It’s An Improversation

Tonight on “The Office” Michael spilled the beans about Dwight and Angela, Andy decided that Angela was worth fighting for, and Dwight discovered that Andy wasn’t the only person being betrayed. Ultimately Angela was on the receiving end of not one but two cold shoulders, and by all appearances the wedding is off.

Meanwhile, Michael met his boss in New York and rambled with much rambling randomness.

My favorites:

1. “I mean, eventually he’ll figure it out, when their kids have giant heads and beet-stained teeth, but for now, it’s kind of awkward.”

2. “Rule #17: Don’t turn your back on mares, men you have wronged, or the dominant turkey during mating season.”

3. “Keep in mind that when you hear these bad things that I say in your ears…I’m not very articulate today, so I’ll just save it for another time.”

4. “A little bit.”

5. “We were together and then he killed Sprinkles and then we stopped.”

6. “My philosophy is basically this – and this is something that I live by – don’t do anything to anyone for any reason…ever for any reason whatsoever.”

7. “Angela Bernard…”

8. “…will never be her name.”

9. “That’s stupid. I will use a sword and I will cut off your bare hands.”

10. “I will respect the results of the duel.”

11. “I have to say that I am so impressed with the potential you see.”

12. “I can’t believe they’re going to fight over me.”
“I guess people have fewer choices as they get older.”

13. “The Prius is silent if you keep it under five miles per hour. He deserves to win.”

14. “Andy’s running over Dwight with his car.”

15. “All you do is dress fancy and sing.”

What did y’all think?

  1. I quit watching “The Office” this season because I wasn’t enjoying it and I was trying to cut down on TV anyway. However, I still read your recaps each week :) And after reading this one, I’m thinking I’m going to have to watch this one online this weekend.

    Thanks!

  2. I think the Prius comment was my favorite. Who knew they were instruments of stealth killings?

  3. Loved it! This was classic “The Office”!!

  4. I wait for your recaps when there’s a new Office!!

Loved this one.. my whole family was laughing out loud. The duel in the parking lot was my favorite.. but after reading your favorite lines, I need to go back to the DVR and watch again! Creed, Meredith, Andy, Dwight, Jim.. so many funny comments.. loved it!

  5. I loved it when Creed said “Your Welcome” with all the flourish – had to watch that one several times!

  6. This is the only show I try to watch every week. I find it so funny. This is the first week I’ve seen your recap and it just made my Friday morning :)

  7. I loved this one. David Wallace is so good opposite Michael. And I loved the scene where Michael and Dwight are saying incredibly inappropriate things about Angela, and Jim is trying talk LOUDLY over them to redirect the course of the conversation.

  8. I thought it was the best one in a long time!! I loved the Prius scene…. the all you do is dress fancy and sing was a favorite and when Dwight said he leg was just a little numb.

  9. I really, really want to know the 40 things every Schrute boy must learn before they are five.

  10. “Learn your rules; you must learn your rules. If you don’t you’ll be eaten in your sleep. ARGH!”

We laughed our heads off at that one and had to go back more than once to watch Dwight singing his little song.

  11. I also enjoyed Kevin’s apology to Angela for messing up the spreadhseet.

And the fact that the wedding cake was supposed to be a sailboat.

  12. Finally, an episode I loved from beginning to end.

“Rule #17: Don’t turn your back on mares, men you have wronged, or the dominant turkey during mating season.”

    Perfection!

  13. I also LOVED Michael running in the opening scene & claiming that his “score” was 31. ;-)

  14. I’m happy about the resolution for the Andy/Dwight/Angela storyline. I’m glad that, in the end, Andy and Dwight have SOME dignity left. Angela just needs to get a new cat.

  15. This episode left me a little sad at the end. My favorite part was the Prius.

Also no one mentioned Michael going to corporate, awkward and uncomfortable.

  16. I really laughed when Jim asked Dwight if his legs were broken and he said “No, but one’s going numb.”

  17. My favorite quote is the title of your post. It was so funny b/c I was saying to my husband as he was rambling, “It’s like he starts a sentence and has no idea where it’s going,” and then he basically explains that very thing to the camera. And the opener with the speed gun was great, as was the duel. Such a good episode!

  18. Oh, it was just delightful! I loved the rules every Schrute boy must know by the age of five, Angela’s screensaver, Creed saying “You’re welcome,” etc., etc. It was great!

  19. my favorite? they plan to duel, and meredith yells out, “dibbs on loser!”

  20. My favorites were when Dwight was trying to watch his back and said,”I really need a soup spoon.”

    and

    “Let’s order in some pasta.”

  21. One night a month we have Girls Night Out – that night is THURSDAY!!! That means I can’t even read BooMaMa until I have a chance to watch the episode on Hulu (thanks for turning me on that little gem). This episode, in my humble opinion, was the best this season. I loved every minute, even the ackward bits.

  22. I feel the need. The need for tweed.

  23. Ha ha ha, I’d forgotten about the Tweed part. SO FUNNY. Definitely the “improversation” Michael had with David Wallace was my favorite part. David is such a nice guy!

  24. This was a hilarious episode. It made having to wait for a new episode worth it. Love your recaps!

  25. And don’t forget Meredith yelling out

“I call the loser!” when Angela decides she’ll let the duel decide whom she chooses!!

