Are You Ready To Random?

I can’t seem to get my brain to approach anything even remotely resembling coherence tonight, and that can only mean one thing, internets: it’s time for a list.

I’m sure you’re completely not thrilled by that fact, so please do commence with the not jumping and the not clapping. It’s time to not celebrate!

1. This afternoon I worked on a grocery list for something I’m helping with at church this weekend. And do you know what made me so happy?

My grocery list says “butter (10)” – because I need to buy TEN POUNDS OF BUTTER.

Fortunately, the butter is for lots of different dishes that will be served to lots of different people. That should bring some relief to those of you who were feeling a little worried that I was just making one casserole. Like maybe an Artery Clogging Surprise or something along those lines.

2. I think Cheryl and Gilles are the frontrunners in “Dancing With The Stars,” and I think Melissa and Tony are a close second. I should also mention that I’m having a hard time forgiving Tony for wearing this shirt a couple of weeks ago (if you can call it a shirt because really I think it’s more of a leotard), but I’m working through it.

After all, he is a grown man and completely within his rights to pick a costume that makes him look like an extra in a 1984 aerobics video entitled “Step To It!”

But it could’ve been worse: he could’ve worn a headband. So I’ll count my blessings.

3. Are any of y’all watching “Mad Men”? LOVE IT. But don’t spoil it if you’re all caught up because I’m only on the second episode of season two.

4. Yesterday I looked at my search engine terms for the first time in a while, and I was especially intrigued by this one: how to dress like Jack Bauer.

Does the solution to this dilemma seem overly obvious to anyone else? Because I’m thinking that if you want to dress like Jack Bauer, you pretty much just need to put on an assortment of black clothing items and then wear them for 24 hours in a row. Maybe you need to rip the knee of your pants around hour six, and maybe you need to get some mud splattered on you around hour 15, but overall I feel pretty certain that dressing like Jack Bauer is an attainable goal for almost anyone.

I feel better now that I’ve said that.

Now do have a lovely Tuesday.

  1. You should see the amounts of butter I buy to make icing for the cakes I make. It might make you swoon.

  2. Are you sure you name isn’t Paula Deen? She and her butter!

It seems those of us reading your blog aren’t up to much coherent thought either. I just watched “Serendipity” for the 100th time. Why? Because it was on and I think John Cusack is a cutie. I’m supposed to run in the morning and I’m still awake…why do I always make the same lazy choices? Hmmm….good night…but first I have to check facebook for the zillionth time…

  3. Butter is my friend. Well, not really, but I wish it was because I love it. Have you ever made Barefoot Contessas burger recipe? She sticks butter in the center of her hamburger patty before grilling.

  4. I like random. I like funny. I feel refreshed after reading random and funny.

If you are like me, after watching DWTS you are a weird combination of inspired to diet/exercise and inspired to eat a bowl of ice cream and go to bed.

You forgot to mention how you are supposed to accessorize the Jack Bauer look with a cutting edge black backpack and some amazing black boots.

I refuse to even google Mad Men to see what it is. I am too addicted to TV as it is. I am up ’til all hours of the night on-line catching up on all the shows I watch.

    :)

  5. Did you watch DWTS Mon & see the lack of a shirt that Gilles wore? My, oh, my! He & Cheryl are my faves. My 12 year-old daughter always pulls for Cheryl no matter her partner. It’s fun to watch the show with her.

  6. I LOVE MadMen. But, I have no idea where I am in which season. When does it come on? I have my DVR set to record it, but I think I’m recording all of them, not just the first runs. So, I’m all confused.

Good luck with the cooking this weekend!

  7. Oh.my.word.

Still laughing about Jack Bauer. too funny.

    Jolanthe

  8. I like the random :-)

  9. Don’t forget about the infamous Jack Bauer Messenger Bag!

    LOL

  10. Don’t forget about the infamous Jack Bauer messenger bag! It’s a must-have to any terrorist-fighting, rough-talking, afraid-to-show-his-tough-side man:

(I swear I already posted a comment but can’t see it. Please delete the first one if two publish…) :)

  11. Don’t know if you’ve already bought your butter but Land O Lakes butter is on sale at the Kroger 2 for $4. My husband stopped by our Kroger yesterday on his way home and bought TWELVE boxes. My freezer is happy:)

  12. Mad Men=best.show.ever.

This past winter I was stuck on the runway in Newark, NJ for what seemed like an eternity.

Mad Men was an option on the little TV thingy. I’d heard all the hype and gave into it, besides I was stuck on a runway. What else was I going to do?

Three episodes on the runway later I was hooked.

I’m waiting for season 2 to come out on DVD–so looking forward to it!

  13. I will tell you what is funny, besides me picturing Tony wearing a head band with that outfit, that made me laugh! When I see butter, Land O Lakes real butter, I think of you and bacon and Steinmarts. lol

I am serious. Paula Deen needs to let you come and do a show with her. Ya’ll would be best friends.

  14. LOVE LOVE LOVE Mad Men!! I have watched the first two seasons. I won’t give anything away. Don’t you just love all the attention to detail?! It’s just eye candy for me.

