I was never really a fan of breakfast when I was growing up. I would usually eat whatever my mama fixed so as not to rock the early morning boat, but it was mostly something I tolerated, not enjoyed. And when I got to college, breakfast became something that I just flat-out ignored. I wasn’t even remotely interested in it.
I would not recommend this practice, by the way. My breakfast-less philosophy was right up there with my maybe-if-I-only-eat-popcorn-I’ll-lose-10-pounds philosophy. That is to say: worthless.
Youth is wasted on the young, my friends.
But when I was in my mid-20s, a switch flipped, and suddenly breakfast became my very favorite meal of the day. I don’t have any idea what caused this seismic shift – it certainly wasn’t because I loved to wake up early, because truth be told I would sleep until the crack of noon whenever I could – but I started to see breakfast as a meal that was chock-full of possibilities. I also started to recognize that I was way more productive – not to mention cheerful – when I took the time to fix myself a good breakfast. It’s a habit that’s stuck with me through the years.
Since I know firsthand the difference between a day that begins with a great breakfast and one that doesn’t, I’ve tried to be very intentional about making sure our little guy gets a good start to his day – every day. I really like to fix a hot breakfast, but time doesn’t always cooperate (or maybe the real problem is that I don’t always cooperate with time). My husband leaves the house much earlier than my little boy and I do (most mornings), so it’s usually just the two of us at the breakfast table. It’s one of my favorite times of the day. We both love cheese grits (not the instant kind), so that’s always a big hit, and we love to talk about how tasty our grits are while we’re eating. Perhaps we have some grits-related issues.
I’m a die-hard oatmeal person in the fall and winter, but since my child does not share my oatmeal-related enthusiasm, I usually sacrifice the oatmeal for the convenience of making something we’ll both eat (I don’t know if I mentioned it, but we’re fans of cheese grits). But we like other stuff, too: cheese toast, peanut butter toast with a banana, cinnamon-sugar toast or bacon and eggs. Last spring I got on a kick of making breakfast sandwiches with English muffins, eggs and bacon, and that’s probably going to be our go-to breakfast when we crank up our back-to-school routine in a couple of weeks. Some mornings we eat cereal, and it never ceases to fascinate me that my child likes his milk on the side. To me this practice is sort of like making chocolate chip cookies with the chocolate chips on the side, but apparently dry cereal is loaded with all sorts of tasty nuances that I have yet to experience. I’ll just take his word for it.
More than anything, it’s important to me that we share that time together in the morning – the food and the conversation fuel our day. I think it’s critical for kids to have variety in their meals and to continually try different foods. Breakfast is a great time to introduce them to new kinds of bread, cereal and fruit, don’t you think?

Grits!
Standard daily breakfast is a granola bar, when I have the time I prefer cereal. But favorite? Oh yum! French Toast with a side of bacon and scrambled eggs…. OH or Space Pancakes!! Those are probably really my all time favorite (I think they are really called German Pancakes? My family always called them space pancakes because my brothers though they looked like space ships!). :)
English muffin with butter and honey. Yumm-o!
Green smoothies! Thanks so much for the opportunity!
Breakfast for me is plain oatmeal w/half a cup of vanilla yogurt stirred in. For everyone else it’s a fend for yourself meal. Usually cereal, breakfast bars, fruit, frozen waffles, and eggs are available.
Breakfast burritos, hands down!
Yum!
They’re easy too!
We like to eat on the go!
I love chocolate cereal. So bad for me though.
Mmm. Nothing better than breakfast potatoes with a poached egg on top!
Eggs and cheese grits preferably in bed with a cup of coffee and a good book!
Fav breakfast food at home – cereal
Fav breakfast food out – eggs, grits, crunchy bacon, toast
Fruit (strawberry and banana) smoothies paired with a piece of wheat bread with butter. When we have time to cook, our favorite would be sausages, eggs and pancakes.
I don’t think there’s any breakfast food that I don’t like! We like breakfast food so much that we often have it for supper – at least once a week or more :) On most mornings, I eat oatmeal or cereal. For supper, I often fix eggs, sausage, biscuits, grits, waffles, pancakes or some combination thereof!
Breakfast is one of my favorite meals, so I always try to make time for it. I usually have a caffe latte and maybe some Kellogs Special K cereal with soymilk.
Like you, I was never much of a breakfast person until I was in my 20’s. Now I love it. My kids like pancakes the best and I love a variety. Lately, I have been on a “egg in a basket” kick (the Pioneer Woman recipe)although I know the large amount of butter isn’t great for me. It sure is yummy though! :)
I love a good omlette with bacon, cream cheese, and onion. YUM!
My husband and I aren’t morning people, so we usually miss breakfast. We eat it for dinner sometimes-egg and bacon!
