While I loved the whole idea of Michael and Dwight being responsible for some corporate recognizance work, I didn’t really get the whole is-Hilary-Swank-hot-or-not plotline. I mean, I got it, but I didn’t think it was particularly funny (except for the wall of Hilary Swank pictures, which for some reason cracked me up). I appreciated that Michael had something akin to an ethical dilemma, and when he said, “I’m not a shark” – well, I wanted to hug him.
I guess that after the culmination of the Andy/Dwight/Angela drama, this episode was bound to seem like filler, but still, there were some funny moments.
1. “I got 500 feet of red wire…twenty bucks for the whole spool.” – and Dwight climbs a pole in the background.
2. “You know how I feel about IHOP, socialist.”
3. “Michael. Get your clouds right.”
4. “That signal is lick your lips. Try it.”
5. “…as they get down to the single-cell shark.”
6. “Oooh, Vietnam. I hear it’s lovely.”
7. “I’m a genius about some things, and other things I’m very stupid.”
8. “Respect the game.”
9. “She’s hot as heck. She’s a female Boris Becker.”
10. “That’s why I don’t like bittersweet chocolate. What’s the point?” (Bless him.)
What did y’all think?

LOVED it…and I totally called the fact that Michael was going to fall in love with the family and feel bad. TOTALLY called it.
Enough great moments that we laughed out loud at our house. The Vietnam is lovely comment cracked me up….and I too thought the pictures everywhere of Hillary Swank were funny.
I loved the open with the red wire. And the lip licking. And can I just tell you that everytime I type in your blog address, I type boobmama on accident. EVERY. TIME. What does that mean?!
I thought this episode was weird. The first 5 minutes were hilarious and the rest just made me uncomfortable…
“You will have pancakes and you’ll like it.” Not the funniest episode ever, and I found myself feeling so sorry for that nice family. I did like how they duct taped(sp?)his car :).
Not my favorite, but not my least fav. either. Such a great break from last weeks intensity although I was really bummed Michael did turn in the referrals. The opening cracked me up though nothing funnier than Dwight climbing a pole.
When I heard this: “She’s hot as heck. She’s a female Boris Becker.†… I COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING!! …. Bliss, I tell ya!
And, oh yeah, comment stalkers, there’s a giveaway this week- my blog, you come, you win! Stuff like that. :-)
Great recap, BooMama!
Hands down, my favorite line is from Angela “Hot is a TEMPERATURE.” Yes ma’am, amen sister, and thank you! I’ve never understood that either.
This one reminded me of The Olympics, and that time that the whole group spent the whole day making crazy bets cuz Kevin needed a gambling fix after March Madness had ended. Its always Michael and Dwight off on some crazy scheme and the others spending the whole day doing some elaborate meaningless thing.
And she is totally a female Boris Becker. Ha!
UG! My Chris and I moaned throughout…it was not our favorite episode. We happily deleted it when it was through punishing us. My goodness.
Only the red wire at the beginning really made us laugh. The rest, we wanted to climb under something and stay there.
BTW, Chris said that the wire would be cheaper than $20. Then he jokingly added, that the green wire was more like $20–to which I added, oh that’s because of blue, right? My Chris said, right. So we had fun bantering just from the wire.
Not my favorite episode ever. I totally knew Michael was going to feel bad, he’s just that guy. The other plot line seemed a little pointless. I don’t usually prefer the Michael plot line but this week I found myself tuning out the office and only paying attention to Michael. Strange. I did love the intro.
Oy Vey! Well….I literally wanted to turn it off! WHAT in the world? I think it may go down in history for me as the MOST CRINGE-WORTHY EPISODE EVER. I did love Michaels’ Shark Food Chain theory. Single Cell Shark…..HILARIOUS!
Just wanted to say that I am new to your blog…and I LOVE IT!
Okay, I’m lost. What show is this referring to???
I thought the episode was OK. I loved the red wire prank at the beginning, and I found the Michael/Dwight plot amusing at times, and I felt bad for Michael at the end of it. The whole Hillary Swank thing was very random and kind of dumb.
It disappointed me. Oh Office, you were my only refuge in a sea of mediocre sitcomes…
However, I loved the red wire (don’t we all) and the drinking from the stapler.
I hated the Hillary Swank stuff.
I think I get a perverse joy from watching Jim torture Dwight, and if you saw the office I work in, you would know that I totally live vicariously through him.
I will still watch. How could I not?
I could see myself embroiled in a debate over someone’s hotness or notness, so I totally got that part. I liked Stanley’s speech, but I wanted to hear from Phyllis, too.
I was disappointed that Michael gave the client list to Wallace, but it really wasn’t his fault. Dwight was putting on the pressure.
I liked it when Michael talked about how his heart has always gotten him in trouble and then he listed Jan….Ryan….
By the way, was Ryan there last night?
I LOVE this show – but it was so disconnected last night. I thought the mission was funny – and my FAVORITE was the spool of wire gag – hilarious! But I agree – the Hillary Swank thing wasn’t very funny at all. I hope next week they step it up a bit.
Totally agree with your assessment. :) Definitely felt like a “filler” episode – with a few worthwhile lines thrown in.
Finally! Back to the way The Office started, with pranks and things about the office and not the soap opera it had turned into. Being lovers of show since the beginning, we are so glad the nonsense with Andy, Angela and Dwight is over with. Last night was classic The Office!
