The Afternoon Announcements

1) GiBee at Kisses of Sunshine has started a great new way for all of us to recognize excellence in blogging. If you’ve ever read a post and thought, “Gosh, that was dead on,” or “Oh. I fear I just wet my pants,” or “Hmmmm…that was flat-out excellent,” then you need to let GiBee know about it. She will periodically be handing out Awards of Excellence, and I think it’s a wonderful idea because 1) it’s encouraging, just as GiBee is and 2) it can spotlight some lesser-known blogs that have great content.

So the next time you run across an outstanding post or a great blog in general, let GiBee know about it. The guidelines for the awards are on her blog.

And even if you don’t have a nomination, stop by GiBee’s anyway – she’s a hoot. :-)

2) Because it’s never too early to start planning for Christmas, and because it’s so burning up hot that it does me some good to think about cold weather, I want to let y’all know that the BooMama Holiday Tour of Homes will be Friday, December 15, 2006. I still have to do a sidebar button (I don’t think that it’s necessary to have one yet since it’s, you know, AUGUST and all), but I know that we women like to plan ahead and get things penciled in on our calendars and allot plenty of time for the task at hand. So you have a little over four months to get ready. I think that should be fair warning. :-)

Also, if you have any suggestions for what pictures we can feature this time, please let me know…I think the tree is pretty much a given, but I’m open to whatever suggestions you might have.

And I’ll go ahead and put this bit-o-information out there: please pretty please don’t use my humble little blog to generate traffic to yours unless you’re a person who sincerely wants to participate by sharing your home with us.

3) It occurred to me today that we are getting very, very close to football season. And that I’ve never blogged during football season before. And that I may drive you crazy with all my talk of football because I. LOVE. IT. Are any of you college football fans, perchance? And if you are, what’s your favorite team?

Me? My favorite team?

Go ‘Dogs. :-)

  1. I am a huge football fan, too. I love it all. I think it is the biggest reason why my husband married me. :)

    Hook ’em Horns!

  2. Not a big football fan. But Fall is starting to be my favorite season. I like to decorate the yard with hay, pumpkins, scarecrow, and so on. I like all the festivals that most churches and schools are doing now.
Christmas idea- I think the front door could stay. Most of us put up a wreath.
I may still be a little silly for the home tour. But, I will try to behave this time. Promise. :>))

  3. Lea Margaret says:

Oh I just can’t wait to read Boomama’s take on our beloved Bulldogs! We are getting fired up in the McLaurin/Hamilton household! Mac knows every word to every cheer and can ring his cowbell as loud as anyone at Scott Field! Can you say, “We’ve got some Dogs up in here!”?

  4. I have recently started reading your blog. I wanted to let you know that I really enjoy reading it. I absolutely love football. College football is my favorite, GO GATORS!, but I also enjoy NFL. Keep up the great work on your blog. I hope to start my own soon.

  5. Definitely the tree. I think an outdoor shot at night would be nice. Lots of us have lights and yard things. Why, I’ve been known to put a lighted pink flamingo in my yard. It’s missing. I have no idea where it went. Packed it away one year and the next, it was gone. Hmmmm.

Maybe front doors? Lots of us put a wreath or something there.

And football. Please tell me you follow pro. If you don’t, may I recommend the Broncos?

Hooray – a bloggity Christmas tour!

  6. Oh, yes, looking forward to football season, (go SEC!) and to watching my team kick your team’s hiney on November 18th. ;)

  7. Go Jacksonville Jaguars and Go Arizona Wildcats (college).

    ARE YOU READY FOR SOME F O O T B A L L!!!!

Oh and I have to say go Knights, that is the team my boys are playing on.

Christmas thing: tree, and outside decorations if done.

  8. My Husband and his family are HUGE San Diego Charger Fans. I am a Huge Univ of Texas Fan so I too am counting down to football. Plus the weather is cooler and football season means Christmas is coming. Oh I am getting giddy just thinking about it!

  9. Yes, I will be watching America’s Team. Ahem. =)

  10. GO DAWGS! Amen! I’m so excited about football season too. I’m always glad when September arrives because it means that there is finally something on TV worth watching on Saturdays!

  11. I’m a bulldogs fan, too, but my team is of the Georgia variety. Go Dawgs!

I also happen to be a Hogs fan, having been born and raised in Arkansas. Whooo PIG Sooiee!

Incidentally, the only game I make it a point to watch is Georgia vs Arkansas. It’s a sure win either way. :-)

As for the Christmas tour, definitely the tree, outdoor lights, and the front door.

  12. Football…my FAVORITE sport! We have season tix to my alma mater…UVA (Go Wahoos!) I live for those weekends! 4 weeks til kickoff!

