Right now – right this very second – I am listening to Toby Mac on my iPod. For the first time.
Oh yes I am.
And here’s what’s even more surprising to me:
I AM ENJOYING IT.
Do y’all think that I might be, you know, street like that?
There is this one song called “Boomin’,” and it makes me want to get in my car and play it really loud and ride around a Sonic parking lot.
Which is TOTALLY acceptable behavior for a 30-something mama.
So.
Y’all wanna come with me?
I’ll buy us some tater tots with cheese.
And WE WILL ROCK IT, YO.

Now you know how much I LOVE riding around listening to music…almost any music! So come pick me up, ‘kay? I’ll be ready anytime.
And I have to confess, I’ll have to listen to Sir Toby because I ain’t sure if I’ve ever had the pleasure of his company before or not. Chances are I have, because Jessica and Jason like the rap-ier, hip hop-ier stuff. If that’s his thang, that is.
And Sister? Hon,you just say the word and we’ll do that meetin’, greetin’ and eatin’ thing, too!
Love and hugs,
Diane
TobyMac infiltrated my mp3 thanks to my daughter. It totally ROCKS the house.
SO, I’ll take a seat with ya- heck, potatoes are one of my daily potassium requirements. It’s all good!
Should we start calling you BooDawg?
Lamar and I loved “Boomin”! “Rockin’ out your stereo system”, in “stere-ere-O!”
I’ll be investigating this phenomenon and looking for more stuff by him! Thanks for the heads up, BooMama! :-)
Love and hugs,
Diane
Hey, hey, hey- I am so proud of you to have expanded out into the world of tobymac! I’m a bit of a junky, saw him a year ago at a small venue here in FL and found myself (a 30-something mama) breakin’ it down with all the 13 year olds- Hey, One Love, One God, One People- says nothing about age in there.
He’s got some good lyrics and YES I’ll join you at Sonic and please turn up the bass a little. Peace out homegirl!
I must confess this post makes me want to go dig out all my old DC Talk albums and listen to some “Jesus Freaks.”
um… he’s white and he’s kind of posing… but I *think* I liked it? I will try again.
Love this post! I’ve felt the same way before- my 4 year old has told me to turn the radio down a few times :).
I just challenged my 13 year old to the Spelling Bee TV show and I won..she was impressed that I know ALL THOSE WORDS…
My husband loves Toby Mac. He was in concert here a while back and he had to go and see him. I told him that he had to be the oldest person there.
Maybe I wouldn’t feel so old if I’d listen to a little Toby Mac myself!
Yes! Let’s Cruise through Sonic, down to the grocery store, through the Wal-Mart parking lot and back to Sonic again! Windows down, hair blowin’ in the wind, music a blarin’. . .those were the days!
I love his song “I was made to love you”. He’s going to be in my neck of the woods this weekend at the *free* Luis Pulau festival. I’d love to go, but I don’t know if I feel like taking 4 kids with me when the crowds will be huge! Driving around the sonic parking lot, eating tots, and listening to Toby Mac real loud sounds like a ton of fun to this 30-something mom though!!
We love Toby Mac in this house. My daughter is obsessed with “Catch a Fire!” When it comes on the radio we crank it up obnoxiously loud.
Boodawg. That is classic. That one’s a keeper. Maybe you should get a new header, just for days when you’re in a “Boomin'” kind of mood. One that says BOODAWG across the top.
I have always loved his songs. Never saw his picture before today though. Interesting.
Give me Motown…and fast.
We love tobyMac! “Boomin” is always played loud, with the windows and sunroof open! :)
And to think that just today I was LETTING MY FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER DRIVE while we CRANKED IT UP and sang to the radio as I beat on the top of the roof with the windows down and the wind blowin’ through our collective hair and then…and then…THE HUBSTER TOOK ME TO SONIC FOR A ROOTBEER FLOAT!
Oh yes, he did.
I’m telling you, this old lady is living La Vida Loca this summer. Watch out!
well pleased to say I am a 40 something year old mama that adores Toby mac and DO play his blarin music all the time on my Ipod in the car with everything he has written. I love the song he wrote that he does with his 5 year old son. He is awesome.
