No detailed post tonight because I don’t have the benefit of TiFaux and am watching the show in “real time” while trying to also watch the Mississippi State / Florida State basketball game in the other room (LOUD WHISTLING FROM ME NOW), but here’s my condensed version:
Haley Scarnato – “Tell Him” – I thought she was adorable, but I hope she doesn’t buy into the notion that fewer clothes / shorter hemlines equals a better response from the judges. Though that certainly seems to be the message they’re sending her.
Chris Richardson – I was bored, but the judges seemed to like it.
Stephanie Edwards – Don’t know the name of the song because we were eating supper. And obviously her performance did not pull me away from the delicious pizza. So y’all will have to fill me in.
Blake Lewis – “The Season” – I was bored, but the judges seemed to like it, and I would probably like it more if I could rewind it and watch it again.
LaKisha Jones – “Diamonds Are Forever” – I think she is fantastic, but the song got in the way for me this week. I think it’s a song that’s only good with credits rolling.
Phil Stacey – “Tobacco Road” – Y’all, this performance made me nervous. Maybe it’s because I’m in “beach mode,” but it just felt all over the place to me. And I couldn’t understand the words, either – but I loved his enthusiasm.
Jordin Sparks – “I Who Have Nothing” – I thought she was incredible and I had chillbumps. LOVED IT.
Sanjaya Malakar – “You Really Got Me” – Somebody please make it stop.
Gina Glocksen – “Paint It Black” – It was very loud. But her hair was exceedingly and abundantly adorable.
Chris Sligh – “She’s Not There” – It was just a’ight for me, although the “FRO PATRO” sign cracked me up.
Melinda Doolittle – “As Long As He Needs Me” – I was a giant chillbump. Another incredible performance.
Who should go? – Sanjaya, FOR THE LOVE OF PETE.
Best of the night? – Melinda. Again.

I jumped on the bandwagon for the last hour-ish tonight. I loved loved loved Melinda. And Simon wanted to know if she was really that nice. I think she probably is. But, really, with a voice like that, you don’t have to be nice.
OOOHHHH – and I was first comment AGAIN!! WOO HOO! Maybe I’ll watch AI more often!
I pretty much agree with you, and definitely agree with you about Sanjaya. He should have been gone a long time ago. Sheesh!
Sanjaya…are you kidding me? For real? My head is going to pop off.
I can hardly even watch Sanjaya I just feel so bad for him. And what was up with the little girl crying!!!
We agree almost completely this week. And once more, I voted for everyone except Sanjaya. Once he’s gone, I can truly start actually voting for only the best.
You know, I think the crying little girl is exactly why Sanjaya may just be back next week unfortunately. I think he is pulling in some strong numbers with the middle school girl voting block. At least his hair was not so weird this week, right? I did like Blake this week, and, since I’m such the closet Material Girl, I was able to forgive Lakisha the fact that I didn’t love, love, love her song because of the fact that she was dripping with diamonds. And Melinda? Loved her! And I really liked her haircut too! Very cute and flattering for her.
I’m afraid that there are sobbing 13 year old girls all over the country calling to keep Sanjaya on the show, mainly because they aren’t old enough to know how good The Kinks are and how Sanjaya, with his flippy hair, did things to that song that should have never been done. What have The Kinks ever done to him?
Jordin…LOVE HER. Stephanie…not best dressed for the first week since it started. Melinda…if she doesn’t win, it’s a crime.
Oh, and while I’m going on and on, I’m in total agreement with the Lakisha assessment.
That little girl is going to KILL her mother in oh, about 10 years, for allowing all of that to be filmed. Oh my word. That poor little thing. And I do believe that Sanjaya will have the same exact sentiments about himself some day in the future.
I’m with you on all the others. I wish they would start giving Melinda TWO songs to sing each week. I almost hate when she’s finished, I want her to sing on and on.
I’m not sure what was up with the little girl crying…they kept showing her and it annoyed me for some reason. Speaking of annoying…I will admit to being a huge Sanjaya fan in the beginning but I can’t believe he’s still there. My whole family watches AI and after he sang I said, “I have a feeling my dad is throwing a bunch of stuff at the TV.” LOL
My favorites are Blake..I loved his song tonight and Melinda…I could listen to her all day!
Kelli
I love Melinda, but seriously people, Jordin Sparks for the win! Definately the best vocals tonight. This was not Melinda’s best performance for me dawg, in part because I LOVE LOVE LOVE the song she sang, and she changed it up a bit for the worse, I thought, although I thought she looked better than she ever has, and she is by far the MOST consistent!
My dear husband and I think Blake is the coolest!
But please, can we be freed from Sanjaya?!? STOP voting for him already, whoever you are! And stop running up the cell phone bills your parents are paying for! ENOUGH ALREADY!
I feel better now, hopefully I can fall asleep!
Have a great vacation!
Melinda awesome as always. I didn’t like the song choice for Lakisha. She sang it well, but it didn’t show her off. Now Jordin on the other hand. I was SO impressed with her tonight.
And my family had a new voting theory. We decided to try to vote for someone who we thought would be in the bottom 3, but would need more votes than Sanjaya. We would have voted for Phil, but we couldn’t get through.
My prediction for the bottome 3 are: Phil, Gina and Stephanie tomorrow.
I think we are all underestimating the powers of Sanjaya. I feel as though he will endure another week and we will all have to suffer YET AGAIN due to the crying 9 year old.
Jamie
My favorite tonight was Jordin.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think Chris R. resembles a monchichi?
Oh PLEASE let sanjaya go!! it was torture to my ears. i was crying because i wanted it to stop. Melinda is just the best!!
