Sic ‘Em!

It is always cause for celebration when we hold back the Tide.

State – 71
Bama – 58

I need many, many details from those in attendance. Daph, EK – time for you to step up to the commenting plate, and I’m really really sorry that I’ve mixed sporting metaphors.

Seriously, there’s no one I’d rather beat in basketball, not even the Rebels, who I actually feel a wee bit sorry for right now because I think Rod Barnes is a really nice man.

Regardless, I think our young b’ball team is finally coming together, finding their rhythm, getting to know each other, and the future is looking bright for BAS-ketball, Mississippi State style. Maybe we’ll surprise some folks in the tournament.

Way to go, Dogs.

  1. I shall never forget the March afternoon in 2004 when we (BooMama, Alex and I) cheered our Dawgs to overtime victory at Bama to win the SEC West. Victory was sweet then and it certainly is sweet NOW.
    Go Dawgs, Sic ‘Em!

  2. Go Dawgs!!! It was a heck of a game. Slater was hurt during the GA game and Edmonson is still injured. Turns out, that’s GREAT!!! The starting line-up: R.Delk, Boler, Morgan, Gordon, and Rhodes!! I actually saw more plays run last night than in the whole season combined. Boler shot a couple of great 3’s. The Delk twins rotated in and out — great shooters. Morgan did better — needs to be much more aggressive. Gordon and Rhodes are just supreme. The guys last night played with HEART!!! It was a very aggressive game — the refs actually let them both get away with lots of fouls. We came out strong and that set the tempo for the game. I like this line up because they are thinkers, more so than the run and gun and fling ball group we’ve had all season!!! How will they do in Nashville? The Lord only knows!! But, they WON’T give up and I’ll take that anyday!!!
Daph, I looked and looked for you!!!! I did find J. Brown though and we visited. He is in S’ville now. He had his son, Ben, with him. It was great to visit.
The Dawgs are doing it right!!!

  3. I like what you said about this group being thinkers…that’s a trait we’ve sorely missed since Timmy B. and Brandon Vincent left. We had Shane P. last year…but one guy can’t run the show all by himself. Know who I don’t miss? Ervin. I think the Delk twins are going to be great…and Jamont Gordon? He’s awesome. The biggest challenge with him will be keeping him in S’ville for anything other than one more year…NBA, all the way. :-)

  4. Well, I’m still in Starkvegas, but I was hoping Soph would mention the game. There’s nothing I enjoy more than beating Bummer (no offense to any Bummers on the Blog). I was very impressed with Rhodes. He is a totally different player than the one I saw play early this season, much more poised. We have some very talented young players; if we had a center, we’d be set next year.

The Hump was rockin’! Much, much fun. More later.

  5. I think Sharpe leaving was the best thing that could have happened to Rhodes. In fact, I think Sharpe leaving was the best thing that happened to our team all year. Maybe Rick has a trick or two up his sleeve center-wise – a juco player, maybe?

And Daph, you must hurry home – Oscars tonight! For the record, I have seen TWO – yes, count ’em, TWO – of the nominated films. Oh well.

  6. And Sister – I’ve actually started a post on the State / Bama game in ’04…in honor of SEC tourney week and all. :-)

  7. Oh, BooMama, you know I wouldn’t miss the Oscars even though I, too, have only seen 2 of the movies nominated in major categories. Hey, but in the minor categories, I HAVE seen Wallace & Gromit and Harry Potter 4. Do you think I’m slipping?

Bubba, Three 6 Mafia just gave a shout-out to “Memphis, Tennessee” in their Oscar acceptance speech. Just thought you’d be proud.

  8. Daph, don’t you think Jon Stewart is the perfect fit for the Oscars? And Bubba, I’m sure you have ALL the Three 6 Mafia CD’s in your collection.

  9. Merritt says:

Since this kinda turned into a comment board for the Oscars, let me just take this opportunity to say…YEAH, GEORGE!!!! YEAH, REESE!!!