As long as you let me roll the window of the car down and flail my hands in praise outside the window!!?? lol
YES!!!
Ooo Ooo Ooo… I’ll come!
Hugs,
Melinda
oh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some TobyMAc!!!
He played at the Nashville CityFest in May.
Sonic and TobyMac – doesn’t get much better!
Blessings,
Karla
Fried Green Tomatoes and Toby Mac. You are one diverse Mama!
I am so “down wid dat yo”…”fo sheezy”!!!
I love Toby Mac!!!
…and fried green tomatoes!!
…do you think we might have been separated at birth???
Get on with yo bad self my Sistah!
I’m 40 something & I love Toby Mac!
Oh Yeah, I’m in…a Lemon-Berry Slush for me! And Toby Mac can boom…sounds like a great time.
Love ya!
Holly
I’m so glad you are enjoying it. Did you find the song with Mandisa?
the first tobymac song I ever heard was this one…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0O7BSBO7wE
and I’ve been a tobymac fan ever since…
can I get a chili cheese dog instead of tots…???
blessings, mamabright :-)
I can’t believe you are just now listening to Toby Mac. He rocks (in a good way.)
My Fav. is Diverse City.
I will go anywhere where I can get tots with cheese. Toby Mac is a bonus!
I would totally love to rock to some very loud music with the likes of you. And you wouldn’t even have to buy me any tater tots.
Count me in, YO! :)
Throw in a diet cherry vanilla coke with those tots and I’m there.
Hey, want to email me that music file? I have an iPod Nano and I’d love to try that one out. :)
I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to Sonic but if I lived closer I’d go!
I have always loved me some Toby Mac! Even back in the D.C. Talk days!
I’ll take a strawberry slushie with those tots too, please!
Count me in! And my gracious alive, I will buy the Cherry Limeades! Tots with cheese…oh the pounds. Oh the goodness.
And let’s be wild and crazy and not even go during Happy Hour where we can get our Route 44’s for less money! Because that would be too responsible for someone as street and hip as you!
I’m surprise you haven’t at least listened to him before! And, I’m all with you on the Sonic except, I’ll take onion rings please.
BTW, did Sonic start using that non-trans fat grease?? The tater tots leave an after taste in my mouth now.
My 13yo son is not out of bed yet at 8:14 (luckily for him it’s not Garbage Day today) so I am not yet being subjected to Boomin’ boomin’ through the house. Thankfully.
But I know it’s just a matter of time.
My 2 oldest kids have listened to him for a while now…I never paid much attention until they went to the Celebrate Freedom Concert in Dallas with some friends….they now have his picture on their own blogs and are calling him “The Macster” :-D
I must admit I enjoyed the 1 song I’ve paid attention to since then… :-D Very ‘Fun’! (…is that word too boring to use on such a hip hoppin’ rockin’ post as this?) and Sonic?…Always! Every Day if I could!
Where have you been girl? Toby Mac has been on my MP3 player for years! Love Toby Mac. He’s awesome to see in concert if you get the chance. So much fun. And yes, I felt like an “oldie but a goodie” at his concert, but it’s worth feeling “old” so see him live!
Blessings,
Georgia Mom
Toby Mac is coming to Omaha this weekend for the Luis Palau festival. I was just going to look up his songs and start listening to them with the 10 and 7 year old. Thanks for the great endorsement.
Wish I could go hear him; but the 2 year old is recovering from having her tonsils out on Friday and is still down for the count. Maybe I’ll make my husband buy me a CD or two.
I LOVE this! Toby Mac is big in our house – the kids can dance to it and it is totally safe.
And Sonic? I think I would go to Sonic for just about any reason! Sign me up! :)
Haven’t listened to Toby Mac since I was all up in some DC Talk. I’m still pretty darn hip 13 years later and maybe it’s time to try out some “Boomin'” (when I was reading the post the first time, I thought you were about to say he had a song called “Boomama”… I did a double take!)
