Last week the husband and I went to see Celine Dion in concert thanks to a free ticket hook-up from a bloggy friend. It was SUCH a treat. And while I typically try to temper my concert expectations because you never really know how someone’s going to sound live, there’s no question that I was fully prepared to be awed and amazed by Celine’s voice.
I mean, I’ve screamed “River Deep, Mountain High” enough in the privacy of my own car to know that IT IS NOT EASY TO HIT THOSE NOTES, PEOPLE. I couldn’t wait to hear her live.
And while we were at the concert, I received an unexpected blessing.
I need to pause for a moment and compose myself so that I can share it. My heart is still very tender from the experience, you understand.
Y’all, I spent at least one full hour carefully scrutinizing Celine’s hair and stifling the urge to stand up and salute it. It is glorious. A wonder, even. Something tells me she’s probably not pulling her hair through a cap and then sitting around for 30 minutes in her pajamas while she waits for some straight-up bleach to work its magic. Girlfriend had some volume and some lowlights that would make you weep. She’s my new hair heroine.
I just wanted you to know that. Because it matters to me.
And since I’m a fan of the Tough Questions, I have to ask: who’s your hair heroine?
I do hope that’s not too personal.
Thank you and have a lovely day.

My hair heroine (also my life heroine)is our dear friend Beth Moore. If I lived in that Houston humidity there is no way I could aspire to those heights of hair grandeur. She is truly an overcomer!
And I love how she gives us permission to “just color those thangs” with regard to our grays.
As I am particularly lazy about my hair, I’m not really sure I have a heroine. But I do love Jennifer Aniston’s hair. So simple, yet versatile. I just wish mine would actually LOOK like hers.
I just have to say that you are too funny. I really enjoy reading your blog and today I really needed a laugh. Thanks for accomodating.
Ummmm, this is honestly something I’ve never thought of before… I know this sounds strange but I think Paula Deen has the most beautiful white/gray hair. I color mine (ahem) but if mine looked like that, I wouldn’t :)
I was crazy about Katie Holmes’ hair before she hacked it all off and started dancing with aliens ….
Okay, scratch that last part.
… before she started practicing Scientology.
My friend Hilaire’s mom has the best salt and peppered hair I have ever seen. I hope and pray mine will be just like that!! With all we are facing, it may be gray tomorrow :0) Hee hee!
I love Celine’s voice and am so glad you got to go!!
Julia Roberts
always has been
always will be
For a curly girl, this is a no brainer!
Andie McDowell. Hands down.
I have short hair, and it’s hard to find people in the spotlight with such.
However, the hair I love, love, love is that of Gweneth Paltrow in the movie “Sliding Doors”. Her short, blonde cut is IT!
I also agree with Shelly about Paula Deen. I heart Paula Deen–for a seasoned woman, she has good hair.
meg ryan…
her hair is ALWAYS cute.
Okay, not a fan of the aliens, but I AM a fan of Katie Holme’s NEW hair. I chopped off 18 inches of mine after my Monkey was born and I’m trying to grow it out to look like Katie’s short little bobs.
I’m trying. For some reason it’s just not working. Maybe there is something to the aliens?
Oh Jennifer Aniston. She always has such great hair!!! The style and color always look Fabulous!
By the way, I love bears :-) I still laugh everytime I think about it!!!
Jacklin Smith
as i read the above comments, i kept going, oh yeah, her, too. so: beth moore, paula deen, julia roberts & a new one: michelle obama.
i so appreciate how you drop everything to just share what’s on your heart. that’s one of the reasons you are so loved by so many (including me!).
& a lovely day to you, too!
Meg Ryan – hands down.
She always looks soooo cute.
Debra Messing on early episodes of Will & Grace. I love the red, I love the curls, I love it all. Love. It.
