I was going to post about this last night, but quite frankly I was having too much fun reading your comments about how I need to make sure to wear red shoes! no, wait – kitten heels! no, wait – metallic shoes! no, wait – THESESHOESRIGHTHEREJUSTCLICKONTHELINK.
Y’all crack me up.
Oh – and before I go any further with this post – let me just say that you do not ever, EVER have to worry that I will go out in public without, as Tim Gunn says, “proper foundation garments.” Don’t you even lose a wink of sleep over that one.
Because as a person who has been known to SLEEP in my foundation garments when we have company OR when I’m visiting a friend’s house (you just never know when there might be cause to jump up and run out of the house in the middle of the night, and if there is, heaven forbid, some kind of emergency, the last thing I want to do is unleash my unsupported somebodies on an unsuspecting houseguest or host), the foundation garment opt-out is nowhere – NOWHERE – on my radar.
Also: the internets seemed to overwhelmingly favor the red shoe option. I was all for the red shoe option, but I had a really hard time finding some good red shoes in my size. I found the peep-toe red shoes at Target, and they are adorable, but I couldn’t find any necklace / earring combo that worked, and I went back and forth as to whether or not the shoes were dressy enough.
The Target silver peep-toes were great-looking, too, but I didn’t think they were very comfortable. I also found some snazzy burgundy shoes at Kohl’s, but they only had half a size smaller than what I wear. For a few minutes I contemplated throwing caution to the wind and just PINCHING MY FEET FOR FASHION, but I knew I’d be miserable within an hour.
But wait! I have even MORE boring shoe information to share!
I tried a zebra print shoe at Steinmart, but I couldn’t keep it on my foot (have I ever mentioned my abnormally high arches? No? Well, I have abnormally high arches. They go beautifully with my unusually small ear canals, which I will mention again and again and again because they’re the only “unusually small” part of my person).
There was also a red suede wedge at Steinmart that I loved deeply and completely from the moment I saw it, but again – not dressy enough.
And just so you know? There’s no doubt that the red suede wedge is going to haunt me. It’s going to show up in my dreams and call my name and remind me how TOTALLY ROCKIN’ it would be with trouser jeans.
I’m trying to be strong, y’all.
But the flesh is so weak.
Especially when cute shoes are involved.
So, after trying on countless pairs of wedges, peep-toes, platforms and pumps, I found this pair of shoes at TJ Maxx. They’re a deep burgundy color, and because they have a little bit of a platform, they’re actually really comfortable.
Ready?
Here we go:

I have no idea on the accessories. I just know that I don’t want to wear pearls, and I also know that clear beads blend into my skin and render me even more pale than usual.
But she shoes? Sassy.
Kicky, even.
And – unexpectedly – comfy.
I feel we’re making progress.

SSSAAAAAASAY! And might I add they look like State-colored shoes to me! You will look great!
Love ya!
MC
I am LOVIN’ those shoes !!!
You will ROCK those shoes! Excellent choice.
DYNO-MITE!! Love it Boo. The shoes to me was the hard part…you’ll be fine with the jewelry…i am the simple kind of girl though and don’t want you to overdo it…keep it simple, yet stylish, yet trendy and S-A-S-S-Y. BC that is who we are girls!
Wow, those shoes make me almost wish I had a life! They are fantastic!!!
Perfect – that is an ELEGANT combination!
They are even better than your description last night. Well done.
Perfect! Love ’em. What about a fancy schmancy looking silver necklace and earring set? I have this one necklace (of course, picked out by my personal fashion consultant mama) that has three “tiers” so to speak (lengths) with lots of silver loopy ringy things that, in my un-fashion-savvy mind, would look just adorable with the slightly-higher-than-the-picture neckline on that dress. And some dangly loopy earrings… But again, don’t listen to me, I don’t do my own shopping. ;)
Fabulous!
Perfectly Lovely!
Dear, you are sassy no matter what you wear. It’s just who you are.
tanzinite jewlery (isn’t that that pewter color?) Big chunky jewlery. RIght now costume jewelery is a BIG hit. Big over the top rings, and sparkly jewlery. :P
Wow! I love those shoes … but I could never wear them. Sad for me … Yay for you.
How about black crystals? Or black crystals and pearls? Silver would be kicking, too.