Love your comments! So brief, yet you captured each performance beautifully. Unlike my rambly, wordy post. Ahem. :-)
Hope you’re enjoying the beach!
…do y’all remember Chicken Little? America votes for the underdog… so do weeping girls…
Hope you are soaking up the rays and workin’ on that gift of yours.
Cheryl…from the belly of the whale…
I watched AI, and agree with the comments above…..Sanjaya, bad! Melinda, good!
Now about the most exciting part of the evening:
WE GOT SOME DAWGS UP IN HERE!
Nobody else seems to share our passion?!? I know it’s only the NIT, but at least we’re still playing. We’re going to New York, baby!!!
My weekly link to dialidol.com’s predictions:
http://www.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/Predictions.asp
I’ve been saying all along (based on my 6-year-old son’s worship of him) that the pre-teen set is going to carry Sanjaya into the Top 10, and I’m stickin’ to it.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to say:
HOLD ON, WAIT A MINUTE, GOTTA PUT SOME DAWG IN IT!
The Bulldogs spanked some Seminole hinney!
Hey, it may only be the NIT Final Four, but it’s still pretty cool.
I liked the “Bringning Chubby Back” sign. :o)
Sanjaya has got to go, it’s awful! That little girl was just too weird.
Love, love Melinda! And Jordin was awesome.
How bout them Dawgs! They so shoulda been in the NCAA tourney.
Maybe I am hardhearted, but the little girl crying just got on my last nerve. WHY did the cameras keeping panning to her? Oh brother. I loved last night’s show other than that though :) I left a linkie ;)
Yeah, that little girl was weird. I kept yelling at the tv that this wasn’t actually the british invasion. I haven’t seen anybody do that since I last watched a Beatles documentary.
And I will admit you’re totally rubbing off on me, Boomama. I couldn’t wait to come read your post. And yesterday I was looking at a US map with my three year old and when she pointed at Alabama and asked me to tell her something about it, I told her Boomama lives there. She looked very puzzled. :) A puma, mama? Like in Diego?
I.LOVE.BLAKE!!! He is so good. I thought the song was PERFECT for him and it sounded great!!! I thought a lot of people done well, although my girl Gina should have picked a better song.
If Sanjaya doesn’t go tonight I’m gonna SCREAM!!!!
LOL. I love your comments. I agree with them mostly. I thought Haley did better than she has but I didn’t care for the outfit. I think Chris did a good job but it wasn’t very engaging. Stephanie Edwards threw me for a loop because there was something wierd about it. She usually does SO.MUCH.BETTER… It was weird. I wasn’t sure how to feel about Blake’s performance at first but the more I watched it and after watching it again, it was cool. The fact that he took a song that is as old as it is, made it contemporary and believable and his own -successfully!- is amazing. Lakesha’s performance was mostly amazing and then awfully not at moments. I think like the judges said, the song was too old for her. Phil: not impressed. Jordin – AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! I have liked her all along, she has so much potential and she has amazing control. She just needs to be more consistent. SANJAYA: OH MY WORD. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Gina: I like Gina. I really do. I didn’t like that performance as much as I liked some in the past. She also hasn’t been consistently good. Chris: I was disappointed. I think he’s better than he sang. And again, Melinda was fantastic. I don’t enjoy watching her perform as much as I do some of the other contestants but MAN SHE CAN SING! Bottom three should be Sanjaya, Phil, and well, I can’t pick the third one… But the two best ones for me were Jordin and Melinda.
I’m soooooooooo mad at my husband! HE VOTED FOR SANJAYA! He thought he was awful but thinks the vote for the biggest loser is funny. I’m NOT happy with him and he knows it. You are so right, Sanjaya has got to go!
You’re spot on, as usual :)
BTW, what are chillbumps? Just kidding, we call them goosebumps or goosepimples up north :)
I really liked Chris Sligh last night. His voice is just SO good, I don’t pay as much attention to the performance part of the whole thing myself. But that crying girl was really irritating to me…and she cried for EVERYONE, not just Sanjaya. You had to watch carefully, but they showed her a few times during other singers’ performances, and she was crying just as hard…I just don’t get it. Maybe if Jesus showed up on stage I’d start bawling, but I don’t see any reason to cry over humans singing songs…not even ELVIS, and I do love me some Elvis!
I heard on the radio this morning that Howard Stern was promoting Sanjaya on his radio show. Something about proving the power of his listening audience. He says that if he gets his listeners to support Sanjaya they can make a “loser” win ????
Just what I heard and thought I’d pass it along.
We were laughing at the crying girl then I said “oh hubby maybe she’s not right, maybe she’s with the make a wish foundation or something”…but not. Just Sanjaya crazed….bless her heart. And our ears. xoxo melzie
Oh, would someone please tell Haley that she needs to wear a bra, even with a halter top?
I’m really not into AI this season, but the other night when it was on some guy (at least I think he was a guy?) was singing and a blond girl in the audience was just a cryin’ away, and they kept panning to her. So I said to my kids that she was acting crazy, like he was Michael Jackson or something. So my dd says “Mom, thats the girl who’s boyfriend was in AI and was killed two days ago!” I’m like “How do you KNOW that?!” DD and DS both start laughing at me! “Why are you laughing at me? How would I know that? I don’t have AI as my home page or have updates emailed to me or anything!” They keep laughing. And by now they are crying. “Why is that so funny! How would I know that?!”
Yes, I am gullible. She does that sort of stuff frequently. Like saying someone did something and I start yelling at them, while she sits there laughing and laughing.
