Well, we’re home.
And I’m still in just a little bit of that post-beach fog. You know, the fog where you wake up and miss the water and the sand and then you wish that there were forty-five restaurants within rock-throwing distance where people would happily serve you all manner of seafood.
Unless you get to one of those restaurants around 7:00 at night, at which point you have better odds of turning into a fish than sitting down at a table and being served one.
The neatest part of the whole trip was that we got to see our families so much. In addition to David’s brother’s family being there, my aunt, uncle and cousins were right down the road, and we spent almost every afternoon at their place. Their condo had a bunch of pools – complete with elaborate water slides – so it was pretty much Kid Heaven. The little man had a blast playing with his cousins.
And I had a blast finding new and inventive ways to protect myself from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.
This was officially the vacation where Alex fell in love with every single aspect of a beach trip: the waves, the sand, the sun, the sunsets, the pools, the cheese sticks at The Oyster Bar, the family, the sleeping late, the whole deal.
And it was heavenly. Every single bit of it.

oh welcome back home….hopefully your transition to “normalness” will be smooth! the beach is tough competition, tho! :)
It’s funny, maybe only to me, but I was SO looking forward to our week and the beach but I was literally thrilled this morning as I packed the car to return home.
I’m sure Monday morning I will be totally ready to return to the sun and sand.
Welcome home! That post vacation fog is a killer. I recommend easing back into the craziness of every day very slowly…with lots of sleeping in and eating out!
Glad y’all had a great time.
I LOVE the pic of A! What joy and exuberance there in his effort to get to the water. :-)
I can’t believe he starts school in a month or so!
xoxoxo
Diane
Welcome home!
Howard is getting too, too big. Sigh. Can you believe I look UP at Jonathan now. He looks over my head. All in the last month.
So glad you got away and saw family- totally rejuvenating, isn’t it!
Hooray for vacation. Glad it was wonderful and you’re back home safely!
I am new to your site.
Glad you had such a nice vacation with your family.
I’m so glad you had an great time, Sophie!
Your after 7pm at a restaurant sounds like a few of our Joe’s Crab Shack experiences. Yet, we still go back. WHY? I have no idea. I think it is to get familiar with all the playground germs–very familiar!
Precious…
xoxo
Missed you!
Welcome home!
Savor those memories!
Truly nothing quite as sweet as watching a little boy play on the beach, playing keep away with the waves. Sweet, sweet! Glad it was all you were dreaming of.
I like how the pic looks like he’s walking on air!
Oh wow! He looks so grown!
Glad you had a good time! Welcome home!
Awwww! I want to be at the beach!
So glad you guys had a great time.
So happy for you. Well deserved. Relaxation and enjoying the family–that’s what it’s all about.
i’m sorry. are his feet off the ground? :) priceless.
glad you’re back. can i come next time? i could use some beach time. and i get along really well with family.
Oh, that does sound heavenly. So glad you had a wonderful time away with your family. What a blessing!
I’m so very jealous — I haven’t seen the gulf coast in a year…. wait, longer. I’m going, that does it. Oh, wait, I don’t like the heat…..I’ll go in October. It’s great in October!
Great beach pictures.
Love your description of that restaurant at 7 pm.

Thank you for the summary of my best vicarious vacation ever! Restful, family, ocean, seafood – yep -a glad time was had by all!
If you squint, you can almost see his wings.
Sounds so wonderful. Even waiting for a table at one of those restaurants…
It sounds relaxing and invigorating at the same time. I *love* those kinds of vacations, too.
For us, once we the canoe season is over, we’re heading to Washington, DC to see the Smithsonian’s museums. They’ve got the country’s largest collection of dinosaur fossils.
Can you tell I’ve got a 5 1/2 year old boy? :)
Welcome home. I am glad you had such a good time. Coming back to reality is always so hard after vacation. I feel for you…
Good luck with the transition back to sand-free, wave-less life. At least you’ve got restaurants! So glad you had such a wonderful time with the family. We are getting so excited for our trip to the beach with the cousins. We’re at an area on the Outer Banks which, apparently, is fairly secluded so it’s quite the drive to the restaurants. So we’re cooking for each other. At least we each only have to do one night. And we’re all good cooks. And we don’t have to do the 7:00 restaurant thing. Unless we really want to. That’s what I’ll keep telling myself… :)
Well, we are all so glad that you are back AND that you had a great time. My goal is to get bored with being out of school before my classroom opens up in August! Sound like you have a headstart on me…
We just got home from our beach vacation yesterday, too. It was the easiest trip yet with all 3 boys. No diapers, bottles, strollers or any of that fun stuff! I could actually see out of the back window of our minivan!