Steel cut oatmeal with fresh strawberries and blueberries! mmmmm
I love waffles!
Waffles! And bacon. Definitely bacon.
my Granny’s homemade biscuits with her strawberry preserves … nothing else comes close
My favorite breakfast item is quiche and fresh fruit! Normally we are eating oatmeal or cereal though!
Right now I am trying to lose weight and my favorite breakfast consists of Special K ceral with skim milk. But…if I could eat it and not gain weight my favorite would be scrambled eggs, bacon. biscuits, gravy, hashbrowns and oj!
I love Special K Red Berries, my all time fav
I am currently addicted to special k with red berries followed by a mug of hot chocolate. I just realized I am out of said cocoa. Tomorrow will be sad.
My favorite traditional breakfast is pancakes with maple syrup (blueberries pancakes are my fav) and bacon (with some syrup on the bacon).
My non-standard gourmet favorite is eggs benedict with regular bacon replacing the canadian bacon.
Tammy
Favorite? Easy – bacon and eggs. Daily routine, much healthier — protein shake.
I love oatmeal or a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I’m also known to enjoy a big bowl of cereal. And don’t get me started on grits, bacon, eggs, etc.
I love breakfast!
Breakfast is not my favorite…even though I know it’s the most important meal of the day. If I have to eat it, I will do peanut butter toast, or an egg/english muffin sandwich. My kids love anything for breakfast. With 2 in braces, we have done soft eggs, applesauce w/ cinnamon, even jello! Mostly all 5 of them will eat something different!
My favorite is Greek yogurt with granola and fresh fruit.
I love fresh FRUIT for breakfast. Depending on the season of course. This summer I have enjoyed watermelon, grapes, cantelope, and strawberries each morning. Sometimes I’ll add some yogurt.
My youngest loves pancakes. My middle likes breakfast sandwiches. My hubby likes yogurt parfaits woth flax and I love cereal. I would eat cold cereal for dinner! I just tried cinnamon/pecan Special K yesterday. Yummy!!
I love me some blueberries, strawberries, a little dash of sugar and some cream. Yum.
I love pecan pancakes…but it’s usually yogurt and fruit or cereal for breakfast around here.

My favorite breakfast food would have to be Belgian waffles w/blueberries and whipped cream. Unfortunately we usually eat cereal because it is quick and easy!
My favorite breakfast food is scrambled eggs with mushroom and cheese paired with wheat bread with butter. Also skim milk :) However, during weekdays when we are pressed for time, it is usually a fruit smoothie and a piece of wheat bread with butter or cream cheese or cereals and milk and fruit.
Our favorite breakfast is omelettes
I love cheese grits too. And sausage with a little syrup on top of them.
I love cinnamon swirl bagels. Yum!
I like fried eggs w/ hash browns.
We all love egg burritos and they are so easy to make! Just scramble some eggs, put them on a tortilla with some shredded cheese and microwave for 30 seconds. It gets the cheese melted and the tortilla soft. Then just roll up and eat. My husband and I like to put some bacon and salsa on them too!
Breakfast food IS my favorite food. Love cereal, pancakes, eggs, toaster strudels- all of it!
I have many loves, but right now french toast sounds good to me!
Country ham!!!
I usually just grab a coffee and english muffin in the morning, but I love to take it outside in the garden:>) Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway!
A good Florentine Eggs Benedict from a local cafe here in town. Yum!
When my husband cooks eggs!
Got to be homemade chocolate chip waffles, though cereal is an every day thing around here.
I love waffles with strawberry jelly.
During the week, I always eat a big bowl of Cherrios with banana cut up in it.
Love coffee cake!
I go in streaks. Several weeks of just English muffins….next streak will be toast and peanut butter…next cereal…mixed (never one kind in the bowl!)
On hot breakfast days, I love egg and Swiss cheese on a toasted, buttered bagel. On cold breakfast days (which are WAY more often), my favorite is Frosted Mini-Wheats. It’s only a small addiction. No need for alarm! :-)
I love warm pancakes with lots of butter and syrup! Yumm-O!
I love everything about breakfast food. Pancakes, waffles, sausage, oatmeal, muffins…. or sometimes I will do something crazy like salami and Coke for breakfast.
Carnation Instant Breakfast – quick, easy and tastes like chocolate milk!
i love a fried egg (over medium) and toast with some hash-browns and bacon or sausage.
My absolute favorite breakfast is a big bowl of thick homemade yogurt with sugared frozen raspberries stirred in. And I need to go eat some right now…
As a kid Fruit Loops was one of my top two food groups. (*See ridiculously long comment on your Smuckers post.)
They made me all kinds of happy.
Now that I’m older, I love breakfast! Breakfast meals with the work–bacon and/or sausage, wheat biscuits, grits, eggs–or usually eaten in our home at dinner.
