Sweet Merciful Land Sakes Alive

Today has been JAM-PACKED – I worked for a couple of hours this morning, then had a (very fun, actually) meeting with some friends from church, then had a thing at Alex’s school, then came home and tried to get the little man to rest but he would have NONE OF THAT, THANK YOU, then went to the grocery store and OH MY WORD would you look at this:

Now normally I’m a little OCD about the placement of my groceries in the back of my car: I like all the bags of cold stuff together and all the canned stuff together and all the Cokes and Capri Suns together, and before you start to think that I’ve lost my mind, I’ll just go ahead and confirm to you that YES, YES I HAVE.

But today there was so much stuff that I just threw it in the back of the car and hoped for the best.

Because I’m a rebel like that.

And OH! Miss Jennifer, one of Alex’s favorite people in the world, is back at our Publix and you have never seen a sweeter reunion than when Alex ran into the store earlier this week, made a beeline for her register, threw his arms around her and said, “I’VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH, MISS JENNIFER!” So all is right with his world again.

Anyway, Mama and Daddy are coming in for a visit tomorrow, which means that I need to change sheets and wash towels and, um, CLEAN, but before I bore you with my list of chores, look what was waiting for me when I got home this afternoon:

Lavender! From GiBee! Isn’t that the sweetest?

And it probably goes without saying, but it smells DIVINE. I have a bit of a thing for the lavender, you know.

And by “thing,” of course, I mean “obsession.”

Y’all have a great weekend!

  1. I am loving that lavender! I can almost smell it. Have a great weekend with your parents. :>)

  2. GiBee is the sweetest. So thoughtful and a fabulous gift-giver. Love. Her.

  3. The bestest part–when one can get past the haphazard placement of those groceries, ahem–is the THREE boxes of Diet Coke. That alone almost beats the lavendar… almost. Because the scent of lavendar combined with a Diet Coke over ice might just be what you need after a day like today, and in that case, I’d say they’re pretty equal.

But, oh, those three boxes… what bliss.

  4. wow, seems like a BIGGG shopping trip! At least everything made it home! The lavender is beautiful, enjoy it!

  5. lovely!

enjoy your time with your parents.

    blessings,
    karla

  6. You know, you can cook all sorts of yummy things with that many lavender blossoms – jelly, muffins, biscotti. Kit had a cake recipe on her blog a while back:

  7. Oooh, how sweet of GiBee! I love lavender! I went to a lavender festival once and it was heavenly! Plus, I’ve seen enormous fields of lavender during my travels in France!

I have cleaning to do this weekend too, before my MIL gets here. Wish me luck!

Oh, and if you need any recipe ideas, I’ve got plenty going on at my “Holiday Cooking, Blogger Style” recipe exchange! :)

  8. Flowers were delivered at my house yesterday. A beautiful arrangement. Only NOT for me. For the lady 6 houses down. I’m not sure who I felt worse for: me or the poor delivery man. = ) My husband was very lucky that there are no special dates in this month and that we haven’t had any..um… “discussions” lately. = )

  9. I, too, am quite persnickety about the placement of my groceries. Cold must be with cold, canned items must be on bottom. I spend way too much time placing my Publix bags around the stroller in the back… it’s kind of like my own little Tetris game!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  10. Wow! That lavender is beautiful. What a great gift. I’ll need to remember that the next time I am wandering through a lavender meadow on the way to Big Lots : ) That GiBee is a sweetheart and a super gift giver. I could learn and do learn a lot from her.

  11. Oh, my goodness! You are definitely a hoot!! (and that’s a good thing!)

Hope you don’t mind, but I am going to add you to my blog….you’re an inspiration with all that energy you exude!!

  12. I have an old washtub out in the front of my yard filled with lavender plant. It is wonderful!

I can not even look at the picture. I am shuddering. Those 3 boxes of Diet Coke should be neatly stacked. Bags can not help but be strewn about, but dear sweet woman, you are not helping your OCD by just pitching them in there willy-nilly! Your going to give the rest of us OCD’ers a bad name.

40 lashes with a wet noodle!

  13. If you ever get a chance to come to Dallas, you need to eat at a restaurant called Hibiscus. It is upscale with great food. You would love the dessert. There are several that are served with homemade lavender ice cream. It is light purple and it tastes like lavender smells. Very unusual but very good

  14. I thought everybody arranged their groceries in an orderly manner, in the buggy and in the car. I was SHOCKED to learn they don’t!

  15. Oh, I so understand about the placement of the groceries. I am so OCD about my groceries that I shop at a place where I *get to* bag my won stuff. That way I know it is done just right :).

    Love the lavender!

  16. Oh, I so understand about the placement of the groceries. I am so OCD about my groceries that I shop at a place where I *get to* bag my own stuff. That way I know it is done just right :).

    Love the lavender!

  17. You’re totally a woman after my own heart on the groceries…I purposely do the “self check-out” line so I can bag my own. Cold stuff goes together, pantry boxes all go together, jars go together, fruits and veggies together, etc. etc…

…and then no human checker gets to ask me, “Would you like this king-size Snickers and cold bottle of Coke to be kept out separately?”

  18. What a preety arrangement of lavender!
How sweet of her to give it to you!
    :o)
    Have a great day!
    -Tessa

  19. Oh, I have a thing for it too. I can’t get it to grow for me though. boo hoo. So, I just keep the dried bouquets my mother in law grew before she died. Lavender reminds me of her. : )

  20. Not only must it smell good, but it looks wonderful!!!

  21. Stopping by to wish you a belated happy birthday – I thought it might get lost in the other post with all those other well-wishers. oxox

  22. That looks so lovely! I need to find me some to put in my house. I suppose I could just go outside and cut some from my yard.

  23. Really?? You like Lavender? I’m quite sure that no one could have guessed that! LOL!

Your blog is such a blessing, my dear! To me, and to many, MANY others.

  24. Except for the diet Coke that pile of groceries looks like mine….