You have unusually high arches, too? I though I was the only one those. They look pretty, but they’re absolutely useless. And very frustrating when it comes to shoe shopping. Even worse, I’ve passed them on to all my children, rendering cheap children’s shoes completely useless to me. I have to pay big bucks for the shoes now, because none of my kids can get normal cheap stuff on their feet. (Yep, those arches are THAT freakish.)
And did I mention that many pairs of boots are dead to me because I can’t get my arch in them?
Pretty feet are a curse, my friend.
But you found some right sassy shoes to accentuate yours, so well done!
One more thing…. no pearls. Unless they are BIG studdded pearls. Betsey Johnson has these KILLER BIG peral like earings with a light hue of a cheetah* print on them, then they are surrounded by mini diamonds. They would look SOOOOO goos with those shoed! I’l try to find a photo! :)
*They may sound ugly.. trust me…. THEY’RE NOT!!!!!
Gorgeous! What size are they? May I borrow them please?
I saw a multistrand glass bean necklace at Ann Taylor Loft that are about the same color as those shoes. Might be the perfect thing. Hold on:
Shoot. It’s not on their website. But I snuck over to AnnTaylor.com and found this one. You okay with gold? Seems like it’d be right with your coloring. To me.
Look here.
Great pick.
Now you need some bling. A plain gold necklace would do lovely….maybe with a Ruby in the center? That would be classy.
Pretty and at 5’1″, I think that those are half of my height!
You hit it out of the ballpark with those. Great pick!
Rats. Seems nobody took the Chinese characters up the backs of the legs suggestion. How about dyeing your arm hair the same shade of red as your shoes? Natural accessories.
THAT is a good red shoe color. Not for small children or you know THOSE women as my grandmother would say. Nope. THAT is a good red.
At this point, you could wear any necklace and look good. :>)
And I am totally made fun of because I wear a robe when company comes.
You could totally rock a tiara. And maybe a fuzzy feather boa.
BooMama… I OWN THOSE SHOES! My roommate and I went shopping a few weeks ago and I bought that exact pair. My roommate bought a pair the same color, but a different style. She wears gold with hers, but I wear silver jewelry. Both of us have fun, chunky jewelry.
Nice choice. :D
OH, and since you decided to go with a peep toe, I’m glad you didn’t opt for Thom McAn. Peeping Thoms just would not do.
I slay me.
Garnets would compliment those shoes quite nicely.
Great shoes! But I would flat out fall flat out! :) And I too have unusually high arches I was told a few months ago. Which means I have to wear these really ugly arch support thingies. That I don’t wear. Until my feet start hurting. Again. Anyway, you are going to look FABULOUS!!!!
those are adorable!!!!
you will rock!!!
I do like those shoes!!!And I had to laugh that you brought up the unusually small ear canals…hee hee. That was a funny post.
I’m sure you’ll look good in whatever you wear!!
Those shoes are gorgeous! I think a nice dark metal and bead necklace would look nice.
I love the shoes beyond words. They really make me want to post pictures of my gorgeous ANN TAYLOR BLACK LACE PUMPS from last year. Bought them for a Christmas function. Then decided they were so cute (and expensive) that we needed to bring them out so folks could “ooh” and “ahhh” more often. I’m considering using them as a candy dish or the Christmas tree topper. I’m just saying…
Love the shoes…absolutely love them. I’m with you on the unleashing my betty’s in public…no way no how, but I sure thought it was a hysterical way to make an impression in Nashville :)
*gasp* I DID read your mind!!! Love them, Boomama! Great work, can’t wait to see what else you pull together!!
GORGEOUS shoes!! Well done.
I totally agree with Jeana that you should wear a tiara. I have a newfound love for tiaras. They make you feel splendid.
In case you’d rather just wear a knock-out necklace, I found this on ebay for $10. I think you’d look lovely.

And you won’t be wearing hose with those?? Won’t that kill your feet?
Cuuuuuute! My personal fave accessories with a little black dress are pearls, but I think the general rule of thumb is either do big earrings and a small (or no) necklace, or a big necklace and small earrings. I don’t know if that helps at all though *laugh*
Oooooh – classy – go girl!
those shoes are amazing!! love. them.
blessings,
karla
I love, love, love the shoes. They are so “now”. What about a purse. They’re showing tons of patent leather in that color.
BooMama, I have high arches too! I feel your pain.
