Our DVR did not record American Idol tonight.
I have no words.
So while I’m fighting the urge to call our local cable company and tell them in the nicest possible way that I despise their faulty TiFaux technology with the fury of a thousand white-hot suns, could y’all please give me a run-down of tonight’s show – THE ONE THAT I DIDN’T GET TO SEE – in my comments?
I’d be ever-so-grateful.

I only saw a little bit of it, but Chris was great! He sang “We all want to be Loved”, which I can’t remember if that’s a Third Day song or DC Talk. Or maybe neither. But the judges weren’t really impressed with ANY of the guys and said that only 4 deserved to go on. Simon said that Chris was the best of the night. Hope that helps some!
Hi there. I don’t watch it! Sorry, but love your blog!
God works in mysterious ways. You know that I never watch this show until the final 4 or 5. However, tonight I saw the last 6 performances. They were mediocre. Chris Sligh was the best. The judges were disappointed with the whole evening.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. :)
Oh dear! God has blessed you! You did not miss a thing. I watched the whole cotton-pickin’ show & was not impressed by anyone. I personally think Brandon was the best tonight, but Simon was rude to him again and told him “he was worried for him”… whatever. Chris S. was good, though.
Phil looked like Powder & sang a LeAnn Rimes song that was so terribly creepy.
Jared just needs to hush and model some Calvin Klein.
That’s pretty much my take on the night… for what its worth.
The only guy who showed up was Chris Sligh! It wasn’t even his best, but the best of the night. Still, Sanjaya had better go or I’m gonna have flash backs to Bucky Covington from last year. You really didn’t miss ANYTHING!
I also did not get to see the whole show, but I did see the rundown at the end and was pretty unimpressed. Chris Sligh was great though. I do think he probably needs to choose a more “popular” song soon (sort of like the Seal song he sang for his audition) that still really showcases his vocal talent in order to “solidify” his voting base (oh my Lordy, I am taking this too seriously). I only saw a brief clip of Sanjaya, but if he does not go this week…there is just no justice in this world. And I usually try to refrain from criticizing appearances, but Sanjaya’s hair, which he had straightened, really caused me some distress. Also, Phil, whom I usually like, had on a hat that truly makes me worried for him and his chances for next week. I know it’s a SINGING competition, but you just cannot go on worldwide tv wearing a hat that makes your ears stick out like that. All this rambling to say…you didn’t miss much.
Have I told you lately how much I love you? well, now that I’ve gotten that over with…I can tell you, ya didn’t miss much. atall.
Like everyone else has said, Mr. Big did well…but the rest were mediocre. Oh, except Beat boxer….I really liked him. Again.
The judges did say they believe only 4 of the guys should be allowed in the top 10..but they didn’t say whom.
I can’t wait for tomorrow night…I hope Melinda brings it again…man that girl can sing.
Rest tonight, knowing you didn’t miss anything earth shattering… Even Seacrest’s lines were less than funny.
Sleep tight.
i like your blog! if the 6 comments above haven’t convinced you, let me echo…you did not miss a thing! Chris S. was the only one worth mentioning (and I thought he was incredible, the judges, not so much) It will be fun to watch the girls shine after a night like this!
You missed Sundance brutalizing Pearl Jam and Sanjaya doing things to a John Mayer song that should not be done.
Chris Sligh and Blake Lewis were the best of the night. Oh, and the Justin Timberlake guy, Chris Richards? He was okay, too.
All that’s been said pretty much sums it up, you didn’t miss too much at all. Chris Sligh was the best but the judges were not enthused over anyone and they didn’t say which 4 it should be just that 4 deserved to go; except Simon said it should be 3 1/2. Blake was ok too.
Sanjaya needs to go home!
I’m betting the girls will bring it.
Interesting thing I read online today said that all the contestants this year were missing the “it” factor.
I always enjoy the video clips they play before they actually perform. Tonight’s theme was to tell America something about themselves that we would be surprised to learn. I wanted to throw up when Sanjaya announced that he learned how to hula dance when he lived in Hawaii for 4 years. Then, he proceeded to show us his technique. Ugh! Way too feminine for me thank you very much. He has got to be the next “guy” to be voted off!
