“Mama, if we were in the bad guy place, I would tell the bad guys that we were bad guys, too. I would not tell them that we were good guys because I would not want them to put us in their jail.”
“So, you would lie? Would that be a good decision?”
“Well, it would be a little bit of an emergency.”
“Mama? You know how some people in the world don’t have voices that the rest of the world can hear? Well, they can still tell the Lord that they need food or water or whatever, and then the Lord will tell other people, and then those people will help them.”
“Mama? I’m singing a song right now. I’m going to need a little bit of privacy.”
“Mama? If you had gotten to be 38 and you hadn’t had me, would you be sad?”
“Well, I wouldn’t have known you – but I can tell you that I wouldn’t have wanted to miss being your mama for anything in the world.”
“I wouldn’t have wanted to miss you, either, Mama.”
“Mama? Is bacon good for us?
“Well, I don’t know if I would say that it’s good for us.”
“But it IS tasty.”

Too sweet! Good for you to write down these adorable conversations. As cute as they are now, can you imagine how sweet it will be to remember them years from now?
I know I don’t really “know” you, but I feel like I do, and that is unmistakably your child! What a cutie-patootie! Soak it all in!
(My baby-child got married Saturday, so I’m all verklempt!)
Happy Birthday to the little man! And he seems like a little smartie. (especially about the bacon – it IS very tasty :)
It is a nicer world because your little man is in it – happy birthday handsome boy! BTW – Bacon IS good for you because it makes all that other stuff they SAY is good for you taste so much better (I offer as proof the beauty of a BLT and a spinach salad!)
Too cute and precious. I love little children and how they come up with solutions for eveything. Now why can’t some adults do the same. Have awesome birthday little man!!!

Hope your little one enjoys a wonderful day and hope his Mama enjoys his special day as well.
Blessings always,

