Okay – seriously – I am taking a break from packing to ask a very important question:
Do y’all really wear the same pajamas night after night?
REALLY?
Because while I know I’m weird, I did not realize until today that my pajama-wearing habits only serve to intensify the weirdness.
HOWEVER, I am a shower-in-the-morning girl – not a bath-before-bed girl. I can see how you’d wear the same pajamas if you are a bath-before-bed person because you’re clean when you put on the pj’s and still clean when you take them off. But for someone like me, who showers in the morning, wearing the same pajamas would be sort of like wearing dirty clothes to bed. Which doesn’t so much interest me.
But then I’m crazy and have issues, so don’t pay me a bit of mind.
And I don’t do the whole matching pajama thing…I usually wear some sort of (clean!) capri pajama bottoms with a (clean!) t-shirt.
Honestly, I remember being surprised when everyone thought I was strange for using fabric softener AND dryer sheets (WHY? WHY WOULDN’T YOU DO THAT? WHY?), but I’m actually more surprised about this pajama thing. I guess it’s because my clothes-washing habits are my own doing – but the pajama habit is my heritage, y’all – it’s what my mama taught us to do.
I’m FASCINATED by this, as you may have gathered.
So please feel free to throw in your two cents in the comments.
About your pajama habits, mind you.
Not about my incurable case of the crazies.
OK I’ve got to say that whoever said they dont worry about fires at night because teh dirty clothes are plentiful enough to grab some on the way out? That is me too LOL. And the whole “where has that towel been” issue, I use a CLEAN towel each time for my HEAD AND FACE AND HAIR and just whatever hangs on the door of the bathroom for the rest of me.
And this is the first post in foreva I went back and found it again to read thru the comments. :) I love it!
xoxo melzie
I never complain about the amount of laundry. I love doing laundry. Another issue….
I shower at night…and wear the same pajamas 2-3 nights in a row. :)
I was going to comment on this on the packing post, but didn’t.
Morning showerer, same PJ wearer for 2 or 3 nights. Really. In fact, on a 4 – 6 day vacation, I would pack 2 sets. That’s it.
Wow! I had no idea that I was such a hygeinic mess…I think my habits would give most of you all a serious twitch!
I have about 10 pairs of pajama pants that unless they get something on them (say pizza sauce from watching movies in my pj’s) I just fold ’em up and stuff ’em in the drawer for another day. I normally wear a tank with a support shelf bra thing to bed and that gets washed every 3-4 times, though so maybe that makes up for it??
But I also just started washing my face about a year ago (at 28) when I started getting little bumpies on my face that my husband said might go away if I washed my face every once in a while.
I think God knew that I’d have issues with the washing of things on a regular basis and blessed me with good skin as a teenager.
As for the towel…yup a week per towel. I know! I am so gross!! But I look at as building up a healthy immune system and saving the environment all at the same time!
Clean pj’s every night and of course clean towels too!
I’m staying far, far away from this conversation!!!
I kind of thought everyone used fabric softener and sheets. The softener is so your clothes will smell good, but it doesn’t work so well on controlling static, so I use the sheet is for static.
As I am writing this I am wearing a pair of capri p.j. bottoms and a t-shirt! I buy the cutest jammies and it is rare if I wear the matching top with the bottoms. I never looked at it as weird until I read your post. LOL! I guess I will be weird because I like it that way. I don’t like wearing the same jammies two nights in a row and I have to take my shower in the morning. If I didn’t my hair would be a disaster. As for the fabric softener and dryer sheets, guilty, use them both. I like really soft clothes and towels, I thought this would be the norm. :o) After writing all of this, I agree with you!!! You are so funny!!
pjs??? 90% of the time I sleep in whatever I wore that day. and I’m a shower in the A.M. girl. I will say thought that if I’ve been out working in the yard or doing something to work up a sweat, I can’t go to bed with out showering first. Changing sheets every week? Would nevah evah happen in my house…unless someone else did it!! I think they get washed every time company comes and when something gets spilled. can you say…Lazy :)
IF I AM SO LUCKY TO GET A BATH AT NIGHT, then I’ll wear the same pj’s twice–MAX. If I haven’t worked out or sweated profusely or whatnot, I’ll go to bed in fresh jammies but then promptly toss them in the dirty clothes in the morning. The sheets get changed weekly on EVERY bed in the house; but I’ll change mine immediately after any sort of “action,” if you know what I mean. (People are talking about sleeping in the buff, so I feel comfortable just being incredibly candid here.) And yes, I have contemplated feigning a headache just because I didn’t want to change the sheets the next day…unfortunately for me, my mind is easily changed, which may explain why I’m pregnant with baby #4.
And, hey, I’ve gotta comment on the nekkid sleepers—DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE KIDS? Because I never know who’s gonna wind up right in between me and the hubby by morning, and sometimes I wake up in a completely different bed than my own. How can you go “au naturale” in those conditions? Plus, that would only encourage more “action” which would entail more sheet changing, which would mean EVEN MORE BABIES FOR ME. It’d be like the Irish-Catholic Blue Lagoon or something; always naked (the Blue Lagoon part) and always having babies (the Irish Catholic part.)
Time to go get my pj’s on.
Did I just out myself as weirder than Boomama?
