– I found this list of the healthiest grocery stores in America so fascinating that I ’bout near scared myself. And I also wondered: where’s Fresh Market?
– As a general rule I’m terribly uncomfortable with high-fiving. Because I always feel like I’m high-fiving incorrectly. Aye, and unnaturally.
But these high fives? Crack me up. And they also make me want to practice. (source)
– And finally: Andy and Angela are “putting the ‘us’ in ‘rustic.'”

I LOVE that you linked to angelaandy.com. You rock, BooMama! ;)
Goodness. I only have 3 of those 10 chains anywhere near me. I’ve never heard of Fresh Market either.
Um…yeah…I would like to offer you a job helping me promote my book! ha ha You’re so awesome at hooking us all up with great finds! Loving the Sara Bareilles song. Sing on, sister!
I think I went to a Fresh Market in a Chicago suburb.
Yeah, I have zero of those stores. ZERO. Sometimes I don’t love living in the sticks.
Fresh Market is on 280 right beside Jason’s Deli & Starbucks – across from Superior Grill (pause for respect to Superior Grill). You probably pass it 1 or 11 times a day, silly.
Howev, I think it’s definitely worth your time to skip Fresh Market and head on down to Whole Foods. Because it’s heaven. And really pretty. And you can buy Crocs there, but not Diet Coke, which I find particularly strange…..
Oh I have a fresh market about 5 miles from my house…its on the way to Whole Foods which I prefer.
Unfortunately the fresh market here is more pricy gourmet-fantastic meats, great coffee and candy like a general store, but I am not a huge fan of any of the three…so, I would gladly “give” you my fresh market ;)
Oh, and I just realized you weren’t asking for Fresh Market’s location in Bham. You were asking about it’s strange lack of appearance on the list.
I’m dumb.
Whatev.
My husband and I have discussed that if there were a Whole Foods close by, we would be well fed but poor. My sister in law has one within walking distance of her home in Chicago. The last time we went into town for just the weekend, I spent 30.00 on just snacks and some cereal!
I saw that same grocery list and was shocked that Food Lion was that high on the list. I equate our Food Lion to one step above 7-11. Maybe I haven’t been paying attention.
Wow – Albertson’s?? who woulda thunk it – of course our favorite here in Texas is (in addition to Whole Foods which is not even reasonable driving distance for my household) is HEB’s upgrade – Central Market. Some things are pricey but definitely the category of getting what you pay for. Hooked on Central Market’s Organic Applesauce – great stuff.
The High Five thing – hmmmm – I do high five with the little kids at church – other than that – I am a tad clumsy and would no doubt end up smacking someone rather than celebrating. The video opened a whole can of “what the heck do people do with so much time on their hands?”
Fun – you can always be depended upon for fun Miz BooMaMa.
Ok those high five guys…made me almost pee in my pants. I think it was mostly the moment after the high five. You know….the look into the camera moment.
Love it!
Food Lion? Food Lion? I was really surprised to see this on the list. I would’ve never thunk it! I almost fell for the “where’s Fresh Market” line as well. I was all prepared to tell you how it’s based in the city in which I live, blah, blah, blah. Thanks Robyn for saving on that one.
Fresh Market isn’t good for you just really yummy and expensive. Once our Whole Foods opens in December I’ll have 4 of the list within a few miles. Yeah!
Have you seen Andy & Angela’s gift registry? There are three deadbolt bathroom door locks. HA!
Fresh Market’s in New York City and it costs a small fortune.
So… in all your Linky Interwebness you haven’t mentioned that Jack is back… or will be soon…!

High five guys had me laughing. Then I got distracted by that lovely house and lost focus.
Love the article on the healthiest groceries! In AR, We have a Fresh Market in Little Rock. That alone isn’t worth the 2.5-hour drive for me, but when I’m in town, it’s an obligatory stop on the way home. Love it. They definitely don’t out-price Wal-Mart, but it’s manageable.
Tater Tot is in my lap and we watched the high fives. He is now high-fiving me every other second! You have to be here to see how funny it is, put picture a 2-year-old saying, “Oh, high-five, Mama” after EVERYTHING.
totally laughed at the high five video. i can’t believe i sat here and watched the WHOLE thing though. obviously i have waaay to much time on my hands!
Those high-five guys actually gave me the creeps…
We have a Fresh Market a couple of miles from here but it doesn’t live up to its name. I’ve never seen so many expired items on the shelves of a grocery store. I go elsewhere now, thank God.
Is there a back story regarding Andy & Angela? You know, one that might help explain a few things.
We have Fresh Market up here in North Carolina. It is very fancy (expensive). If I am ever in there, I look but do not touch. Now, Trader Joes is some serious good/cheap/healthy FUN!
Carol in NC
Unfortunately, we have none of the 10 stores in our town. We do have a Food Lion about 25 minutes away. So I guess I will have to stick to my unhealthy stores.
The high-five guys cracked me up. I am not coordinated enough to correctly high-five. I usually miss.
You come up with some of the neatest stuff.
Umm, Piggly Wiggly? How can any store with PORK in the name not be healthy??
And that high-five video? When I watch those things I think…”Wow. Someone actually Took The Time to choreograph that. And film it. And edit it.” You know, they could be doing something more meaningful. Like BLOGGING.
I need to get married in a barn.
one of my former co-workers, who’s from NC, told me once that her mother referred to food lion as “food kitty” because they had a very small selection compared to other stores. HA!
and high fiving…i try to avoid it because i’m afraid of missing the other person’s hand! my 3-year-old daughter’s a big fan, though. she always says “give me a five”, which at first confused Husby and I–we were thinking she was asking for money? :0)
I always felt SO out of the loop in college when people tried to greet me, not with a regular high-five (which can be tricky enough for an uncoordinated dork like me), but with this complicated slap-one-way-and-then-the-other-and-end-in-a-handshake move. There may have even been a snap involved. Who invents these things? And how did everyone else know how to do them except me?
I am really starting to feel bad for Andy. It’s gonna be so sad when she finally dumps him.
We have a Fresh Market. Rather pricey. Ok, really pricey. Not sure you are missing anything.
