We Have Also Listened To So Much Classic Country Music That I Can’t Get Patsy Cline To Quit Singing In My Head

All righty. I have to write this post super-fast because my laptop battery is dying and the cord is downstairs and I’m either too tired or too lazy to walk down there and get it. Regardless, we’ve got about 44 minutes left on this charge, so WE’RE IN A RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK, PEOPLE. A RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK.

Alex and I have been in Nashville this weekend so that I can help Sister with round two of getting-her-house-back-in-order-after-post-flood-reconstruction. GHHBIOAPFR for short. I think the acronym is catchy, don’t you? The little man went back and forth about whether he was going to stay at home with his daddy or drive up here with me, but three factors influenced his decision to make the trip to Nashville: 1) he wanted to see Sister and Barry 2) he wanted some time just with me since I was in Houston last weekend and 3) there’s a Sonic close to Sister’s house. We don’t have a Sonic near us at home, and he seriously thinks that eating there is the biggest treat on earth, as evidenced by the fact that we’ve made five trips to Sonic since we got here Friday night. FIVE. Now granted, three of those trips were beverage runs while we were out running errands, but still. I guess it’s a good thing that there’s no Sonic near our house, or we’d all be in the grips of a Sonic-related stronghold.

Making this trip was a little trickier than usual because I wanted to be able to keep a commitment at home and do the house stuff with Sister. Then D came to the rescue and offered to pitch in with the stuff at home so that I could be here. It really was so sweet of him, especially considering that this is the third weekend in a row that I’ve been out of town and our house is sort of a wreck and the thing at home meant that he was going to have to cook a roast, but this is just sort of how we do life. We run at full speed-bordering-on-chaos for a few weeks, and then everything settles down and we’re total homebodies for a four-month stretch. I attribute this tendency to my borderline introvert/extrovert personality, which means that I do many things with many people for an short-but-intense period of time, and then I go home and put on my pajamas and make sure nothing is on our calendar for a sweet forever so that I am completely free to focus on hanging out with my people and decorating for fall and making all sorts of new and exciting soups.

We like to live on the edge.

Anyway, the fact that D had to make a roast led to all sorts of funny phone conversations over the course of the weekend, like when I tried to explain what cut of roast to buy and how much salt to sprinkle on the meat and how much water I put in the crock pot and how I like to cube the potatoes. Everything seemed to go off without a hitch, and I am very grateful because Sister and I have been able to accomplish a whole bunch here. Granted, we’ve burned up the road going from TJ Maxx to Home Goods to Pier 1 to World Market, but parts of her house are starting to look like home again, and that’s a very good thing indeed. We’ve had a great time. Plus, the Bulldogs won their game against Houston last night, and a Bulldog win is always icing on top of the weekend cake.

Or cheese on top of the weekend tater tots from Sonic, as it were.

And now my battery indicator thing is red and about to shut’er down, and that’s probably a welcome relief to anyone who has managed to read this far because SWEET MERCY this is 700 words of bona fide random, and I’d apologize except for the fact that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that tomorrow will be no different.

Love,
Me

  1. That’s all right. I like random.

But that title had me all ready for a post about classic country music. Maybe next time?

  2. I’m so sad for you that you don’t have a Sonic near you. Bless your heart. :)

  3. Random is great! love your blog!

  4. Random is always good!

It’s very sweet of you to help out sister

Our house operates the same way. 700 things packed into a weekend….and then nothing… lol :)

Hope you and sister have fun!

  5. I’m at work all by myself right now. Not much to do until later this afternoon. I’ll have you know that before I sat down in front of my computer to read my fav blogs, I said to myself, “Since no one is here and no one will know, I think I’ll run out to the Sonic for a beverage.” Stronghold, yes indeedy.

  6. oh, sweetbabyjesus.

i, too, am a borderline e/i. i’m also a borderline p/j. it’s especially confusing when i’m not sure which combination is at work. and i’m just not sure either meyers or briggs came up with a way to define people like that.

good thing i’ve never found a box to fit inside else i’d have major issues. i mean, in addition to the ones i already have.

and someone keeps calling me a sanguine. is that a good thing to be?

anyway, i’m totes the exact same way – run, run, run…rest…run, run, run…rest…

and in my family, i would be you and Sister would be (one of) my sister(s). so fun. wouldn’t trade it for a thing.

    xo

  7. and, p.s. patsy cline is my veeerrry faaavoriiite in the whooole wooorrrld.

  8. I love you, Boomama! You have such a humorous attitude about stuff I do all of the time, too, but I usually am too stressed to laugh about it. Sad. Sad. It always does my heart good to read your post…….makes me LAUGH:)

I’m with Alex….Sonic is great! The closest one to us is 60 miles away. So, it’s a real treat for us whenever we are in that area.

Sister is so lucky to have a sister like you. I think that you should have video recorded your decorating/shopping,etc. (AND your conversations with D about cooking!) I’m sure that all of you would have been far more entertaining than any of the current reality shows on TV. Maybe keep that in mind for a “Boocast”.

