“Mama, is it still spring?”

“Mama, I don’t have any syrup on my waffles.”

[makes random truck-type noises]

“Mama, why is all this stuff on the chair in my playroom?”

“Mama, I dropped my fork.”

“Mama, when C. comes over to play, can he take a turn on the Wii?”

“Mama, do I need to wash my hands?”

[more random truck-type noises]

“Mama, can you help me?”

“Daddy, can I have an upside down hug?”

“Mama, I had a bad dream.”

“Mama! I put my clothes on!”

“Mama and Daddy, there were two policemen in my dream, and they dropped us in a hole. But then they got us out of the hole, and they said, ‘HEY, BUD,’ and oooooh, that was a close one.”

“Daddy, this is broken.”

“Daddy, did you fix it? WOOOOOOO!”

“Daddy, can I play Mario Party 8 when I get home from school? PLEEEEEEEEEEASE?”

“Daddy, are you taking me to school today? WOOOOOO!”

“Bye, Mama!”

[more random truck noises]

“I love you, Mama!”

And I love you, too, sweet boy.

  1. Don’tcha just love ’em?

  2. I never get tired of hearing my kids say “mama”…well, that’s a lie. I do. BUT…most days, it is SO special to me. :) {Just keepin’ it real}

  3. I swear some days I’m going to change my name. But then I know I’d change it right back.

  4. Looks a lot like reading Twitter to me.

  5. Very cute! My favorite is, “Daddy, can I have an upside down hug?”

Sometimes I think I should be following my son around with our camcorder to try to capture some of the sweet and off-the-wall running dialogues he has with himself and with us! :)

  6. My favorite one today was, “Mama, I’m gonna have a little party on this footstool, okay?”

    Well, okay, dear!

  7. Ohhhhhh how I miss those moments and that chatter!!!!! Especially this morning as my heart is hurting for my teenage son who has some tough decisions to make today. At this moment I would give a lot to hear those truck sounds again…..

  8. How cute and so sweet! I miss those days but can’t wait until my grandson starts talking!

  9. I love the random truck sounds in there. Little boys are awesome!!

  10. It’s not so much what they say; it’s that they’re there to say it with such a depth of love that gets me most days.

  11. Oh, I long for the day of non-stop SENTENCES rather than the constant repetition of the same word! :-)

  12. Just a heads up – all the truck noises will be replaced with drumming and pounding out a rhythm that only they can understand. Sigh

  13. Ahhh… I love the upside-down hug one, too. So sweet.

  14. For the life of me, I just cannot figure out where Howard gets his chatter from. ;)

  15. Ahhh, the sounds of home!

Enjoy your quiet dear Sister. Praying for it to be full of refreshing times!

  16. Those are some of the most priceless conversations a human can have. how sweet!!

  17. Leslie George says:

It has become a joke of sorts, that my 9 year old son begins every address to me with “Mama”, and ends every address to me with “Mama”. ie: “Mama, where is my Lego, Mama?” :)

  18. Here’s the neat thing about being called Mama:
To this day (and my kids are 34 and 32 yrs.old) when I am in a store and hear a child whimper”Mama” I jerked my head around and for a split mili-second, I think I’m being called and my heart races! Weird, isn’t it??

  19. The precious part?

    It never stops.

Jonathan is 14 and could still considers words more critical than air.

But, to have him still call me “Vaba?” (he couldn’t say mamma when he was little) is PRICELESS.

  20. Now… times that by three and you’ll have my mornings!!

    mom, mom,mom,mom,mom,mom…..

  21. Twitter for the preschool set. “You only need Mom for hours of enjoyment!”

  22. Leanne from Canada says:

Heelarious…..try to enjoy it!! We’re at the stage right now with my teenage son who says…”you don’t need to talk to me!”…most mornings. (I often forget!!)…this too will pass.

  23. Tiffany says:

I cant wait for the little girl I watch have moments like that. Right now she is still trying to talk, but I cant wait for those fun thoughts going through he little mind.

  24. Like mama, like son maybe?? ;}

  25. Have you ever thought about if we charged by the question? Although, sometimes it’s just a statement–the same statement! Love it! When I became Mom–instead of Mama or Mommy! Sigh!

  26. Gotta love the randomness of a little boy. Sounds like my house in the morning too!

  27. So this is just a stream of consciousness? Yes I see it is – Howard was consciously affirming, He belongs to YOU (and vice versa) –

  28. Mommy, I have a hair on me. Get it off!

(So I went back in his room at school/day-care and got a littel dog hair off his shoe.)

    [random truck noises]

    There’s a monster.

    Over there.

I’m going to get that monster.

    [random fighting/crashing noises]

    ***

Yeah – I can relate… all to well.

  29. Precious!!!

  30. Those are so sweet and cute. I love to hear the “nice” mamas spoken. It’s totally different soundwise when there are 3 and they are CONSTANTLY fighting amongst themselves, “not so nice mamas”! Even my hubs calls me mama 1/2 the time.

  31. Well – they do say the apple never falls far from the tree. Does he remind you of anyone?

  32. Don’t you just love boys? This makes me so happy that as of 5:00 today, I will be a SAHM again!

  33. Isn’t it amazing what all can take place before 8:00 in the morning??!!

  34. Could you PLEASEEEEEEEEE show me how to make my Twitter updates appear in a box that way???

  35. Love that! Mine does the same thing, only replace the random truck noises with human instrument sounds. Guitar, drums, beatbox, kazoo. You name it.

  36. Precious.

  37. Oh, I just love your blog! I’ve been reading for a while and had to comment this time, because I just posted the same thing on mine about my sweet little almost-four-year-old boy, who in less than one minute told me he wants to be called “Tyson, The Brave,” and how killer whales are actually orcas, and then made a rooster noise in my ear. :) So fun!

  38. “Mama, do I need to wash my hands”????? I must say, that’s one I never heard. Even with five kids. You’re doing something right!

  39. My youngest wakes up talking and goes to sleep in mid sentence. I have to tell him that sometimes Mommy’s ears can’t keep up!

  40. How sweet! I get that same type conversation byt times two almost constantly. I try to enjoy it, but sometimes I’d rather not :)

  41. Um, I totally believe it.
And I’m sorry. I can see that this was before 8am. Hopefully it wasn’t before your first cup of coffee, because sweet mercy, that is alot of questions. :)
I mean that, of course, in the best way. I have 3 children, five and under. One of those is a girl who talks incessantly. I confess, sometimes I just turn the radio louder. I cannot be expected to know everything. I never signed on for that.

However, this is a sweet sweet post anyway. And so are chatty babies. :)
