For the second time in three and a half years, I’m going to be Home Alone tonight.
I will pause so that you can whoop and clap as you celebrate with me.
Now because I am by nature a planner, and because I have checked everything off today’s to-do list (including my walking for Nancy’s challenge), and because I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well, I would like to share my lofty goals for the upcoming evening with you.
Thirteen Plans For My All-Alone Thursday Evening
1. I will not prepare any food substance that requires the use of the stove or oven.
2. I will, however, consume large quantities of sushi.
3. And homemade guacamole. Which I’ll be preparing as soon as I click “publish post.”
4. Oh! OH! And diet Coke. I’ll be drinking copious amounts of that delicious ice-cold cola beverage.
5. I will not be watching “Grey’s Anatomy.” Please don’t be offended. But a leopard can’t change her spots (side note: it took three attempts for me to get that colloquialism correct. First I typed “monkey can’t change her stripes,” then “leopard can’t change her stripes,” and finally I remembered that leopards have spots, so maybe what I really need to be doing tonight is trying to become, you know, smarter so that I don’t use expressions like “a monkey can’t change her stripes” and believe that it’s accurate).
6. Also, I will not be watching any programming that involves animated characters. In fact, I blame all the cartoons I watch for that embarrassing idiomatic gaffe in #5.
7. I will, however, flip the channel to Fox on occasion just so I can see promos for “American Idol” (side note #2: I am still trying to decide if I’m going to blog about every “AI” episode again this year. And since this decision is actually giving me pause, you can probably tell that I don’t have a whole lot going on right now in terms of extra-curricular activities. Except for cartoon-watching, of course).
8. I will be giving myself a pedicure.
9. I will be reading at least one issue of “In Touch” or “Us Weekly,” and at some point during my “reading” (oh, don’t kid yourselves: I’ll be looking at the big, colorful pictures), I will scrutinize the size of Nicole Richey’s legs and determine that yes, it’s true: my wrists are (considerably) bigger than her thighs. And then I will eat more guacamole.
10. I will fill a big glass with crushed ice and chomp on it to my heart’s content.
11. I will watch the Saturday Night Live with Justin Timberlake for the seventh or ninety-fifth time. I will cackle at the sketch where the Turrrget clerk talks about hulliday cayn-dals (that was for you, Big Mama and Gulley) as if I have never seen it before.
12. I will never let the computer leave my sight because why, why would I do that, why?
13. I will miss my family. But sleep like a log in that big ole bed all by myself.
See y’all tomorrow.

Yes, eating guacamole, surfing the net, and watching TV is a wonderful way to fill the long lonely night.
You had left me a comment on a book review I did a few weeks ago asking for book recommendations since I actually found time to read. I don’t know if you were serious, but I just posted about some stuff I loved and some stuff I’m going to be reading in ’07 right HERE.
Lucky duck!!! Enjoy EVERYTHING, BooMama! TV-watching, guacamole-eating, and magazine-reading are great ways to spend a night ALONE!!!
Will you be eating any cheese bread with cheese sauce?
Also, you know there’s a new Office on tonight. When we last saw Dwight Schrute he was hurling his cell phone off the top of the Dunder Mifflin building because his mission had been compromised.
Enjoy your glorious evening alone.
I couldn’t plan a more divine evening if I tried! Oh, that guacamole sounds wonderful. And you don’t even have to share. Sigh….
I’ll be over in about ten minutes with red nail polish and ice cream, m’kay? ;)
Sounds like a fabulous evening!!! I think I would add one more to the list… Bubble bath.
Ahhhhh sounds like a dream evening to me!
Enjoy yourself! You deserve it!

Oh you lucky girl! What I wouldn’t give for one quiet night by myself (of course my kids are beating each other as I type this, so I am REALLY jealous). Enjoy yourself and savor the peace.
OH, you lucky dog, you! You know that there are tens of us out here that are completely filled with jealousy at the thought of an entire night, and I mean NIGHT by yourself! How did you swing this one? Have a wonderful time!