I do think Julia Roberts has great hair, but I think my hair heroine is the actress who plays Carly Corinthos Jax on General Hospital. I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, because this means I admit to watching General Hospital, but I just can’t break the habit of sitting down to enjoy some fake lives during naptime. And seriously, she has great hair.
Also I have to appreciate your headline. My husband and I still will quote that Celine Dion SNL spoof – I am ze greatest singer in ze world!
Sarah Palin, hands down! Classy and sophiscated but can be long and soft!
OK, so I scanned the comments so far and no one has mentioned her, but I’m gonna do it… ready?
Jessica Simpson.
I’m not sure why that was hard. Maybe it’s the daisy dukes.
How about Reece Witherspoon? My hair is nothing like hers and never will be, but oh, beautiful. Neither is anything ELSE of mine like anything of hers. But a girl can dream, can’t she??!!
My hair is so dreadfully thin and uncooperative that my hair heroine would be ANYONE with thick, behaving hair. *sigh*
My hair hero has to be Emmylou Harris for having the brazen courage in this day and age to wear her hair long, flowing, curly, and gray.
My hair could also be described, charitably, with all those terms…but it’s nowhere near to looking like hers. :)
I don’t have a hair heroine, BUT I usually love what Nick Arrojo does with people’s hair on “What Not to Wear”. Every time he tones down a bleached-out non-natural blonde or gives someone a classic, classy cut that follows that person’s natural hair pattern (i.e. NOT sprayed, teased, or permed into a rat’s nest) I cheer! Most people have no idea what a real professional can do for their hair!
um hello, people!?
Come on now, say it with me…
Beyonce!!
Have you ever seen her with a bad hair day? Me thinks not.
Has anyone seen the recent “Got Milk” ad in the magazines with Christie Brinkley? Her hair rocks! Talk about your highlights and lowlights – hers is perfection.
Ummm…everyone. I’ve neglected my hair for almost a year…again. So everyone’s hair makes me weep. Unless I’m grocery shopping in Taos with all the dreadlocks. Those hippies make me feel pretty!:)
Jennifer Anniston of course. But i also really like short hair. so I love Katie Holmses hair right now. I just wish I could have a hair dresser come to my house every day around noon. After I’ve exercised and done my house work. Before I go out in public.
Big Mama.
Meg Ryan, of course. Has there ever been a greater example of True Hair Integrity than Meg?
Kate Gosselin and Big Mama.
Julia Roberts “Pretty Woman” hair was my ultimate fav and what I aspired to in the 90’s. The bigger, wilder, puffier… the better. She still has great hair. I really do like Paula Abdul’s hair on American Idol (although it must be some extentions) and her co-judge Kara’s hair.
I’m going with Cindy Crawford..because I like her dark color and shine.
Why did I get cursed with hair that won’t cooperate? I have no hair talent either.
Fun Post!
Kelly in Michigan
Catherine Zeta-Jones. Hands down.
I am one year out from chemo and my hair is growing back in all curly and different and such, and I just can’t find a good style for trying to grow it back out w/o it looking like I have a mullet. :)
Guurll,
You are hilarious! That you could sit in a concert listening to a wonder like Celine Dion and want to weep over her HAIR…
I have no words.
Oh, my hair heroine is Kimberly Williams-Paisley. Ever since Father of the Bride I’ve been a big fan of her hair.
Melissa Moore Fitzpatrick … ’nuff said!
I’ve always envied the hair Jennifer Gray had in “Dirty Dancing.” The curly bob. Oooooh, the envy. I do enjoy that big, loose-curls look that’s all over the place now. I don’t think mine would ever do that, though. Not without professional help.
My friend at the gym has the best hair. I think I like it so much because it is the opposite of mine…blond and straight.
I’m starting to see some grays, so that may inspire some serious hair changes for me!
Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls. My life will be complete if I can get my hair to look like hers.
ROFL! Thank you for just the light-hearted touch I needed today. NOT that hair is a light matter. Nay, I take my hair seriously.
