Four Things

– The kitchen cabinet painting is coming along nicely. I was going to post some pictures tonight, but the batteries in my camera died. Again. So I’m charging my reliably unreliable batteries right now and hopefully will have some pictures tomorrow. Because I’m sure you care.

– I wrote a post over at AllAccess today. I keep telling myself that I need to do a better job of telling y’all when I write something over there, but then I forget.

This stuff is my new favorite product in the whole world. It completely transformed my kitchen cabinet hardware for $5.44 (at Walmarts).

– Speaking of Walmarts, ours is remodeling. I have been in there three times this week and every single time I am like a cat in a room where the furniture has been rearranged. I can’t find a thing. Today the cookware was by the crayons, the shoes were by the cleaning supplies and the mascara was by the produce. I’ve never been more confused.

They have remodled my favorite Walmart and it is very hard to find things. It is supposed to be “better” and I suppose it will be when I get used to the layout, but for right now it is very confusing. Ah, progress..can’t live with it, can’t live without it. Hope yours gets finished soon and they give you a map to learn where everything is located..good luck.

  2. I’ll be in Pittsburgh for LPL too!!!!!!! I am so excited!!!

  3. We have 3 walmarts within 5 miles of our house, and one of them is being remodeled right now. It’s so confusing. And the newest one, just built this spring, is the most confusing of all. Even the grocery aisles don’t make sense to me!

    good luck with yours!

  4. Keep your eyes on the prize…think of how awesome it’ll be when the remodel is all done! :0)

  5. I would never think to use Rustoleum on hardware, but Rock On! I can’t wait to see it. Oh, and our Mart of Walls is remodeling too. I’m excited for a fresh, new look, but I too, wander around aimlessly looking for Lightning McQueen and his posse.

  6. Dear Lord – ours is remodeling too. Big ol’ sign that says only 60 more days. The pharmacy is moving to the other side of the store, but the entire thing is in such a funk it drives me crazy!

  7. Oh Sophie, a friend mentioned just last night she’d been to our Walmart(s) yesterday and was afraid she may start feeling the same way I do about it, meaning REFUSING to go! They are remodeling (again) and she was really upset about not being able to find ANYTHING she went there for. I do believe their new ads should say, ‘Hazardous to your mental well-being’!
Cannot stand to go, refuse to go, and last year I was forced into going 3 times, way too much for this old gal:)
Hopefully they’ll make it better for their faithful shoppers….and soon!
Blessings to you as you revamp your kitchen. Cannot wait to see it!
    Take care,

  8. I love that Rustoleum, too! We were given some horrendously rusted patio furniture last summer and we used the brown hammered to make it look brand new. Amazing!

  9. Our Walmart is renovating too … its for the birds! Luckily, we have two walmarts in my town so I can just plan my grocery visits around when I’m across town and go to the other one for a while.

  10. “every single time I am like a cat in a room where the furniture has been rearranged.”

Oh, that’s too funny! That is SO my cat! However, he is an old cat and sometimes he does that even if I haven’t rearranged the furniture.

  11. I hated it when they remodeled our Walmart and then the my beloved Target did the same thing. I’m so afraid it’s almost time to do it all again…shudder…

  12. LOL!! hang in there! they r building a new walmart near our home!! i would love to check it out when its done! i must say though, so far i am more of a target girl! this walmart is gonna have to b super fantastic! :)

  13. Our Wal Mart is remodeling, too and it is pure torture.

I dedicated an entire post to it the other day actually. I think they mix up everything so they can watch everyone walk around aimlessly.

  14. They’ve recently remodeled our Walmart, too – but the end result is good! Sure, I had to re-find things, but the aisles are so much bigger! I don’t know how they did it, but our Walmart is actually much improved with wide aisles and room to BREATHE.

  15. I feel totally jipped- our Walmarts has not remodeled in years. I think I should forward this post to the Walmart powers that be and say, “Ahem- Charlotte- remodel- please- especially the place where they sell the fish- it stinks- thank you from the bottom of my smiley face loving little heart.”

Can’t wait to see you soon in Charlotte. And if you’d like I could totally take you to an unremodeled Walmart with a stinky fish aisle.