I LURVED Blake and Chris R. Sanjaya and Phil were horrible. The others were okay. Chris Sligh was ok vocally, but the song I didn’t like. Chris R. sung Keith Urbans’ tonight I wanna cry….hubby even said he done better than Keith. It was great and Blake was great as always.
Of course, they’ll highlight it tomorrow night, and again on Thursday. If you just hafta hafta know, though, check out http://www.tv.com/american-idol/top-8-boys-compete/episode/992467/recap.html any time after 9pm PST. They do a decent recap, but they don’t post until after the show airs on the West Coast.
If you don’t want to wait, here’s my take:
Blake sang some hip-hop/reggae thing that I didn’t understand, but he’s cute and he sings good.
Randy, Paula and Simon liked it.
Sanjaya suffered an unfortunate lapse of good sense and let someone beat him about his head with a flatiron. He looks like Antonella. He sang some song that might be called “Waiting on the World to Change” if the number of times he sang that phrase is any indication
Randy didn’t like it, Paula was her usual encouraging self, Simon was shocked by the hair, and pronounced the performance “noht ahs ghahstly ahs lahst week.”
Sundance had a fauxhawk (not a good look), and yelled some unintelligible stuff about “daddy didn’t get attention” (take that with a grain of salt and remember that it comes from the girl who thinks “the ants are my friends, they’re blowin’ in the wind”, perhaps not the best lyrics guesser).
Randy liked the Southern Rock meets PearlJam, Paula liked it, Simon “didn’t get thaht atall, sorry.”
Travis Tritt was in the audience. He’s cute. I’m just sayin’.
Chris Richardson sang some boy-band-ish-sounding song, and he sounded good. Low key ballad thing.
Randy liked it, Paula liked it, Simon said it was good and “cutesy”, a little “nasaly”.
Jared did “If You Really Love Me”. I was so happy to hear a song I knew. He didn’t stink, and I thought he looked a little like the snobby cousin on Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Randy thought it was a solid performance. Paula said he needed to “color up the way you sing.” Simon said it wasn’t very original.
Ellen DeGeneres commercial. She’s funny.
Brandon sang “I Just Want to Celebrate”, and I thought he rocked it. He’s really comfortable on stage.
Randy thought it was a good choice. Paula thought it was phenominal. Simon is nervous for him.
Phil’s song started out way too low for him. He sang “I Need You” (I think that’s the name). He looked a little weird, but once he got out of the lower register, the singing was not too bad.
Randy said the low notes were weird, but it was alright. Paula didn’t think it was his best. Simon was distracted by his hat and his eyes.
Chris Sligh sang “We All Want to be Loved” and it was good. He was just like you’d expect him to be. One of the strongest singers and most natural on stage. And, of course, I’m pretty sure we’re related — how many people get blessed w/that kind of hair?
Randy said it wasn’t stellar, but that Chris got the vocal prize. It wasn’t Paula’s favorite performance. Simon liked the beginning, but not the shouting in the middle.
Now, aren’t you sorry you asked?
Ditto Lynn above. Sanjaya’s hula was a little too much for me. Actually, the whole show was a major disappointment! Chris was the best by far, but not his best tonight. Blake did ok, too. Hope tomorrow’s better!
wehavefansites dot com…you got me hooked to this show! and I can’t even watch it normally! But I get to hear (most of) them sing from the videos they put up on their sites….and youtube.
My hubby said “Mowgli is on his way back to the jungle.” I’m afraid I agree. He’s adorable, but he’s too young. I had no idea the song he sang was John Mayer.
Sundance was a disappointment, but PRAISE the LORD, his chin didn’t look like a Chia pet for once.
Chris (Fro Patrol) was ON tonight, and Blake was good. The rest were just so-so. The judges seemed most impressed with Chris R., which I totally don’t get. Do we really need another New Kid on the Block?
Everyone said it all. Y’all didn’t miss a thing!! It truly was a very bad night. I really like Blake and although I didn’t know the song, I was totally interested and thought it was different. Chris Sligh song didn’t grab me at all. Sajaya makes me vomit a little bit in my mouth. I can’t watch him. Chris (Justin Timberlake dude) was just ok. He could have done a lot better.
You didn’t miss much. I did a pretty thorough post about it on my li’l blog, if you wanna check it out! Chris Sligh didn’t let you down, you would have been proud!
