I’ve noticed over the last couple of weeks that a certain six year-old has really developed a fondness for pockets.
Not just because he likes to put rocks and Star Wars action figures and fake money in them.
But because these days he likes to put his hands in his pockets. A lot.
Sometimes when he has his hands in his pockets he likes to rock back and forth on his heels a little bit.

Sometimes he likes to walk down the hall at a leisurely pace – no rush, no hurry, no worries.

Sometimes he just likes to stand.

And sometimes he likes to survey his surroundings.

But for whatever the reason, those long, skinny arms that seemed like they were all over the place when he was three, four, five – well, they’re more subdued. Instead of constantly being a threat to any lamp, wall hanging or breakable object within a ten foot radius, his arms sometimes stay by his side for five whole minutes in a row.
Because his hands are in his pockets.
And he looks like such a little man.

Those little changes make such a big difference. I don’t know how far into the seventh year your son is, but mine is a little over halfway through it…and he is so different than at the beginning of the year. It’s amazing what happens in a short period of time-it makes you realize how fast it really is. Your pictures are so sweet.
and a handsome little man! That grin is too cute =)
and congrats on being blogher’s blog of the week!
Oh Sophie – in these pictures – he doesn’t look like that cute little boy anymore – he looks like a HANDSOME BIG boy!!! He looks so much older and grown up!!! I know you can’t believe it!
Just make sure he takes them out when he runs. We had a lover of pockets in our house – and he couldn’t get his hands out of his pockets fast enough to break his fall one time. (Not meant to imply that your sweet boy is clumsy at all; just a warning.) Have a great weekend!
He is to cute! Our youngest puts his shorts on backwards so he can have the pockets in the front. Required holding spots for snacks, toys, whatever we find outside:)
So sweet. Could it be that BooDaddy has a similar way of putting his hands in his pockets? :)
He is just precious BooMama. My two year old likes to do the same thing with his pockets. It makes him look so much older too.
He’s so cute! His smile is infectious :)
My husband likes to trick our girls and their friends. “You dropped your pocket.” They still look.
shoot! – now you have totally made me cry
b/c alex reminds me so much of my cole and knowing that your guy is growing up means mine is too and that is something I do not want to admit *sigh*
great! now I am crying again – this is going to be a tough day I can tell already :)
Much love
Kim
What a handsome little man looking all grown up. Can we freeze time? My little guy started ball and I can’t get over how that helmet flops all over the place as he tries to run to first base.
I’m laughing because our boys have those exact same shirts. (Sigh.) Once our five Star Wars/Lego Batman shirts get washed, they start complaining that they “have no clothes,” even though they have about 30 other shirts from which to choose.
He is SUCH a cutie! My son also had a fondness for pockets at that age. In fact, he wore shorts with pockets to play church basketball and kept thrusting his hands into the pockets at inopportune times. (He really was way too laid back for church basketball!) Any time a foul was called he had his hands in his pockets and practically whistled while looking off into space. “Who, me? I’ve got my hands in my pockets. I didn’t foul anyone!”
OK. I am going out on a limb. And I am only suggesting this because I, too, have a little boy, albeit, he is only four.
However, a boy is a boy is a boy. Because of this, I HAVE to ask. Is there, by any chance, a hole in one of his pockets?
Jus’ sayin.
That DOES look so grown up!
Tears a momma’s heart UP when we see them make these shifts into manhood. ;)
What a cute post! How funny that all of a sudden he’s become “Pocketman”… you should write a comic book about him ;-)
Makes my heart melt!
Very sweet!
I love the hands in the pockets look. It melts my heart when my little boy does it and I just want to hug him to death.
My Ashlee (who is our 3 year old DRAMA queen) discovered her love for pockets a while back. In fact, she even demanded that any outfit she wore had pockets. She would not DARE wear just some plain old shorts, sans pockets.
Her favorite? A polo-esque dress with pockets. For a prissy little drama queen, it was the best of both worlds. A “preddy dwess with potkets.”
Priceless.
~sigh~
I’m right there with ya, girl.
Why does it all have to go so fast? :(
He’s growing up mama! But the pictures are oh so precious!
Very cute.
One more thing – my “baby girl” also loves pockets. In fact, when she glided down the aisle toward her groom this June, her WEDDING DRESS had pockets in it!
Oh my word, I am now seriously looking forward to the “pocket” years.
Well I say that, and then I’ll be all “sob, sob, where’s my baby?”
I’m just sitting here wondering how on earth that child got to be SIX. Seriously?? Then I remember that when I bloggity-met you, I was childless and you had a toddler, and now I have an almost-four-year-old of my own. And THEN, I feel like an old granny in blog years.
The boy….with the pockets….CUTE!
and can I just tell ya how much I love your ceramic floor!
LOVE
IT!
Jill :)
Too cute! I love (and am saddened by) those little things that you noice that show you your baby isn’t so much a baby anymore. That new step that takes them closer to the next step I guess.
Can I p.s. a comment? If so…
P.S. Thanks so much for posting about Christy Nockels new album. I have been listening to the song “life light up” so much! To the point it was my song posting this week on my blog! Tank ya ma’am!
Very sweet! That’s something you’ll remember for years to come.
I can’t believe how big your little man is getting! But then again, I guess mine is growing up just as fast!
{{{HUGS}}}
Yes, yes he does look like a little man.
And your floors–I LOVE your floors. ;)
As fast as they are growing up, it’s special to see hints of the man they will be someday. It’s like a little peek into the future.
Wow. Time has flown. Next week….graduation. Or close to it.
The first picture looks like he’s actually happy to be at school! Why couldn’t I have been like that?
Great post!
That’s adorable. It gives me hope that my house won’t always be in some state of destruction.
Thank you, Jesus. There is hope.
Amen.
