Crime Reduces Innocence Makes Everyone Angry I Declare

I guess it’s safe to say that the whole Michael / Holly story line took quite a turn in this episode. They make me laugh and are so bizarrely perfect for each other that you know they’re just destined for TV romance failure.

I thought there were some great lines this week, even if they weren’t necessarily guffaw-worthy. A few memorable moments:

1) “No more. No more.”
“Too many times.”

2) “You’re making a knife with a knife?”
“You got a better way?”

3) “I’ll probably get soup or something light.”

4) “You’re always safe with me. I’m a very good screamer.”

5) “Instead of farms fighting against AIDS, it’s us fighting against our own poverty.”

6) “He got me.”
“Twice.”

7) “Michael gave me a list of his ten favorite Bruce Springsteen songs. Three of them were Huey Lewis & The News. One of them was Tracy Chapman ‘Fast Car.'”

8) BEST “That’s what she said” EVER.

9) But the auction totally depressed me. Might be the saddest I’ve ever been watching an episode of “The Office.” Poor Dwight.

10) And also: poor Jim.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I may need to go crawl under the covers for a little while. Just to recover from the SOUL-NUMBING SADNESS, you understand.

What did y’all think?

  1. #7 Cracked me up so bad. Otherwise, not my favorite episode, not the worst.

  2. I thought it was pretty funny, actually! I did feel bad for poor Jim, though. Have you gone to http://www.angelaandy.com? You’ll laugh yourself silly. :)

  3. It was really funny. You can’t help feeling sorry for Dwight though:-(

  4. I liked Darryl’s auction item (and the fact that it was to go RIGHT NOW) and that he took the first offer immediately.

    Oh, and #8, definitely!

  5. I loved this episode. I loved Phyllis’ character development. She is by far the most mature person in the office. She was so kind to Dwight, even as he’s been so mean to her. I loved how Dwight realized that and made a change – perhaps the first unselfish thing he’s done. Hearing him bid for her hug and seeing her smile just made me want to cry! And the fact that her husband paid $1000 to get a hug from her was just too sweet!

My heart breaks for Jim this episode. I’ve done the whole long distance thing, for 2+ years before we got married. It was so hard and I know exactly what they’re facing. I want to see them triumph through it, and I don’t like where this is heading… :-(

I love Michael and Holly together. Too bad it can’t last. I think she’s so much better for him than Jan though – for the first time, someone who likes him as he is and not just trying to use him! Poor Michael.

I totally agree, that’s the best “That’s what she said” line ever!

I think that this episode is setting the next one up to be a really big one.

  6. I definitely felt sad at the end of the episode. I’m really hoping that Jim and Pam are okay. :(

  7. I just think it’s plain old mean of The Office writers to play with our emotions with the whole PB&J story. Not fair. But the romantic in me can’t help but hold on to the hope that there would be a HUGE mutiny if they split them up.

Not my favourite episode, either, but I still giggled!

  8. This was the first episode that actually made me feel more uncomfortable than humored. My parents say they can’t watch because it’s just too awkward, and now I know how they feel.

I still love it, but might have to go watch the Business Ethics episode again to cheer up.

  9. Dwight: “She introduced me to so many things…pasteurized milk, sheets, monotheism…”

Phyllis: “It’s fun to try new things.”

    SO FUNNY!

  10. One of my favorites was…

“Motives: Financial or possibly HP vintage computer collectors”

  11. Foliage.

  12. I thought this one took a while to warm up…like a car on a cold day, but once it got going I found myself chuckling. I just don’t like the foreshadowing with Pam and Jim. Can’t we leave them alone for one season and let them percolate?

  13. I thought it was funny, but I find myself not wanting to watch each week because I KNOW we’re heading for a break-up. Ugh! I can’t even think about it.

  14. I think Pam needs to come home. I don’t know if I can stand the heartbreak if they break up!!

*by the way – did you know you can follow The Office on twitter?

  15. It really was sad. And where it wasn’t sad, it was even more awkward than usual. Though my husband and I enjoyed finding out that Roy now works at Vitamin World.

  16. “That’s what she said” line, best part of the show….period. I snorted when he said it, and embarrassed my teenage daughter (SCORE!)

  17. It wasn’t the best episode, and it was sad at times, but have you seen the previews for this week? Oh my gosh!!! We can’t figure out if it’s Creed or Dwight dressed up as the Joker. I’m going to be on the road Thurs. night, but once hubby and I reach our destination we’re going to use our handy-dandy Slingbox to watch it from DVR at home. If you don’t know what a Slingbox is then Google it. It’s one of the best pieces of technology EVER…especially for people who travel a lot.

  18. Oh man. We’re new Office watchers here with a total of about 1 1/2 episodes under our belts. We’re still trying to figure everyone out! :) The only reason DH kept it on was because I told him that BooMama watches!

  19. I loved Michael and Holly playing cards before they left for their 8:00 dinner reservation…

  20. I thought this episode was sweet in some parts

“Seven hundred dollars and one cent”

But Pam and Jim…. ai-yi-yi….if they break up over this I am going to be sooo mad.

And yes, Holly and Michael are PERFECT for each other- which is scary.

  21. #2 and #7 were my favorites. I just about fell out when I realized it was Huey and not The Boss.

