Because The Gift Card Was About To Burn A Hole In My Purse

So as soon as I took care of all my obligations this morning, I put the High School Musical 2 soundtrack in my CD player LIKE THE GROWN WOMAN I AM and drove over to the Steinmart(s).

As a brief aside, I should mention that there’s a point in “What Time Is It” when the HSM kids sing the words “say it loud,” but up until today I misunderstood the words and had been singing “SELAH!” without the slightest consideration for the fact that a Disney musical about American high school teens is probably not going to be throwing around any, you know, Hebrew in the song lyrics.

So I learned something this morning. That’s all I’m sayin’.

Anyway, I headed into Steinmart(s) ready to shop until I dropped, and while I found several cute things, this denim skirt was the highlight of my trip:

img_0259.jpg

Please do not be frightened by the unattractive black patent leather belt. It’s going into the Pointless Accessories drawer just as soon as I can remove it from the belt loops.

Now the skirt is a little wrinkled because, oddly enough, I didn’t iron it as soon as I pulled it out of the shopping bag (ahem), but I wanted to show you a picture because it’s one of those great finds that will look good on just about anyone.

It comes up high on the waist (NIPPAGE AND TUCKAGE FOR THE FLAPPAGE), and while it’s definitely fitted, it doesn’t hug the stomach. There are cute pockets on the back, and I think the A-line cut is really flattering (and all the vertical stitching on the front doesn’t hurt, either).

The hem hits a couple of inches below the knee, so it’s a perfect skirt for boots, but today I had on flip-flops because of the 439 percent humidity, and it looked great with them, too.

And here is some very specific information if you happen to have a Steinmart(s) nearby: the brand is Baccini, and I found a rack of these skirts next to all the jeans in the casual ladies’ clothes section (not the dressy stuff at the front of the store, but the more everyday stuff toward the back of the store).

I have to cook supper now, but I wanted to share this information as soon as I could because STORES ARE OPEN UNTIL NINE.

And oooh! Oooh!

Look what was in the mail for me when I got home this afternoon!

Christmas music! By Third Day!

I’ll be doing a giveaway in a week or three.

Oh, happy day. And thanks for all your sweet birthday comments. I have grinned and laughed until my cheeks hurt, and THAT IS NOT HELPING WITH THE WRINKLES, PEOPLE!

But I will happily accept a few fine laugh lines from the internets. Because y’all make me smile every single day.

And for that, I can never thank you enough.

Now please excuse me while I go fry up some bacon.

  1. SO glad you had a fun day! Gift cards burn holes in my purses, too…..

    That skirt is A D O R A B L E!

And how excited am I about new Christmas music coming out soon! We’re driving from Texas to Michigan and back at the end of October. That’s not too early to listen to Christmas music, is it??

  2. I also cannot let a gift card sit unattended in my purse for very long. It’s a sickness.

    Love the skirt.

  3. Cute skirt!

Now after the bacon is fried, strain your grease. After the grease has cooled, take some and smear it on your face. This will serve 2 purposes.

    1. It will fill in those wrinkle lines, and

    2. Your hubbie will thing it is an aphrodisiac. Men CAN NOT resist the smell of bacon!

  4. You make me smile too. Love the skirt. But seriously, I can’t believe you didn’t iron it before showing it to us.

I can smell that bacon sizzling….

  5. ooooooooo that is a cute skirt!!

And I’ve had that CD on my Amazon wish list for awhile.

    Blessings,
    Karla

  6. ooh, boomama!

what a cute skirt you got! we don’t have steinmart(s) here, but we do have burlington coat factory, marshalls, kohls, and i think ross(es).

i, however, don’t have the patience it takes to shop in the middle two. the racks/hangers/areas kind of intimidate me, and i become confused and it’s an ugly mess.

also, i’m sure that whatever you fixed the daddy of boo, and boo himself, was deelish, since it started with the grand poobah of pork products!

  7. Elizabeth says:

I am glad to hear I’m not the only one with a Pointless Accessories drawer.

  8. Adorable skirt! I think I might just have to plan a trip to the south so I can visit Boomama’s Steinmart. Forget all the historical stuff, I just fly in, shop, and head home!

  9. Cute Skirt!!! We are getting a Steinmart(s). They are putting it together right now and I am giddy with anticipation:)

  10. I am so the opposite! I horde gift cards! I think I have cards for at least 6 stores in my wallet right now. I don’t really know why I horde them, except they make me feel good. I like knowing I can go into that particular store and buy something, whenever! I also like to think that I will only ever spend them on something special, but I NEVER do! It’s kind of pathetic now that I think about it.

Glad you had fun – and that skirt is perfect. Maybe after I get this baby out of my body I can wear something cute like that again.

  11. No Steinmarts close enough to me, and besides I’m not allowed to buy anymore clothing until I’ve finished losing all my weight. THEN, I’m buying a whole new wardrobe! wooo hoooo!