Oh my, I don’t think I’ve ever had a night at home ALL ALONE since I gave birth. I try though. I lock them out and turn out the lights and get really quiet. But they always find a way in. Enjoy your evening. It sounds like heaven on earth. Except for the sushi. That just sounds fishy.
Jealous, I am green with envy -j.e.a.l.o.u.s.!!
Have fun and make sure you tell us ALL about it!
JEALOUS here…Enjoy!
Enjoy all 13 :)
Have a great time, Boomama!
I am still remembering the thrill of it all when the girls went with their daddy camping this past summer! ;)
I was craving Diet Coke today. I’ve quit buying diet sodas for myself….that way I can’t drink them. The Chicken Selects I eat when I have to have the Diet Coke far outweight any health benefit of consuming the caffeine and artificial sweetners. I do, however, still eat guacamole. If I were joining you, you would have to make a double batch. I’ll bring extra chips.
WOW…….enjoy, Boo!
May your evening alone be all that you planned for, better than you hoped for, and unusually long.
Oh YEA FOR YOU!!!!!!!!! The luxury of an entire evening spread before you with no only yourself to entertain–that’s better than ANY vacation AWAY from your home.
All alone? Well, I sure hope you have a super evening alone! (I’m just a tad jealous!) :)
Enjoy yourself and have some guac for me!
I remember wishing for days like this but the only time I was away from my family was when I was in the hospital having another baby.
those striped monkeys – they need a change of clothes :)
sushi!!!!!!!! mmmmmmmmmmm
Mary
I vote YES on the AI commentary… :)
Hope your pedicure includes a GREAT color nail polish…as long as it doesn’t clash with all that guacamole!
I remember nights like this, all three kids gone…I would just sit and stare for a while, taking in the lack of noise and stillness. And I would always stay up too late, not wanting to trade the alone time for sleep time.
ENJOY!
I’m alone tonight too – oh the bliss of it. It hasnt been quite as long for me, but long enough to throw me into a tizzy so I didnt know what to do first. I made ants on a log (sorry – a favorite of mine) to eat in bed but they never made it up the stairs. I’m about to pile in with books, journals, yes diet coke of course, and not set the clock so I can sleep til the dog starts tapping his nails on the hardwood floor telling me he cant wait another second to go outside. Thats when I’m getting up, and my dinner – Burger King as I was driving home at 9 pm. No way would I ever ever cook when theres no male in the house expecting it. Hope you enjoy your slumber party for one as much as I plan to. xoxo
You HAVE to live blog AI. I insist, really. Here’s a compromise…you don’t have to start live blogging until it gets down to the finalists (20 or whatever they do). Deal?
Good for you!! I hope you had a great evening.
PS
I am addicted to my homemade guac too…here’s an idea for you to try — add a packet of Goya Sazon Con Culantro Y Achiote (Coriander and Annatto) [in the orange box] to your guac and let me know what you think!
What a blessing! A night to do anything your little Southern heart wants to! Enjoy!
OH!!
OH!!!
OH!!!!
YOU LIKE SUSHI!!!!!
A kindred spirit if ever there was one!!!
Sounds fun…okay, but we would love to have your guacamole recipe! Please?
Kristi
Guacamole!! YUMMY!!! My hubby doesn’t really like it, but I could consume it like crazy! ;) The best, and cheese dip too!!!
HAHAHA!!! I love that Turrrget lady! That was sooo funny. :)
Hope you had a great night!
Sonja
Sounds like a pretty darn good evening to me! Hope you enjoyed every bit.
BTW, when I make guacamole, I prefer to eat the entire thing but my silly husband always wants some. Good idea to make it when no ones around :)
Good for you! Don’t you just love being home all alone in your own house. It’s such a treat! You’re menu is divine too!
My Hubby makes sushi. Yep. Every Friday Night!
When did you start eating sushi?
