There’s a five year-old in this house who loves movies.
No, there’s a five year-old in this house who LOVES movies. And for the last couple of weeks, he’s offered me the same gentle reminder at least once a day: “Mama. I need for you to please remember something. Madagascar 2 is in theatres on November 7th.”
MEMORIZE PREVIEWS MUCH?
So, since one of our favorite mama / son activities is to go to the movie theatre and find good seats and lift the armrest in between the two of us and snuggle up and share some popcorn and laugh a whole bunch, the little guy and I made a trip to the movies this afternoon. It was damp and rainy outside – pretty much perfect movie-going conditions – and once we bought our tickets and got settled in our seats, I decided there was nowhere on earth I’d rather be at that moment, and the only thing that would’ve made it any better would be some sort of seatside diet Coke fountain / Rotel dip dispenser / melted milk chocolate pump with bowls of tortilla chips and pretzels readily available.
Oh, the sweet and salty combination is a gift, isn’t it?
Anyway, we watched the movie and I got just a wee-bit teary-eyed when I saw the animated versions of acacia trees (LET ME REPEAT: ANIMATED TREES MADE ME TEARY-EYED, FEEL FREE TO PITY ME), and then I laughed a whole bunch at the silly antics of the wacky animals. I even decided as I gazed upon the animated African landscape that I could totally live there, maybe even in a tent right alongside the Nile provided that someone can figure out how to air condition the outdoors, because really, what could be more natural (and sensible!) than a girl who has numerous nature-related phobias deciding to spend the rest of her life camped out next to a river where wild animals roam freely?
So. Back to Africa it is. I’m glad that’s settled.
Also: I may have dozed off in the movie for one or fifteen minutes because I was a little chilly and the little guy snuggled up really close and I got all warm and toasty and my eyelids felt a little heavy and then suddenly it was VERY loud and I was totally surprised that the airplane was working again, but even with my gaps in plot point memory I can tell you that the movie is super cute and I especially enjoyed the music, the end.
(I mean, it’s no High School Musical 3, but that is understandable since there is no basketball-playing / drama-loving tiger named Troy Bolton in Madagascar 2.)
(But if there were? I’d give it seven out of five stars.)
(With four exclamation points at the end.)
(OHMYGAH TROY!!!!)
So now we’re home, and we have exactly zero items on our weekend agenda, which is JUST LIKE I LIKE IT. Hopefully the husband will build us a fire, and I’m going to sit on the couch with my favorite blanket and watch TV and enjoy the blessed calm while I try to figure out if I’m going to cheer for Alabama or LSU in their game tomorrow.
Which is to say: I think our weekend’s gonna be just dandy.
Hope yours is, too.

I also like to move it move it – DH is not a fan of animated animals singing but he can be persuaded with adequate snacks to watch a dvd with me! Looking forward to Madagascar Deux on dvd in a few months!
Um, you’re going to cheer for BAMA.
I’m so glad to know it’s cute! We love the first one, and always end up having dance party U.S.A. at the end. We like to Move it too!;)
Ooh, we cannot WAIT to see M2 tomorrow! We like to move it, move it also. Knowing that you enjoyed it makes me feel all the better about spending the mega-bucks for the whole gang to go….
Sounds like my kinda fun!!
Hee Hee! You are so funny! And I also frequently get a little weepy during animated movies. (and perhaps the odd commercial)
We can’t wait until Tater Tot is old enough to take to the movies because his Daddy and I are movie freaks! And the animated ones? Well…let me just tell you that we both WEPT during the opening credits of The Lion King. That’s right….we are big ol’ saps.
We still have a few years before we’re movie-theatre bound, but we look forward to it.
Happy relaxing weekend to you!
Can I just say you crack me up? HILARIOUS. I mean I laugh out loud OFTEN with your posts.
Rock…you do!!!
.mac :-)
Cheering for LSU is just WRONG.
I did like that you got toasty and fell asleep with your little guy. That is indeed a blessing!
The nephew wants to see Madagascar 2 SO BADLY. Not as badly as he wanted to see HSM 3 though. (Which he saw opening weekend) ;-)
My brother-in-law would greatly appreciate it if you would support LSU. GEAUX Tigers! :-)
You have to decide who you’re going to cheer for?
YOU HAVE TO DECIDE WHO YOU’RE GOING TO CHEER FOR?
Sophie. Have I not taught you anything?
Never, ever, cheer for Alabama. Ever.
Geaux Tigers.
And I agree. HSM3 flat out rocked.
Just took all 3 of my kids (including the 14-year-old man/boy) AND The Grandma to see HSM 3. It was all I could do to keep from dancing up the theater aisles! ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! The 14-year-old? Not-so-much.
we can’t wait to go see it around here either. i have a 7 yr old that continually gives me the same reminder daily! and you better pull for alabama!! i just can’t bring myself to pull for lsu EVER!
GO DAWGS!!!
Alabama and LSU is a hard choice. As a fellow SECian (Arkansas to be exact), it makes it tough because I don’t like Nick Saban and I DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVER like LSU. So we might have to go with Alabama. We shall just see…
Hope your weekend is a wonderful one. No matter who you cheer for.
It sounds like heaven. I wish I had nothing to do this weekend.
My son also wants to go see Madagascar 2, but he also wants to see HSM3. If he’s really good this weekend, we might go next week to a movie. It sounds like we’ll have fun either way.
Also, cheer for LSU. Geaux Tigers!!!
Catherine
You haven’t heard? Your cheering for Bama of course!! :D
Ohhh, BooMama, I love it, just love your description of the movie!!