My hair heroine(s) are my former hairdresser, Andrea S. Sports THE BEST rockin’ funky chick hair ever on that gorgeous head of hers. The. Best. Oh, how I miss me some Andrea hair. She knew my hair. She got my hair. And she has SKILLZ!
Running a distant second is Annette Benning’s closely cropped, chunky pixie look. WISH I could pull that off better.
One of your best posts. Ever. :)
Angelina Jolie! Brunette, beautiful and sexy.
Remember everyone that Celine Dion’s sister is her hair dresser and that she does play around with real hair extensions! Sorry to burst the bubble.
Kerri Russell. How do her curls be so frizz-free? I need her Secret.
If I had straight hair (oh how many times in my life I’ve begun a sentence like that), I’d chop it in a short sassy cut like Katie Holmes and be SO HAPPY EVERY DAY.
I second Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls but also have to add Anne Hathaway. Love her long brown locks!
I always like Stacy London from What Not To Wear. Her hair is so cute every time. I even love the grey streak. You go girl!
Almost anyone as my natural color is mouse brown-ish; fine, straight as a board, and I have enough for 50 people. But specifically and in this order:
1. Big Mama
2. Jennifer Anniston
3. Beth Moore
All for obvious reasons. Funny you asked this because I was just obsessing over mine and coveting the 3 aforementioned heads of hair. Have a good day!
OK I’m like the whitest woman in America – I am a pale, older, white haired woman so who would I think of for hair heroine? Robin Roberts – so brave to bare her head after her cancer treatment and now that adorable short perky hair – wow! But thank you for sharing about Celine being the epitome of hair glory – you just consistently bring out what matters to a Christian woman’s heart!
I’m gonna second the nomination for Meg Ryan. And add Penelope Cruz. Hotchachachaaaa!
jennifer anisten.
I KNOW I KNOW! zero imagination there.
not “the rachel” but the perfectly highlighted, long, healthy straight hair.
sign.
Well…i guess my heroine of yore would be Grace Kelly. Not sure if it’s the hair or the package–hard to tease them apart. Har-har-har.
Ahem…
I also must confess to watching GH, and think Erin is right on with her comment about Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos Jax). I’ve never seen hair which could do curly to straight to wavy and back again w/o breaking a sweat, so to speak.
So jealous that you saw Celine. Seriously. My hair heroine is my sister. And also Heather Graham from way, way back when she was in Austin Powers, but then I realized that she had extensions and I was totally disillusioned.
Meg Ryan’s in the movie where she played the alcoholic (married to Andy Garcia?) — LOVE her hair in that movie. Has always made me want to cut mine off, but I’m not brave enough.
Beth Moore’s thickness and all the little clipies — yeah, she’s always got it goin on too. Haven’t seen her with bad hair EVER.
oh yes, and Pink.
(no, I’m totally kidding!)
and my friend Kelley from Florida… she’s a hairdresser and has the highlights and the lowlights — long and gorgeous! One of those girls that makes you want to just put a hat on, cause you could never even come close to it.
I love Celine’s hair too! We also saw her in concert last Sat. night! I did wonder if that was all her hair. I know she had some short locks at some celebrity golf tournament a few years back. My new fave is Kate Gosslin’s hair. She’s got long in the front and spiked out in the back, and great highlights to go with it!
Ok so I’m gonna say it not because I have short hair but because if my face wasn’t as round as a pie plate, I would so cut my hair like Halle Berry! It’s super short but it looks amazing on her! I would love to have something that easy to do!
Jennifer Aniston. I loved it when she wore it curly on Friends the later seasons. I’ve always wanted to know if, when we get to heaven and get our new bodies, is new hair included?
*sigh* I sure hope so!
Katie Holmes short and sophisticated do.
Meg Ryan in “You’ve Got Mail”
My friend Katie who none of you know but if you did, you’d know what I mean.
I also enjoy Rachael Ray’s new (ish) shorter cut.