Great choice on shoes. Have a blast and strut your stuff.
Love the shoes. And as one with a couple of big girls…I’m know all to well that the foundation garments are a must!!!!! You’ll look great, have an even better time!!
Didn’t Shannon just spotlight some great jewlery makers — why not go for funky one of a kind beadwork stuff????
Great shoes– I knew I didn’t have to worry about you!
As to earrings and necklace, what about a garnet colored stone? I think it would be beautiful. I can’t wait to see you all pulled together!
You need your people to call their people and arrange a stash of real jewellery from some prestigious jewellers like they do for Oscar night – you are after all Boomama…
Oh, PERFECT shoe choice! Can’t wait to see what you pick out in the line of jewels.
To my fellow high arch sista, those shoes rock! I am too tall to even consider them – wear them for all the desperate housewives at home!
I’ve gotten caught up in this fashion talk and have decided to give a tip–which I rarely do in the fashion realm–and that is to buy some Natural Glow daily moisturizer at Wal-Mart or Walgreens and start using it TODAY and by the time of your event, you’ll have nicely tinted legs so you won’t have to worry about hose. Also, Clinique self-tanner is good but way more expensive. I love those shoes but am leery about the high-heels especially since you’ll be on your feet. (I also have a high instep.)
Those are fantastic!
Awesome choice! They are perfect. Can’t wait to see what jewelry you put with it!
Oh Wow! Those are some seriously SLAMMIN’ shoes! I’m so glad all your hard work paid off! Have fun showing those off!
I haven’t read through the comments, but has anybody mentioned Lia Sophia jewelry? I LOVE their stuff and you could find some incredible pieces to go with those shoes. I think it’s http://www.liasophia.com
Too Cute.
As for the suede wedge… I had a similar relationship with some green suede wedges (from payless a couple years ago), and went back twice before I bought them. They look AWESOME with my trouser jeans. But my friend calls them “capitalist shoes” because you want to keep buying other things to go with them. And I do.
GREAT shoe choice! Those are very swanky. ;) I wish they were mine. :)
L O V E the shoes. Definitely need a killer beaded necklace. I can’t believe SteinMart(s) wouldn’t have just the thing. You’ll be so chik.
I like the shoes, and if I were not 700 or so miles away, I would totally let you borrow my necklace that would be “oh so perfect” with this dress. Man…I wish I was closer!
You go girl. Hot Mama shoes if I’ve ever seen any. Is the URL hotmama.net available? You’re gonna need it.
:-)
Can’t go wrong with some gold cheap bangles…yes I said bangles….from Target or somewhere. Do that and some gold hanging earings. No necklace. A lady never OVER accessorizes. Ha.
WooWoo Boomama. You’ll be stylin and profilin’ at the Big Fest Thing! Saassssy shoes and all. I’m voting for a chunky metallic necklace and a sleek patent clutch. just sayin’
VERY stylin’ shoes. I would likely get a nose bleed way up there…but I’m used to the ‘practical MOM’ flats!!!!!
I think THIS necklace would be lovely. Is it a V-neck dress? http://www.target.com/Xhilaration-Couture-Faceted-Jeweled-Necklace/dp/B000Q8SI50/qid=1192030689/ref=br_1_12/602-1680884-1463039?ie=UTF8&node=296011011&frombrowse=1&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=296011011&rank=%2Bdaterank&rh=&page=5
(those links WILL go on forever, won’t they?) This would add some sparkle without introducing another ‘shade’ of red/burgundy.
Being Canadian I have never been into a Target store…but they look to have a great selection!
I would pick some big oblong white or black fake cubic zirconia style earrings to match the necklace and call it an outfit!
Have fun!
I love the shoes- I am a huge fan of Ann Taylor Loft jewelry-trendy and classy- somewhat affordable- get you a coupon to save 15% and go get a silver/black beaded ensemble- But I also like that necklace from Ann Taylor that somebody mentioned above. Those shoes are gonna look great with jeans for a christmas party!!! You go Girl!
Those shoes are lickable. Hey, who said that??
So far, so good! Those shoes are beautiful. I could not wear them (flat feet and tendonitis) but omg they are gorgeous. And Tim would say do not over-accessorize also. I’m with Meg on that one. A great clutch and a bangle for your arm and you are good to go. Maybe some little bitty sparklies in your ears. Because the SHOES and the DRESS speak for themselves.
