But Wait! Excuses!

I’m still working on a post about this past weekend. So far it’s over 1600 words.

This seems a bit excessive. At least to me. But apparently I walked away from Deeper Still with a spirit of wordiness.

And then yesterday afternoon I had the distinct privilege of helping my child with a visual book report that involved drawing symbols from a book and then using those symbols to decorate a Christmas tree made from construction paper. We both cried, and I basically set a new bar for some staggeringly sub-par parenting skills. I have no idea why the recurring theme for the month of December seems to be “spiritual refining through crafts,” but it’s where we are. I ended up having to apologize to that sweet boy about four different times. Bless that tender, forgiving heart of his. He is better than I deserve.

All that to say: it’s shaping up to be a cuckoo week. Lots of real-life stuff that needs my real-time attention. So bear with me, y’all.

And by all means have a lovely Wednesday.

p.s. There’s a new $150 Visa card giveaway for The Laughing Cow that I posted this morning.

p.p.s. Last night I wrote a recap of Kay Arthur’s message at Deeper Still. You can find it over at AllAccess.

p.p.p.s. I believe that’s all.

  1. Spiritual refining through crafts indeed! I’m constantly being refined by children in my life. A 5th grader interviewed me at Live with Flair, and I wished I could be more like her: http://livewithflair.blogspot.com/2010/12/what-you-have-to-know.html

  2. I completely understand the busyness. I have not been able to post in over a month. Good luck with all the crafting. :)

  3. You know, what is WITH the busyness this month!? My gosh, I haven’t had a minute to do anything and then if someone threw a craft my way like what you described (and let’s recap: I actually DO like to craft), well, there would have been some tears here, too. God bless, Sophie!

  4. Add to that a recent (read: last week) move with plenty of unpacked boxes and zero Christmas shopping done yet! I’ve got a crazy couple of weeks coming up…

  5. “Spiritual refining through crafts” is just about the funniest thing I have heard in a long long time!
    Yeah for crafts!

  6. i do like to craft (kind of a newfound love, actually), but the “spiritual refining through crafts” comment and your last post about crafting had me laughing out loud! thanks for staying funny, even through these dark times :)

  7. I think we need to have a prayer vigil to release you from the craft demon. I hate crafts with the power of a thousand suns.

  8. Whoa Nelly at the craft requirements, girl! That would make me crazed too, and I’m sorta into that kinda thing. Not that y’all don’t have 65,032 other things to do during the Christmas season, let’s just pile you up with complicated projects. ;D
Hang in there… I *have to* believe that they will remember far less than what we will about their growing up. Little Sweeties.. they sure are forgiving, aren’t they? ;(

  9. I don’t understand any of what you said about that Christmas tree, but I am dying to see it.

  10. I hear you on the hatred and frustration with crafts!! Many of my moments of gratitude for Jody occur when he is helping Chan or MR with a poster, mobile, etc. :-) I would PAY cash money to be excused from a craft project!!!

  11. Give yourself an “A” for effort. You’re doing just fine. Despite your trepidations and frustrations, you continue to keep trying. Many moms would have thrown in the towel, but not you. He’s extremely fortunate to have a mom like you.

  12. I spoke at a MOPS group Monday night and quit my craft long before it had a chance to spiritually refine me. DOWN WITH CRAFTS!!

  13. Thinking of you and praying that tomorrow you will be set free from the “refining through crafts”.

  14. I am lovin’ your trial by fire in the craft world. A lot of us feel your pain, sista!
Darlin’, you post that enormous blog about Deeper Still. Sure it will make us laugh & cry – glory to God for his lavish love poured out on us!

  15. You simply amaze me & your blog makes me smile all the time!!
I can’t wait to read about Deeper Still. I live in Alabaster & I didn’t even know it was happening! What on earth is wrong with me!?!

  16. are we doing the Christmas house tour again this year ? pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease
