I wasn’t salivating ove it like I used to do. And you put it all into perspective.

Praying for that cast o’ pod tomorrow.

    Love,
    Holly

  4. Isn’t the Lord so good to give you so many women friends who are suffering with this whole SL thang too? Oh, friend, I am praying for you.

And if I tell you that I haven’t even looked at a SL since I was at my momma’s house in June because there they were sitting on her coffee table like a good Texas woman would have them sitting, will you still be my blog friend?

  5. Thanks so much. Now I know how Heaven must sound. Loved the clip.

  6. That Video!

The goosebumps – I have them.

  7. Really looking forward to the next podcast.

  8. I am on pins and needles just waiting to hear what SL had to say!

  9. I saw Travis and the Thompson Station Baptist Church choir sing All Bow Down in Gatlinburg and because I am old and can’t remember if that was a year ago or longer but I think it was a year ago, and I LOVED this song. It was fun being there with my friend Dori and getting to hang out with the choir and praise team. They had to wear jeans and a black top and I decided I would wear the same and after the choir was through singing the confernce attendees were congratulating the choir on their singing, and they all thought I was in the choir and told me how good I sang and all I could do was say thank you. lol!! If you heard me sing you would realize how funny that is. :)

About SL, I can’t wait to read about that. I really do look forward every year for their fall and winter issues.

    Have a great day.
    Patty

  10. Oh how I love a podcast.

    Can’t wait to hear it!

Thanks for sharing the choir–beautiful. Just beautiful!

  11. I just want to share that I’m LOVING the Bart dance! I keep going back and watching it over and over (I know, I’m a few days behind…)

Love the video up there too!

  12. Thanks for the prayers Sophie! We left SE TX yesterday and are now is Gulf Shores, Alabama. So thankful family and I are together and safe. I pray everyone stays safe!

  13. Look at you, Miss Bilingual!

LOVED the choir clip. Great way to start the day!

  14. Goosebumps. All over. Can’t type. Too overcome by the glory of their voices. Oooh, I hope I win one of those Christmas cds…

  15. You know, I got an iPod recently and a $25 iTunes gift card. I purchased one of Travis Cottrell’s albums with it…(choosing was a MAJOR difficulty)…anyway, ever since, my shuffle setting has been addicted to Travis, Chris Sligh, and Chris Tomlin! I swear I have almost 200 songs, but just about every other one it plays is Travis! Good taste, my iPod has…:)

  16. Thanks for the clip. It is my dream to be able to be in a crowd like that. I mean, dang! Also, as pertains to that particular song, our praise team sang it last year at Christmas and we plan to do the same this year. A frind of mine who has a talent for all things facetious came to me afterwards and said, “So what’s the point of that song? Jesus shaves? But I thought he had a beard?” I will never be the same, even though I still love the song. It cracks me up. So that’s all. (:

  17. Wow! You have some power! I would love to know what the SL lady said. My mother could fill a house with all her SL issues.

  18. Thanks so much for the video clip! My former Music Minister is in that video, just a little to the left of Travis in the front. I knew they went to Travis’ church, but it’s so cool to see him just randomly like that. What a blessing! Love that song too. We’ve done the arrangement from All Bow Down, and it always blesses me every time we get to sing it.

As for the SL thing, I haven’t cancelled it yet, I just can’t seem to give up the recipes…however, I am giving up Coastal Living in exchange for Country Living. I just need a change, and decided that was the one I could live without.

  19. What is this Southern Living thing you speak of. I don’t think I have heard of it out here in California

  20. P.S. I am not offended that the Travis video only includes half of my shoulder, next to Angela Cruz. Lot’s of my hubby though…

  21. Hi! Long time blog follower here.
I had the opportunity to mention you on my blog today. Go check it out!

  22. Keep the prayers coming in our direction. I’m 50 miles off the coast and am “sheltering in place” as we’re not in the flood zone, but they are now predicting that Galveston island could be totally submerged before it’s all over with.

  23. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can’t tell you the deep disappointment I felt when that ugly new Southern Living came in the mail. I distinctly remember thinking, “Well, that’s it. They’ve hit rock bottom.” SL has been slowly declining over the last couple of years: poor writing, horrendous decorating, lazy gardening effort, and so few recipes. Glad to hear it wasn’t just me being snooty about it.
    Holley

  24. I am so jealous (in a healthy way of course :)…I soooooo wish I could have been there! Thanks for sharing the clip!

  25. Oh WOW! To be able to be involved in the choir and sing under Travis’ direction…that would be AWESOME! Glad you got to be a part and give us a little glimpse!