  15. Haven’t seen MM, but heard it’s fab. Maybe a summer catch up for me.

I heart Gilles and Cheryl. And Tony…what a doll. Shirt, no shirt, leotard…it doesn’t matter. He’s hot and nice. Do they make ’em like that anymore? :)

  16. As for the butter… Yesterday I bought EIGHT lbs of butter. I was at the Walmarts, and butter was on sale for $1 a POUND!!! Now, it wasn’t Land O’Lakes butter, but for $1/lb you can’t be that picky. I thought of you as I filled my grocery cart with BUTTER, then again when I loaded it into my freezer when I got home. Thank you.

  17. I concur with your DWTS ratings although I keep hoping Ty Murray will find a groove and step up (gotta cheer for a cowboy -it is my heritage!) Regarding the butter – I am feeling conflicted as I only bought 4 pounds but did buy 3 pounds of cream cheese on sale! RE: Jack Bauer clothing – needs blood stain at some point – either his or someone else- makes no nevermind

  18. Don’t know if you the Today show this morning- the world’s oldest woman is turning 115 today, and she loves extra crispy bacon! So if the bacon is good for longevity, the butter can’t be that bad either!

  19. I do love random lists! I was celebrating, just so you know.

And it made me very happy to see “Butter (10)” on your grocery list. I’ve always wanted to buy a big ol’ hunk of butter at Sam’s, but never had a reason to.

Oh, and I want to watch Mad Men, but I’m going to have to catch up later. I have too many shows to watch right now!

  20. WOW! butter (10), huh? you’ve got ambition, and frankly, I’m a little intimidated. As for the dressing like Jack Bauer thing I was curious, so I googled. You’re linked on the first page! Amazing. Anyway, not that this was on your list of need-to-knows for the day, but I just thought I would share.

  21. I LOVE the picture of Tony in his leotard and you description of it. It made me laugh out loud!

  22. I was excited to buy 6 pounds of my favorite butter when it was on sale a few weeks ago. And I thought BooMama would be proud.

As for dressing like Jack Bauer my husband would say the most important thing is the weapon! You’ve got to carry the right weapon!

  23. Random lists are my favorite…I do them sometimes too. I am pulling for Melissa on DWTS…I just love her…or maybe I just hate Jason…I don’t know. Either way, I’m “Team Melissa.” Now I’m off to google Mad Men to see what I’ve been missing :). Happy Tuesday!

  24. Cheryl and Gilles are definitely the best, but I just LOVE Shawn Johnson and I want her to win so badly. She’s adorable!

  25. Your 10 lbs. of butter grocery list sounds eerily similar to the amount I purchased for Thanksgiving feast 2008. Only it was for 8 people. 3 of whom are small children. Every dish we prepared had AT LEAST one stick. Then there were the desserts…It was delightful!

  26. I love your blog! And I LOVE butter!!

  27. The “Dancing with the Stars” picture with the guy disturbs me to no end….

  28. Where’s the love for my Iowa girl Shawn? Surely she deserves a mention as a possible 2nd place finisher too!?! :) Just watched last night’s DWTS episode on the ‘net and thought Shawn and Mark both looked and danced beautifully!

  29. thank you for wishing us all a lovely tuesday. it has been. because oh my word, speaking of random…i just found something called bacon salt. do you know about it? their motto is something like “we want the whole world to taste as good as bacon” or some paraphrase of that. they have baconnaise(!) and even bacon flavored lip balm. now that tops pig candy for inventiveness in my book. sorry to be so verbose, but oh my word.

  30. Rutheee says:

Your lists are the More Cow Bell of SNL. Make me laugh every time.

  31. That definitely looks like Paula Deen’s grocery list… I love me some butter, too – but that woman takes it to new heights. My heart hurts when I even read her recipes!

  32. You are so stinkin’ funny. Just linked this post over for all who might want to have the Jack Bauer look!

  33. Yes, Mad Men is sheer genius. And I love the clothes. Pointy boobies and all.

Are you watching The Ladies #1 Detective Agency on HBO? I loved the books, and the series looks great.

Oh, and sister – Real Housewives of New Jersey – pinch me.

  34. Evidently we have the same taste in Reality TV. :-) I love Tony and Melissa and Gilles and Cheryl. I actually do not care for Cheryl, I don’t know why, I never have. But I think what she does with the dancers she works with is nothing short of phenomenal.

And the butter, my lands. I always buy butter like 6 pounds at a time and people look at me funny, but it takes a lot of butter to cook GOOD. :-)

  35. I LOVE MadMen! I won’t spoil anything but just wanted to share in your enthusiasm! It’s so great! Granted, I sometimes just want to slap Don Draper but the show is great. Can’t wait for season 3 to start! Enjoy catching up!

  36. You forgot that they have to bite a guy in the jugular, sniff some biological material, threaten to kill an innocent child for the sake of America and then tell the President of the United States that she can “ask around” to find out if she can trust him.

Oh, and don’t charge your cell phone either. He never does.

    Wha?

But, that’s our Jack. His cell probably charges when he puts it to his ear, that sweetie.