The kids all got in the water, and only protested against the sand for a few minutes. Then all was well, until Tropical Depression/Storm/Whatever Cristobal showed up :-( Well, at least we fot four or five days of sun. The rain gave us an excuse to see “The Dark Knight!”
Welcome back! Glad you enjoyed your vacation. We went to the Gulf for our honeymoon, it was an enjoyable time :)
Most people are going to hate me when I say this, I live across the street from lake michigan and we haven’t been to the beach yet.
Please tell the name of the condo with the pools and the slides. Was it in Destin??? I….need…to…go…there!!! (no one needs to know that I have already been there once this summer:) )
I’m coming out of my lurker status (I think…I can’t remember if I’ve ever commented) to say that that picture is AMAZING!! I had to take a second look at it to really see what’s happening.
Glad you had a great time. I live on the Texas gulf coast and haven’t been to the beach in forever. I’ve always said I hate the beach, but reading your posts and looking at the pictures, I can’t remember why.
Oh, I am so curious where you guys were?? We just came back from Santa Rosa Island next to Pensacola Beach and it was a dream! And I woke up! Your pictures look way so familiar! So happy for you that it was all you hoped…
I love your blog voice. And after taking you workshop at She Speaks it’s so great to have a face next to your text!
We just got back from 2 weeks away. There is something about water that can ground you and fill you with God’s peace.
I know the feeling, I recently returned from the Cayman Islands and I miss it! I am going to Florida in September to Clearwater beach so I will get another ocean fix soon!!
I love that Alex’s feet are OFF the ground, how sweet is that??
Welcome home.
Beautiful! What a great shot of Alex. He’s getting big! Glad you enjoyed your vacation. Sounded perfect!
Look how tall he’s getting! This is the perfect photo to wrap up a great vacation.
I’d like to crawl right into my computer screen and join him. Sigh.
Hi Boomama, I know how much you love Christian music and I just had to share this with you. Our pastor mentioned The Revelation Song during services yesterday and I searched for it on youtube and discovered Kari Jobe. Have you heard of her? She is AWESOME! I think you would enjoy her music a lot, so I just had to share. You can see my post about her that has the video of her song (http://makelifedelicious.blogspot.com/2008/07/kari-jobe.html) and an interview and she also has a website http://www.karijobe.com
I hope you enjoy as much as I have! Sunshine
Hi Boomama, New to your blog. Did you notice that your son appears to be floating over the sand what a cool effect!
Liz
It sounds like you had a great vacation and the SEC posts were too funny. My sister and brother in law, ofcourse, do not miss a State game. When Jackie Sherrill left, for a couple of years she said she just wished Sylvester Croom would put on the sweater vest and she would be alright. She has now gotten over the lack of sweater vest and has embraced Sylvester and all his glory.
Blessings,
Trixi
What a great picture! I would probably blow that one up and hang it somewhere in my house. I’m still waiting to see your photos of the MSU signs in the sand. Or else how you decorated the Ole Miss one!Don’t you just love the Original Oyster House? I love to go there during peak hours just for all the shopping!
What a great vacation. I love how you describe it. I think we have been gone more than we have been home this summer! It’s been so fun though. It would be nice to know where the hotel is with the pools and slides, because it sounds like a place my kids would enjoy. We went to Destin earlier in the summer and my son is there now with a friend (and the momma and daddy)!!
Hi, BooMama – Oh my goodness – your Alex could be mine! What a cute picture! I love that he is airborn. I can’t ever get an action shot like that. Anyways, I wish I could put a pic of my Alex from behind here to show you! lol
Boomama, Alex is getting so tall!
Glad you had fun! I love it when kids are enjoying themselves! The UV ray thing doesn’t sound so hot, though . . .
