There was no big overarching reason for my bloggy break. I just needed, well, a break. I’m working more right now than I have in several years, and between taking care of work stuff and going to soccer practice and getting back in the swing of church on Wednesday nights and cooking and laundry-ing and whathaveyou-ing, I was starting to feel a little bit like my eyeballs were going to jump out of their sockets so that they could take turns knocking out my teeth.
Or something like that.
The bottom line is that I felt out of balance and out of whack and out of sorts. So I decided a week away from the blog might be a very good thing indeed. And as much as I died a little bit inside when I wasn’t blogging about the season premiere of “The Office” (PARKOUR!), I’m glad I stuck with the break. Life feels much less stress-y now.
Now that the break is officially over – even though it never officially started because 1) I am not an official and 2) I rarely do anything officially except for DRIVING MYSELF CRAZY WITH THE SEMANTICS, I AM OFFICIALLY DRIVING MYSELF CRAZY WITH THE SEMANTICS – I planned to sit down tonight and tell you some of the funny-ish things that happened this past week.
(For example, Alex got a reading award and we let him pick anywhere he wanted for supper Friday night. ANYWHERE. I was all geared up for some chips and salsa and some sort of tortilla-esque substance filled with cheese – because clearly if he could pick any restaurant he wanted he would surely opt for Mexican food – and do you know where he picked? DO YOU KNOW? Arby’s. He picked Arby’s. THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE COKE PRODUCTS THERE.)
(MUCH LESS QUESO.)
(THE STUFF THEY PUT ON TOP OF THE BEEF ‘N CHEDDAR SANDWICHES DOESN’T COUNT EVEN A LITTLE BIT.)
But as it turns out I haven’t done very much “writing” tonight after all because after supper I got completely sidetracked by the Emmys, and then David and I talked about how rearranging the furniture in our bedroom (fyi: we rearranged the furniture in our bedroom this afternoon) makes it feel so much bigger, and then I remembered that I haven’t read my October Southern Living yet, and I really want to read it, and I’m going to do just that because I am always a fan of a new idea for a fall door wreath.
So there you have it. I have grazed my toe across two droplets of water that splashed up from the shallow end of the bloggy pool, and now I’m running back over to my lounge chair so that I can snuggle up with a magazine. And I think you’ll agree that using an analogy from the depths of summer when we’re mere hours away from fall reveals a staggering lack of creativity and innovation.
In other words: it’s business as usual around here! With the same level of sub-par content that you’ve grown to tolerate!
You’re welcome!
Please know that I’ve missed you terribly.

I’ve missed you terribly as well, but glad you had a break! Now how about pics of the re-arrangement??
Welcome back….I can’t tell you how many times I went to click on the to your blog last week, only to remember you were “on a break”.
I second the request for re-arranging pics!
And your pool analogy….not so out of place after all, as it’s predicted to be a nippy 97 DEGREES on the first day of “fall” in Washington state this Tuesday! (Um, isn’t this supposed to be the state where it rains all the time?!)
Glad to see you back on the bloggy block again!
Um, that would be “click on the LINK to your blog” (in the comment above)….guess I can’t just go back and delete/correct/re-post my comment when I discover a typo like I can on facebook! :)
Miseed you! But I SO understand a bloggy break from time to time!!!
I missed you too.
Yeah! What up with the Arby’s no Coke products? They used to have Coke products. I think it’s a conspiracy. Pepsi is trying to take over the world. I’m not having it!
good to hear you are back again and up to your old organized obsessively patterns – life is a flow not a march – you are doing fab! Young Howard has a mind and taste buds (or commercial preferences?) of his own – sorry about the Arby’s though –
Missed you. So glad you are back!
Oh so glad you’re back officially. Happy Monday!
ARBY’S?? God bless you.
Missed reading your posts.
And Southern Living? It is slowly coming back to its old self.
That is all.
Welcome back! You were missed! : )
You are hilarious.
I’ve been waiting.
Patiently.
Waiting. And longing to hear you say . . .
“We should do something!”
“It’s too late. We should just tell everybody and hope for the best.”
PAhahahahahaha!
And . . .
(I totally will NOT quote this right! That’s why we need YOU!)
“I can’t be a virgin. I have a daughter.”