You got all the scoop, without the painful part of watching it all. I was feeling bad last night, so I watched the whole thing–didn’t make me feel ANY better. Summed up mighty fine from your internets my friend. Besides, you’ll see the recap on Thursday I’m sure, and hopefully they’ll glide thru all the worst parts…..Sanjaya will have to go home, and ? on the second guy to get cut.
Maybe it’s because I’m still bitter that AJ was sent home instead of Sanjaya, but last night was simply awful. I kept telling my husband that maybe there was something wrong with the monitors and maybe the guys couldn’t hear the music or something. Almost every single one of them sounded really off and it seemed unusual for some of my favorites – Chris R., Phil, etc. Maybe they were all bummed AJ got sent home. You didn’t miss much. Chris Sligh was the best out of the group, but even he didn’t get great remarks from the judges. I’m hoping the girls are better tonight so I don’t waste another hour of turning down my volume so as to not hear painfully off key singing.
there was this guy who sang. Then Simon was all “I’d rather hear a cat fight than listen to another note out of your mouth.” Paula was all “you are so rude, simon.”
then someone else sang. and simon was all “You sound worse than fingernails on a chalk board.” Paul hit him.
another person sang and the other guy was like “you got it goin’ on, dawg.”
but that’s all I know.
Okay, am I being obnoxious? Because I really do feel bad that you missed AI. I hope you can find someone who TiVoed it.
I had to tape it last night so I’ll be watching it today and doing my contestant by contestant review later today on my blog. Do you have a friend who could let you borrow her tape? Do you need me to mail you a copy of mine after I watch it? I so understand your need to see it for yourself! Let me know if I can be of this vital service to you!
You didn’t miss much. The boys were very boring again. If they sent all the boys but Blake, the two Chrises (huh?) and Phil home, I’d be okay with that. Maybe I’d keep Sundance. But his name still bugs me.
They should do a little review at the beginning of tonight and that’s all yu need to get caught up. I fastforwarded through most of it.
Clemntine—HILARIOUS!! I had the exact thought about our boy Jared. Looking too much like Fresh Prince’s cousin with that big smile and those dance-like moves. Chris Sligh still a fav.
Okay–ya’ll are totally crackin’ me up. I have tried to watch Idol–really–just ’cause you make it sound so fun. . .but it’s like the Olympics. I get all nervous for the ones I like, and if they screw up or don’t do well or whatever, I just feel so badly for them. . .so I’ll stick with reading your take–though Melinda and Lakisha are really, really good.
Well that just stinks that the TiFaux didnt work! Fortunately for you it wasnt that great! Ive done a post on my blog! Check it out! Im praying that the DVR works tonight because there is just nothing like a Boomama recap!
I like Phil but my whole family and I thought he looked creepy. My hubby really wanted him to ditch the hat.
I still like both Chrises (is that ok for Chris in plural?) : ) and Blake. Sanyaha got a new look. Seeing him hula was rather scary too.
Reading some of these comments have made me laugh out loud! Y’all really are funny…and Belinda’s husband is funny with his “Mowgli” comment. What a way to start the day…with a good laugh. I think everyone else covered it pretty well. I don’t think anyone had memorable performances other than Chris Sligh and he did very well. I liked his humble attitude when the judges were making their comments. That says a lot about a person. I did miss Sundance though… was doing some “chef” duties so can’t really comment on him. My hubby couldn’t get past Jarod’s vest and Phil’s hat. I thought the whole Sanjaya hula thing was a little different. When it was over I told the people in my living room he shouldn’t have shared that! :)
My DVR didn’t record it either!! This is the second time it has dropped the Tuesday night recording this season. You’d better check your “scheduled recordings” because mine is only showing Wednesday’s show, not Thursday’s and I can’t seem to get it to say it will record!
Sometimes someone will post the final clips that they show at the end when they are posting everyone’s phone numbers on the web. I’ll go hunting and let you know if I find it anywhere.
With the exception of Chris Sligh, last night was quite possibly the most boring waste of an hour I’ve spent in front of my television in a long, long time. Trust me. You didn’t miss a thing. Except Chris.