Basically I like my hair short, sassy and fun.
Angelina Jolie in Mr and Mrs Smith. When she pulls out one pin and her strictly business up do goes to sexy hair in no time flat.
Oh, and Stacy London. Love that What Not to Wear.
It’s gotta be Mama Beth!
The only hair hero I’ve ever had was Cate Blanchett in the movie “Bandits” with Billy Bob Thornton and Bruce Willis. Not the best movie for any of them, by any stretch. But she was a redhead in taht movie and her cut was fantastic! The color I’ve got taken care of – God is my colorist and I’m fine with that. But everything about her hair in that movie made me think I could pull it off. It’s a seven year old movie and I still aspire to that hair! I think I finally pulled it off with my last haircut a few weeks ago! http://movies.about.com/library/weekly/aa100201c.htm
Now if only I could figure out how to keep my hair backlit like that I’d be golden! Literally!
Girls, I had me some hair-powered Holy Spirit intervention yesterday. Like most of us do, I’ve waited far too long to make an appointment with my norm hair lady, and yesterday I was a desperate woman with roots the length of my dang leg. I’m talking pull out the phonebook and picking at random desperate, which is NEVER a good idea. Anyhoo, I made an appointment with a receptionist that had this to say in response to my query if the stylist was good: “(pause…) Yeeeeah.. (more pause) she’s pretty good, she’s been here for awhile.” Yeah, not reassuring. So I rushed out of the house and to the place and saw the lady in whose hands my hair rested: 116 if a day, and I’m pretty sure either I stopped speaking English or English was her second language. Let’s just say that in the most tactful way possible I said I just wanted a “quote” and I hightailed it out of there. My Holy Spirit goosebump warnings were going haywire! Alas, I headed to Wal-mart and whilst, WHILST, ladies, the box of color was in my HANDs my faithful friend called me back with the lost number of my reliable stylist. Amen and amen.
Ok… I can’t believe I’m going to say this out loud but… I love Victoria Beckham’s short hair. I just cut my hair off short & I love how she is always trying different things with her short hair :)
I hate to butt into what is obviously an extremely XX chromosome conversation here, but I must speak for the men of the planet and simply say:
YES YES YES! Every woman should aspire to have the hair of Cate Blanchett in Bandits. Amen. And Amen.
Well, Celine’s hair is as divine as her voice. I went to the New Orleans concert earlier this month. I feel blessed to have pretty good hair. It certainly can’t look like anybody else’s…wavy on top, curly in the back, a pretty average brown with gold, copper and silver, uh, I mean platinum highlights. Thanks for making me laugh on a regular basis.
Julia Roberts’ hair in Stepmom….loved it. If I could pull off short hair and mine were straight, I’d go for Katie Holmes’ short ‘do.
Julia Roberts’ hair in Stepmom….loved it. If I could pull off short hair and mine were straight, I’d go for Katie Holmes’ short ‘do. Keri Russell has the best curls, though.
Oh, I got to see Celine in person in 1994 when she opened for Michael Bolton. That was a long time ago & right before she made it big. The girl can definitely sing.
My hair heroine (and shared with others), I definitely Ms. Beth. I have scrutinized her hair everytime I watch her in person or on video.
Havne’t seen you in church in ages! You must be going at a different time than me.
heloise. you know that gorgeous lady who does the “hints from heloise” column? her hair is so pretty–beautfiul shiny silver color, huge volume, and she keeps it long and big-curly! i love long silver hair. it seems that most ladies with that color hair go short with it, but i love long hair!
Mine is a hero as oppsed to a heroine: my husband. He has THE most wonderful, curly (we’re talking ringlet, here) almost black hair. It’s much longer than mine and is SO beautiful; thick, but not too much so. I LOVE his hair!
