Every once in awhile I’ll have a week that looks like it’s going to be wide open – footloose and fancy free, if you will – and then the week starts and within a few hours I realize OH NO, WEEK CHOCK FULL, NEED TO MAKE TO-DO LIST FOR ALL REQUIRED TO-DO LISTS.
So basically what I’m saying is that this week is shaping up to be a little cuckoo. But that’s okay. This cuckoo shall pass.
And now, a few links of note:
– Our pastor, David Platt, has a book coming out today, and I am not kidding one bit when I tell you that the primary message in his book could very well turn your whole life upside down. The book is called Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream. It will make you uncomfortable, and it will leave you convicted. Trust me on that.
– Pete Wilson’s book, Plan B, also hits stores today. It’s all about how God does His best, most life-changing work in seemingly hopeless situations. I think it’s so interesting that Pete’s book release coincides with a time when many members of the church that Pete pastors – Cross Point Church in Nashville – are facing some unimaginable circumstances.
– My friend Heather is super-creative, and I think this birthday party idea is so clever and fun. Even if it is outside in All The Nature.
– I love it when the people on SNL start to giggle during a skit, mainly because most of the time the inappropriate laughing is funnier than the skit itself (Debbie Downer and Matt Foley are the exceptions, of course). Anyway, I was ever-so-delighted to see a list (with video) of SNL’s Top Ten Cast Member Crack-Ups. (via Throwing Things)
– No Idol post from me tonight – I’ll be watching but not re-capping. It’s been a hectic couple of days around here, and I am craving a little family time and also some sleep. Sometimes it’s good to have relaxation goals.
Hope y’all have a good night!

Oh my word! I haven’t watched the SNL video yet, but just looking at the list itself is making me laugh. Thanks for sharing it! :)
I’ll have to check our your pastor’s new book. I already have Plan B on my Amazon list and MUST get it soon! Have a fun night and enjoy some down time!
SHUT.THE.DOOR.
You go to Brook Hills Church? I AM SO JEALOUS.
My hubs and I LOVE David Platt. In fact, one of his sermon series from 2007 very much changed our walks with the Lord.
And, we are secretly green w/ envy every time y’all have Secret Church b/c we live too far away to come. Back at Christmas, we almost drove 4 hours out of our way (after already traveling 13 hours by car to your city to go to a Sunday service. Then we realized we had 5 kids and I was grossly pregnant and that it was probably a recipe for D.I.S.A.S.T.E.R.
All that to say, Yay for you that you have David as a Pastor. I think that’s amazing. And I can say that b/c our Pastor is pretty exceptional himself.
PS: My husband will probably pee his pants when I tell him DP has a book out.
I bought David’s book today. We worked together at NOBTS for a little while, and I think the world of him and his sweet wife. I’m a little nervous about reading it, but it’s time for some radical in my life. Hope you enjoy the rest!
No re-cap? Now where am I supposed to link my re-cap?
Oh well, a bloggy break is good, and you can just enjoy the show.
I am laughing so hard at the SNL link, I am weeping.
As for American Idol, it was all about Lee tonight (but Crystal is still gonna win!)
I am ordering Radical tonight!! Our church has recently been discussing these very same things. I am reading Plan B for a review – it is wonderful too!! Thanks!
I’m about to start Radical! It’s right by my bed.
Those sound like two books this sister needs to read. Can I hear an Amen?
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
I had no idea your pastor was David Platt!
He is an incredible man of God and I’m so inspired by him! What a great blessing it must be to belong in his flock!
I’ve heard some buzzing about his book already….and I’m getting it!
Love the SNL skits too! I usually miss it on Saturday night (cause I’m an old geezer)! But see them later on hulu!
I don’t blame you for not recapping. It almost wasn’t worth it anyway. I’m losing my fervor for the Idol this year.
Looking forward to reading Radical!
Like everyone else, I had no idea David Platt was your pastor. I admire him greatly. I’m almost done with Radical, and could immediately start it over again. It’s THAT good. I’ve nearly colored each page yellow with highlighting.
My husband and I are reading “Radical” right now and it is rocking our world. I had no idea David Platt was your pastor! Totally cool.
I had no idea you go to David’s church! We grew up together at Briarlake Baptist in Decatur. I say grew up together, but I’m a few years older. His Mom was the organist. A great family.
Ok, I haven’t clicked the link to the SNL thing yet, but PLEASE tell me that the one from waaaaaay back with Rosie O’Donnell, Penny Marshall and Whitney Houston is on there? It’s a Mary Catherine one and it is H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!!
David’s book sounds very intriguing. I’m so going to check that out.
ohhhh…it’s my absolute favorite when they start laughing on SNL!!!
Ok, all this time and I had NO CLUE you were at David’s church! Awesome. We met him this past August when he came to lead our Western Europe M’s for a week long retreat. I had never heard of him. Good gracious me, when he started quoting the book of Romans he got my attention! I can’t wait to get this book! But I have a feeling it’s going to convict, just like everything else he says! God has truly gifted this sweet family. His wife and boys were with us all week too and they are just precious! Our homegroup in Wales (college students) watched some podcasts from various things and they were hooked.
Did you see the videos week before last in the services? My family was in them!
I’m about 1/2 way through David’s book and let me tell you, it is rocking my world. God has been doing number on my heart in some areas lately and this book is just nailing it all down for me.
The title of David’s book intrigues me. Definitely putting that on my summer reading list. Thanks for sharing it…since you know, I get all my knews from the …Mamas and wouldn’t have heard of it another way. Who has time for news when there are so many blogs to read!! =)
Happy Mother’s Day to you…you are a beautiful mother…and a blessing to me.
i have read you for a long time, but somehow i missed the fact that David Platt was YOUR pastor! I just finished his book for a review for my little blog…..I feel somehow more connected to you! It is an inspiring book.
