A little while ago I put Alex in time out for arguing with me. After about four minutes I walked back to his room and said, “Buddy, do you know why you’re in time out?”
“Because the pirates wanted to fight you,” he said.
I think that maybe I’m not communicating very clearly.
I triple love that “Little Bear” is Alex’s favorite cartoon right now. Because I think it is absolutely adorable. And as an added bonus, there are no characters with high-pitched, screechy voices.
Four years ago I had no idea what a huge animated plus that would be.
I find this dress from Walmart to be sixteen kinds of fun. It would require a camisole – but how cute would it be in early fall?

OH-SO-CUTE.
My sister-in-law Rose told me recently that Lancome is owned by L’Oreal, and as a result several of their products are nearly identical.
I for one had never heard of such a thing.
But after a little research (the internet, it is handy), I found out a surprising bit of information: ‘TIS TRUE!
Rose relayed this exciting news right as I was about to run out of my usual Lancome foundation, and so, in a fit of frugal enthusiasm, I bought the L’Oreal True Match instead. It was a third of the price, and I am sort of disturbingly excited about the fact that something cheaper JUST MIGHT WORK. I will keep you posted.
Because I care about you and your skin care regimen.
I can’t say enough good things about Marc Broussard‘s latest CD. I listed it on my “Listening” page a couple of weeks ago – but it deserves a main-page mention.
Alex and I have done some of our best boogie-down moves EVER to “Let The Music Get Down In Your Soul,” and along with Monk & Neagle, Mr. Broussard is indelibly etched on the Summer ’07 soundtrack of my mind. Love it.
For all of you sweet people who didn’t think my house was all that messy in yesterday’s pictures, BLESS YOU. I have happily basked all day in what Veronica referred to as my “rookie” house-is-a-wreck status. But in case you’ve forgotten: this and this will provide all the insight you need in terms of why house stuff tends to stress me out a bit.
I get it honest. That’s all I’m sayin’.

“Because I care about you and your skin care regiment.”
Okay, now I’m giggling because I’m picturing about 10 beefy soldier boys doing your makeup. :-D
Because the pirates wanted to fight you.
I’d love to know what was going thru his head in those 4 minutes before you asked him!
Ahh Little Bear brings back some memories lol I spent 30 weeks in bed with my last pregnancy and I had 2 little ones…A 5 and 2 year old so we watched a LOT of Little Bear. I decided early in the pregnancy that it was a girl and her name would be Grace because she was here by the Grace of God. I just couldn’t come up with a first name. My oldest wanted Emily from Little Bear and I thought Emily Grace sounded great together so I have an Emily Grace courtesy of Little Bear and the Grace of God:-)I know you were just dying to hear that story lol
If I remember correctly the American Beauty line at Kohl’s is made by Clinque as well. Not quite as cheap as something you can find at Wal-Mart but a darn site cheaper than dept. store prices. I was going to try one of their foundations but then even Clinique stopped carrying what I liked so I’m trying all kind of different things.
BooMama, I love that dress!! I have wanted that dress so bad.. but I am deformed so I can’t buy it.. it’s true… sad, I know…. I have a rubber tire (of flab) where my waist should be and I could not possibly wear that dress… but I sure do love it… sigh…Enjoy your dress.. I wish I could…. :(
The cleaning thing… I cleaned tonight because I didn’t want to do anything tomorrow when I get off work… Hubby is out of town so I got everything done tonight.. I plan on rest and relaxation for tomorrow.. I’ll pick out an outfit for church Sunday and do “spa” night and that’s all I’m planning…. By the way, I use some L’Oreal products.. a cleanser at night… Hydra fresh.. I think.. But I didn’t know they owned Lancome…hmm….. I haven’t tried that make-up.
Sister, I did have a good weekend last weekend.. thanks! Hope you are doing good.. have a good weekend!
