While I recognize that the title of this post might lead you to believe that the choir pulled some sort of practical joke at church yesterday morning, that is not the case at all, my friends.
Please do allow me to explain, oh thank you.
About three years ago I gave the husband a CD called “Hymned” by Bart Millard, the lead singer of Mercy Me. And we were crazy about the CD the very first time we listened to it. I loved being able to play Bart’s CD-o-hymns in the car with my little fella – who, if memory serves, was around two years old at the time. And even though the words to “Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior” were a little complex for his two year-old vocabulary, Alex did some mean bouncing in his car seat every time he’d hear that melody.
Anyhoo.
When I found out a few months ago that there was going to be a follow-up CD called “Hymned Again,” I was tickled to death. If you’ve read here for any length of time you know that THE MUSIC, I ADORE IT, and the old hymns are especially dear to my heart. Maybe it’s because I learned them when I was a child and the lyrics just get richer with time, or maybe it’s because I love singing the words that believers have been singing for generations, or maybe it’s because there’s so much rock-solid doctrine contained within four verses and a chorus. Regardless, I firmly believe that the old hymns are a treasure we need to intentionally share with our families.
So. If you’d like to win one of ten autographed (FANCY!) copies of “Hymned Again,” leave me a comment and tell me your favorite hymn. If you’re not so familiar with hymns, then just tell me your favorite song (in other words: no church-y background required to win).
And if you’d like a little hint of the musical goodness on this CD, you can watch the clip below.
This giveaway will be open until tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 central time, at which point I’ll close the comments and Mr. Random Integer Generator will select our ten winners.
Have fun, y’all!
This giveaway is now closed.

Great is Thy Faithfulness.
Hands down.
Well, and “It is well”, “How Great Thou Art”, and absolutely “Jesus Paid it All”
ok that’s all…
But wait, there’s more…
but I’ll spare you my mile long list.
The text does seem to get richer with time and doctrinal understanding, doesn’t it?
Oh. my. goodness. If I wasn’t married, and Bart wasn’t married, and he wasn’t a big star, and I wasn’t a little nobody, why I’d marry him! Never in my life have I seen anyone who has the most amazing voice AND the silliest sense of humor – how can you not love Cover Tune Grab Bag?!
By far the greatest ever is one from Bart himself, Mammaw’s Song (in the Sweet By and By)from the 1st Hymned album.
My favorite is Great is Thy Faithfulness.
“Be Thou My Vision”–ESPECIALLY the third verse!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Boy…there are a lot of comments. I would have to say It Is Well With My Soul. I especially love the line…My sin, oh the bliss of the glorious thought. My sin, not in part, BUT THE WHOLE. Is nailed to HIS cross and I bear it no more–PRAISE THE LORD, PRAISE THE LORD, oh my soul!
I also love Great Is Thy Faithfulness.
Whiter than Snow
“Savior like a Shepherd Lead Us”
“Uncloudy Day”
Tis so sweet and Come Thou Fount. I LOVE hymns. I’m so grateful for the artists who are bringing them back!
Jenny from VA
How Great Thou Art.
Great Is Thy Faithfulness gives me goose bumps every time I hear it … and I can never sing it without tears streaming down my face.
Amazing Grace. I’ve always loved it, always will. And I’m especially partial to hearing it played on the bagpipes.
I’ll Fly Away and Amazing Grace. Just can’t pick one!!!!
Oooo Hymns. I love hymns. There are so many to love… where do I start?
Be Thou My Vision
Come Thou Fount
Oh the Deep Deep Love of Jesus
Great is Thy Faithfulness
I could go on and on…
Oh, that’s tough; there are so many good ones! But I’ll give it a go.
How ’bout It Is Well With My Soul
and the one that always makes me smile and cry at the same time: I’ll Fly Away.
“This is my Father’s World.” Reminds me that God created this whole universe.
How Great Thou Art-
Love it so much I walked down the aisle to it!
Beautiful Savior or Rock of Ages I would say are the ones I love most off the top of my head.
I love “How Great Thou Art” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, the two we had at our wedding, but “The Old Rugged Cross” always makes me think of my Pop-Pop and his legacy of faith! Thanks!
My favorite hymns are This is My Father’s World and the Doxology. We actually sang a hymn in church Sunday and it made me miss singing in the pew next to mother, harmonizing my soprano to her alto. I think I’m off to iTunes to buy Hymned.
It is hard to say one favorite.. I love the old hymns.
Great is Thy Faithfulness is one and Sweeter, Sweeter Than Them All is a great one too!
My favorite hymn is It Is Well With My Soul. I read “Finding Anna” by Christine Schaub which was about the author of the song, and I’ve never listened to the song the same way again.
My favorite hymn, which was my great-grandmother’s favorite, is “In the Garden.” My husband’s favorites are “The Church in the Wildwood” and “I’ll Fly Away,” and I must admit that these have become some of my top faves, too.
