Linky Interwebby Awesomeness 04.16.09

– Yesterday my friend Bubba sent me a text that said, “Have you seen the video of Susan Boyle?” My answer: “Who’s Susan Boyle?” Two seconds later my phone beeped with Bubba’s reply: “Google her.”

In the last twelve hours I’ve probably gotten six emails about Susan Boyle (thanks, sweet emailers!), and when I finally watched Susan Boyle’s video, I sat right here at the computer and cried.

– As most of y’all know, there were some tea parties yesterday. I read all sorts of stuff about the tea parties this morning, and I especially loved this post at This Ain’t New York and this post by Melanie. Regardless of your political leanings, you have to agree that it’s a mighty fine thing indeed that American people have the right to assemble and speak their dadgum minds.

By the way, yesterday afternoon I called Melanie approximately 15 times to get the latest play-by-play from P (let me tell y’all something about P: HE IS HYSTERICAL), and every single update brought me untold laughter and joy. Good grief I wish we were neighbors.

– Ever heard of The Noticer Project? Very, very cool. (via Annie)

This post by Jon? Made me CLAP MY HANDS.

  1. Yay, to the right to assemble. We were there & I looked for you. :)

Ahhh, that Susan Boyle video is priceless!

  2. If you love her….check out Ronana Tynan and read his story….he too has an awesome voice and history…Pam,
    South Bend

  3. Thank you so much for sharing the Susan Boyle video. I hadn’t seen it before. Beautiful!

  4. Becky Kelly says:

I just listened to Susan Boyle. I weep.

  5. Mercy, me. I’m with you on how lucky we are to live in a country where we can say what we think without facing persecution. But having lived in a country where there are no taxes, I’m mighty grateful for licensed doctors, paved roads, 911, and inspected meat, among the many other things for which our tax dollars pay. No tea for me!

  6. Thanks for the link. It’s hard to share something like that without being sappy. Then again, it’s hard to say the pledge and wave the flag without being sappy.

  7. I love love love the Susan Boyle story. I read in an article that her priest said that, although she sings at church, she never flaunted her voice or had any public recognition for her talent. That reminded me of the verses “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” (James 4:10) and “But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.” (Psalm 3:3) I love it when God lifts up the head of someone that may have previously hung it in shame. So tender.

If you haven’t already, you should also see Paul Pott’s audition for “Britain’s Got Talent” (the first season, I believe) – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DelJrP3P7tA. It has a similar story. And it did make me cry. Reminds me of my husband. People who meet him would never guess that he sings like an angel.

  8. I watched that video of Susan Boyle three times and I cried every time! So beautiful and stunning!

  9. Lisa P in California says:

Thank you for linking to that video of Susan Boyle. I hadn’t seen or heard anything about it, but I watched and cried and cheered her on from my desk. What an honor to hear her sing. Thank you.

  10. It is amazing how many people around the world have now seen Susan Boyle sing. I am sure it is not Britain that has just got this talent – there must be others out there too in other countries.

Do any other countries have their own version of this show? Would love to know.

  11. Susan Boyle’s story and angelic voice touched my heart. The words to this song are so poignant. I have also wept everytime I have heard her.

I agree, whatever one’s political leanings, the right to assemble is a blessing.

  12. I hadn’t heard of Susan Boyle until yesterday either, but didn’t take the time to follow any links. But today?

    MY. WORD.

My kids couldn’t figure out why I was crying so much over a song. The best part, outside of her outstanding talent, humility, and complete shock at getting three yeses, was Simon’s genuine smile.

  13. I think it is sad that those people who are so against taxes have no clue what some people, with mental illness, disabilities, chronic illness and no support have to endure just to have minimal, low quality services. I think it’s hard for some people to look outside of the life they have been blessed with.

  14. The youtube video of Susan Boyle is incredible. One of the comments about the video suggested googling “Daily Record Susan Boyle Cry me a River”. There you will be able to listen to another amazing performance from this woman.

  15. I checked out the video of Susan Boyle and thought “I’m not gonna be like Boo Mama…I WON’T cry!”

    Well, guess who showed me?

YOU TUBE!! That’s right! Okay, I didn’t have a full blown blubber-fest, but I did get a little *sniffle* misty.

How beautiful! And I love what Amanda (the judge) said about the audience being cynical. She was right. What a great lesson about how we tend to judge people based on their appearance or their wacky sense of self. And here we all are, wiping our eyes, completely blown away by a terrific song and a cheeky Brit who said she felt “bloody fantastic!”

As well she should. Well done, Susan Boyle!

  16. I have watched Susan Boyle at least 10 times and cry every time.

  17. Thanks for the awesome links! I love it when someone does the work for me, picking out all the good ones and wrapping them up for me in a post!
(Loved the Bible one…..I use Dumb Thumbs)
    Love,
    Snow

  18. Last time I looked she had over 15 million hits on the full length clip!

The clip gave me chill bumps like crazy…and some tears…sweet and inspirational. Reminded me of a Buick Regal…and Boomama! Spring afternoons full of sweet and inspirational talks….and LOTS O’ SINGING!

  19. I had watched the short Susan Boyle video from the Yahoo main page several times. It didn’t have all the comments but her voice blew me away. She was on Good Morning America on Wednesday. The story she told before was that she has never been kissed. She’s 47 and has been trained in voice, but never had the chance. Isn’t she just remarkable? Reminds me of the shivers I got when I first watched Paul Potts’ video on Britain’s Got Talent. I think it makes American Idol look sad in comparison. I wish we got that English show over here. They find some remarkable singers!!

    Hugs,
    Marie

  20. I agree, the video of Susan Boyle can certainly bring a tear to your eye. How AMAZING!!!!!!! :O)

  21. How have I never found SCL? Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  22. I don’t think I’ve mentioned how much I love Linky Interwebby Awesomeness. Susan Boyle really is incredible. I hope Piers throws himself at her.

And the posts from Melanie and This Ain’t New York… Hilarious. It took me a few minutes to figure out how Uncle Ted was, and then I felt stupid.

    :)

  23. I’ve watched that Susan Boyle video so many times I have it memorized. I even drove to my grandmother’s house and pulled it up so she could see it (because if I had e-mailed her the link she would’ve said, “What? I just click WHERE?”) I love the song, the vocals, but the story behind it is what gets me. She got her dream!

  24. I just watched the Susan Boyle video and it made me cry too! Partly because the song she was singing and how that was her dream and partly because how sad it was that people were laughing at her and were expecting it to be horrible. It’s just sad to think she has probably been judged that way her entire life and that is why she never got a break. But now she is getting hers and she seems like a deserving lady! Thanks for sharing!
