Because you asked…
1 package original Oreos
4 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 gallon Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream, slightly softened
1 gallon Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate ice cream, slightly softened
homemade fudge sauce (recipe below)
strawberries, for garnish
fresh whipped cream, for topping
Crush package of Oreos in a food processor or with a rolling pin. Combine with sugar and butter, then press in the bottom of a Pyrex pie dish.
Sprinkle walnuts or pecans on top of crust.
Spread a layer of vanilla ice cream – about an inch thick – across the bottom of the dish. Follow with an inch-thick layer of chocolate ice cream, then another inch-thick layer of vanilla.
Which brings us to three inches of delicious ice cream goodness.
Place pie back in freezer to set.
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup corn syrup (we use Karo)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup half and half
3 tablespoons butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Stir together all ingredients except for vanilla extract in a saucepan. Boil five minutes, then remove from heat. Add vanilla extract. You can store the sauce in the refrigerator if you need to – just heat through before serving.
To serve, cut in wedges, garnish with a strawberry and fresh whipped cream, then drizzle about two tablespoons of fudge sauce over each slice.
You won’t even believe how good it is.
Well, yeah you will. You’ll absolutely believe how good it is. Because any sort of sauce that has cocoa, corn syrup, sugar and butter is pretty much a sure thing.
Unless you try to eat said sauce over some ham.
In which case it will probably be none too pleasing.
I don’t know. I think I might even like it on some ham, to tell the truth. It makes me laugh a little that the Oreo crust needed just a tad bit of sugar. You know, ’cause Oreos can be just a little bitter at times. Just like a Southern mama though, isn’t it?
Yumm!! My mom and I make a similar dessert, but we use Blue Bell Coffee ice cream. You can’t go wrong with Oreos & any kind of ice cream!
Oy My gosh- That sounds divine!! I’ll be making that soon!
You know it’s good when Blue Bell icecream is used. There really just is no better.
Sounds great, but I’m so tired– Can you just make some and bring it over? I’ll have a cold Diet Coke waiting with lots of Sonic ice in it…
Leslie
Yummy! I’m so gonna have to try it. And I love that you specified BLUE BELL ICE CREAM…….Is there really any other brand?
What size pyrex dish? This sounds absolutely fantastic (although we don’t have access to Blue Bell Ice Cream up here in Illinois :( ); I’m definitely going to try it SOON … with some Diet Coke! ;)
Oh WOW. That sounds deeelicious!
Still trying to figure out the addition of sugar to the Oreo mixture. I guess it’s just not sweet enough otherwise? And heaven forbid one of the internets attempts to desecrate such a decadent dessert with LOWFAT Oreos! *gasp*
Thanks for sharing. Your mama has great tastes– Blue Bell is ze best!
oh my…that might be the new thanksgiving dessert this year. usually we have caramel apple cheesecake and we have another dessert. i think the kids would go for that pie!!
Sophie, I must admit that Mom has always said she thought I’d eat a cowpie if I thought it was chocolate.
However.
The thought of hot fudge and ham is less than appealing.
Unless, of course, you could alternate bites. Then I’m all over it.
So is the fudge sauce as good as the hot fudge sauce in the jar at the grocery store?
oh so dangerous!
The MBI family had our first taste of Blue Bell ice cream at the beach a few weeks ago.
Life has not been the same since.
It didn’t hurt that it was served to us at a little place called The Sugar Shack.
oooOOOooooo I haven’t heard Blue Bell ice cream mentioned in a very long time. We used to live in Houston, and that was the only kind of ice cream my mom would buy. They don’t have it up north.
Also, you forgot to mention in your recipe to save out 3 or 6 or 8 Oreo’s to eat whilst you are making the rest of the pie. I am so disappointed in you….
Oh my holy goodness. That sounds divine! I think it wo uld be dangerous to hav ein my house. I’m waiting for company to have that one!
I think I just gained three pounds while reading this! It sounds so yummy!
I’ve seen the sway you have over the masses of bloggers everywhere; over musicians who will give you interviews and free CDs; over the fashion world. You are powerful, woman. Now use that power for good and get the Blue Bell folks to send their ice cream to Indiana. Please.
OH MY GOODNESS!!! I may actually have to try this one…my mom makes an oreo cookie “thang” that is similiar, but the added butter and sugar sounds awesome! THANKS FOR SHARING!
Not trying to desecrate the overwhelming goodness of the recipe AS IS, but I noticed a couple of you mentioned you can’t get Blue Bell ice cream. Try Turkey Hill, if it’s available in your area. IMHumbleO, it’s the best. Even their vanilla frozen yogurt (the sacrilege!) is great!
This is exactly why diets cannot be maintained in football season. Too many great things to eat!
big sigh… I live up north – NO BLUE BELL. They just don’t understand that it really is the best tasting ice cream in the country. Don’t take your Blue Bell for granted!!!
Thanks for sharing the recipe! As a matter of fact I do have company coming Sunday evening so….we may be having us some of this! There are quite a few kids comings, so one may not be enough!
:-)
I gained ten pounds just reading this…
I need a mop to clean up the puddle of drool I left on the floor as I slid out of my chair and gave praise for the almighty chocolate sauce.
OK, I’ve never heard of Blue Bell ice cream. (cowers from the masses) Is it comparable to Dreyers, Edy’s or Breyers?
I have a stomach virus. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to.
Oh My! That sounds too good. Gonna have to try it. :) I can feel my hips growing already. LOL
Thanks for the smiles and because you always have me smiling over something I am awarding you for it. Head over to my place to pick it up hon!
Hugs, ~Rhen
SWEET CRACKER SANDWHICH! I may as well just slap that pie on my thighs…because that’s where it’ll be goin anyway.
sounds so awesome…..
must…
go…
get…..
makings…
*sigh*
Ok. I am SO in trouble. I’ve already gained 10 or possilby alot more pounds due to pregnancy. I’ve got 3 more months to go. This icecream pie will send me WAY over the top!
Oh yeah, that sounds so yummy! Oreos are my favorite! But, I do have to say that Dreyer’s and Edy’s ice cream are my favorite…and you can get them ALL OVER the country (Dreyer’s on the western part of the country, Edy’s in the midwest and east).
And yes, I would have to eat a few of those Oreos before I crushed the rest!
