Catch-Up

I feel like for the last couple of weeks my blog has been an endless succession of links and giveaways and giveaway winners, NOT THAT THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT, but because of all the linking and giving and random drawing-ing, I haven’t been doing a whole lot of writing-ing.

“Writing”-ing.

Whatever.

So hi. How are you?

I’m peachy, thanks.

Here’s our week so far, in case you were wondering, which you probably weren’t, but quite frankly this post is either going to have to be a run-down of this week or a random series of numbers (23! 58! 254! Congratulations!), so I’m going to commit to the former and cross my fingers and pray that I don’t bore you to tears.

What can I say? I’m a little bit off of my bloggy game.

Sunday we drove home and Mama came along for the ride. We unloaded the car, pulled out all the Christmas decorations, then managed to bedazzle the living and dining rooms in record time. David made pancakes for supper. I talked a lot about how cold I was. Alex broke the arms off of Luke Skywalker and consequently lost the privilege of playing with his Star Wars action figures for the rest of this week.

Oh, it was an evening fraught with drama.

Monday I worked all morning and then after lunch D. and I had to take my car to the shop so they could look at my brakes. I despise any car repair-related activity because I don’t know what the mechanics are talking about and I always feel like they’re speaking a foreign language and NO, I DON’T WANT YOU TO REPLACE MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS FOR THE LOW PRICE OF $39.95, THANKS A HEAP FOR ASKING.

Anyway, the first place we took the car said a bunch of stuff about how gosh, it was worse than they thought, so instead of having this thing and that thing repaired, we actually needed to have this thing and that thing replaced, and if you add up this thing and that thing you can clearly see how the grand total will come out to about $650.

SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS.

D. told them we were going to need to get a second opinion, and then we peeled out of the parking lot while we took turns breathing into a paper bag because SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS?

Merry Christmas, little man! We’d like to present you with these rotors! And they’re already installed on Mama’s car, sugar, so you’re just gonna have to look and not touch, m’kay?

We decided to get our second opinion from a mechanic that a friend of ours had recommended. New mechanic took a look at the car, said he could do everything that needed to be done for about 70% less that the first quote, and we proceeded to do hitch kicks and double stunts in his parking lot because we were so WAY BEYOND RELIEVED, MY WORD.

Then we got home and Alex was hiding under our bed because Mama had fallen victim to the stomach bug while we were trying to get the car fixed and, in the words of the five year-old, “My grandmother’s throw-ups are scaring me.”

Sweet, sweet memories.

So we checked on Mama and made sure she was okay and then D. and I ate Costco apple pie for supper.

Have you had the Costco apple pie? IT IS DELICIOUS.

Tuesday and Wednesday brought more work, some grocery shopping, some gumbo cooking and a grandmother who actually got out of the bed and even walked around the house for a bit. Wednesday night David and I went to see the latest James Bond movie. I was really looking forward to seeing it, but unfortunately it was just a’ight for me. Mainly because I don’t really care for films set in the desert. I get way too thirsty.

Thursday we made a totally impromptu road trip that I’ll be talking about later so that I can tell you how utterly and completely enjoyable it was and how if you asked me what the biggest blessing of 2008 has been (aside from family and Africa, of course), I would say, THE PEOPLE. Because sweet mercy at the friendships that have flat-out blessed my soul.

And now we’re at my brother and sister-in-law’s for the weekend, celebrating a couple of family birthdays and watching some cousins run around the house with light sabers and Nerf guns. I’m also staying in constant contact with the message boards to get up-to-the-minute reports on the MSU coaching search. Because I like to take my Bulldog-related obsessions with me wherever I go, even right up in the middle of a house full of Rebels.

And I believe that’s all.

Happy weekend, everybody!

  1. “My grandmother’s throw-ups are scaring me.” Oh. My. Gosh. ROFL

  2. The “thirsty” comment made me laugh. Haven’t seen the movie yet but maybe I’ll stash a water bottle in my purse, just in case.

  3. I am literally crying and laughing here! The comments about how you and hubby shared a paper bag to keep from hyperventilating is just so ON POINT!

Thank the Lord that my husband is mechanically inclined. My radiator blew two weekends back. Hubby didn’t really want to mess with it, so we called around for some estimates. When they were all at least 4 figures, we decided that he would do it himself…because the radiator is only $172, but the labor! WOW!

I sympathize with you and your hubby on the sticker shock. I really do!

BTW, don’t show Alex his Christmas present yet. You’ll ruin the surprise. :)

  4. Oh your poor car…ouch…sticker shock for sure. Glad you found a more reasonable ‘fixer’ for it! Hope Mama is feeling better and Alex found his way out from beneath the bed. Your writing just cracks me up and made my morning. Have a great weekend. Warmly, Cathy ^..^
p.s. Yes! Huzzah for Costco apple pie!

  5. That’s it!

I have never typed this sentence on a blog comment before and don’t ever plan to again:

You are the most hilarious writer. You make me smile even when I don’t want to.