I just went to Celine’s concert with my mom on the 5th in Dallas!!!! I have to say that she put on a GREAT show. I was particularly impressed with her stage…that moving sidewalk section was TOO COOL! And although her hair is quite lovely, I was more agog over her legs. Good grief that woman has the longest legs I’ve ever seen on a human and I’m pretty sure I saw all but about one-half of an inch of hers.
Hair heroine? Definitely Meg Ryan. Back when she had that short, mussy look that was absolutely perfect! Mine always ends up looking like terrible bed head or plastered in place. AAARGH!
I would salute Kate Hudson’s hair. Luv it.
I’m also going to start a petition to have some short-haired girls on The Bachelor next season. Because the long locks are sexy, but the first time those girls drag their hair through Ty’s oatmeal, they will be running to the beauty shop.
Oh BooMama, still adoring you everyday. I wish we were neighbors & girlfriends!
Hair heroine—what a delightfully frivolous question!!!!Makes me happy.
In first place on my list is my daughter’s hair. She’s 7 (8 in Feb.) and has gloriously long and wavy (used to be much more curly). It’s so beautiful I let her use my Aveda products on it!!! hmmm–maybe that’s why it’s beautiful! Boo Mama–have you ever used Aveda products. They make me happy, though then sad when I get the final tally. They are my treat to myself. Oh, my, I digress…
Anyway, my celebrity hair heroine is Faith Hill–especially when she first cut it short years ago. My sweet girl and I adore her–we went and saw she and Tim in concert the summer before last and were smack dab in the front row, center seats! They are a beautiful couple. And, you rock!!!
I have spent a long time today pondering this question and I have decided on three:
1.) Jennifer Garner
2.) Mariska Hargitay
3.) Kate Walsh
Oh…and did I mention how completely jealous I am that you saw Celine?! I LOVE her!
My hair heroine is Keri Russell. Her hair is wavy and free and it looks like she can just wash, dry, and go. Not much primping. :)
I have to say I lurve Beth Moore’s hair, but I also covet BigMama’s hair. I’d say it’s a toss up.
Old School Meg Ryan. Love it when it is short. I like my hair short and it is getting harder and harder not to look like Rue McClanahan.
I just love that in the midst of a concert by a world renown artist, you totally have your priorities straight. It’s the hair. Seriously. It’s the hair.
I love Beth Moore”s hair. The first time I heard her was back about 15 years ago and she had it fixed in a French twist and it was so pretty. Since then she has changed styles more times than I can count=each cuter than the last. And frankly, I just love that someone who is so spiritually mature has not lost her female sensability! Blessings.
I coveted Victoria (Posh) Beckham’s short sassy cut when she first moved to America. So much so that I went and cut mine similar. However, I need the rest of the package to complete the look! My hairdresser couldn’t help me with that request. Thanks for the laugh Boo Mama!

I really want, no need to see, Celine’s hair. Is it really that grand, that glorious, that magnificent? I need to see it up close and personal, but I bet that day will never come for me….sigh…. As for my hair goddess, honestly it would be my daughters (all 4 of them) and their dad (when we first met, he was a long haired hippy type); and they all have hair you wanna run your fingers through and through and through!
Thanks for the post and the giggle.
Oh I just LOVE me some Kimmy Kardashian hair. Dark, shiny, healthy, LONG and long-without-extensions…you know what I mean!
Be-A-U-tiful. Loves it!
Not sure who I would say BUT I did want to say that I am going to her concert this coming week. I just know I am going to spend the whole time looking at her hair now :)
I saw Celine in concert a few weeks ago, and my friends and I spent a considerable amount of time checking out her hair, too! It’s really quite stunning. And she’s such an amazing performer. We enjoyed every moment.
And, I’d have to go with some of the others. I’ve always loved Meg Ryan’s hairstyles.
My heroines are the ladies who cut my hair. It’s not often that you can walk into a place and say, “Do what you want with it. I just can’t have a cut that requires an hour’s work in the morning and I have to look like a girl when I leave or else Mr. Right won’t let me come home.”