I agree with Robyn…Never ever cheer for Alabama. EVER. Even though you live there. NEVER. Also, feel free to come visit me in Uganda anytime between January 2010 and January 2012. We can even take a tent down to the Nile and camp if you would like, you know, to try it out before you make a drastic move to live in a tent full-time. :) I’m just sayin’.
We holed ourselves in last Saturday, wore clothes that I wouldn’t be seen out in public in, little girl wore a dress and a skirt at the same time because– hey, she needed coverage– we made Chicken Corn Chowder and a HOMEMADE from the pumpkin pumpkin pie. We watched movies. We folded laundry. We ate lots of Halloween candy. We had loads of fun. Hope that your weekend is as fun as ours was last week!
Now if you’ll excuse me, we’re off to Amish Country for the day.
Sweet and salty? Try mixing candy corn into your popcorn! To die for!
ALABAMA, BABY!!!!
For the love of all things good in this world, please stay Swiss on the game today! I love SEC football (I’m an Auburn student), but the thought of cheering for either team makes me dizzy…
You enjoy this wonderful weekend! I love that you loved that movie. And I love that you, like me, might have a teensy bit of a crush on Troy Bolton. :)
Great times! I’m with you…no place I’d rather be! For once we don’t have a long to-do list and I’m loving it!
Have a great weekend!
BOOMAMA ~ YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ~ YOU REALLY THINK THAT IS A DECISION WORTH EVEN THE SLIGHTEST PONDERING??? SAVE YOUR BRAIN SOME ENERGY….
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!! ALL THE WAAAYYY!!!
Sounds like a PERFECT way to spend a Friday afternoon to me! We are waiting till big brother can go see it with us, that is if he can squeeze us into his already super busy schedule of work and high school/college work!! If not we’ll go see it soon! Can’t wait!!
As soon as I read your title, I heard the song in my head and started to rock back and forth.
Have a great weekend.
The acacia tree part—what did I miss? You are way too cute Sophie. Enjoy your dandy weekend passing our your beautiful heart to your family—cause what’s on your heart, Deut 6:6, is what will stick with them! And it’s a beautiful message full of Him.
This coming Tuesday night I am riding a bus to Houston. Shannon and his lovely wife are being ordained into the mission field. Their destination is Southern Sudan. Their new home is being buiot now. They are selling their American home and possessions now. Their three boys will grow up knowing at least two languages.
They will have a fridge and a stove. And mama will be homeschooling the boys.
They are new to blogging, but this is their new blogspot. Toposafamily.blogspot.com
Ok, of all the fun things in this entry, I’m still stuck on movie theaters where you can flip up the arm in between the seats! We certainly don’t have those anywhere near us and they sound heavenly!
I totally understand! I grew up in Africa and watching The Lion King used to make me homesick!
I’m glad to know we won’t be disappointed by Madagascar 2. I like to move it move it too.
And I love the idea of taking the little man to the movies. I will have to remember that when our boy gets big enough for that.
We need to see the first one. Sounds like you had a great time at the movies. I miss the “little guy” days with my son. He used to be a world class snuggler.
Jeanette – I am going to the same service on Tuesday! My dear friend is moving to Tanzania with her family of five! I will pray for you peeps when I pray for her. Travel mercies for your trip too.
My 4 year old came in so excited the other day and said,
“Mommy – you have GOT to see ‘dis” It is fun fow the WHOLE family!!!!!!”
Cute post!
Sophie treasure these days. They will be gone before you know it. My little ones are 21 and 18. I remember so well cuddling with them. I’ll bet we watched The Land Before Time at least 600 times. We could all recite the words.
My 5 year old is looking forward to the movie too!!! The first Madagascar was the first movie he ever saw in the theater. WOW! Hope your enjoying your weekend! I finally made a debut in the blog world yesterday. YEAH!!!! Fun Times!!!
So even though we lost…I sure hope you listened to Robyn and cheered for the Tigers!!
It was a great game, just wish we could have beat Bama. Boo.
Happy Sunday!
Honey, if you like the sweet/salty flavor then you’ve definitely got to try Milk Duds mixed in with your warm bag of popcorn. There is nothin’ finer! Simply pour your entire box of MD’s into your popcorn bag, give it a gentle shake (so as not to spill a single drop), wait about two minutes (if you can possibly stand it), and dive in! I swear honey, you will hear the angels sing! It’s hard to believe, I know, but your hands don’t even get messy. The popcorn ends up totally encircling each milk dud so you don’t even touch the melty chocolate. I’m telling you girl, it is worth a second trip to see Mad-2…mark my words. It’s so good it’ll make you slap your mother!
Confession: I can’t wait until my 13-month-old daughter begins to appreciate animated movies!
A weekend that isn’t jam-packed full of to-dos and obligations? Sounds heavenly! Hope you enjoyed it to its fullest!
We liked M2 also. But you are right, HSM3 was way better. I have to tell you, the funniest thing, when we went to see HSM 3, the opening scene where it is just TROY, a big ol close up of him getting ready to shoot the ball…. I mean huge up close shot….you know the one?
Well, a mom sitting behind me (not her pre-teen daughter) who was probably I would guess in her mid forties, said, and I quote “Sweet Mercy, would you just look at him”. It made my night!
Just got back from BR. Hubby a little sad over the loss, but still had a great time at the game. LSU gave them the game, unfortunately. I hope you cheered for them anyway. Geaux Tigers! I may live in AL, but I’ll always be a Tiger fan–and that’s the REAL Tigers, not the War Eagles!
So glad you had such a great weekend. L and I went to HSM3 on opening weekend and I am w/ you re. no place I’d rather be.
Your writing makes me smile.
I like to smile.
I like your writing.
And I would visit you in your African tent, but only if there was a Monkey Alarm(TM).