This is just the best show on TV, hands down! Wait, let me clarify that statement. This is just the best sitcom on TV, hands down! It’s hard to beat the Bachelor and Real Housewives for good ol’ reality TV viewing pleasure!
I agree with the funny things you listed, but it was definitely a filler!
Certainly not the best episode but Jim pranking Dwight with the wire was too good. I love this show. It is in the only primetime comedy worth watching.
Am I the only one who felt very sad for the sweet Prince family?!
I enjoyed Oscar’s argument using symmetry as his main point.
But the highlight for me was when Michael ran down to his car… forgot his keys… and then ran back to the office to get his keys :)
I really enjoyed this one b/c of all of the ridiculous. The Hillary Swank thing was great because it made no sense. That is how I like my Office. And Jim’s faces are hilarious.
I thought this was the dumbest episode of The Office I’ve seen in a long time, if not ever. I love this show but hated it last night!
My family loves this show so much. We will play it over a few times on DVR just to crack up again.
It’s great cheap entertainment, huh?
I can’t stand Hilary Swank to begin with, so that was just plain boring for me.
I was hoping that Michael wasn’t going to hand over that client list! He’s not a shark! He shouldn’t have done that.
I’m hoping they get back to beet farm soon. Dwights brother Mose is hysterical.
Just my opinion.
not my favorite, but the red wire was worth watching it for…
dwight: you KNOW how I feel about IHOP!
I’m so glad to read that this wasn’t the best episode ever. I am confessing here to you, Boo Mama and your loyal Office watchers, that last night was my first time to watch the show. I was busy doing things at the same time and didn’t see every single minute. There were some moments that made me laugh out loud ( the lip licking) and I will watch it again, I’m sure. And I was watching it, I was trying to guess which lines you would be posting!
not to worry friends, if they call on the Prince family customers, no one will leave them! or if they do, they’ll come right back.
and lawsie mercy, i never thought i’d see the day from our English-major girl, it’s reconnaissance. just had to tease you.
My favorite part had to be when the guy at the paper business fixed Michael’s bumper. It was such a trashy-duct-taped mess! He said he was going to go get some “tools” and “fix it right up.” Ha, ha!
I enjoyed the episode tonight…while not the best still better than most anything else on tv!!
Sure, it was filler, but I did laugh a bit more than last week.
“You’ll have pancakes and you’ll like it!” made me laugh out loud.
I didn’t find to be too terribly cringe-worthy. Oh no – am I getting desensitized to the cringe factor? I’ve been watching since show one . . . I guess it was bound to happen.
Anyway, I loved that some of the minor characters were showcased. Loved how each explained their own hot/not perspectives.
I still find The Office to be more entertaining than most stuff on TV, so even on an “off” night, I still giggle.
Hope things pick back to the usual level of funniness soon!
The wire (hee hee) was the best part. That was season one stuff. The best season yet. Any way.. ever watched Big Bang Theory.. it’s getting really close to taking over as the best comedy out there, in my opinion. I do love Office though.
Oh yes, Michael running to get his keys was great! And I always love it when Dwight looks at the camera.
Yep, totally knew Michael would feel bad about the family. He really is sweet. I love him, yet find him quite irritating at times.
Swank stuff….crude and boring. Except for Oscars assessment.
LOVED the whole show, could totally see the writers decide to continue an argument they were having re Swank into the show. This is totally something the guys where I used to work would have done. Oscar being so clinical was hilarious. A little too much inner thought on Micheal’s part, he’s only supposed to show flashes of humanity on rare occasions. He was so stupid about business last week at headquarters and now he seems to “get it.”
Hello! I’m new to your blog and enjoying it immensely. I love your sense of humor. I just had to leave a comment on this post because you hit the nail on the head. It was just a little strange. Did not fit at all. But I must say, I like the episodes that leave you liking Michael. Similar to the episode “Did I Stutter” where Michael confronts Stanley on his public disrespect.
“You will eat pancakes and you’ll like it.”
I’d like to thank Michael for that blessing over my life.
500 feet of red wire from this guy at the flea market!!!
You know what’s funny? As I’m watching the Office now, i try to guess what quotes you’ll have on your site the next day!!! :) I knew you would have “Michael- get your clouds right!” today! :)
Hubbie and I LOVED it – I love seeing all the things that Jim does to Dwight! I also loved seeing that Michael had a heart and really really really didn’t want to rat out that family. The Hilary Swank thing was hilarious because my husband and I have a running argument – he thinks she is ugly and I think she’s beautiful. :)
I kept wondering whether the writers had to get permission from Hilary Swank to use her persona in the show, or if Hilary Swank was at home watching this thinking, “Why are they talking about me like this?”
Can anyone explain to me the IHOP/socialist comment?? Huh?? Funny episode, though. I can’t believe he ended up being the shark in the end, though.
Boo, you alone got me hooked on the show.
But I missed a good bit of it. Your take on the episodes is just about funnier than the show itself.
So glad you enlightened me. My oldest daughter has made reference to the show since it first started. But not until recently did I enter the world of The Office.
Funny stuff.
“Respect the game” :) That made me laugh out loud. Repeatedly.
I didn’t get the Hilary Swank thing either…I thought this epidsode was a bit of a disappointment. But I still love me some Office!
My favorite was: “Fax it? Why don’t you just ride it in on a dinosaur.” Love it!
~Meredith
Finally watched it last night. A few funny moments, but generally felt like a filler episode. And I wish Michael hadn’t called in the info. It was a little odd that he let Dwight bully him into it.