BTW, how did D’s roast come out? I love it whenever my guys try to cook. My oldest son lives about 170 miles from us and I’ve gotten calls from him while he is in Krogers, in his kitchen, from his friend’s kitchen, etc. The conversation starts with….”Hey, Mom, how do you make……?” It thrills my heart when he misses his Mom’s cooking:)

    God bless you, Boomama!

  9. Sonic! Oh my sweet friend Sonic!
    I heart it too!

We have one in the next town over and EVERYTIME we go there…..we must stop at Sonic!
And if it’s happy hour….all the better!
I call that a jackpot visit!

Don’t even try the chili-cheese fries! They are like big people crack!

  10. I loved this post. Your ramblings make me feel like I just had a long conversation with my college roommate. Sounds like a fun and productive weekend – and your husband is a gem!

  11. You do like to live on the edge!

  12. Lauren from Indiana but now Back in Texas says:

SO THANKFUL that your Sister’s house is getting put back together! SO THANKFUL that Nashville is getting put back together! God is Most Excellent!

  13. If the Sonic people ever read this post, I think they may decide to build a Sonic close to your house. They know they could make a profit just from your household alone!

  14. You too? Patsy so invaded my head this weekend I spent way too much time looking at her you tube clips and stalking her wickipedia page. Confirms my suspicion that you and i are the same person. Except you’re not old. Or morose. Or an OU football fan. So maybe not the exact same person.

  15. I love your random! :)

  16. Two words. Cherry Limeade. And that Sonic ice… well that is just heaven in a cup.

  17. Fresh lime slush and Cheddar Peppers with Ranch:
oh, Sonic, you are so cruel in your strongholds with me…

  18. I had to run an errand for DH this a.m. and thought while I was out I deserved a Sonic Dt.Coke. So sorry you don’t have one near you.

  19. Question for BooMama or any one else who may know – especially you experienced bloggers. Is there any way possible to get comments from email to post on my blog? These are comments regarding specific posts – just probably not read under google blooger – I imagine these folks are reading from email????? Make sense? Thanks!

  20. I love random posts and I love the lemon-berry slush at Sonic!

  21. dawn-htown says:

and my boys and i had the good fortune of getting msu vs UofH tickets and we went to that bulldog game here in our town. And the tickets were from some UofH alums and of course were slap dab in the middle of all the university of houston Red zone which was making us stand out since we were all decked out in our Maroon and white. So we did what any good bulldog fan would do, we switched sides of the stadium and found us some great seats with the funniest mississippi sounding folks you’ve ever seen. And the best line of the night…after witnessing what must have been the 4th or 5th person get tossed out of the game for “behavior” reason, the sweet cute college kid from Vicksburg MS stated, “well thats what you get for serving beer at a State game, cause ya know..we WON’T behave. We have laughed til we cried about that!

  22. I, too, am struck with a overwhelming sadness at you not having a Sonic nearby. This is a “oh bless your heart, shug” moment if ever the south ordered one.

ps- CAN WE TALK about the cheesesticks?? it’s like crack breaded and then deep fried!!

  23. I was so sure you would have something good to say about the Gamecocks whooping Bama!

  24. Okay, now I KNOW that you really need to come and visit us in Tupelo – we have three Sonic drive-ins. And have you ever had the pleasure that is their cheesecake bites? We call them “little deep-fried cubes o’ love”

  25. Would you believe me if I told you there was a Sonic about a mile from my house and I have never been to a Sonic! I guess I need to try it!

  26. I thought of you when I was in Border’s the other day (even though I don’t even know you) and saw a book entitled “The Glamour of Grammar” by Roy Peter Clark. I picked it up and started reading it and could NOT put it down. It is a hilarious but practical and informative guide to good grammar and great writing.

I used to write professionally and am a total grammar nerd too so I thought I’d share in case you were interested in picking it up.

  27. I love the random. I have to say that burning up the road between Homegoods & TJMaxx and Pier 1 and World Market sounds like a DREAM to me. A dream, I tell you. I hit 3 aisles of pure Homegoods-Clearance-Bliss last week and have not come down from the high yet.

  28. Oh hahahahaha. I can so relate!

  29. Oh, I hope you were rockin’ those booties while in Nashville! Or was it too hot there like it was here in Birmingham? 91??? Isn’t this October 11? And I can so relate to the phone conversations about cooking something that is out of the norm for DH. We try very hard to stick to spaghetti and grilled items when he is doing the cooking. Hope you had a safe trip home and got to go one more time to Sonic.

  30. Girlfriend, you’re making me stumble!

” . . . then I go home and put on my pajamas and make sure nothing is on our calendar for a sweet forever so that I am completely free to focus on hanging out with my people and decorating for fall and making all sorts of new and exciting soups.”

    I am soooooo covetous!

    Enjoy!

    Grins!,