  22. I can not get over the comments by Dwight about milk, sheets, and monotheism… too funny. I think I even snort-laughed, once or twice.

There were definately some awkward, should I really be watching this show….
    moments.

I am such a fan though.

  23. I also loved Dwight’s line about pasteurized milk, sheets, and monotheism. That totally cracked me up.

BUT FOR THE LOVE. Dear Office writers: Please do not mess with Jim and Pam. Get your giggles writing about Andy and Angela or Michael and Holly. Or even Phyllis and Bob Vance. Just leave Jim and Pam alone! What we love about them is their chemistry, not their Ross-and-Rachel-like Will-they-or-won’t-they scenario. THANKYOU.

  24. I KNOW! SO SAD!

The Office is getting all mushy on me.

The monotheism line cracked me up to no end.
And I’m with you on the “that’s what she said.” I feel like Michael hasn’t said that in awhile!

  25. Maybe I’m stupid, but when Jim turned the car around and said “No, I’m not that guy, and we’re not that couple” that boded well in my mind. Jim has no doubt that Pam is faithful. He knows that he’s not Roy. He knows they’re okay. It’s going to be fine, people.

Now Michael and Holly, I’m not so sure.

Dwight and Angela and Andy – pure entertainment. That one will keep going for SEASONS! (I squeal in delight)

But Jim and Pam are fine. Trust me.

  26. Talk about uncomfortable! I was watching this with my 14 year old daughter! I should have turned it off (I know I should have turned it off) but I didn’t. Kind of like watching a train wreck.

The previous poster beat me to it! Our take on the Jim/Pam thing was that it was a very healthy thing for Jim to do–i.e. turn the car around. He knew he was going to NYC for all the wrong reasons–to check up on Pam and make sure she’s behaving. He suddenly realized that he didn’t want to NOT trust her, so he took the high road, turned the car around, and decided to trust her. I liked that part a lot. I think they’ll be o.k., but maybe with a bump or two along the way.

I think Dwight had an enlightenment moment with Phyllis. I think he realized that she was really trying to help him, and so he tried to help her (in his demented, Dwightish way) by raising her bid. I just about cried when her husband paid $1,000 for a hug. TOO SWEET!!

  27. LOVED Darrel’s auction item and that Jim was the one to jump on it so quickly.

Loved that Jim turned the car around. We all have days like that – calling each other at the same time and not being able to get thru.

I was sad for Michael in the last episode, and this time for Dwight. Though I don’t know if I like liking Dwight, know what I mean? Proud of Phyllis for being so kind to Dwight. And sort of mad at Angela for being so hard headed.

  28. THAT was the the best THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID ever, you are right… making a knife with a knife was great too… the rest?… not so great :(

  29. Creed.

  30. Okay here’s the NBC Thurs. nite promo including clips from this week’s office. Creed as the joker…OH MAN the hilarity that’s going to ensue! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi9_oqiklW4

  31. I stopped watching in the middle of the auction because I felt too terrible for everyone. I will go back when I feel stronger.

  32. I loved how Michael auctioned off people, “like they did in the olden days” and they focused on Stanley. Hilarious! My son and I just about fell off the couch laughing over that one.

And yes, Dwight going to Phyllis and her giving advice was just great. And him dropping her off on “not their floor” was funny.
Also the tires. Great stuff. “Couldn’t you have just *said* you did it?”

I totally loved Darryl auctioning off a way out for the guys for $5. Sold! And off they went. SO funny!

Kevin and his surge protector. Oh, also Holly and Michael turning the knob the wrong way for privacy. We were howling over that.

    Love the show!

  33. Ok I’m trying to figure out how I missed the “that’s what she said” and Holly and Michael turning the knob the wrong way? I just watched it last night (on DVR) and missed both of these things! AND I THINK I DELETED IT!!!!!!!

  34. How about Andy telling Angela they would “leave all this behind and move to Celebration, FL. Consider yourself…at ‘ome” Poor Dwight!

  35. If you stayed til the very, very end:
Jim turns his car around at the exit to NYC, and says : You know what? We’re not that couple. I’m not that guy.

So sweet (and, may I add, relieved)!

  36. I have worked very, very hard to catch up with y’all and The Office. I missed almost all of last season, and am very big about watching things in order, so I have crammed in, like 24 episodes (some of them hour long) in just over a week. Phew!

Phyllis and Dwight were great. She really is the most secure out of all of them. And, I mean, who wouldn’t be secure when Bob Vance, Vance Refridgeration would pay $1k to get a hug from you. So sweet!

And yes, that’s what she said.

And I know we don’t like Roy, but you gotta give props to the best, subtle “oh snap!” ever with his, “you used to be a friend” comment. Holy moly!

Good job, though Jim in turning that car around.

I so “less than three” this show!

  37. Awkward.

My crew has been less than thrilled with this season so far.

And if they break up Jim and Pam, I may never watch again!!

  38. No one said anything about Kelly– a couple times she was in the background during the auction, with a hat that covered half her face– she didn’t have any speaking lines and I wondered if that was really her or just a “sit-in”?

  39. Love the blog…love the Office…

Just HAD to make sure you saw this!

  40. Terry backed it up and said, “Did he just say, ‘That’s what she said’?”
