Tonight, apparently, we’re “celebrating the music of Bon Jovi.”
FOR AN HOUR?
Um, okay.
It’ll be fun, right?
Phil Stacey – “Blaze of Glory” – Hey, y’all? I think Phil may have found his perfect song. He got to start off loud and stay loud, and it worked beautifully for him – he even got knucks from Randy in the middle of the performance. I thought this was his best week so far – and again, I just love the confidence that we’re seeing from him. Great job.
Jordin Sparks – “Livin’ On A Prayer” – CAN I HAVE HER HAIR, PLEASE? I don’t know that this is the genre I’d pick for her, but given what she had to work with, I thought she did pretty well. And even if this wasn’t her best performance, I think she’s built up enough good will to stick around for another week.
LaKisha Jones – “This Ain’t A Love Song” – COME ON NOW, SISTER. For the first week in a long time, I feel like LaKisha took a song and made it her own. I’m proud of her and for her. I’ll be watching this performance over and over again.
Blake Lewis – “You Give Love A Bad Name” – If I have a favorite Bon Jovi song, this one is it. And while part of me wants to say “Okay, Blake – we get it. You’re different. We get it,” the other part of me just has to say: THAT WAS REALLY COOL. Loved it. And I think it could totally be a hit record right now.
Chris Richardson – “Wanted: Dead or Alive” – I’m a fan of the Chris. I enjoy him very much. But I just don’t think his voice was big enough to handle this song. It just felt like something by a cover band to me – nothing terribly original or outstanding. It was fine, don’t get me wrong – but I didn’t think it was great. And I think that, in order to stick around for another week, Chris needed to be great.
Melinda Doolittle – “Have A Nice Day” – Melinda said “Rock On” about as well as I do, which CRACKED ME UP. And y’all, she reminded me a little bit of Tina Turner tonight – and I loved seeing such a different side of her. I had wondered how she would fare when she had to sing something modern, and she did JUST FINE, thankyouverymuch. She was great – and fun, to boot.
Who should go? – I have no idea. Since votes carry over from last week, my guess is that LaKisha and Chris will be going home.
Best of the night? – Melinda. And Blake gets big originality points.
And surprisingly – at least to me – I think this was the best show since standards week. WHO KNEW?

Nice call on Chris and LaKisha going home. I picked them too.
I missed a ONE! WHOLE! HOUR! dedicated to Bon Jovi.
Darn date night. Darn :)
Blake was AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!! And I love love love love Bon Jovi. I didn’t really like Melinda’s rendition, or Lakisha’s. I agree that Phil had his best performance while Chris and Jordin were just AIGHT for me!!!
I voted for the first time tonight. For Phil. Granted, Melinda is still my favorite, but I thought Phil was awesome and my husband and I are worried that he might not have the votes to keep him. PLUS, who can resist the Navy Seamen in the audience next to the ever-faithful cute wife!
Blake was awesome too!
My KiKi can’t go.
I love Bon Jovi. I think they had to pick a “safe” rock band for this genre. They are certainly safer than Guns and Roses. :>)
Melinda was a hoot. My daugher said,”she’s going to Hollywood.” She has no idea she is ALREADY there.
MAN,BLAKE WAS AWESOME!! He is SOO the best!!
Phil is a no way!! PLZ DON’T win Phil!!!!!!
Loved Blake. Love love loved him.
Thanks for the early update for us west-coasters! Looking forward to Phil, Jordin and Melinda. Hope Chris goes home – too much like Justin Timberlake for me, and I still can’t figure out why he’s such a big star!
Surprisingly, I don’t really want anyone to leave; can’t we have the “2nd of 2 non-elimination rounds?” (Maybe I watch too much TV.
I too was worried how Melinda would pull it off, and girl did she ever! And this was Lakesha’s best performance in a while. I felt for Jordin. I love her, but this was not her week. Maybe last week was enough to save her. And I love Bon Jovi, so I was thrilled. But I’ll be at church tomorrow night so I’ll miss their performance. Why can’t they have the follow up show on Thursday? Oh well. And I think Phil has found his groove. Who knows who will go!
I think I am unhealth’ily attached to all of them at this point LOL (get a life melzie) xoxo melzie
I am really stepping out of the AI closet now. I actually posted on my blog about tonight’s episode. Go see.
woo hoo! that was fun… and i love me some blake!
Woo-hoo for Shake ‘n Blake! “That rocked,” my eight-year-old son informed me. And really, it did.
Can I just say that Phil’s wife looks like someone I want to have lunch with?
I bet Chris and Jordin go home.
I thought tonight was great. My favorite was Blake. My whole family thought he was AWESOME!
Love Melinda- I wouldn’t buy an album by Phil, Jordin or Blake-I probably would buy one from Lakisha and Melinda- Those girls just have it-and Chris is just so darn cute-
I realize, of course, that this is a singing competition, buuuutttt . . .
can I just say how absolutely cool Jordin’s Chaka Khan “do” was?! OH MY! I was hypnotized by it during her whole song. My husband said, “If you were a black girl, you’d wear your hair like that wouldn’t, you?”