We don’t have a Sonic here in the greater Knox Agropolis but we have a Dairy Queen and a regular route for “making a drag” through town. And the DQ has really good tots and Dr Pepper. SO come on west girlfriend. Last September my daughter and I and some other friends and daughters went tothe Revolve Tour in Big D. There was Christian rapper named KJ-52 and let me tell you HE ROCKED THE ARENA! 10000 hands in the air. Lots of white girls gettin it!
I am there girl! I met my husband at Sonic, so you can tell I have been there a few times before with the top down (car, not shirt) and radio blarin’.
Sounds like fun!
I’m a 30-something mama, too, and I am the biggest TobyMac fan! I’ve been a fan since his DCTalk days. I even took my 7-year-old daughter to a TobyMac concert two years ago. I love Boomin’ and anything else he sings. I’m in for the Sonic parking lot – tots and all!
I’m with Sister, give me Motown. I’ll will meet you at Sonic for the meetin, greetin, and eatin part. :-)
LOVE Toby! He rocks. Boomin’ is my favorite song on Portable Sounds. : )
I’m so there!!! Just point me in the right direction. I can even teach you how to do the arm/hand motions so you’ll be even more cool!
DiverseCity is my ringtone. I’ve been crushin’ on Tobymac since 7th grade.
Well, I will come along but we will have to call ourselves the
the “hawt” Moms…The only thing that makes me feel the least bit good about this is that TOBY is older than me and my teen age daughter just freaked when she found out that little tidbit! KEWL.
I’m a 40-something grandmama and I love me some Toby Mac!
Well, you asked for it. Now I have to give you a Rockin’ Girl Blogger Award. Head over to my blog and scroll down a post or two and you’ll find it.
My husband accuses me of being in love with tobyMac. (BTW, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you that tobyMac is ONE word–lowercase ‘t’ capital M) I love Made to Love, but I think my favorite song right now is the one he did with Ayiesha Woods, Big Enough.
Love me some TobyMac! I started listening to Christian music with DC Talk – ah, those were the days. I love the song “Boomin'”.
I love me some Toby! I’m so proud of you for finally trying his music on… :) Way back when you had your contest asking who your favorite artist was… I admitted my Toby addiction right there and then! His music is amazing – and I’m an almost 40 somthin’ mama!!! ha ha! The treadmill at the gym would just not be the same without him!
Does cruising the “strip” in any town u.s.a. include a Sonic in the loop? It sure did back in my day. This post and it’s comments made me laugh and have some flashbacks :)
I hope the invite includes newcomers to the blogging scene…cause I’m all about some tater tots and cheese!!!!!
I enjoy tobyMac. I saw him in concert a few years ago and that made me like him even more!
He rocks. Love him.
Don’t know who he is, but I’m still dyin’ to ride along with y’all! (((((HUGS))))) sandi~still really enjoyin’ yer blog!
Toby rocks out loud!! I’m loving “boomin'”and my 6yr old esp. loves “you got me feelin’ so fly”. I feel like I found me a musical kindred spirit! “Tennessee is keepin’good and loud”
Ooh, I love Toby Mac, but I hadn’t heard this song before. It’s great!! Time to go shopping for some new music, I think!
A big fan of Toby Mac too, but my children freak out just a little when they find out their mom knows lyrics to their cds. Not so cool mama singing “Boomin” around the house. If they only knew it’s my cleaning tunes.
What’s Sonic? and Tater tots with cheese – um ewwww!
TM totally rocks!
Okay, I’m just catchin up on my reading and because you have mentioned my man, Toby, I am compelled to say, “WHAT UP?!”
And Boomin’? It is the greatest song EVER. Not as theologically deep as say, Just As I am , but it makes me love Jesus nonetheless..And when I go for my morning run? Well I run faster.
One of our best friends is the most brilliant, conservative, sought-after New Testament theologians in the known Universe…He was horrified to find I listen to Toby so I am now on a mission to make him love our boy, too…one small YO at a time :))
I was out of town for a week or so and have sooo missed your blog! Just had to comment on this post to tell you that I had the awesome pleasure of seeing Toby Mac in concert last saturday night at King’s Island in Cincinnati, OH and oh yes ma’am, he was a rockin’ the house! This almost 30 mama was rocking out, much to the dismay of the 10 youth group kids who were with me, I’m sure!! :)
