Temporarily Interrupting The Blackeyed Pea-Cookin’ With A Very Sincere “Thank You”

Last night, when I was Reflecting Thoughtfully On The Year Of Our Lord Two-Oh-Oh-Six, I kept thinking about how the biggest change for me in the last year has been the whole blogging thing. A year ago there were literally three people who read my blog: Merritt, Tracey and Elise. I only told them about it because I figured that everybody else was too busy to care (not that those three aren’t busy, of course – but Merritt and Elise are known for their computer efficiency and for answering emails in 2.4 seconds, so I knew they’d make time to read, and Tracey loves a Southern story more than just about anybody I know).

And now, well, there are all of you. Tens of you, in fact.

And you give me prizes!

(Side note: this is the first time I’ve ever posted two images side-by-side, as in the past I have had absolutely no idea how to achieve such a stunning bloggy effect. So you can expect to be bombarded with that particular photo trick in 2007, in keeping with my philosophy that too much of a good thing is a good thing. That is my promise to you.)

Of course, the Blog Skin award really has nothing to do with me whatsoever, as I was just the blessed recipient of Heather‘s kind redesign offer, so be sure to click here to see all the other great work that Heather, Laura and their designing compadres have done (should that be commadres? is there any such word? should I have paid more attention in Spanish class?).

Anyway, I hope Heather and the folks at Swank will grab a copy of the “Winner” button and post it on their site – because it really belongs to them (OH MY WORD this is starting to sound like some kind of acceptance speech. My deepest apologies).

So here’s to more funny in 2007. And y’all better start talking to my family about maintaining the high level of Wacky Hijinks in ’07 that they did in ’06, because if it weren’t for them all I’d have to talk about is food and TV. Just giving credit where credit is due.

And while you’re at it, be sure to stop by a few of the blogs that make me laugh each and every day (in addition to Big Mama and Antique Mommy, who were also nominated in the “Most Humorous” category and are way better writers than I am if you want to know the truth of the matter):

Days To Come
It Coulda Been Worse
This Ain’t New York

Thanks, everybody.

And Happy New Year, y’all.

    Linda

  2. Congrats to you, Boomama. I can’t imagine the others are funnier that you, but I promise to check them out.

May the Lord provide you with many sweet and funny memories to blog in 2007! Happy New Year!

  3. Congrats to you on your bloggy wins!

And, thanks for the compliments. ;>)

What would we write about without our relatives? Maybe they should make a button for them, too.

  4. Congrats!! That’s awesome!!

    Mary, mom to many

  5. Congratulations! You deserve both awards. I can always come here for a smile and that means a lot!

  6. Congrats on the awards! I have a question for you though about your blackeyed pea cooking:-) Just want to see how Southern you are lol Are you cooking them in pig parts? ;-)

If bacon fat counts, then yes ma’am, I am. :-)

  7. Congratulations Boomama!! I’m looking forward to lots more fun in 2007 too. I also appreciate your spiritual insights. You do a great job.

  8. OH MY WORD! Thank you so much for mentioning me. Did I mention OH MY WORD!

It was such a pleasure desiging it for you BooMama, you are such a joy in the blogging world, and the design fits you so very well :)

We are pressure cooking our Black eyed peas at the moment, to go along with our prime rib :)

You have a very lovely new year sweet friend!

Heather (who has changed urls, btw)

  9. Congrats Boo!!!! You and the rest keep me going day after day :)

  10. I think anyone who gets to post TWO awards side by side, and does it so beautifully, might I add, is entitled to a little acceptance speech. :-)

Congratulations, Boo Mama. If you’d just get on with it and get that book published, I’d be first in line for my autographed copy.

And…don’t you think it’s only proper and fitting that you post that blackeyed pea recipe? I swear, the canned stuff gags me and I can’t for the life of me remember how my grandma made them but I suspect yours would be right up there in wonderfulness. I think a New Year’s Day blackeyed pea recipe would be awesome. And knowing you, you could even put a humorous spin on it!