  12. You are such a hoot! I don’t waste any time with my gift cards either! Love the pic…(and your rug…beautiful!).

    Love, Sarah

  13. very cute! i have a similar denim skirt. love it!

those cds sure look good. can’t wait to enter the giveaway.

  14. Hebrew for HSM2 just kills me!!! Ha ha ha!!

Ahhh and the skirt is beautiful…I think we have a Steinmart’s or three or ten around here :)

And bless your bacon :) I think ‘ll have some, too. and some soup. with whipping cream in it :o)

BTW the Third Day Christmas is among my FAVORITES! Everyone should try to win…it’s really good, y’all!

  15. The skirt is very cute and looks like it will work almost year round. I saw a lady with a similar skirt, white T-shirt and black cardigan and flip flops. Sassy Mom look! Telling us what top you are wearing with your skirt (and your trouser jeans). And are you wearing heels with your trouser jeans?

  16. HI! Did you see that you got a shout out from Beth at LPM today? Just thought you would like to know if you hadn’t seen it yet. By the way – love the podcast. I have a friend from Georgia who sounds JUST like you – same speech patterns and accents. Makes me want to move to the south so I can be a part of the club. :-)

  17. Boomama, I must disagree with you! While that skirt is certainly adorable, it won’t look good on us pear shapes! If I ever got it over my hips, there would be mucho extra fabric around the waist! I just love those straightish skirts, but alas, I will never be able to own one! :( Laurie

  18. Your best posts are when you’re all fired up about everyday things. And that is why I come here :)

But can I also tell you that my heart skipped a little beat when I saw the Thrid Day Christmas music?? 1) because it’s THIRD DAY! and 2) because it’s CHRISTMAS MUSIC!! Woot!

  19. I will just happpen to be in the same city as a Steinmart’s tomorrow evening. Perhaps there will be a little A-line treat in my future. Thank you kindly for the tip! ;)

  20. I just wanted to wish you a very blessed birthday year. Thanks for keeping me amused daily. Blessings.

  21. Cute skirt! Love Third Day by the way, and would definitely like some bacon sent this way!

  22. Great skirt!

It would also look good with, ahem, y’know… flats. RED ones. Red ones that make your foot look skinny, not the ones that make your foot look fat. Maybe a very small kitten heel even.

  23. Um, I’m pre-registering for the Third Day give away.

And…do you wear hose with that skirt, with the boots, or long socks…this is a troublesome issue with skirts and fall. It’s really still too hot for either. I’m just wondering on the shoe-age.

  24. …um, not as in “age of the shoe”, but shoe related properties. That was not a good made up word. But, anyway…

  25. Happy Belated Birthday! One day older, one day closer to Heaven I say. That’s how I deal with all the stuff that I don’t enjoy about growing older. I like the highlighting idea too. So glad that you had a good time shopping today. Thanks for the laughs…I just love your sense of humor.

  26. Everything you just said above made me smile at my computer…..I’m so happy about that skirt that I’m gonna go find me one too. I’ll promptly remove that horrid black belt too. What were they thinking???

Love ya Ms. Boomama. We are anxious for another podcast. Come on…….

  27. Doh! I wish we had a steinmart here! That is just the skirt I could have used for this weekend!

I have been stressing over a highschool reunion outfit…please anyone willing to help head on over to me

    http://www.babydollsandsoccerballs.blogspot.com

    Love the specific location description!!!

  28. i’m ready to play…i LOVE third day…

wish you could have seen my 16-year-old’s face when i asked him to make a video with me about our community to win the Kodak printer…guess i should have worded it differently…

  29. Would you believe that for the first time in my life I have a Steinmart about five minutes away from my house… and I have yet to step foot inside it. And that, a couple weeks ago when my mom was out, we drove past and were remarking on the fact that there was a Steinmart(s) right there, only taking notice because, you know, of YOU, and that we actually were calling it Steinmart(S), as if it was no biggie. Like that was its actual name.

I wonder if I go buy that skirt in my normal size, how long it will be after the Grand Arrival before I can actually wear it? Motivation, maybe?

  30. My kind of skirt, great find!

We used all our gift cards to John Lewis on practical things for the boys over the past year. Oh, and a dustbuster. Yippee.

  31. I love that skirt. It says snappy casual and looking fine all at once. I may have to copy you and get one myself.

  32. I’m a lurker coming out of the closet today because I just had to tell you I CRACKED up when I was reading this entry. I cracked up because going through my head as I was reading this was……..

I wonder where in Steinmarts she found the super cute skirt. I could search for a sweet forever before I find it.

And then I kept reading and saw that you told us! Great minds- and southern girls who love Steinmart- think alike! You are the BEST and I can guarantee you I’ll be at Steinmarts today!

    Blessings to you,
    S

  33. Such fun finds! Sorry I missed out on wishing you a Happy Birthday, but Happy Birthday! ha ha! I can’t WAIT to win a Third Day cd soon!