I hope that somebody reads this, but I went to college with Phil. He used to be ALOT heavier, and had black hair, but the combination of baldness in his family + his stint in the navy… his hair has gone AWOL. He’s a good guy, and a very talented singer! I’m disappointed that the AI group isn’t investing more in the performers right now. Do you remember last year when, during the top 12, they had the opportunity to really be pushed by BIG-NAME talent? I hope they do that again, although, I think one of two folks may have gone home earlier because it’s not been done sooner.
Although Phil was not spectacular, I think it’s time for Sundance and Sanjaya to pack their bags and head to the hizzy.
Brandon plays classical music on the piano really well. His song was boring, he may go home.
Jarod was a good basketball player but quit to sing songs. He was not very memorable, he may go home.
Sanjaya thought we would be suprised to know that he hula dances, we were not suprised. He will go home.
Sundance was funny and said that he wears a fat suit on AI but he really is skinny in real life and only wears the fat suit so people don’t recognize him in public. Why he sang Pearl Jam, we don’t know.
Chris Sligh said his hair was real and not permed. He sang well and the judges were mean anyway.
Blake sang the 3-11 song “All mixed up, Don’t know what to do….” and my husband and I felt infinitely cool becasue we knew the song and apparantly nobody else in America did.
Chris said he used to be chubby and lost 40 pounds. He sang well. I like him.
Phil did look like Powder. He did not sing well. I was suprised because he usually sings well. It was wierdness.
There ya go!
Jamie :)
When I miss an episode I go to You Tube the next day. There is always someone who has posted the performances from the night before. I search for each person by name and then sort the results by date added.
Ya didn’t miss a thing.
Except for some good judges banter.
Girl you did not miss a thing. They were terrible, terrible, terrible. Chris S was the best. Brandon was better than last week, but still did not showcase his ability. Phil was weird. Sanjaya poor sweet little kid he just doesn’t have it. Sundance was OK again wrong song choise. If you held Chris R’s nose he could not sing a note. Blake was good, but his scatting capabilities are better than his voice. Jared picked the wrong song and am I this only one in the world who thinks that he looks like Carlton off of Fresh Prince?.
Have you ever heard of torrent files? If you go to http://www.mininova.org they have the latest TV Shows available to download. You will need to go to http://www.bitlord.com/download.php first and download that software in order for you to be able to download the torrent file. It is actually really nice. We use it all the time because we don’t have TiVo or DVR. It allows us to download the shows we want, and the best part is that the commercials are already edited out. The only downside is you can only watch them on your computer unless you have a DIVX capable DVD player. Ours will play DIVX so we just download the shows onto a DVD and watch it on our TV. Anyway, just thought I would let you know about it in case you wanted to download the latest episode of AI. If you have any questions. Just ask!
I haven’t watched it yet. I’ll have to go see if my DVR got it or not. Hope you got the info you needed though : )
Well, between Clementine and Jamie you are all set! They covered it marvelously! (I’ll have to make note of their blogs so that I know where to go in the event of another Ti-vo travesty!):)
I was irritated that the judges were so critical of Chris Sligh’s song selection, and was pleased when he replied that he knew it wasn’t well known, but that it was one of his favorite songs and he thought that the message is one that everyone can relate to. (DCTalk-We All Wanna Be Loved) My dh commented that he heard on the radio that 4 or 5 of the contestants are worship leaders at their churches, which I think is so cool, and in case you haven’t heard, Jordin was on tour with Michael W Smith during his Christmas tour. http://www.michaelwsmith.com/smittysblog.htm
Phil really messed up his song, and I hope he doesn’t get sent home because I really like him. I’m so tired of Sanjaya and I’m not a big Jared fan either. Those are the two I’d like to see go home!
I am with most of the other commenters…you did not miss a thing!
Chris was probably the best. (A song I had never heard but it was good.)
Phil did HORRIBLE!!!!! It was almost as if he wants to be voted off the show because he misses his new baby.
Also…love me some Blake! He is upbeat…”current”…and picks original songs.
Oh for the love of Pete they were baaaaad, there were only 4 who should even go into the top 12. You missed nothing in the guys. Now the girls you wont want to miss.
S, I think you can tell that you missed nothing last night. It was a waste of time. Clemntine’s comment is hilarious, though. Jordin did remind me of Carlton on Fresh Prince! I emailed you earlier in the week from my jam acct.
