Linky Interwebby Awesomeness 01.09.10

– I just drew for a winner in the L’Bel Paris $500 giveaway, and you can find out who won by clicking over here.

– Here’s another neat giveaway: you can win Margaret Feinberg’s Scouting the Divine: Searching for God in Wine, Wool and Wild Honey Bible study leader kit (a member book, DVD with video clips, and a CD-Rom with leader helps, music, audio files, and more). You can enter the giveaway over at AllAccess.

– About a year and a half ago I realized that Roan, a childhood ballet buddy / fellow MSU grad, has a blog, and I get the biggest kick out of reading it. She homeschools her five kids, and they are avid – AVID – runners. Anyway, Roan wrote a post about Thursday’s “Mississippi Blizzard,” and it made me smile. Such a sweet family.

– I got several emails yesterday that said, “COULD YOU PLEASE TELL BIG MAMA THAT HER BLOG ISN’T WORKING?” Made me laugh. Anyway, Melanie can fill you in on all the details (or not), but just know that everything is going to be fixed very soon. And y’all should’ve heard Melanie and me on the phone last night trying to make sense of the techy problems – it was like a couple of second graders talking about thermodynamics.

Baked Sweet Onion Dip? Yes, please and thank you.

– I cheered for ‘Bama in the National Championship game, but I was so impressed – once again – with Colt McCoy, the Texas quarterback who was injured on the fifth play of the game. If you haven’t seen his post-game interview, it is well worth your time.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

  1. Had to leave a comment ’cause I just couldn’t stand to see “NO Comments Yet!” anymore! :) Always love your interwebby awesomeness!

  2. Just wanted to say thanks for mentioning “my boy” Colt. He has been such a wonderful leader to young people here in Texas. Glad he’s getting the attention he so very much deserves. And even though we lost to the Crimson Tide on the football field, the real winners (in my mind) were the many fans/grads of UT for having been blessed with Colt (and now Garrett Gilbert and the rest of the team). Love your blog and HOOK ‘EM HORNS!
    Amy in Austin, Texas
    UT Austin graduate

  3. Funny enough, I thought of you first too when Melanie’s blog didn’t come up. Didn’t you know that (at least in our minds) that you are joined at the hip?

    Thanks for filling us in!

BTW, the pic of your son with his new football jersey – cutest picture EVER!

  4. Hey Girl!
Thanks for the shout out! I feel almost….famous!!
    Hope yall are staying warm!
    Roan

  5. Sophie, I am so glad someone asked you about Big Mama because I thought it was just me doing something wrong. Matter of fact I just asked Jerry if he would come see what the matter was.

  6. thanks for the shout out for Colt….He is the kind of young man any Moma would be proud of!!

  7. Thanks for giving a shout out to Colt…love him!

    Hook ‘Em.

  8. Already saw the interview…it makes me cry the momma cry, so I’ll not watch it again.

  9. Colt is a class act. I was sorry to see him go down. It would have made it a better game.

  10. Thanks for the link to Colt, from deep in the heart of Texas (as in Austin: home of UT). Classy guy.

  11. S-
B had such a blast on y’all’s looong walk. She has a ball and I feel like such a bum for being such a hermit and not joining you. I know you must think I only come out of the house to go to work and the occasional trip to Walmart! I have come to the realization that I need to make my face known a little more – B really does have a mama. ;-) I’ve washed A’s pants and will return as soon as I find them in the pile of clean laundry.

  12. Have you seen The Blind Side yet, Sophie?

If not, please go see it as soon as the temps get above driving on black ice.
    It is so worth it.
    I can’t help it, I’m a Baltimore Ravens/Michael Oher fan now.

  13. Oh, Colt, you sweet sweet boy! We’re so glad to call you our’s!!

  14. As Gator fans, we pulled for the SEC and Bama in the NC too, but once Colt went down, it was tough to not root for Texas and Gilbert – but that kid really pulled it together quick, and very nearly won the game! I was proud for him.
I got really irate at that woman reporter for asking Colt that insensitive question after the game, but his answer just turned me into a bawling little kid. I figure it wasn’t the kind of answer she was expecting. Colt is one class act!

  15. I saw the interview live and was SO IMPRESSED. Don’t know when I’ve seen anyone testify in such an unassuming manner. On top of that, he congratulated ‘bama not once, but twice. What a fine young man he must be.

  16. Big’s blog: Because there is nothing worse that seeing that everything in sale and you can’t get to the post! And I believe it is only fair that all vendors mentioned in the post be notified and agree to maintain sale prices until the blog is back from vacation!

  17. 1. I headed over here to see if you were talking about Big Mama’s tech problems. My first thought was that you’d think I was an idiot for asking you abour HER blog. Glad someone asked before me.

    2. I did not watch the BCS Bowl game, but I have heard lots of stuff about Colt’s interview. Thank you for posting it. He is a son (and teammate) to be proud of.

    3. I love your blog. Just sayin’ =)

  18. Yes, I’m a UT grad (2001), so I’m a little biased. But Colt McCoy is indeed a class act. I am (as always) very proud to be a Texas grad right now, even though our team didn’t win. Hook ‘Em!

  19. How bout them Dawgs?? Pulled it out yesterday afternoon at the “Sad-Pad” in Oxford, beating Ole Miss in roundball!! As Jack says, ” Wrap it up in Maroon and White”. Love reading you, you are a blessing to me!!

  20. Thanks for the note about Colt McCoy- a classy young man. Bama won the game and did it well – congrats to them.
Been lovin’ your posts lately – esp. the one about the sliders bar – anybody who can combine bacon and beef is a woman I admire – I was trying to figure a good way to use some of the beautiful ham from NYD and some applewood smoked bacon – is that too much – bacon AND ham???

  21. Oh, Boomama! I so agree with your comment about Colt McCoy! We had a lot of snow last week and, being an elementary teacher, I had last Thursday and Friday off. So, I stayed up Thursday night to watch the Texas/Alabama game. WOW! I started out cheering for the Crimson Tide (did I make the correct reference here?) but felt so stressed for Garrett Gilbert, I ended up yelling for both teams!! Gee whiz! That young man stepped right up to the challenge!

When they interviewed Colt after the game, his comments brought me to tears. When he said that he was “standing on the Rock”, I shouted out loud! My goodness!

I was so glad that I stayed up and watched all of the game and the events afterward. Both teams (players, coaches, etc.) represented their schools wonderfully.

  22. So funny that you typed about Big Mama’s blog! I read both or your blogs and I never thought to send a message to your about her “broken link”. I kept thinking it was my computer! I’m so happy to hear that she hasn’t disappeared and that my computer is fine.

And I think this might be my first time to post on your blog…. Love your blog!

  23. thanks for the update re: BigMama! : )

  24. I’m so glad to hear that Big Mama is ok. And yes, I do think of the two of you as sister web sites!

  25. 6:30 PM Monday
    Still no big mama…..
    God Bless, Pam, South Bend

  26. Marcy Thompson says:

    Boo~
Have you seen this yet?? It will make you love Colt McCoy even more!

If the link doesn’t work, just Google “I am second – Colt McCoy”.

  27. That dip looks gooood. Unfortunately, I don’t like mayo, so I think I may sub in alfredo sauce. That’s what I use to make my spinach-artichoke dip, and woo, is it tasty.