Great is Thy Faithfulness – theme of my life…
I love, love, love Jesus Paid it All – and pretty much any hymn that gets redone – love it :-)
Oh, I have so many favorites! But, it still has to be Amazing Grace at the top of the list.
:)
Great is thy Faithfulness!! Thanks for the giveaway.
come thy fount is one of the favorites…I lOVE hymns!
Wow, it is hard to pick a favorite…How Great thy Art..Holy, Holy, Holy…Come thou Fount…Joyful, Joyful, We adore thee
Hey there! So glad you’re back!
My favorite these days is What a Friend We Have in Jesus. I sing it to my 9 month old almost everyday and last week I had the opportunity to sing it to my mama in the hospital.
Sadly it’s so true. What peace I often forfeit because I don’t always take it to Him in prayer.
I’d have to say “it is well”. At least for the moment. It’s the hymn I’ve been singing to myself lately in this crazy upside down world I’m living in. (Actually, I asked God to make me a sunflower. That doesn’t seem to be working for me, so I’m singing hymns instead.)
How Great Thou Art! My all time favorite!
Thanks so much
I love hymns! Please enter me!!
How Great Thou Art is my alltime favorite! I also love The Old Rugged Cross and Amazing Grace!
Does “His eye is on the sparrow” count as a hymn? Well, it’s the one that has been in my head this weekend.
That would probably be “Of the Father’s Love Begotten,” or “Children of the Heavenly Father,” or “The King of Love my Shepherd Is,” or “Abide with me!”
Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior.
I love “Be Thou My Vision.”
Wow, what a great giveaway!
My favorite hymns have emotional attachments to my family…”Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Be Thou My Vision.” I remember my great-grandmother singing “In The Garden” as she rocked my little sister to sleep.
“I was there to hear your Borning Cry”…makes me cry everytime. Thanks for the giveaway! :)
Oh! I want to win! I’ve been looking at all your hymn recommendations after a friend told me that my daughter, when riding in her car when she was playing hymns, said, “What kind of music is that??” Oh, my lands, I was appalled with myself.
So, my favorite is “It is Well with my soul”!
Great is thy Faithfulness is my fav!
I love Amazing Grace and (not a hymn) I Could Sing of Your Love Forever :)
“Oh, How I Love Jesus” is one of my favorites this week. It changes often!
My favorite hymn is He Hideth My Soul. But I love about a zillion others almost as much.
~Leslie
Just as I am.
Oh Holy night isn’t a hymn, but it is awesome and talks about God. :)
Wow, there are so many good ones and just reading the other comments is a bit like flipping through a hymnal of favorites.
As far as my favorite, I’d have to go with Amazing Grace. I love it more as I experience it more. But oh mercy, I can still hear my grandfather singing The Old Rugged Cross in my ear when I stood on the pew next to him at church as just a little girl. And then there is Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, There’s Just Something About that Name. That’s another one that just means more to me as time goes by.
Oh, how to pick one favorite….What a Friend we Have in Jesus…Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, He’s the Lily of the Valley, The bright and morning star(was my grandmother’s favorite), Victory in Jesus…Don’t know if anyone else said it Jesus Loves Me. All of the verses pack a punch. Thanks for this. I love the new praise songs, but the old hymns don’t need to be totally forgotten…they need to be taught to the young ones…they will loose something wonderful.
Thanks for doing this…oh, how I hope i get picked….if not I may have to go out and buy both cd’s…they sound too good to not have.
Blessings on your week Sophie..
like everyone said, so hard to choose – but always Amazing Grace, and there are many verses not well known. I wish we sang these more in church!!
Oh, this would be so great to win! I always have THE MUSIC playing in my kitchen. You are right, it is a good way to get THE WORD!
My favorite hymn is On Eagle’s Wings, I’ve sung that one as a lullaby to all of my kids. I also love Yahweh, I Know You Are Near.
There are so many great ones…
Sweet Hour of Prayer AND Be Thou My Vision AND Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us. Love them!! Love you!! K
Hey BooMama! I am a first time poster, long time lurker. I love your blog, it’s not just a joyful part of my day, it is like an essential, almost a sustenance… but, well, that’s a little creepy so we will just say I LOVE IT. While on your hiatus I was a very moody girl, I missed my daily Boo laugh or inspiration, just ask my boyfriend! Anyhoo… I have a lot of old hymns that move me, but one that comes to mind is The Old Rugged Cross, mostly because we sing it every year at Easter Sunrise Service and I sit there with my mom, grandma, aunts and friends thinking how wonderful it is to be surrounded by such strong, faithful women absorbing this love from our Father.
Hmmm, I really like Come Thou Fount :)
Be Thou My Vision
Just as I am
Amazing Grace
I love Heavenly Sunlight, The Old Rugged Cross, Saved, and The King is Coming.