BooMama, this just cracked me up and caused me to delurk. I sleep in my PJ’s for at least two days, probably three. However, my husband and kids change their PJ’s and towels every day. Towels? I could go three days easy without washing. I’m clean when I use them to dry off.
Now kitchen towels and dishrags? That’s a whole ‘nother discussion. Wash daily or EEEUUWWW!!!
Have a great trip!
Okay, I’m going to comment before I read all the other comments because this is bugging me. And I have people coming over. And thus, I do not have time to read, what 117? comments. And isn’t that your most ever?? Must be a really hot topic. So, when I first read this I thought, yeah, why do I wear the same pair of pjs (which are the most comfy ever and I can’t get anymore but at least I have two that are exactly the same except for the color) for a few nights in a row? I’m putting my dirty body into my pjs. But then I thought, but who would want to put your dirty body into CLEAN pjs? And the sheets are dirty after the first night, unless you’re changing them every day. So now I think I’m compelled to become a shower at night gal w/ clean pjs except the problem w/ that is that my Beloved is also a furnace and sometimes, when he insists on cuddling, I get so very hot that I am sweating. Truly! And I don’t want to push away a cuddler. So now I just absolutely do not know what to do. I blame you BooMama. VBG ;-) And I hope that someone has answered my dilemma in the comments above.
And it’s been pure joy to meet Merritt and her family. Now, I just have to meet you when you come to visit her in her new home. :-)
I have 7 kids. I don’t have clean laundry. Its wear it again, or wear that one you wore the other night or go without.
I frequently fall in bed in whatever shirt I wore that day, just drop the jeans and crawl in bed, bra and all.
I’m tired. Who cares if I wear clean jammies to bed? I’m not trying to impress anyone, not even in my dreams. I’m just trying to get at least 2 hours straight of sleep!
Priorities woman! Priorities!
I shower in the morning but if I’ve been outside doing yard work or some other activity that has made me feel sweaty and gross I’ll also shower before bed. My hair must be washed every morning because I get up with the worst bedhead evah!
I wear nightgowns…clean one every night. I also use a clean towel for my body and one for my hair every day. Yeah that translates into a buttload of laundry but I don’t mind as long as I feel clean :)
Love ya, BooMama…you’re a hoot!
I’m gonna chime in on the P.J.s because I don’t usually wear them. I like to just sleep in a T-shirt (a clean one every night). But it drives me crazy that the kids need a clean pair every night – more washing and folding for me. Oh and I don’t even want you to get started on clean towels everyday.
This is hilarious! I’ve been reading these over the course of the day. To be honest, I’ve just never thought about jammies as being an issue. I guess I usually wear a t-shirt and either cotton shorts or pants. I’m hot all the time, so no matter what I wear, it gets sweaty. Ewww. I actually love sleeping “au naturale” but with a preschooler who’s in our bed more often than not, it doesn’t happen often. And my husband loves when I wear silkie nighties, but they’re not practical or modest enough for the midnight wet-the-bed or night-terror adventures I have.
And I would use clean towels every day, but I could never keep up with that laundry! But I do use seperate towels for head and for body. I can’t handle water in my eyes in the shower, so I always have a small towel in the shower, which I then use for my face and hair. That’s not *as* gross, is it?
I honestly have so few clothes that I have to wear pants multiple times. Shirts only last one day for me because I’m a klutz. And I have three messy kids.
My momma taught me to wear the same pair for a week – a clean pair on the night of washday (Saturday) which was the same as bathnight. Now I just wear the same sports bra or tank top or camisole that I had on all day and my same day underpants. In the morning I put on a new set and wear that for the day and night (with a pair of shorts over of course). In the winter I’ll wear a pair of stretch pants for pajama bottoms.
I’m a shower in the morning gal myself, and I wear the same pjs a few nights in a row, in the fall/winter. In the spring, I, ahem, sometimes wear pnaties or just nothing to bed. I actually own very few nightgowns or pajamas, and most of those I got for warmth in the winter or because we were having people over/I was visiting other people and couldn’t run around nekkid. TMI, I know, but it makes both me and hubbie happy.
Oh, I forgot to mention something I find hilarious. Both Rich’s mom and my mother have bought me nightgowns/pajamas, because they always see me in the exact same one when they visit. I don’t think they’ve picked up on the real reason, I think they think either we aren’t spending the money on me, or that I just don’t take the time to get myself new things.
One last comment on the pj thing — no pjs or anything?? Birthday suit to sleep in? I did that once and had nightmares about being in my birthday suit in front of my English class giving a presentation. Never again! I shudder even thinking about it.
PJ’s in this house are expressly for the winter. And Saturday mornings. Husband sleeps in his boxers, and I sleep in a tank top and briefs. I change the tank top every day, because I usually wear it to go running the next morning.
I recently made a discovery about my pajama habits, too:
http://ladanea.blogspot.com/2007/05/grand-discovery.html
Otherwise, PJ’s are a necessity in wintertime, and I usually change them every day because it usually takes me that long to get around to changing out of them.
a little later here… I take a bath every night before bed. (My thoughts…who wouldn’t??? LOL) But I still put on clean (not clean fromt he night before, but CLEAN) pjs every night. They let me out of the staight jacket to type this. :)
