Our internet and cable have been out for the last 48 hours. We don’t really know why, but apparently when we unplugged our router Saturday afternoon to move it three feet across the room and then plugged it in again, the router decided it didn’t like us anymore and therefore was uninterested in providing access to the web and the email and the HGTV and the Bravo.
We’ve been totally fine except for the times when we’ve held hands and bowed our heads and cried.
Anyway, this morning I went to the Starbucks and wrote my post for AllAccess, but since it took a sweet forever to upload video and, you know, make some sentences, I neglected updating here in the interest of providing lunch for my family. We finally got service again around 4 this afternoon. And I’m telling you all of this knowing full well that nobody really gives a rip, but two days of no interweb means that I now get to share even more meaningless information than normal.
It’s in the bloggy bylaws, y’all.
So now I’m going to fix supper (and by “fix,” I mean, “chop some things”) and hang out with my people and sit on the couch and flip back and forth between HGTV and Food Network. Why, you wonder? BECAUSE I CAN.
Hope y’all are having a great Monday!

So I’ve been “blogstalking” you for a while now and I heart your blog! And I don’t know what I would do without two full days of no House Hunters or Design on a Dime! Congrats on getting back online!
Oh, Sophie… I love the idea of sharing a fun girly weekend with you, but you would hate my house. We gave both tvs away and being on the net is not my first activity of choice. I’d rather spend time with my peeps and eat lots of good, yummy food.
Hey, we still could be best buds… we’d just do the girls’ weekend at YOUR house! (It’s cuter than mine anyway. One of the drawbacks of not having tv is that your house looks nothing like a cute house should. Fortunately, The Girl has been at grandma’s house all summer and she says that she’s coming home with some very good ideas for us… after we move of course.)
Happy tving and chopping!
First, let me just admit that I don’t know if I have ever left a comment over here at your wonderful blog. I hope I have, I am not the lurking (I strongly dislike that word) type, but sometimes it’s all I can do to get a post read before I get caught up in family fun. And second, I am so glad your horrific ordeal of no cable AND no internet is over. I got a little tense just thinking of such a thing happening at our house!
We lost power last week for 20 whole minutes and I think I almost started twitching wondering how long I’d have to be without cable and internet. :) I think I’m nuts.
Gasp….that is awful! Praying that it hasn’t scarred you too badly. It would devastate me :)
Enjoy your night…..soaking in all that luminous, artificial light as it reflects off your screen!
I have also been switching back and forth between HGTV and Food Network. Between the Tyler Florence Chefography and House Hunters (and Property Virgins!), it makes for an Evening O’ Fun! Trying to guess which house they will choose is a crazy-good time, I’m tellin’ ya!
I understand and I feel for you. Its second only to losing A/C, because that is essential to life!
in an attempt at frugality…we cancelled cable 2 years ago. any mention of the food network or hgtv makes me wistful. oh, how i love alton brown.
and do you know how hard it is to have 3 kids (6 and under) with only PBSKids? we might as well have no electricity, it’s that sad.
To Anne in the comment above–you are my HERO! I would happily cancel satellite and the horror that is Cartoon Network if I could, but then I’d be divorced and probably trying to live out of a 6 year old Honda Odyssey. There’s this thing called SEC football, and it owns my husband. Anyway… your kids are SO MUCH better off without cable/satellite (and you know that, don’t you?). You are a lucky girl….
I feel your pretend-terrible pain. Earlier this summer, lightning zapped our garage door motor and the wireless for the house. We were without cable, email and Internet for about a day, and I was losing my mind. Glad everything got fixed!
Oooh, that is not even pretend-terrible; it’s for real! :) I am lost without the internet and if that were combined with no TV….well, I just don’t like to think about it.
So…how many times did you think “The cable is out…hmmm…I’ll just go check my email.” ??
Remind me to share about the time we moved our t.v. into our unfinished basement so we wouldn’t watch it anymore. Yes, we ended up sitting on boxes with cold concrete under our feet watching “The Bachelor”. Didn’t last long…
YOU make me laugh. :)
I’m guessing you have a Linksys router and after spending 3 hours trying to explain to someone with only the basically rudimentary english language skills you were ready to smash it to bits with a sledge hammer, and crawl through the telephone line to Indonesia and repeat same with technician. Or maybe I’m projecting my own (multiple) experience just a bit.
I myself, could not have made it without TLC and the Duggars. I’m a little stalkerish and keep cable primarily for them and the 845 cartoons we keep on standby for the kiddos.