I made a beauty savings discovery myself about 3 weeks ago- I have not worn any lipstick besides Clinique since 1988- I felt like it was just the absolute best- in terms of taste or lack of taste- and amount of wearing time- I was getting tired of the color I had and did not want to make a trip to the mall just to buy lipstick – mainly because of the traffic I would get in just to get there- anyway…I happened to be going to the Wal Marts- and I perused the beauty aisle and found a beautiful color (coffee bean- a shiny light brownish color) by Revlon-
After 3 weeks of use, I think Revlon in the black tube is just as good if not better- It has no taste by the way- And it is $5.94 at Wal Mart- and I love all the colors- In fact, I now have 3 tubes of Revlon for the price of one tube of Clinique!
I go and buy the Lancome foundation on the “get other stuff” free day (and I love the bags that come with it, too!). However, I may break down and try L’oreal…but I’m waiting for your good word!
The dress is terribly cute and makes me long for the days of size 7 (before 4 children). I hope you buy it and enjoy it, Sister!
Have a great weekend!
Holly
I still think we need to do a Walmarts fall fashion show. A Walmarts show.
Oh, a fashion show would be more fun! Just more fun! A Walmart fashion show would be so much fun!
OH SO CUTE indeed!!!!!
i highly approve and look forward to the pics in the fall.
:)
Hey Alex- I found some pirates that won’t get you in so much trouble from now on …
http://youtube.com/watch?v=XaWU1CmrJNc
Lots of hugs, little man!
I bought that foundation the other day at CVS in an act of desperation, and I found it to be pretty good! I’ve been a Maybelline girl since I left the workforce and the Prescriptives-counter-worthy salary, but they discontinued my formula. And I waited till the last drop of my Maybelline supply to bo hunt for a new brand. Knowing that L’Oreal is Lancome makes me feel better about it! :0)
I did know about Loreal/Lancome. I am ADDICTED to Lancome mascara. There’s NOTHING like it. Sadly, not even Loreal. It’s like Ann Taylor and the Loft or the Gap and Old Navy. Owned by the same company, but not equal. But let me know about the foundation. Perhaps the difference isn’t as dramatic as with the mascara.
I used to sell Clinique, while in college, so I knew this little secret. I know OH SO much about the inside workings of big cosmetic companies.
Let me just say that there are still a few things that I will use that have to be Clinique, but for the most part, my makeup bag is full of Loreal, Revlon, etc.
And that dress!! OH MY!!! As soon as I have this baby and lose my pregnancy weight, I will be all over that dress!
Blessings,
Karla
I want to look like the imaginary figure in the dress…
Is Allen looking forward to more swimming lessons?:)
little bear is my favorite kid’s show ever. it is just so sweet and non annoying. i like max and ruby pretty well too.
I am still not over “b/c the pirates want to fight you!” LOL
I kind of want to use that one next time…I think I just may :)
I switched to L’Oreal about a year ago. You can’t beat paying $6 for something I used to pay $45 for. Cha-ching. I love it – who cares if the packaging is cheaper? who’s going to see it?! And L’oreal just came out with a bright color line for eyes… just like the department store! I think i’m going to get me a BRIGHT purple. :)
I was wondering………..you can get your lips and eye liner tattoo on…………well…..can I just get my whole face “tattooed” to look like I am wearing makeup. And then at night I would just have to make sure I used a lotion to keep my face hydrated but not oily. If only that were true. hehehehehe
Ah yes Little Bear. So peaceful and calming.
~~Yawn~~
Makes me wanna prop my legs up and lean back in my chair. I can just hear Little Bears soothing voice and the relaxing music/sounds now.
Trina
That dress is darling!! Goodness don’t let oldest dd see that or she’ll be wanting to go to Walmart.
Marc Broussard?! To DIE for! Have loved him for several years now. SUCH soul! “Home” has gotten me through MANY ‘o tryin’ times on the treadmill.
I love the old school soul of his new CD. Nice. Summer soundtrack ’07 indeed.
BTW, I was in our local MEGA Christian bookstore yesterday & they had a Monk & Neagle promo video playin’ on the fancy-schmany flat screen. I sang along with EVERY song. The pre-pubescent sales guy looked at me like I was crazy. Sorry. Can’t help it if I’m “in the know” and he’s NOT. ;-]
I love the “pirates wanted to fight you” comment! I can’t wait for my son to take off talking to hear cool stuff like that.
