COME ON, NOW!
Here we go.
Jordin Sparks – “Heartbreaker” – First, I love that she loves football. And I think this was a good song for her, but the arrangement wasn’t my favorite. Sometimes I heard the background singers more than I heard her; it seemed like she was fighting to sing louder than the band. But the a cappella part was incredible. That’s what I wanted to hear – because she has a great voice.
Sabrina Sloan – “What’s It Gonna Be” – Big ups for an En Vogue song. And I really liked the way the song started. It’s a little weird, because I recognize that she has a really good voice; but like D. said when we were watching, there’s some kind of “disconnect” there. Maybe she’s too rehearsed? I don’t know what it is. She just doesn’t have that something special that sets her apart from the other girls. In my humble opinion, of course.
Antonella Barba – “Put Your Records On” – You know what I really like? When Corinne Bailey Rae sings this song. I surely do.
Haley Scarnato – “If My Heart Had Wings” – She’s adorable. And if tonight I had been watching the Miss Arkansas pageant instead of AI, I would absolutely want her to win. Actually, her voice would be great for musical theatre; I’m just not sure that she’s a pop star.
Stephanie Edwards – “Crazy” – Okay. The low parts were rough. But she does the R&B genre well – and she’s been consistent every single week. And – did y’all notice? Another cute dress this week. The girl has style and a great voice, to boot.
LaKisha Jones – “I Have Nothing” – When I heard those opening notes, I immediately said, “OH, COME ON, NOW, and sing some Whitney for us.” And SING SHE DID. Good grief. What a gift she has. Also: really great hair this week. She’s the total package, so transparent and real. And I totally want to meet those two women who were cheering for her in the audience. Specifically, I want to go to church with those two women who were cheering for her in the audience. I have a distinct feeling that they’d holler “COME ON, NOW” right with me.
Gina Glocksen – “Call Me When You’re Sober” – Trying not to be bothered by the troll. Trying not to be bothered by the troll. As for her performance, it was a little loud for me, honestly, because I’m old. But I liked seeing her personality, and she seemed more comfortable on stage than she has at any other point so far. Plus, she’s really likeable.
Melinda Doolittle – “I’m A Woman” – Did anybody else want to get out a handkerchief and wave it in the air? Because I was about ready to shout “HALLELUJAH” by the end of her song. She is SO STINKIN’ GOOD. And I really, REALLY want to hear her sing “Oh, Happy Day” up in the church house. Soon. She gets bonus points, of course, for being OCD. Love her.
Who should go? – Antonella and Haley
Best of the night? – Melinda. No doubt about it.

I think I agree with every single thing you said! And I just LOOOOOVE it when the best performance of the night is the last one. THAT’S a show! I didn’t get to see the guys last night, but I hear it wasn’t anything to write home about, and since I’m home I wouldn’t write anyway. But these girls! I’m thinkin’ it’s gonna be quite a final between Melinda and Lakisha–can you imagine? WOW!
I agree with all that too…and LOVED Melinda! She was the best and I think she’ll do so good in the coming weeks.
Antonella and Haley are good picks to go, hope the voting goes that way!

I missed all but Melinda, and she was awesome.
The snippet at the end was all I cared to hear of Antonella. She should just hold the microphone for everybody else. Or, you know, go home.
If you find out where Lakisha’s Auntie and Mama go to church – can I carpool with you? While you’re at it find out where Melinda goes as well!!! I want both of them to be rich and famous!!!!
With all due respect (and remember I’m sayin’ with all due respect here) to the other contestants, don’t you think it would be best if they just maybe packed their bags and headed home and we just listened to LaKisha and Melinda duel it out for the next 12 weeks or so? Of course, I do love Chris Sligh…so maybe he can stay. He could be the buffer between the two ladies.

I agree with Tara. There really is no competition here, except between LaKisha and Melinda. And even with them, I think Melinda consistently comes out just a tiny bit ahead of LaKisha. Perhaps she has more training?
And Miss Arkansas!? I said the exact same thing, except I went on ahead and just put her right in the Miss America pageant.

You know what made me CRY last night? When Simon told Lakisha she looked beautiful! She DID! I liked Gina, Lakisha and, of course, Melinda. Jordin is just too cute and I hope she goes into the top 12 too.
I’m from Arkansas and I could totally see Haley shouting Woo Pig Sooie as her curtain call. She was even wearing red, so she was halfway there!
I’m just guessing that you were also raised with “if you can’t say something nice about someone don’t say anything at all.” Thank you for not writing ugly reviews about anyone.

Antonella and Hayley are beautiful girls but need to scram. They just don’t even compare to Lakisha and Melinda.
I have to say that I am starting to love Lakisha more and more and I get the sense that most people favor Melinda a bit more. I adore them both but Lakisha is kind of my favorite now I think. Melinda is so sweet but I would like to see her bring the “little tiger” out more when she is not singing, I am getting tired of the quiet mousey insecure Melinda. COME ON GIRL – show some pride in your talents!