Pro – Steelers. And I promise, I didn’t hop on the bandwagon. But it was wonderful when they drafted my fellow alum Heath Miller! I also like the NY Giants because they have Tiki Barber (another fellow alum).

Can’t wait for the Christmas tour! Especially since I didn’t get to participate in the first one. Darn Blogger!

  13. 2 words:
HAIL STATE! (that’s “Go Dawgs” for you UM fans). :)
    xo,

  14. I am in the Christmas countdown already ! LOL. I know with holidays and birthdays it is just around the corner for me.
I am so excited about a Christmas tour of homes. We LOVE Christmas here, the kids have so much fun. Every year decorations go up a little earlier and earlier. I have given up notions of a uniform, perfectly decorated tree, the kids love redecotating it, everyday! This year it will be the first year where we don’t have a playpen around the tree to keep the little one away.
I can’t wait for the next tour of homes. I want to see what a “cold Christmas” looks like, as here in Queensland it will be stinkin hot.
I am 3/4 of they way through the 1st tour of homes, I have enjoyed it immensely. It was a fantastic idea, thankyou greatly for organising it.

  15. Hey Boomama! Do you know how to put the fight song on your cell phone?

  16. Life-long Seahawks fan here – through the good and the bad. Have to be – I’m from Washington state! Still trying to get over the disappointment of Super Bowl. But I won’t hold it against Melissa, I promise! ;)

  17. I didnt get to participate in the tour of homes….i got busy and well…my blog was new and didnt really know what all I was doing…but I will be there for the Holida Tour of homes…….I’m looking forward to it……you may try to add the front of your home decorated or the door with the wreath…that may be a good suggestion the tree of course is a given……looking forward to it….your a great blogger…I always look forward to reading you.
    Jen

  18. Hook em Horns! National Champions, part two…

  19. I am a huge college football fan! Cut me and I bleed orange — Go Vols! ;) I also like the Memphis Tigers, but my heart is with UT.

  20. We bleed scarlet and grey at our house which happen to be the color’s of the #1 team in the nation right now…Ohio State Buckeyes!! Sorry, that was for my husband. I happen to cheer for Penn State or Purdue. Nevertheless, we are a Big 10 family.

Looking forward to the Holiday Tour. I wasn’t able to participate in the last one, but I really enjoyed seeing everyone’s home.

BooMama, thanks for making me laugh every day. I really needed to laugh last week.

  21. Big Mac –

Hubby just set the fight song as my ringtone about 10 minutes ago.

It’s going to drive all the Bama and Auburn fans around here CRAZY. :-)

  22. Just a few thoughts…
Furman University football…GO PALADINS! I can’t wait for cooler weather, leaves changing colors, and ummmm…cooler weather.

Holiday Tour of Homes…I’m looking forward to participating. Although I viewed all of the Original TOH, I did not feel comfortable yet to put my own home up there. But, I can’t wait for the Holiday tour. Ideas for pics…how about mantle and/or stockings, nativity, most decorated room, trees, yard. I LOVE Christmas, so I would love to see it all!

  23. Well!!! Brenda trumped me, but as official Hog Caller for BooMama’s Blog…..(a-HEM)

    Wooooooo PIG……SOOIE!!!

I think my team plays your team this year…I’ll have to go look at the schedule. :-)

  24. Yes I read about Gibee’s great new idea the other day on her blog. just wonderful!

and as for Christmas – I am up for it too!

bot football?!?! ya – not me. i am Canadian and I used to be a huge hockey fan, but now I only watch when my husband is. And I love figure skating. What can I say – I am Canadian eh?

  25. Boomama, I love me some college football, in fact yesterday I was thinking only 2 more Saturdays until kickoff.

I’m a Texas Aggie (Gig’em Ags!) so I always cheer for MSU too because of the Jackie Sherrill connection. He put A&M on the football map so we owe him a debt of gratitude. In fact, I wish maybe we had him back instead of someone that we stole from Alabama. That’s a whole ‘nother subject!

  26. Boomama,

    ROLL TIDE ROLL!!

How do you reside in this great state and not pull for um?

Okay – I do cheer for them just a little bit, because a couple of guys I used to teach are on the team. After I had A. I went back to school for one of their signing day ceremonies, and I have the cutest pictures of the little man with the two of them (we were looking at them last night, in fact). So I definitely keep up with the Tide…but I bleed maroon and white. :-)

  27. Love Miriams ideas for Holiday tour of homes. And outdoor ligths and front door of course! I’m finally catching on about “how to do” some things so by then maybe I’ll be ready!

Football. . .um that’s the one with the ball shaped like an egg or so right? hhm, I do make a point to watch the Super Bowl each year, does this count at all?

But you all go right ahead and enjoy, I’ll be at the mall enjoying the thinned out crowds.