I followed that link to the pic of your mama’s laundry room. I must hang my head in total shame. My laundry room is a pit, complete with cat box and scattered littered in front of the cat box. Not to mention the bajillion baskets of clothes waiting to be put away. At least they’re folded.
Love the dress!
And by the way your house really didn’t look so bad. I agree with the other ladies on that one!
Thanl fot he tip on L’Oreal I didn’t know that! Good stuff!
Blessings
Suzi
Oh I remember Little Bear. That was before SpongeBob, Timmy Turner & Jimmy Neutron took over.
I so love Little Bear and cannot tell you how I wish my boys were still young enough to enjoy him! We had a Little Bear stuffed animal that would say some of his pet phrases when you squeezed his tummy–one toy I cannot put in the pile for Goodwill!
I may check out some L’Oreal myself…I just have trouble picking the proper shade and end up buying more tubes and spending way more than I would have at the department store counter with the kind helper telling me what to get!
Because I have a broken left big toe and a cracked right tibia (shin bone), I’m strung out on some seriously effective pain meds. I read the post and I thought of a comment and then it left me and I started wondering if Little Bear knows about L’Oreal and whether the pirates would be bested by all your Southern Soutnernness and how is little Howard these days, anyway?
I think you would look absolutely adorable in that dress! This opinion is based solely on the way you write. And I bet I’m right!
The dress is adorable and you’ll be the cutest girl at wherever you wear it! That is, unless the pirates start picking fights with you again, in which case you may become disheveled.
Happy Weekend! :)
I am glad I found you out here in the blogosphere! Thanks for just being real!
Much love,
Angela
I haven’t commented in ages, but I’m here. And you are still as fun and adorable as ever.
I have always been a drugstore make-up girl. Then I heard that Laura Bush is one, too. I was tickled to death. If it’s good enough for the First Lady, it’s good enough for me. :>) Now you have given me even more reason to buy it!
I LOVE True Match by L’Oreal – it covers so nicely, but smoothly. And, you might be jealous, but Monk and Neagle is coming to my town in October – I think they are the warm up for Mercy Me! Laurie
I’ve been using the L’Oreal True Match for a few months and it’s worked great… but I do have to confess that I actually just bought some Mary Kay foundation tonight, because, well, ya know, I was at a MK party, and I had to get something.
And speaking of Monk & Neagle (not that I was, but you were…), I’m afraid I’m going to have to call our new post office on Monday and see if they somehow know where mine ended up, or if it’s in a magical holding place where they keep the packages of people who recently changed their addresses, since it has yet to arrive in my mailbox. :sniff: I check the box eagerly every day, only to be greeted by store coupons and mail for the previous tenant. :)
First of all, I like the True Match stuff. Works as well as the Clinique I used to use.
And Little Bear reminds me of all the Jesse Bear books I read to the girls. Love them!
Those pirates must have beef with you, LOL.
I use Bare Escentuals and LOVEEEE it. However, before I used the true match and it worked okay too. I just like the feeling of NO makeup with the minerals.
Oh! I’m thinking that dress at Walmart and I will have an eHarmony date soon… We’ll see if we’re a match.
And as I’ve not bought makeup in well, forever, but in all honesty, I need to do so, it’s good to know that I can get some good stuff at fraction of the cost. I, of course, will wait until you post that your face hasn’t turned blotchy to make sure it’s a good buy. Thanks for giving yourself so fully for our skin regiment.
I had never heard of Marc Broussard until I went to “Stars On Ice.” One of the performers skated to “Home.” I was hooked – that song ROCKS.
Also – another note about cosmetic companies you may not know. Clinique, Estee Lauder, and Prescriptives are all the same company (Lauder Companies). I am sure there are more even than those three. Check out the “Cosmetics Cop” if you haven’t – she tells it like it is when it comes to makeup. http://www.cosmeticscop.com.
Thanks for the laugh! I was having a bad day, so I thought let’s see what Boomama’s up to. That pirate comment was hilarious! I laughed out loud. Sitting at my desk, supposedly doing work.
I also love that you find humour in your messy house and show pictures! If only I could!
Love the dress!
And thank you a thousand times for letting us in on the L’Oreal secret!
Even cuter if I could squeeze my expanding buns into it!