I LOVE PB&J and as my ridiculously long comment on your Smuckers post says, eat them for breakfast now almost always! Smuckers all natural creamy peanut butter and sugar free jellies and jams ROCK! Sometimes they rock for both breakfast and lunch on wheat toast.
Cereal is a late night snack for me. The rules have changes, people.
Cinnamon toast or pancakes!!
I love a fresh homemade blueberry waffle with real maple syrup! Yummy. :)
For a hot breakfast, I love pancakes and bacon or CHOCOLATE GRAVY (yes, there is such a thing here in the Mountain South, and my kids love it).
I usually end up buying a pop tart out of the vending machine at work & eating that with my coffee for breakfast!
Cereal with fruit is the go to breakfast for us, but it is hard to beat homemade biscuits.
Mmm…there are so many! I love eggs, bacon, hash browns and biscuits!
I love b’fast burritos. Handy to eat in the car.
I love the almond croissants from Le Madeline. But, if I’m making breakfast, I’ll go for blueberry pancakes with walnuts crushed in-oh so good!
I love a lot of different breakfasts, but lately its been peanut butter and honey sandwiches for the kids while they watch cartoons in the morning… not the best, but then they’ll eat at least.
Egg salad on toast!
Frosted Flakes! They’re great!
I love biscuits and my mama’s gravy…as any Southern girl does.
peanut butter & grape jelly on sourdough toast! with a big ole glass of milk. YUM!
We’ve usually got several different types of breakfast food being eaten. One child may want pancakes, one child always wants dry cereal in a bowl no milk, while one child likes egg sandwiches. It’s quite busy in the morning at our house.
Whole wheat blueberry pancakes! But I’m kinda lazy, so we go with Cheerios or Kashi most of the time.
I love weekend breakfasts: french toast, bacon and eggs, or quiche! Mostly it’s fruit or cereal for me.
I love breakfast casseroles. They’ve always been a special occasion food in my home and that means company or holiday time.
Cereal and yogurt!
My kids are always ready for my homemade waffles…. (and truthfully, so are the neighbors. When they hear it’s a waffle morning at my house, they’re usually begging for a few for themselves, too!!)
LOVE breakfast–even have a breakfast club. Pretty much it’s all about bacon.
I love anything breakfast: waffles, cereal, OJ, bagels and cream cheese, breakfast bars, protein shakes….not all at once though!
Well, what I really like for b’fast as opposed to what I usually actually eat (as I tend to remain abed until the last possible moment!!)are vast fields apart! Oatmeal with brown sugar, almonds, dried fruit or Shaklee CINCH shake with milk and fresh fruit are both delish…..and, like your lil’ sweetie, I generally prefer my cereal dry with milk on the side!
Eggos
Warm Betty Crocker blueberry muffins with butter!
I love making pancakes on saturday mornings for our family of 6. It feels so good to all be able to enjoy a yummy meal together:)
we eat cereal most mornings, but when i get time i love making a big old breakfast of bacon, eggs and chocolate chip pancakes.
I love to eat my chickens fresh eggs with two pieces of toast. My kids like eggs or waffles.
I would eat a Sausage McMuffin with cheese every morning if I thought I could get away with it. When they run their Two for $2 deal, I am there every morning. I like to think of it as getting me one step closer to heaven.
We are a grab what’s available kind of family, typically ceral. As a homeschool Mommy I always had grand plans of homemade meals three time a day, but the reality is that isn’t possible for our family and that’s okay.:)
toasted bagels and good coffee — mmmmm!
We love cereal, but our special occasion breakfast is definitely Breakfast Burritos. Mmmmmmmmmm.
Simple toaster waffles and cereal.
I love a good fruit smoothie with a little protein powder. Weird I know but it means I can “drink” my breakfast as I take care of my 4 kids 5 and under.
I love a stack of fresh hot fluffy pancakes with yummy melted butter and syrup! :)
ljatwood at gmail dot com
pancakes & Bama red plum jam.
Breakfast cake! My Dad always said that cake had eggs, milk – all good breakfast foods. To this day, when there is cake in the house we’re allowed to eat Breakfast Cake!
Chocolate chip pop-tarts are a staple food for 2 of my boys. The youngest is only one so he gets prunes and rice cereal but I see the gleam in his eye when I put the poptarts on the table.
My favorite breakfast food is blueberry waffles with strawberries and powdered sugar on top!
Oh, I love eggs and cereal. And don’t forget the grits!
Bagel with cream cheese or greek yogurt with granola.
My very favorite is Eggs Benedict! But at home, I usually eat muffins on a daily basis. Or Froot Loops — I’m a kid at heart!
My husband and I usually have a 1/2 a bagel each morning. I like it with jam and milk, while my hubby likes it with cream cheese and coffee. On the weekends, we enjoy Frosted Flakes.