GREAT resolution to the Dwight-Angela-Andy plot line.

  26. Just found your blog and I am so glad to find someone else who loves The Office. This is my FAVORITE show. I tivoed this episode last night so I shouldnt have read your recap but I am so glad to find you.

  27. I was sort of glad that Angela got the shaft from Dwight and Andy both. I was trying to figure out how they were going to play that entire situation.

And Oh. My. Goodness. “I mean, eventually he’ll figure it out, when their kids have giant heads and beet-stained teeth, but for now, it’s kind of awkward.” and the “learn the rules” song.

    Xandra

  28. One of my favorite comments was Kevin’s “I’m sorry I did such a whorish job filling out this form”.

Oh, it’s good to have a new episode!!

  29. I don’t get to watch much of The Office because that’s the munchkin’s bed time, but I caught last night’s episode. I laughed so hard I almost wet myself.

Meredith calling out “I all loser” after the duel was called cracked me up.

“We’re supposed to talk big picture stuff, but I’ll be honest, I don’t really know what that means. It’s probably bad.” Oh Michael!

    Have a great Friday.

  30. My favorite quote was when Michael asked Dwight how Angela was in bed. While Jim was interrupting and trying to stop the conversation, Dwight said, “Eager and flexible.”

    LMBO!!!!!!!!

  31. Dwight’s song and your number 1 quote was definitely at the top of my list.

Thank you so much for inspiring me to watch this show. My life is happier with it.

  32. This– “I have to say that I am so impressed with the potential you see.”
–made me think of the rock star guy with the bandana trying out for Americal Idol this week. He SO should be cast as Michael’s brother!!

  33. OH and I enjoyed the 31 miles per hour running score for Michael! :0)

  34. Okay, I’m going to be the voice of dissent and say this wasn’t my favorite episode of the season. Sorry!

It did have some funny stuff (I know I’m bad but Oscar asking Dwight, “Where Dwight? Where?” and Dwight saying, “Seems like you already know where” and the “missionary?/I said nothing fancy” exchange were my favorites) but mostly it just seemed like it was a move-the-plot-along episode.

Wrapped up the love triangle and also introduced the future involvement from corporate (in the form of Idris Elba) (and OH YES I learned that from following The Office on Twitter), but it didn’t feel that extraordinary to me. Plus I’ve grown to really like Andy and this just made me feel sad for him. Maybe I’m just cranky from the all the cold.

And clearly, I remain entirely too invested in this show.

  35. Like many of the episodes – sad and funny at the same time. I still loved it though… but what are we going to do without Dwight/Angela/Andy triangle??

  36. I thought this one was not that funny. Oh, it had its moments, but overall was too serious and sad.

  37. Loved it. I was definitely ready for the Dwight vs. Andy throwdown. Poor Andy, though. He has such a soft heart somewhere underneath that Cornell snobishness.

Some of my other favorites from the night:

Jim: “Dwight, are your legs broken?”

    and

    Michael: “Let’s get some pasta!”

  38. “Would I have signed for the formal crysanthemums if I weren’t serious about getting married?”

    Completely hilarious.

  39. I thought it was going to be way too serious judging from the beginning, but it ended up being one of the most hilarious in a long time. I especially liked the Andy/Dwight exchange when they were challenging each other to the duel and then ended up high-fiving at the end.

  40. Loved this episode. One of my favorites was Oscar’s comment about the stealthy Prius. But I have to say that after the opening scene (31 mph!!!!), I looked at my husband and said, “Holy Cow, you want to go try that now, don’t you???!!!”

  41. LOVED IT!! “I call loser.” and Jim’s facial expressions are ALWAYS hilarious. “Sometimes I start a sentance… and I have no idea where I’m going with it.”

  42. Did anyone else notice the terrible graphics at the end with Michael in New York? It looked like he was just standing in front of a green screen.

FYI: If I had to cheer for either one, it would definitely be Andy “Nard-Dog” Bernard. I can’t stand Dwight anymore.

  43. The Rules song was the best!

  44. Not my favorite and that is disappointing. The previews looked so good!

  45. This show is my all time favorite! Oh my sweet Lord, I laugh out loud…I need more things in my life that make me this happy! :)

  46. I thought it was hilarious when Dwight and Andy high-fived each other during their arguement (when Jim tried to intervene).

And I am glad Angela ended up with…NOBODY!

  47. Loved this one.

“That’s stupid. I will use a sword and I will cut off your bare hands.” And Dwight’s song!!!

    “I call loser!” Ha!

  48. Liked this episode a lot but Tina Fey’s dance for a flu shot was the thing I rewound about 5 times.

  49. I felt really, really bad for Andy when he was in the conference room with Angela. Poor guy. But overall, it was hilarious.

LOVED Dwight’s song about rules. And I too really want to know all 40.

  50. I finally got caught up watching this season, so now I can read your recaps! It makes me SO happy to relive all of The Office wonderfulness. Another part of this episode that I loved was the whole thing about Dwight stashing his weapons everywhere. I laughed hard when Jim took the big bow and arrow-looking thing away.

  51. I think the whole speed trap at the beginning and them racing was hysterical!