(Thank you for the sweet comment. Made my day, it did.)

  11. Phyllis R. says:

Congratulations BooMama! I enjoy reading ALL of those nominated in the humor category. Your southern take on things has been so wonderful to me – I’ve been away from my Mississippi roots for many years, but it always makes me happy to read and remember all that “Southerness”! I’m so grateful that you share your funny family with us.

  12. Elizabeth says:

I’ve so enjoyed all your stories and am happy to be one of the “tens” who read your blog. Looking forward to more laughs in 2007. Happy New Year, BooMama!

  13. Congratulations on the awards, BooMama! I knew you’d be in the top 3, like Barb, and I’m not surprised at all that you won.

Here’s to more happy blogging in 2007. :-)

  14. Congrats and Happy 2007 BooMama. you are truly the best!

  15. Woohoo! I have to agree with the awards. Your posts are definitely hilarious to read. I love your play by play accounts of your family the most. Keep up the great writing so we can laugh even more in 2007.

  16. I’ve just recently started reading your blog, BooMama, and absolutely love it! Count me as one of the “tens” who are hooked on your humor and gifted storytelling. OH MY WORD….you certainly DO deserve an award. Here’s to a wonderful 2007……to you and your family. God bless.

  17. Bravo, for a job well done. You have entertained me and lifted my spirits on many a day. (Please thank your family for me.)

Thanks for sharing your gift with us all year long. You are a tremendous blessing in the blogosphere.

  18. I’m wondering what a group blog by you three would be like – we’d all be wearing Depends I’m sure. Well-deserved award. We’re blessed to have all three of you to visit with – really. xoox

  19. Girl, you know we all think you’re the bees knees.

Congratulations Boomama! And I personally am sending up a prayer that Sissie and Old Martie will continue to provide quality blogging material.

  20. Congratulations on the blog skin award, especially. You know, I was really hoping to win that one with my button-heavy blogger template. LOL!

Hmmmm….How DO you know when it’s time for a redesign?

  21. Dittos of congratulations! I’m another recent convert to the BooMama corner on Southern humor. Your series on Martha & Sissie put me right back into my childhood. Thanks for sweetening the tang of Southern life.

  22. Congratulations, BooMama! You especially deserved that Humorous awards ’cause you always make me laugh (as do the other two wonderful finalists). Now blow your nose and get busy on another Martie and Sissie story for next year’s awards. ;)

  23. You definitely deserve awards – way to go!

I have a new blog address instead of tesstalks.blogspot.com

As you can see. Because you have a nifty little section there that ASKS for my website address. :)

  24. congrats!!

  25. Completely and totally deserved! Congrats…=)

  26. Congratulations!

    Keep up the good stuff!

  27. You do indeed deserve the kudos and recognition for your truly Southern style and humor! It’s a Must Have for the day to go on….daily.
    thanks!

  28. Congratulations, Boomama! You have brought about a whole way of life alive to me a northerner who has no idea about any of these important southern things that direct life. It’s been a joy.

  29. Lea Margaret says:

I loved clicking on the little linkies and re reading about you crazy girls. Brought back some good ole memories! Miss yall!!

  30. I have been in a techno-blackout thanks to the fact that I added a few new programs to my ‘puter and used up all but one ounce of disk space (may I just say oops!) and you can imagine how that thrilled not just my ‘puter (not)but Antique Daddy who had to clean up computer puke. ALL THAT TO SAY – Congratulations Boo, you are fabulous!

  31. Congratulations!!!

  32. Hey, congratualtions! Even though the term “blog skin” totally creeps me out because it reminds me of Silence of the Lambs when Hannibal ripped that guys face off in an attempt to disguise himself, and then of course that reminds me of cannibalism and all that it entails.

    But hey, good for you!

  33. And thanks for the shout out.