Completely different note- GREAT to meet you at She Speaks (we ate lunch together on Saturday). AND… I was helping with Compassion at the Travis Cottrell concert last night in Huntsville and got to hang out with him for about 5 glorious seconds afterwards. And he asked where you were… If you were there, wasn’t it awesome?? Absolutely amazing!
xoxo,
Hillary
Welcome back from the “dark side” of no internet access! – I know that feeling.
Our holiday cottage has not internet, and I used to feel so “cut off” – but had an excuse to go down the road to the local old inn, with roaring fire and cozy sofas to blog (I know, tough life).
However our lovely lovely neighbour now shares her broadband with us, won’t let us pay. Great to be connected, but I do sometimes miss the excuse to go to the inn (child-free!).
I just love it! Oh, how I can relate to the electronics failing at the most inconvenient time which is most cases is anytime. It NEVER fails that when my dear beloved hubby leaves town, something goes wrong with the computer or the network. I have decided that the computers are all female and love my husband as much as I do. When he leaves, they take it out on me because they all know I know NOTHING about computers. There are been times I have to wait weeks before the use of a computer. One would think I could learn a thing or two about these “other women” in our house. At least I have my HGTV!
I feel your pain. Last September when Ike came through, we lost power for 15 days and I’m STILL trying to get over that! No phone service either. Not fun.
All I can say is that I for one am so, so glad you are back. You are one of God’s many blessings and I just love, love, love your blog. And since I can usually relate to all of the “meaningless information” and smile along with you, I’m so thankful that you follow the bylaws :)
It was probably a well needed break, huh?? But you shed your tears and said some prayers, so I’m thinking not, ha! But glad you’re back up and running!!
It really is sad that we’re so addicted to this technology, isn’t it? Toward the end of the school year my daughter had an assignment to go without tv, internet, electronics in general, for a week. We had fun watching her discomfort. lol Then a couple weeks later we moved and had no cable, internet or phone and she thought it was totally unjust to have to go through that all again! lol
Glad you’re back online, though!
So does that mean you did not get to watch Design Star on Sunday night? Bless your time!! I am so glad that you are back with the rest of us, perched on that couch (or in my case, up in the bed) watching HGTV and Food Network. And if I could not see The Closer on Monday nights, I would be distraught!!!
Ooooo, I am so jealous. At least you have the problem of the cable being out. My hubby decided we did not need cable and the expense, so I am going through HGTV-detox. I LOVE HGTV! L-O-V-E. Watch some Curb Appeal for me.
Here, this will make you feel better. I can’t even figure out how to set up our router! So, in the spare bedroom our computer shall remain! It’s probably better that way.
Even better, I didn’t actually do the chopping of the food for dinner, I took pictures of my man chopping and cooking! Of course, it was all in the interest of the interweb! Although, it might take a couple of weeks to get that recipe online.
How happy were you on a scale of 1-10 that Melissa won Next Food Network Star?
I want to be her friend.
I’m a big fan of the flipping back and forth between HGTV and Food Network. Big Fan. Also a big fan of your blog. I’ve been living in a hotel for 5 months (only 1 month to go!) and lame hotel cable does not include either of those channels and the lame hotel wireless conncection is PAINFULLY slow. It completely bums me out. I can feel your pain!
I cried when I read this… and then I wondered ‘can you still watch DVR recorded shows when the DirectTV is out?’ And I don’t know and I don’t want to find out.
The whole idea of 48 hrs w/out reality TV makes me shake a little bit.
Glad you’re back and hope you recover quickly. This type of trauma would require me to get some kind of intervention — probably chocolate covered.
I totally understand the “crisis” of no cable or internet! This happened to us last week. There is a new house going up next door and they cut our cable line while digging. It turns out the cable guys had hooked up and buried our cable line in the wrong spot. Oh the horrors!!!
I really enjoy your blog!
I’m sending you a picture Chris and I took, while driving home from Rocky Mountain National Park on Sunday…Chris said that’s for BooMama. Tell her it’s my favorite outlet store. So for your joyful pleasure… :0)
I “fixed” dinner by heating up a rotisserie chicken, some frozen corn, and baking some potatoes. Worked for us!
HA HA HA HA HA!
Hubs and I were sitting around in the living room last night, trying to find a reason to live now that “So You Think You Can Dance” is done. (Not that it would have been on last night, mind you.) And so we ended up watching “Dating in the Dark,” and for a minute I looked over at him lounging on the recliner and thought, “Man. We’ve uh-RIVED.” Don’t mess with our bliss, people.
You haven’t lost your funny.
That’s really weird because our router did the same thing at the same time as yours. We unplugged it for some reason or another and it gave us the silent treatment for days. Must be a conspiracy.