Now that you talk about gift cards, I’m thinking I may do a little online shopping with a couple I have leftover from Christmas!

    Have a wonderful day,
    Brandi

  34. Very cute, skirt! I am ashamed to say I have never stepped foot into a Steinmart’s. Partly because I have two children under five, and partly because I didn’t know what their clothes were like. And now I see the error of my ways. : ) Happy belated Birthday, BooMama. Thanks for all the laughs!
    Happi

  35. what a crack up. you just keep singing selah. i’m glad to hear i’m not the only lyric deaf person alive. you know that just goes to show you there is a level of creativity the lyricists just have not attained.

  36. You can Big Mama are my new Stacy and Clinton.

  37. Happy Birthday!

I thought high waisted stuff was taboo, per Big Mama…does it not apply to skirts, but only pants? Once again, SO CONFUSED.

What is Steinmart(s)?? Never in my life heard of it. What type of store is it? Obviously it sells clothing, but is it a Macy’s, a Target, a Walmart, a Kohl’s, or TJ Maxx type of store?

And High School Musical 2….can you stand ‘Fabulous’?? If my daughter plays that wretched song ONE MORE TIME I am going to yank the cord out of the wall and then cause it permanent damage. That song is truly bad, so I was wondering YOUR take on it.

  38. Cute skirt, wish we had a Steinmart close. But, we also don’t have Sonic or Chick-Fil-A. Suffer I may…on another note, might want to let you internets know that Josh Groban has a Christmas CD coming out Tuesday as well.

  39. I’m so glad you had a great birthday! We, unfortunately, do not have a Steinmart(s) in our area, however, there is one in Tulsa, which is about 3 hours from here, and I’ll be going there soon! I also just wanted to say that the “blonder” hair totally works to make the wrinkles dissapear. I mean, just look at Kelly Ripa, every couple of years she gets a shade blonder…and a year younger!

  40. Clinton and Stacy from “What Not to Wear” would give you about a million billion snaps for your fashion savy at Steinmart today…

  41. Love that store! Been a while since I’ve been in too …. now I’ve been inspired to take a drive. Cute skirt! Oh and Happy Belated Birthday :)

  42. That is a very cute skirt. I’m tempted to go and buy it and guess what size I might wear next summer, post-baby. Or not. You will enjoy the Third Day CD. I bought it last year and love it.

  43. I downloaded that Third Day Christmas CD last year from iTunes and it is FABULOUS. It is probably my all-time favorite alongside MercyMe’s Christmas Album.

You know, you really should give away something I don’t already have! Hee, hee!

  44. Oh, I love “Nippage and Tuckage for the Flappage.” : )

  45. CUTE SKIRT! And I Hear you on the 4-hundred-and-something percent humidity. It’s like Texas here in PA this week. And it AIN’T purty.

  46. Very cute skirt! I really need to splurge and go shopping for some new cute stuff! I’m tired of looking at what’s in my closet. I wonder if we have a Steinmart here. I’ll have to check!

Can’t wait to enter your drawing for the Third Day cds!

  47. Cute skirt, perfect length and flair. Sigh.

  48. ohmy gosh, what do I have to do to win that CD?!! I may send you my cowbell!

  49. I have that CD! Love it!

Now, if that skirt came in a plus size, it would be near perfect!

  50. Hey, Sophie, I missed your B’day, so Happy Birthday to you! I see you’ve already spent that giftcard & I know that was fun. oooo, I just love giftcards too. I’ll look for that new skirt in church soon.

    Hugs,
    Rhoda

  51. Ooh ooh I will be in the vicinity of a Steinmart(s) 2moro and I may have to search out that adorable skirt. Then we could plan to wear them on the same day (which would be only Sat or Sun for me cause I have to wear pants M-F,argh)and think how cute it is we are twinkies separated by 1200 miles, but together in spirit. You know gift cards cause me to have allergies, they make me itch allover, then once they have been released from my possession the itch stops-I swear it’s magic or else an evil conspiracy by the gift card manufacturers. Oh- and “Selah!” I just love that. You could do a post/poll about how people misinterpret song lyrics.

  52. You DO know that Beth Moore has referenced your blog in her blog??!!??!! Check out her Oct. 3 post!!

  53. While the skirt is adorable, it was the CD that got my attention. Can’t wait till the giveaway. Yay!

  54. Ahh, Steinmart! (sigh) Ours is about to open ANY DAY NOW and I can hardly wait!

  55. Lea Margaret says:

That skirt is very cute. I have not seen it at Stein Mart #1. I was there yesterday looking for something to wear tomorrow to MSU’s homecoming. No luck finding something new to wear to an October football game when the high is to be 90 degrees. Are yall coming?

  56. Can I just say that I am going to be using this saying “(NIPPAGE AND TUCKAGE FOR THE FLAPPAGE)”
    Cute Skirt by the way!

  57. Oh, girl! I thought the same thing about “Selah”!! Thank goodness I wasn’t the only one!