Matthew 21:22
Y’all are so sweet. It’s actually not his birthday today – I just couldn’t think of a title. So I went with something simple. :-)
So cute! Oh, to be six. :)
Too cute! Forever memories.
I will tell you that my future husband and your little man would have a lot in common with bacon.
My future husband grew up on a hog farm and the saying in their house growing up was, “It’s not a meal without a little pork on the plate.”
Regardless–Alex is quite the wise man (and not just about the bacon). Does he just amaze you with what he says and does? : )
Ah. Out of the mouth of six year olds! This is why I will keep teaching first graders as long as possible. All this sweetness on a daily basis. Thanks for sharing these quotes…especially the bacon wisdom.
What an absolute DOLL BABY! He is soooo your child, too. :)
He is a GEM! A real keeper. In fact, he should count himself lucky if you EVER let him go. :)
Oh my goodness I want to squeeze that precious little six year old!!! He is adorable all the way around!
Beautiful boy.
“it would be a little bit of an emergency…”
priceless
Verklempt. Mmmm.
Happy Birthday to your boy–there’s no one like him in all the world. Bless him!
A wise little guy! I know you can’t imagine a day without him. Glad you both have each other.
OH! Not happy b-day. But happy day nonetheless!
He is so CUTE!! I especially love it when I can see those amazing blue eyes!
Happy Birthday big guy!
April
Aw, this is SO sweet. And I can’t argue with his thoughts on bacon.
Send him in for a VISA commercial…these are priceless!
Happy Birthday to him!
What a sweet post this is… “I wouldn’t have wanted to miss you either, Mama”… BRING ON THE TEARS!
I hope I’m as good of a mom as you are!
Oh my sweet goodness.
Well, I guess that really about sums it up: sweet goodness!
Adorable! I am glad that even 6 year olds are so sweet. I have twin two year old boys and I want to freeze this age but when I hear posts like this I feel hopeful :)
What a sweet, sweet post. I’m so glad I read that today.
Thank you for sharing his sweet words with us! He’s hilarious, just like his mama. And “it would be a little bit of an emergency” was priceless!
I love how his mind thinks. Happy Birthday to your little man. It’s been so fun reading about him on your blog for the past 2 years.
He will be needing his own blog soon, I’m thinkin’.
Happy Birthday, big boy!
You are VERY lucky to have each other :)
CLASSIC! Wonderful words of wisdom :)
i love all the little questions and sayings they come up with!
Aw. My littlest guy is 6 now too. I would like to freeze him at this age. I bought a book to write down the hilarious/cute/touching things he says because I know from experience, you just don’t remember them as you think you will. Happy Birthday to him!
The other day my Jake told me that when he grows up he’s still going to live with me, but he’s going to buy a baby bunny since he’ll be an adult. He added, “And when that baby bunny grows into an adult, I’m going to sell it.” I didn’t want to ask what he’ll do with me when I’m no longer useful. LOL. I was happy to hear he always wants to live with me.
LOVE him!! What a treasure!!
Happy Birthday!
Enjoy him, he’s a hoot, just like his Mama!
What great snippets of your little one!
My hubby would fit right in at your house – he thinks ‘pig’ should be it’s own food group!
Happy Birthday to your sweet boy! He is so darn cute!
That child is YOU made over! But as a boy. And he’s just wonderful! Oh, to be his first grade teacher…!
That just made my heart melt!!!
oh how I love that child.
Absolutely precious!
Love it- my older son turns six in three weeks…
Quote #2 needs to be sent to every church in America.
Happy birthday to your sweet boy!
what a sweet little fella. Happy Birthday to him :)
Awww…so sweet. Makes a heart melt. Happy Birthday young one. :)
I cannot believe he is 6! I swear I started reading your blog when he was 4 years old. I feel like I have watched him grow up (in a wierd, stalker-blogger kind of way :) I swear I cannot believe how old he is! I have loved reading your blog forever!
Such a sweet little boy! I can only hope that my Emily will be so sweet when she is older. You are so blessed.
That is oh so precious! I know you both are so blessed!
My word I just want to squeeze him and then pinch his cheeks. I think I officially ready to be a grandmother…. oh my word!!!!!!!
He is just absolutely adorable! I just love that age — so serious and yet so very funny!
Great conversations! He is such a sweet boy.
Love it….. so precious!!!! :)
Oh my, that last one? He is SO your son. You done raised him right!
And I thought three and one are the best ages ever… if this is what we have to look forward to, I can hardly wait to get there. :)
He is just the cutest thing and I definitely see a little bit of Sophie in that face! :)
Sophie, If he doesn’t have your heart, who would? And apparently, according to the bacon remark, he’s a chip off the ole block!!!
Hug him as much as possible as long as you can without cutting off his breathing……six doesn’t last nearly long enough!!!!
Oh, he has gotten so big!! What a sweetheart. Between his quotes & the Sissie (sp?)/Martha stories, you will have a best seller one day…at least in all the Southern states ;)!!
Love it!!! :)
so tasty!
So sweet! This was the hi-light of my day!
Happy birthday, beautiful boy! May your life be ever-blessed….
I definitely think he’s a keeper! :) What a handsome little guy.
Oh, how I wish you lived down the street. Shep and Alex would be such buds. I see all the 6 year old buzzwords: bad guys, jail, privacy.
Just now he told me, “Momma, I wish you were an octopus.” “Why?” I asked. “So you could hug all of us at the same time.”
Followed up by really REALLY bad knock knock jokes. I mean, really bad.
Sweet innocence!
Does your heart melt every single day?
Such preciousness it makes my heart hurt just a little. Happy Birthday, A!!!
Six.
Wow.
It’s been 4 years, and don’t they just seem to get sweeter with each day?
happy birthday to that sweet boy! he is just a precious little thing!
KISS HIS SWEET LITTLE FACE!!!!
What a sweetboy!
Watch out BooMama! You’ll blink and he’ll be looking down at you at his graduation FROM HIGH SCHOOL!
It just happened to me. :)
Yes, I’m ok…..it’s been my honor to be his mama!
Oh good lord that kid is scrumptious. What a sweetie pie.
Can’t you just eat him up with a spoon?? BTW, I’m still on your favorite brands post…have you tried Turkey Bacon? It’s amazingly good. My husband, the food snob, even likes it. Except when I made the fatal error of buying Oscar Mayer Bacon when it was on sale for $2.99 a pound. Now he refuses to eat any other kind. And we both know that $2.99 was a fluke never to be repeated!
I’m just sure I’ve already sent you this, but just in case, if I didn’t:
When I was One,
I had just begun.
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three,
I was hardly Me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive.
But now I am Six, I’m as clever as clever.
So I think I’ll be six now for ever and ever.
— AA Milne
(So true. I think six is my very, very favorite.)
He’s a doll! My son is already counting down the days till he turns 6 and he’s not even quiet 5 1/2 yet!!
These are great – it’s true, kids say the darnedest things. I especially enjoy the song comment. I used to sing anywhere to the point where my parents forced me to my room to finish my songs. THEY needed me to have privacy!
He is so uber sweet. I want to eat him up !!!!
Oh, dear. i do believe i’m in love with your kiddo!
He’s right about one thing…it sure IS tasty! He is a hoot!! Love it!