    Smiles~

  16. You’re lucky. At least your Walmart is remodeling. That sounds like the “normal” order of our store. :(

  17. Our Wal-Mart recently was being remodeled, and hands down I have never been more confused in my life than when I went in looking for some towels. But I have to say, the way it looks afterwards is worth it,so nice and organized!

  18. Tater Tot and I went to Walmart several nights ago, not knowing that remodeling had started. TWO HOURS! It took two hours to find everything. He had a great time, but I was worn out by the time we left! Everyone we passed had that deer-in-the-headlights look, and you could hear people asking each other, “Have you seen the…?”

Can’t wait to see pictures of the kitchen cabinets!

  19. I actually have a couple cans of Rustoleum right now, in Brown Hammered. I’ve used it on some of those decorative metal things that you hang over doors and pictures. Fabulous. I’m planning to attack some old frames with it, and maybe even a wicker trash can. I have my doubts about the trash can, but we’ll see.

  20. I live in the middle of nowhere so Walmart is our only big store… it’s remodeling and I do truly hate going in there because I never know where anything is.

  21. I LOVE that spray paint! It totally transformed the fan in my daughter’s bedroom!

  22. Our Walmarts are both remodeling too. What a pain in the patootie. Can’t find a thing and can only go now when I know I have time to wander aimlessly. Because wandering aimlessly there seems to be the best way to find what I went there looking for in the first place.

Oh, and Rustoleum? Yah. Love it. Transforms lamps from Salvation Army, tables discarded by neighbors, more lamps, this time from GoodWill, and old-fashioned milk cans left by same neighbors. Now I have pretty lamps, a pretty patio table, and a great front porch plant stand that looks oh-so-vintage. I could be their spokesperson. :)

  23. OH! That spray paint is going to save me hundreds on new light fixtures!!

  24. Okay, you’re my new bff. I never would have thought to spraypaint my kitchen hardware! I’m so going to do that this weekend! Thank you for helping me update my cruddy kitchen on a very thin shoestring! :)

  25. Amanda says:

HOW do you paint kitchen cabinets? I emailed you earlier stating I was going to paint mine too and I have done many a research looking up the proper method… I don’t want to be able to scratch the paint off easily.

It’s so frustrating. I sanded the cabinets. I primed the cabinets. I painted the cabinets (3 coats). If my finger nail even so much as gets near the cabinet it will leave a mark…

I’m so sad. HELP! What did you do?

Though… you probably have better cabinets than I do.

    :-)

  26. Our Wal-Mart has thrice been remodeled …the employees don’t even know where anything is. I heard they are trying to be more like Target. Someone with too much education and not enough Life Experience is obviously runnin’ the place now.

  27. This comment has nothing to do with your post. I just read your lovely list about not answering email and was hoping that by commenting you would get my message. I am reading the most wonderful book that I think you would LOVE. It is called The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It is Mississippi and Caramel Cake and Sweet Tea and everything Southern gals love. I really think you would eat it up!! Really…. I hope you will let me know if you get it and read it and such.

  28. My daughter just used this on her kitchen hardware too – saved a bunch of money and looks fantastic. Since we have a load of kitchen cabinets to transform about 15 years forward, good to know.

  29. We have three Wal-Marts within seven miles of us. Two have been remodeled and the third one is a new one from the ground up. I can assure you, you will not like the store when the remodeling has been completed! It is so ill arranged, there is no logic to where things are placed and you will need a pair of roller skates to shop. I just hate the new arrangement!!

  30. P.S. I think Wal-Mart should have consulted the women of the world before they rearranged/misarranged their stores!

  31. Ok girly….we’re ready for some pictures…but you are probably knee deep er, elbow deep in paint, huh?? Hope all is going well!! :)

  32. LOL @ Wal-marts. I think I was there last weekend (or maybe the weekend before, I don’t know I’m working too much or my life is boring or both) and I said something to the effect of “what a nightmare”. I was trying to go to the restroom, but the one at the front was being cleaned, so I figured I’d mosey to the back but it’s CLOSED! grrrr

They have a sign that features how many days until we have a new wal-marts. Sophie, did you notice it’s still almost THREE MONTHS AWAY?? Oh bother.