Those people either love me or hate me. Their call.
You are a classic! You have the gift of making people laugh, haha!! :)
After much thought, I’ll have to say that I love Faith Hill’s hair when it’s long and a darker shade of blonde. It always looks so pretty.
Catherine Zeta Jones has gorgeous hair. I like it best when it’s not too curly.
Jennifer Anniston! And I am proud to say that I have very similar hair. My hair is probably the ONE thing I never complain about. :P
I’m just glad that Celine finally got a hairdo I could look at while she was singing. It got pretty wild there for a while.
And I have every right to critique because, as you know, I have perfect hair AND a perfect voice. Oh, and I’m skinny too.
Well I would have to say Kate from LOST because her hair looks like what I only wish my brown curly hair would look like. And she’s stranded on a semi-deserted island without hair-care products. No one would want to see mine with no products :-)
I have always loved Meg Ryan’s hair and wished mine looked like hers. I can have mine highlighted and cut exactly like hers, but it is just not the same. I think maybe I am wanting the whole package, face, body and all. Still working on being content with myself…please don’t judge me.
Jenny McCarthy. Loved it when it was long, now I love it in the A-line bob thing. Trying my best to imitate!! :)
Meg Ryan, Jacklyn Smith, Farrah Fawcett in her early Charlie’s Angels days. YESSS, feather hair and all…
But Meg probably wins. I love Kate from Jon and Kate, but don’t think I could ever go that short.
Interesting that you open the topic…I’ve been planning on doing a post for my hairdresser (She Rocks Our Hair) with pics of me over the past ten plus years as well as my sister.
I think I need a survey or something on what to do with my hair. The shortest I ever let her cut it was the end of 05. VERRRYY short inverted cut. Before everyone else was going inverted. That’s the price of a great hairdresser up on all the styles. I was inverted before inverted was cool.
ooh, hands down, my hair hero is my dearest friend Amy, who works at the MOST awesome salon IN THE WORLD. I went for OVER 20 years without going to a salon, and she is THE ONE who convinced me to go to Medalyn, the salon at which she works. It is total, gorgeous opulence combined with some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and they drip talent from their pores. go to http://www.medalyn.com to get a glimpse of Heaven! (and I am rockin’ out to Twila Paris’ “Days of Elijah”.. does anyone else love this song? “There is no God like Jehovah…. ” oh yeah…
Sarah Brightman – love her hair – love her voice…
I will also fess up a la Erin. As a faithful General Hospital watcher, Laura Wright (Carly Jax) has the best hair. It can go straight or curly and it always looks good.
Being a brunette, I love Catherine Zeta-Jones’ hair. It is so thick and shiny. Sigh.
I stumbled onto your blog during the Christmas home tour-really really loved that and I’m hoping to post on it next year. I’m new to blogging.
Jennifer Anniston is my hair hero although I clicked on the link to Celine in your post and her color is absolutely fab. This topic is close to my heart at the moment as we are moving soon and finding a new stylist who can replicate my highlight color is waaaaay up there on my list of ‘things I’m trying not to feel anxious about but sometimes do’
Cheers, Joyce
Nicole Kidman (except when she has the washed out blonde color, which IMHO is not at all attractive on her).
My hair is ridiculously thin and has refused to grow the majority of my life so anyone who’s hair has a little life is my hero! :) Really though, I love Victoria Beckham’s hair. Mine is currently cut in that style (where I’m sure it will remain for the next 2-3 years since that’s how long it will take it to grow out, no kidding) and I love it!!!
Kate Walsh was my first choice. I have a picture of her on my mirror as hair inspiration.
After reading comments, I also agree with Lauren Graham. Curly or straight, it always looked great on Gilmore Girls.
On AI, the new judge’s hair looks better in the soft curly wave, I don’t really like it straightened.
Jamie Lee Curtis and her short-short naturally salt & pepper hair. I love it.