You bes’ buh-leeve! ;-]
Who knew that I would now love, love, love Bon Jovi. I’m now a married mother of three that wants to go by her first Bon Jovi record. I will be sick if Lakeisha has to go home after that incredible performance! I hit rewind several times — It was that good!!! I love Jordin, but Boomama – I disagree – I thought she was terrible last night. I even hated the hair. :)
oops! I know how to spell “buy” – I shouldn’t type, drink coffee, and talk to kids at the same time!!
I love me some BonJovi – I’m an 80s girl. And…for just this week I am a Blaker Girl. Then I’m back to my Melinda. Can’t wait to do church with her!
Blake is my pic for the week – really think Jordin was the worst for the night.:(
Okay – I’m not going to post about this, so I’ll just hijack your blog for a minute here.
I have two things to comment about … first, I have a problem with Chris that goes far deeper than his ability to sing … or not. A couple weeks ago, the same week as the Virginia Tech tragedies, he performed what I thought was his weakest performance evah — and the judges told him as much. But he immediately deflected the criticism by giving a “shout out” to his friends at VA Tech and got all teary eyed. I thought it was quite inappropriate, and felt like he was using it as a “ploy” to win more pitty votes. It even took Simon off guard … and not much does. It may be that he was quite sincere … but it just came out as a cheap shot for sympathy. Anyway, it just stuck in my craw (is that even a real expression?).
Next, I have a problem with LaKisha’s “consistency” — or lack there of. I think she is very talented … has a powerful, pretty voice, but even though she hits a few good notes, I think she overall lacks in being constant with all her performances. I see a great performance one week, a bad one the next, an okay one following, etc. She needs to reach deep down inside and pull.it.out and improve each week as you see Melinda, Jordin, Blake, and even Phil doing. Those 4 seem like they are actually listening to the criticism they receive from the judges and are applying changes to improve themselves, pulling out the value in what the judges are saying, and laying aside the silly remarks. It’s almost as if LaKisha is unable to filter what the judges are saying and ends up paralyzing herself. Maybe I’m reading WAY more into it than what I should.
Anyhow … I think LaKisha has room to improve and “wow” the pants off of the judges and should stay one more week, but I think Chris has reached the end of the road. Thanks for letting me “guest-star” in your blog — even if you didn’t agree to it! ;-) lol!
Melinda, Melinda, Melinda! Rock on, girl!
AND, I actually liked Lakisha for once. But I just hate what they dress her in. She looked good in her own clothes when she went to meet Bon Jovi, but then up on stage she always looks like she’s trying to dress like a little skinny minny, and she should just dress to fit her body. And did you notice on last week’s show (which I just finished watching yesterday) the big boob gap in her white shirt? I was mortified for her.
Also loved Blake’s rendition. He’s such a cutie.
I just finished reading the blog and all the comments and am amazed at the huge variety in peoples opinions! I know I am really stepping out here and going against the grain, but I really don’t like Blake. There is just something about him that I just can’t get past and have a really hard time watching/listening to him. I know, I know, I’m not in the majority, but oh well! I do like Jordin and her energy. Honestly, I thought she did pretty good last night, Lord knows we’ve heard worse this season! Phil has really done well these last few weeks and even though I don’t think he should be THE American Idol, I do think he should go further than some that are still there. I think Chris should go. Not sure about who should go with him though.
It was a great show last night! We thought Phil was great as well as Melinda but Blake was the one that brought the kids into the room.
You can generally gage how this family feels by the DVR. If it’s a good song we watch it over a couple times. When things aren’t going so well we’ll skip the song and go straight to the comments. If you don’t catch us in the first 10 seconds we’ll skip you.
Chris got skipped somewhere mid song and Blake was watched 3 times last night and my 4 year old Joshua watched him twice again this morning. Last year Katharine McPhee’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” stayed on the DVR for 4 months, the kids loved that one…
Ack! I missed it again! I’m going to You Tube to see what I missed.
And even not seeing it, I think Chris and LaKisha should go home. But that’s jsut me. Ditto what GiBee said.
Where is Daphne???!!! I need my dial idol link!!!
I totally agree with Lisa on Blake. And I did not really care for his rendition of “You Give Love a Bad Name” but then I’ve been a Bon Jovi fan since their first hit “Runaway” and don’t like to see their songs messed with :) And man, oh, man, am I a Jon Bon Jovi FAN! Besides being cute, he seems like the nicest guy and married to his high school sweetheart, no less. He seemed so genuine and sincere last night. I thought Kiki “knocked it out the park” last night! And Melinda…who knew? This was my favorite AI show of the season! :)
Well I just have to say that I am sad by who DID leave! :( I really like Chris – though I am glad that Blake stayed!