I laughed so hard when I saw the initials for your destination. BFD!! – hilarious!
Hugs,
Marie
p.s. I would also wear hose. But that’s because I couldn’t wear shoes without them.
Boomama,
I also have really high arches. On wide, size 6 feet. My feet are terribly attractive… [:(
Love the shoes. What about a ruby or garnet on a chain–BIG ruby or garnet.
Just what size is that sassy black dress? Uh huh, you need to change your title to Hot mama…Boo mama doesn’t do that dress justice.
Those shoes are smokin’ – Great choice! Here, Here for girls with high arches!! :) At least something is still high nowadays…
-Andrea
High arches…apple shape. Where will the similarities end???? Luuurve the shoes, Doll.
Yup. High arches and bunions. I cry every time I go in DSW because I can’t wear a single shoe. I’m destined to spend my life in Dr. Scholls. (Not really, but I do complain about it a lot.) The shoes rock – you get an A+!
You forgot sexy. Those are killer shoes. Good choice.
You go girl! Love the shoes!
Boomama, is it all right if I have you blog about any clothing I wish to buy for my wife? I feel like your readers would give better feedback than what I currently get from Earl and Festus at my office.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes. I recommend heading to THE BUCKLE to get accessories. I would take the shoes with me and see what they have ;0)
Woo-hoo!! Those shoes are perfect! I am with you on the undergarments. I wore a bra to my emergency c-section. The nurse said she was goin to cut it off so she could put on the heart monitors. I begged her not too!
Love the shoes! With fall accessories in every store, you are surely to find accessories to go along with it very quickly!
You are going to be one HOT BooMama!
I just gotta know if Scott REALLY works with a dude named Festus. SERIOUSLY? “Alrighty, Marshall Dillon. I reckon I might need tuh run on over tuh Doc’s place for some medsin, but Miss Kitty’ll be mighty put out if yer late agin.”
LOVE the shoes!!! My mom has a beautiful long strand of gold/glass beads that you could double strand-would be beautiful. Will bring for you to try!! Can’t wait to walk around in those “there’s no place like home” shoes!!!!!The red suede wedge — so going to find those!!!!!!!
Your gonna have to change your name to Hot Mama after you were those shoes.
Your gonna look great…I mean Hot
Oh my! Those shoes made me a little weepy!
Amazing shoes! And of course I wasn’t the first person to think you need chunky garnet joolz.
How long do I have to get those to you? I’ll be sending you a pic… ;)
I agree with Fried Okra. The necklace she picked would go perfect if it is in your price range.
THOSE are great. I’m in love. I agree with those who suggested looking at the Loft for jewelry. They always have pretty things that aren’t too pricey. I like the garnet idea too.
UH-HUH I love them love them love them – they will also go great with anything grey you might possibly need to dress up :) good choice
Looks like my first reaction (and last one) is the same as everyone elses…..LOVE. THE. SHOES!!!!!
I like it better than red. Great decision.
Great shoes! I liked the idea of the gold bangles and all. Again, keep us posted!
This is fun, kind of like we’re a community of Stacy and Clintons – or ya’ll are, anywhere. I r a fashion retard. But I’m learning!
You reached a new high in your bloggity goodness. I just read a personal reference to BOOMAMA (the one and only) on the LPM blog about those awesome jeans of Angela Cottrell’s. When will we see you on tour with her?
LOVE THEM, Boomama! They are smokin’!! Oh, and so is the Monk & Neagle CD I just bought at Mardel for $6.99 (no, not a typo)!!!! So, if anyone has a Mardel close by, you can pick it up for that astonishingly discounted price and enjoy you some musical genius!! It is an absolute blast to listen too and I’m thrilled that you, Sweet Boomama, told your internets about it!! (sorry, had to comment about the greatness of it, you closed the comments to that interview post about them) But, back to the shoes-they are beauties and I’m sure will make you sas your way through the party!
I love the outfit and I’ve looked at google images trying to find some accessories for your little black dress. Man there are some wild things on google images!
Here’s a link with some ideas for jewelry. Look for the strand of pink pearls!
http://www.jltimelessjewelry.com/artnouveau_deco.html
You know I love the shoes, that goes without saying. But I wanted you to know that I had a true laugh out loud moment when I read “unleash my unsupported somebodies”.