Amazing Grace!!!
I had a hard time thinking of a favorite hymn there are so many great ones. I am going to go with Sweet Hour of Prayer. I know my husband’s favorite is In the Garden no question.
On Christ This Solid Rock I Stand. Love the hymn anyway, but particularly like the version 4 Him did of it.
My all-time favorite hymn is “Because He Lives”.
How Great Thou Art
Thanks!
Although I’m sure many people picked this one, I love “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” I would love to have it playing as I walk down the aisle someday when I get married.
I love hymns! I think this is a great give-away. Since others aren’t sticking with just one, I won’t either… I can’t! I love: How Great Thou Art, Great is Your Faithfulness, The Old Rugged Cross. I love, love, LOVE Be Thou My Vision. So many great songs and tunes were written so long ago. I wonder which ones of today’s songs will become tomorrow’s hymns.
I LOVE Hymns! Amazing Grace, I’ll Fly Away, How Great Thou Art ~ I could go on all day. Joy
I love “The Solid Rock”.
Holy, Holy, Holy- love hymn!
I do the full on ugly cry everytime we sing “It is Well Wih My Soul.”
I loved reading through everyone else’s (well 100 or so) choices. Good times.
Thanks for the chance, Mama.
“Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation”
This was played at our wedding, and that makes it extra-special!
Hmmm favorite hymn? I think How Great Thou Art because it makes me cry every time. Singing a love song to my saviour. Nothings better.
Thanks!!!
“What a Friend We Have in Jesus”…
It’s the only one I can still play on the piano.
So many, it’s tough to choose! The one that never fails to make me cry is “You Are Mine” (do not be afraid, I am with you, I have called you each by name….).
Thanks for the giveaway!
I can’t pick just one.
I LOVE “Before the Throne”, “In Christ Alone” and “Be Thou My Vision”.
O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing is my favorite from my childhood.
hands down, it is well with my soul
I love Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
#317 in our Hymnals at church as I was growing up (from elementary through middle school) – The Old Rugged Cross.
I still get chills when I hear the melody worked into an instrumental. Good memories, good words, Great God!
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross and of course…..Amazing Grace!
Thanks for the chance to win!
It’s a tie between “It Is Well With My Soul” and “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name.”
So hard to pick just one! Probably Just A Closer Walk With Thee.
Be Thou My Vision. The theology in the old hymns is so much deeper than the praise songs of today. I like praise songs, but miss the richness of the hymns. Jars of Clay’s Songs of Redemption is a great updated hymns collection.
I love Before the Throne of God Above …
and it’s hard to narrow it to one! Come Thou Fount …
Softly and Tenderly …
I’ll Fly Away …
When We All Get To Heaven …
okay, I’ll stop now, you get the point. I love Hymns!
In the Garden! My all-time favorite!
My Faith Has Found a Resting Place, fer sure!
I love “At the Cross”. It was also my grandmother’s favorite.
Amazing Grace
How Great Thou Art
One Day At A Time
Obviously, I have several.
This is one of the hardest questions I’ve had to answer today! I love, love, love There’s Just Something About That Name. I also love Because He Lives, Lilly of the Valley, In the Garden, and It Is Well. There are really just so many that I love – I could go on and on.
“Because He Lives” is my very favorite hymn!
Amazing Grace gives me chills every time I hear it! I love it!
My favorite is “He Leadeth Me”…Thanks for all the give-aways.
Jesus Paid It All!!
‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus
The Wonderful Cross – not sure if that’s an “Old School” hymn, but I like Chris Tomlin’s version.
Thanks for the preview clip – looks great!
“Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
“Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus”
and “Be Thou My Vision”
By the way, I hope my living in Mexico doesn’t disqualify me! I have an address in Texas if it makes any difference. I really want this CD. I go to Bart’s SLOB every day and laugh myself silly at his wonderful self!
How Great Thou Art is one of my favorites. I have SO many. I would love to win this CD! I have the first one and LOVE it! :)
My favorite is On Christ the Solid Rock!
oh lordy. just one hymn? i love them for the same reasons you do. hmmmm– in the garden, because he lives, old rugged cross, etc…..
Amazing Grace, hands down, any version, any time, any day, always makes me cry.
And that Third Day cd that I won here a while back? AH-SOME! THANK YOU!!
Just reading everyone’s faves makes me want to break out singing! I’m going to go with Jesus Paid It All. Followed closely by about a zillion others.
Amazing Grace is probably first with the old rugged cross a close second. I too love the praise music our church sings on
Sun. mornings but sure miss the old hymns.
I love Great Is Thy Faithfulness, among many others!
Be Thou My Vision is my favorite hymn. I love hymns!
The first one that comes to mind is It is Well With My Soul. (Have you ever read the story behind it? Amazing!)
Thanks for another chance at a fun giveaway!