Or . . .
“I am NOT the voice of the Taco Bell dog!”
Welcome back, Boo!
Yay!
I bet we missed you more :-)
Arby’s? Really? They don’t even have fun kids stuff. Glad you are back:0)
No Coke products at Arby’s? Wow. All the Arby’s here in Michigan are Coke! I didn’t know that chains fluctuated.
I’m going to get Southern Living now…I need a wreath for my freshly painted front door. Welcome back!
What? No comment on the Arkansas/Georgia game?
Seriously, Arby’s? There’s always a deep sigh when my husband wants to go eat lunch there. Glad your back from your bloggy break and the summer analogy isn’t that far off because my bathing suit and I are going to enjoy some pool time this week!
I like Arby’s. And honestly? I’m starting to like Pepsi better than Coke. I KNOW!
Missed you too, doll!
Go Hokies!
Oh, BooMama….so glad you are officially or unofficially “back” from the break. Although it is completely understandable…we all need a break every now and then.
Anyway, you were definitely missed! Hope you enjoyed some queso somewhere over the weekend to make up for roast beef sandwiches. :) Should have brought along a few wickles to enjoy with it!! :)
And you didn’t even mention the most important thing of all, (well assuming football is REALLY important, but I guess that is a different argument for different day) – the beloved Bulldogs WON on Saturday.
Congrats to the Little Man on his reading award. That is no small feat. . .:)
Oh! So so so so so happy to have you back!! I need my homeschool breaks with Boomama : )
I feel your pain on the rush of the fall schedule. Did you ever see a skit at church that was about balancing plates? I don’t know what spiritual signifigance it had… I have thought about the visual of that person juggling seven plates at one time, and as they add the eighth plate ~ all the plates come crashing to the ground. Last week as I added our ladies Bible study and a Mary Kay party AT MY HOUSE to my packed schedule, I thought all my fall-leave plates might come crashing down!
And I was so pleased with The Office – I thought it was classic. And please, please don’t be an ‘anorexetic’.
We’ve miss you & totally understand about your blog break. I don’t have enough readers to take a break – HA!!
Your son is adorable & I love your blog!
Because of you, I just subscribed to Southern Living. for $11! for the entire year!
I have been reading your blog for quite some time, and often have to show your posts to my husband. You see, he works for Coca-Cola….and we get a big kick out of your undying love for Diet Coke. It’s possible you know more about where the Coke products are sold than we do!
Missed you too! Checked everyday … just in case!
You brighten up the blog world! Good to have you back.
Pam: “And I think this confirms why we didn’t tell anyone about the baby.”
Welcome back Kotter
So glad you enjoyed your break. Glad you are back and ready to forge ahead.
I really enjoy your blog everyday. You are so funny!!!!
You have been missed :). I am glad you are well and enjoyed dipping your toes into a bloggy break pool…or whatever it is that you so eloquently said!
You’re back! Praise the Lord! I’ve missed you!
Really, I don’t know how you do it. I would think having a big blog would be a lot of pressure to deal with. If I want to take a few days off, no big deal. But if you do, do you get a couple hundred e-mails asking if you are OK?
Yay!!! So glad you got a break, and even happier that you’re back!
I’m as relieved as Andy Bernard was to learn his rumor wasn’t true… :)
but Arby’s has jamoca shakes. JAMOCA SHAKES, FOR PETE’S SAKES! my small town life prevents from having one anywhere near me. So the next time someone wants to go there be excited and drink a JAMOCA SHAKE!!! (OK, I’m better now. *sigh* I think.)
colon capital dee
I missed you so much Boo.I really thought you’d be gone all month & am so glad to see you aren’t. Thank you for sharing your life!
If you got a wrinkle in your soul, Church can give you the face lift you need.
Trish
I missed you, too!! I’ve been so busy myself, I just now was catching up on reading some of my favs. The Arby’s comments made me HAW-HAW-HAW!!! Too funny!!
Welcome back! I’ve missed your blog! And, sometimes, we just need a little Arby’s in our lives, though it will never make up for salt, tomatoes, cheese, and crunchy tortillas, a little Arby’s sauce can be just what the doctor ordered!(Or Horsey sauce, if that be the case!)
