Oh, where to start?
First, let me start with Lea Margaret. They got to the hospital this AM for Mac’s surgery, and within about five minutes they found out that the heart surgeon had been called in at 2 in the morning to do a heart transplant. So Mac’s surgery has been postponed for another week – it’s next Friday, the 14th, at 12:30.
LM and family are on their way home to Mississippi and will go back to N’ville next week. She said that she’s a little disappointed – they were just ready to have put this chapter behind them, understandably. But she did ask that you continue to pray for them as they prepare for next week’s surgery, and to also pray for the two families affected by the heart transplant…the family who lost a child, and the family whose child is receiving the heart. Perspective-wise, she said, what her family is dealing with is absolutely nothing in comparison.
Second, Martha’s birthday luncheon. And I say “luncheon” because you don’t get real food at luncheons. At a lunch, at least in this part of the world, you get hearty food: fried chicken, vegetables, rolls, cobbler, etc. At a luncheon, however, you get what I listed in the title of this post. And you also get some of your child’s macaroni and cheese, because three year olds aren’t so thrilled when their mac and cheese contains asiago cheese, parmesan cheese and sun dried tomatoes. I, however, enjoyed it very much.
And just so you know, our car headed instinctively to Burger King approximately one hour after the luncheon was over. :-)
But all that is sort of beside the point, because the food was not the reason for the trip – Martha’s birthday was. And she had a LARGE time.
Here’s Alex with the birthday girl.
And here’s A. with his great-grandmother, Sissie – 96 years young.
My favorite part of the whole day was when we were picking up Martha and Sissie for lunch, and Sissie was calling for Martha to do something or other – get her purse, get her cane, hurry up, etc. – and Alex listened for a second, then looked at me, and just like a little tape recorder said, “Maah-thah, can you come he-ah?”
Big fun for all on hand.
Happy Weekend, y’all.

Man alive do they look fabulous – such great looking southern women. At 96 she looks wonderful. My MIL is 93 – I wont tell her to look at this photo – too depressing for her. Tell me what lotion they use, or maybe its all that butter they eat?
Sorry if this is a dumb question; I’ve been an avid reader of your Blog for about a week or so now. THOROUGHLY enjoying it! (sidenote: what a cutie of a boy you have!)
Just wondering where ‘Boomama’ came from?
They both do look mahvelous. Won’t they be tickled that you put their photos on your blog?
Bev – Martha uses Eucerin skin creme and Sissie uses Oil of Olay – neither of them is a fan of an expensive skin care regiment. And they have NEVER been in direct sunlight for more than about 20 minutes. And even then they wore hats. :-) But I’ll tell you what – those two, and my mama, are the reason I stay out of the sun. GORGEOUS skin.
Chris – Here’s the scoop: http://boomama.blogspot.com/2006/04/at-least-i-didnt-call-it-giggles-grins.html. Thanks for the encouragement – and welcome. :-)
Brenda – They would be tickled to death if they only knew how to turn on a computer. Or access the internet. Or pull up my blog. So I guess they’re all 21st century now and will never even know it. “You put our what? On a what? A BLOG? Spell that for me. What does that MEAN? What does that MEAN?” They’re funny.
So glad there was a Burger King nearby. Love that flame broiled goodness. Which, by the way, is the burger my trainer said I should eat if I had to have one!
I will be praying for Mac, and the families you asked prayer for.
I was passing through and read your post…and wow, yes, those women are gorgeous! And so very elegant. Please tell them we all said so, too!
Blessings…
~Tammy
Oh, I wish I could have been there. I’ll bet it was more FUN! I’ll bet it was more FUN! Oh, FUN, FUN! :)
And, Martha’s jacket looks darling…a little silk patchy-patch work, maybe? Cute.
xo,
I’m glad that there was a BK near by! The ladies too indeed look fantastic! I hope I look that great when I’m that age!
That is hallarious… I can see him saying that. I may add Boomama that Alex is sooooooooo beautiful with those big blue eyes,he is just so precious. Sweet post sweet time I know. Such memories
Martha looks EXACTLY like I knew she would.
Law me, yes, I loves me some Mini-Me…oh, it’s like looking in the mirror! It’s like looking in the mirror! The mirror! :)
P.S. Martha and Sissie both looked beautiful today. I’m so happy the luncheon was on Beauty Parlor Day.
xo,
Patchy-patch with some beady-beads! :-) We actually gave it to her for Christmas. And of course we had to wait for them to get home from the beauty parlor before we could leave for lunch…and as D said, the ice cream cones atop their heads were in fine form.
And I guess you saw your Mini-Me in that picture with Sissie. LAW have mercy.
Alex is such a beautiful boy. Yes, boys are beautiful.
All I know is my grandma is beautiful like that, and is her best and brightest after her hair has been fixed up the way she likes it, and I hope I look just like her when I’m 85+
I’m leaving my comments to all four of your posts that I missed yesterday here–just in case you’re not neurotic like me and go back and check to see if anybody ever leaves you new comments on old posts:)
First of all, FORTY-SIX comments? All on the pickle post? Wow, you should post about fireworks and “pickles” more often!!
Second, Mac’s surgery? That’s the same one Addison will be having. And although it’s not in the same league as a heart transplant, it’s still open-heart surgery, and that’s just downright scary for a mama. So you give Lea Margaret a hug from me, okay?
:)
Wow, those ladies got it right. They look like my Grams with their powder-white skin with NO wrinkles. My Grams would say the same…it’s not the moisturizer it’s staying out of the sun – plain and simple!
And, A. of course will be a heartbreaker w/o a doubt.
Absolutely gorgeous ladies! 95?!!
I can only wish! And your boy has the most biggest, bluest eyes ever. The girls are gonna go nuts!!
You guys make my day ~ all of you. Enjoyed your post, the pictures, the comments, the story on Boomama. Ya’ll are sooo fun!
Thank you so much for the prayers for my little Mac. We are so grateful to all of you who have lifted him up in your thoughts and prayers and we have found so much strength in that. As Boomama told yall in the update, we have had to reschedule his surgery for this coming Friday the 14th. (Our doctor was called in at 2am to perform a heart transplant.) Please continue to keep Mac in your prayers this week but also remember the families who have just lost a loved one and the family who might be gaining a life back. God bless you all!
Hi, Boomama. I tagged you over at my site if you have the time & inclination to play Saturday’s ABC’s. Hope so.
They’re beautiful! I hope I’ll look that good when I’m…when I’m…o.k., I wish my countenance (and skin and coifed hair, etc) shone that beautifully NOW!
Awesome pictures! Thank you for sharing!