    That is all.

  6. Um…I haven’t had Costco Apple Pie yet, but the description of Grandma’s throw up and the apple pie were a little too close together there for me…so I’m not sure I’ll *ever* try it now…heh-heh…

I came over to grab the Christmas Tour button and got completely distracted, thanks for making me laugh as usual, you have a gift you know?

    Melissa~

  7. I have often wondered how one would go about spelling “a’ight”. And now I know. Thank you, Boo Mama.

  8. Whew! I’m tired now. You are too funny!

  9. Poor Alex. No 5-year-old should have to witness his grandmother’s throw-ups.

  10. Oh, poor grandma! Won’t that stomach flu end?

Good news on the brakes, though! Have a great nerfy weekend!

  11. Hope your Mama is feeling much better.

  12. It’s good to see you “writing” again.

  13. I’m glad you’re back!

  14. I am so sorry that your Mama got the bug!

    Have fun with the family!

  15. We share the obsession for all things bulldog. I believe we have one and it will be announced Sunday. You know we can’t steal any thunder from Bama and UF today. This is one drama I’m ready to see end.
I once saw my grandma throw up and I wanted to hide under the bed too. Only difference, I was in my 30’s. Just never a good time for that.

  16. BooMama! I thought I was the only one who didn’t like desert films (books too, hated Dune) because they make me thirsty.
Hmmm. Given that, deciding to live in West Africa was a strange choice. Oh well, Coke is available everywhere here.

  17. BooMama – So glad to see you back to writing! Your sense of humor always put a smile on my face. Have a great weekend!

  18. glad to have you back. we worry when you are away!

  19. Boo…desert movies make you thirsty? Are you kiddin’? ANY movie at the theaters makes me thirsty…All it takes is a whiff of popcorn!!

Oh,pleeeassseee…go look at my new Christmas picture of my squirrel girls (they love when their mom calls them that, but when you see the pic you will see why I do!!)

So glad your back making me grin and giggle!

  20. You know…you are a blessing. And now reading your post? I find that I am parched for a drink!

I can see your smile in my mind’s eye right now.

Fix those brakes and come to Colorado!
Love and prayers for you, Sophie!

  21. I just found your blog and added the button about Tour of Homes, I can’t wait to see how this works, what do people without blogs do for entertainment? Thanks for the fun!!!

  22. It’s always exciting when Moma comes home with you. I’m just so thankful she didn’t fall under the Christmas tree again this year!!!!
Hope she is feeling much better.

  23. You are so funny! I always have to read your posts to my husband because he wonders what I am laughing so hard about!;)

  24. the giveaways are good… But it is SO GOOD to have you back!

I’ve missed reading you when I’m procrastinating my laundry.

  25. ah, yes…we, too, love Costco apple pie. does your Costco sell the caramel apple variety? that’s what ours carries, and it is MMM, MMM, GOOD!

all this movie talk has me craving coke and popcorn, so i’m off to make the dream a reality. (i’m pregnant with my 3rd, so it doesn’t take more than a mere mention of food to turn into a full-blown craving!)

  26. I always enjoy reading about life in your bloggy world! Glad grandmother is better and learned Costco makes great apple pie. Two important facts. blessings.

  27. I AM WITH YOU ON THE COSTCO APPLE PIE!!!

Oh my word. Did yours have the carmel dizzle stuff on it? It will surely be on my heavenly banquet table. Along with your corn bread.

    Mercy.

Thank you Boo Mama and the Cracker Barrel that provided me with a cast iron skillet.

    Happy Weekend…

  28. Oh yes, Costco apple pie IS delicious. Yum.

I remember when you were seeking the advice of the internets when you were trying to decide between Sam’s and Costco, and I was firmly on the Costco side.

  29. AND………you forgot to mention….Go Wildcats! Broke the streak. South Panola, no longer 89 to 0.
MHS Class 5A State Champions in Jackson MS
    What a thrilla!
    GO CATS!
    Shoulda been there.

  30. Happy to know that even the GREAT BLOG WRITERS sturggle with the write-ing sometimes.

  31. Oh My Goodness!! How funny and what a week!!!

  32. Oh, poor Mama with her stomach bug! And amen to THE PEOPLE.

  33. I’m waiting to be comment #58. I’ll be back then…tee hee hee.

  34. This really has nothing to do with anything but I was “helping” my 2nd grader write a report on a bulldog. Yes ma’am. And, did you know that the bulldog is mainly an indoor pet, gets along well with others, loves children, does have some health issues, and is the mascot to many schools including MSU?! We threw in MSU just for you. :)

  35. I feel your pain. I just had a new transmission for $1600!! Just what you want to spend money on at Christmas. We are also Auburn fans, so we are going through the whole coach drama too. Fun times.

  36. your personal (hilarious) posts are me favorite, too! Welcome back. What a week!

  37. I often eat Sam’s apple pie for breakfast, yum. I’ll have to give Costco’s a try.