  28. We are big Nebraska Cornhusker fans in our family! I enjoy watching football. But, honestly, I enjoy “football food” nearly as much as a good game. Chili, chips-n-dip, crackers-n-cheese, and whatever yummy fare sounds good for the day. Oh, and football season means that fall weather is coming and I LOVE the crisp air of fall!

  29. Football is always good….and I just have to say it…..

    Roll Tide!!

  30. Football? Eww… That’s the time when I’m always tempted to toss the TV out of the house…

The Christmas tour… I missed the first tour of homes, and I think I’ll miss this one, too, since in Finland we don’t really decorate until maybe Dec 22nd. In my house not until Dec 24th – before that everything is a serious mess! *grin* But I’ll be browsing the ones who post their pics :)

  31. I am totally addicted to Australian Rules Football, each weekend I go to my team’s game, watch a number of games on tv and usually listen to one on the radio while I’m doing the ironing. When the season ends (late September), I go into a mini depression. So it’s GREAT to see there are other women who like their football too! As for the Holiday Tour of Homes, I’m still recuperating from the one we’ve just had and am feeling a bit “southernised”!

  32. Go Dawgs! (The MSU kind – not UGA of where we now reside.) It’s about time to open up the windows and open the back door. Listen to the leaves fall and the cowbells ring. I can’t tell you how many times we have thought about turning the cable off and tossing the tv, but then remember, football. And we just can’t bring ourselves to do it then.

  33. Well football’s not really my thing. But I do love the Fall. I can’t wait to participate in the Holiday tour of homes!! We didn’t decorate last year, due to us being out of town for Christmas. I am looking forward to it this year.

  34. I’m with Barb (sort of literally actually….)a front door shot, or outside shot, and maybe we could do our “collection” whether it’s santas or snowmen or nativity or whatever. Possible stockings for those that do them. Maybe show one Christmas treasure we have, whether it’s an old ornament, cookie plate, etc. ??? Sounds fun. Sounds cold, which right now sounds fun.

  35. Love Christmas, but football, not so much. I do sort of keep up with the Aggies (gig ’em!!)…..but just because my family does….not that I don’t love them, but I get bored sitting watching for so long.
And if we could have some posting photos remedial classes, I’d love to do the BCT…bloggy Christmas tour! And I like the idea of a special Christmas treasure…I could show y’all the Nativity scene we made with ds#1 when we were in grad school….pretty special.

  36. Football, that something with 11 blokies running around with a ball or something. Though I think my idea of football and the US idea of football might be two different games.
Either game, I am the least sport minded person you will ever meet.
Um christmas tree up at 15 Dec, that’s early then this year.

    “christmas tree up”
    “christmas tree with kittens”
“christmas tree with kittens playing fairy”
“christmas tree on floor with smashed baubles”

think that should do it then! :)

  37. my favorite team is U of M. They rock.

  38. HAIL STATE!

We Got Some Dogs Up In Here!

    Alabamaian by geography, and
Mississippi State Bulldog by the Grace of God!

  39. I live for fall and football! We are NFL junkies. Go Packers. This may be a huge season for us since it will be Brett’s last one! I am so excited about the Christmas tour of homes.

  40. Great idea. I do my Blog of the Week not by nominations, although I’m open to considering nominations, but mainly by stumbling across blogs that catch my interest. I’ve done blogs that are just starting, blogs that have been around a while, and everything in between. I really enjoy highlighting blogs!

  41. Boomama, I knew that I met a kindred spirit with you. Not only are you a Southernuh, you love football, too. This is going to make for a BEAUTIFUL friendship. And I just love watching football – college or professional. There’s a game; I’m watching. Oh, and pass the potato skins, would ya?

  42. WAR EAGLE! I couldn’t let it go by without loving on the Tigers!

  43. I’ll be snuggled up, all tucked in my bed with visions of the HOLIDAY TOUR OF HOMES only four months away! Go Bucs!

  44. We are a Carolina Panthers watchin’ family and I love it too :)

Looking forward to the holiday tour….

  45. Well Boo, I’m not much of a college fan (please no hate mail) but now if were talkin’ the pros I’m LOVE FOOTBALL. I was just thinkin’ of a post about today! But if were talking pros, I’m talkin’ about ‘The Boys!” Oh and of course a shout out to my hometown the Dawg Pound!

Christmas Tour – I think outside lights pic if it’s decorated. And how about your favorite xmas tradition? It may not include a pic but it would be fun. Or a family xmas pic would be cute too (you know outside in the snow, around the fireplace, whatever.) Just a thought…

  46. Well, this is simple. I went to State and I live in Starkville. We usually buy season tickets but didn’t this year because my son is playing on a travel baseball team and it may conflict too much. Can you even imagine? Anyway, Lord willing we will still get to attend a few games.
    Blessings,
    Trixi
Oh, and last but certainly not least,
    Go Dawgs!!!!!
